My maternal grandpa used to take us kids to the cemetery to see like tombstones. I kinda like it.

I thought I'd take this opportunity to bring up Burlington Northern's LNG-fueled locomotives.

They were basically a modified pair of EMD SD40-2s operating in tandem with a big LNG tank car (harkening back to the steam era by referring to it as a 'tender') between the two of them. For the first half of the 1990s, Burlington Northern SD40-2s #7890 and #7149 operated in dedicated Powder River unit coal train service between Wyoming and the midwest.

This lasted until 1996, but I'm not sure why Burlington Northern and successor BNSF decided to pull the plug. The case could be made that even with the modifications, the two locomotives were approaching the end of their service life; except that BNSF still rosters plenty of unmodified SD40-2s to this day. Another possibility is that the newer locmotives offered by GE and EMD (C44-9s, SD75Is were offering similar fuel effciency without any sort of modifications).

Perhaps the most glaring possibility is that no matter how well the system worked, it would have to involve putting what amounted to a tank car filled with 20,000 gallons of LNG at the front of the train. Whenever feasable, crews would get at least one boxcar or flatcar ('spacers' or 'idlers') to seperate them from whatever hazardous or volatile commodity was being transported- molten sulphur, acid, propane, etc.

This quote should be on every politician's office door.

Probably because most readers of Zombietime and LGF for example who already didn't hate you guys are now feeling slighted by anything that seems like criticism of them. Post Obama they feel like they have suffered enough and having people point out their faults, so we can remain intellectually honest and have a strong basis from which to fight back in 2010 and 2012, is just too much for these people.

What I have never understood is the motivation of some people to comment on everything they don't like. Youtube comments are a prime example of this. You could put up a video of your vacation to the Grand Canyon with your family and get 600 comments about how you suck, or the video is boring, or why according to some asinine lefty dogma the Grand Canyon trip you took is destroying the environment. It's like people just cruise the web looking for things to bitch about. Can't people just ignore or silently disagree with things any more (or very least wait until they have a coherent argument and strong enough reason to complain)?

Great to hear your seizures aren't worse than mine. I have Gran Mal seizures and when I do have them, they're big ones. I've had some that last for 15 minutes and some that last 30 seconds. I have a hard time going 3 months without one. Disability gave me a bus pass so when I take the bus anywhere, it doesn't cost me anything. It doesn't cost much to take the bus I know but as little as I get from disability, every little bit counts. I miss driving bad, I hate the feeling of not being able to go wherever I want when I want. I've always done poorly with math, but before my Epilepsy started, I had a photographic memory.

It seems the worst one is not eating right. I never miss my meds, I take them twice a day @ 10:00AM and 10:00PM. I just know if it's 10:01 and I haven't taken meds, I know it's time to.

This is titled "The Children's Bible in a Nutshell".

In the beginning, which occurred near the start, there was nothing but God, darkness, and some gas. The Bible says, 'The Lord thy God is one, but I think He must be a lot older than that.

Anyway, God said, 'Give me a light!' and someone did.

Then God made the world.

He split the Adam and made Eve. Adam and Eve were naked, but they weren't embarrassed because mirrors hadn't been invented yet.

Adam and Eve disobeyed God by eating one bad apple, so they were driven from the Garden of Eden...Not sure what they were driven in though, because they didn't have cars.

Adam and Eve had a son, Cain, who hated his brother as long as he was Abel.

Pretty soon all of the early people died off, except for Methuselah, who lived to be like a million or something.

One of the next important people was Noah, who was a good guy, but one of his kids was kind of a Ham. Noah built a large boat and put his family and some animals on it. He asked some other people to join him, but they said they would have to take a rain check.

During His life, Jesus had many arguments with sinners like the Pharisees and the Democrats.

Jesus also had twelve opossums.

The worst one was Judas Asparagus. Judas was so evil that they named a terrible vegetable after him.

Jesus was a great man. He healed many leopards and even preached to some Germans on the Mount.

But the Democrats and all those guys put Jesus on trial before Pontius the Pilot. Pilot didn't stick up for Jesus. He just washed his hands instead.

Anyways, Jesus died for our sins, then came back to life again. He went up to Heaven but will be back at the end of the Aluminum. His return is foretold in the book of Revolution.

I've been thinking that this uncertainty may have a silver lining.

For example, in the Chrysler Takeover, 0bama ignored the needs of senior creditors, the hedge fund investors who actually provide the credit, and gave a preferred status to the junior creditors, the UAW.

OK, fine – if actual creditors with money can't be certain of where they stand when dealing with the government, they'll just have to have more incentive to lend money to the government, most likely in the form of usurious or near-usurious rates.

That'll certainly put a real reign on government overspending, won't it?

Mangoes and ice cream are to die for! When I was in Costa Rica, I lived on the stuff. And I actually don't mind fresh coconut, or the water out of the green ones. Seems to be actually naturally carbonated. By dried shredded coconut tastes rancid to me, even in candy bars.

I used to do very poor on tests. In 5th grade, I was tested to see not if I should be held back a year, but whether I should be placed in a remedial class.

They gave me a standard IQ test (measured, at the time, in points, not the percentages they do today). I got it back, and they determined my IQ was 156! I ask the school psychologist if this was good or bad news. He said, "Well, average is 100. Genius is 140. You're well beyond genius. What do you think?"

After that, I was put in advanced placement classes, and began to do much better, as I was more interested in what I was learning.

Test-taking is a skill in itself, and can be taught. Many people try to over-think the answers to the questions, and get tripped up. I'm sure you could find a coach or tutor who could help your daughter with her test-taking skills.

Those IQ tests are a double-edged sword. When I was in grade school every report card said the same thing, to the point where my mother would say, "Don't bother showing it to me. Let me guess...it says, 'She is a pleasure to have in class but she can do much better on her grades!'"

Our two younger sons hated school and eventually ended up quitting and taking the GED which both of them passed easily. I really wanted them to go to college but they both refused to do but now since they are close to their 30's they are beginning to regret it...I think. Just the experience of a few years somewhere else would of given them some different perspectives on a lot of things. Good or bad I feel sorry they missed them.

Our two younger sons hated school and eventually ended up quitting and taking the GED which both of them passed easily. I really wanted them to go to college but they both refused to do but now since they are close to their 30's they are beginning to regret it...I think. Just the experience of a few years somewhere else would of given them some different perspectives on a lot of things. Good or bad I feel sorry they missed them.

It is never too late for college. I went back at thirty, took ten years to get my degree (working full time simultaneously) and don't regret a minute of it.

The thing is, she LIKES school. And she's getting a lot out of it, even if it's not (all) academic. College is a good place to grow up.

If your sons regret not taking the courses as opposed to not having the "college experience", I highly recommend night classes. I did so much better in grad school with a couple of years working full time under my belt.

They grew up on the farm and just boxing them up in a classroom seemed to really bother them. I wish these new schools at least had windows which could be opened or at least allowed the students to see outside. Neither one of them like studying still but one completed his courses at A & M to become a certified fire fighter and the youngest turned down an opportunity to fly for Delta airlines a few years ago. They both chose to stay on the farm. Nuts don't fall far from the tree I guess. :)

That is an option I would like to see them take. They are both very intelligent and just knowing they had a degree would be a feather in the caps for both of them.
