Today Amazon announced the newest addition to the Kindle family of E-book readers: the Kindle DX: Amazon’s 9.7’ Wireless Reading Device (Latest Generation). It’s available for pre-order now, and will be released “this summer,” for a rather pricey $489.

The Kindle DX weighs about 6 ounces more than the current version, but is only half a millimeter thicker.

New features include the much larger display, a built-in PDF reader (replacing Amazon’s conversion service), expanded internal memory (more than twice the RAM of the current model), and an auto-rotating screen similar to the iPhone. Initial reports also mentioned an improved web browser, but Amazon’s Kindle DX page doesn’t confirm that.
