Onion: Biden Washes Trans Am in White House Driveway

Humor • Views: 5,355

Proving once again that they really are fair and balanced, the Onion takes a glorious shot at Joltin’ Joe: Shirtless Biden Washes Trans Am In White House Driveway.

WASHINGTON—Taking advantage of the warm spring weather Monday, Vice President Joe Biden parked his 1981 Trans Am in the White House driveway, removed his undershirt, and spent a leisurely afternoon washing the muscle car and drinking beer.

“This baby just needs a little scrub down,” said Biden, addressing a tour group as he tucked the sweat-covered top into the belt loop of his cutoff jean shorts. “Gotta get her looking good so I can impress the chicks when I’m cruising down Pennsylvania [Avenue].”

White House aides said that Biden pulled into the driveway shortly before noon, the chorus of Night Ranger’s “(You Can Still) Rock In America” blaring from his car’s stereo. According to witnesses, Biden spent several minutes maneuvering the Trans Am into the perfect spot, and was observed drumming his fingers on the steering wheel until the song came to a close.

The shirtless 66-year-old then entered the executive residence and greeted employees with a round of high fives and a variety of nicknames.

“Hey, hot stuff, looking good,” Biden told a passing aide. “Would you know where I could get a little bucket and sponge action? My mean machine needs to be cleaned.”

After acquiring the necessary washing materials, the bare-chested second-in-command returned to the driveway, where he spent several moments staring in apparent awe at the firebird decal on the hood of his car.

His looks better than my '75 Formula did when I got rid of it. Rust under the undercoat dissolved the metal over the rear shock towers, dropping the body onto the differential/rear axle. A body man buddy of mine recognized the condition as typical for the second-gen 'Bird and Camaro- he called it "congenital weak-a$$".

I had an Olds Cutlass with the 8 track bolted to the floor.
I had one stolen out of my dash & three nights later I guy I knew tried to sell it to me. He didn't even know that he ripped me off.
Needless to say , I relieved him of my property & he swore that he wouldn't steal from me again. That was nice.

It reassured his supporters on the far left that he didn't really mean it when he tried to sound like a moderate, it reassured the DNC that he would toe the party line on everything... and it told the American people, "You'd all better pray I stay healthy, no matter how much you dislike what I do to you- how long do you think you'll last with this yutz in the center seat?"

Joe "The Plumber" leaving the Republican party.

Republicans in the Wilderness: Is the Party Over?

By MICHAEL GRUNWALD Thursday, May. 07, 2009

Well, more elections. Big Government is never popular in theory, but the disaster aid, school lunches and prescription drugs that make up Big Government have become wildly popular in practice, especially now that so many people are hurting. Samuel Wurzelbacher, better known as Joe the Plumber, tells TIME he's so outraged by GOP overspending, he's quitting the party — and he's the bull's-eye of its target audience.
...

Even Joe the Plumber — who opposes abortion and homosexuality and considers America a "Christian nation" — wants the party to drop its "holier than thou" attitude on divisive social issues.

The Obama administration said it would use the funds to further expand its efforts to boost compliance outside the U.S., "placing greater scrutiny on cross-border transactions and tax issues. in the Democratic party"

What a joke!

Reason you wear your safety goggles (i.e. stupidity)

We were doing a really cool experiment involving cutting open a penny (post-1984, I believe, I'm too lazy to look it up), and then dropping it in hydrochloric acid for a few hours inside a glass beaker. Stupid me, I wanted to get a better look, so I raised it up over my head to look through the glass bottom of the beaker. The hydrochloric acid at this point was reacting with the zinc and fizzing like soda pop.

"Ow. What's that stinging in my eyes?"

I am so glad I was doing it, and not the kids. The worse thing I have had a kid get in the eyes is black pepper. You would think I would have noticed it on my fingers first, but oh, well...

re: #86 Macker

Spiro Agnew from wikipedia:

In 1980, Agnew published a memoir in which he implied that Nixon and his Chief of Staff, Alexander Haig, had planned to assassinate him if he refused to resign the Vice-Presidency, and that Haig told him "to go quietly… or else." Also in 1980, he considered, then decided against, running for Congress from Maryland. (ref. ABC News) Agnew also wrote a novel, The Canfield Decision, about a vice president who was "destroyed by his own ambition." When John Ehrlichman, the President's counsel and assistant, asked Nixon why he kept Agnew on the ticket in the 1972 election, Nixon replied that "No assassin in his right mind would kill me."

I got caught...With a young lady..In College at Goat's rock completely naked on the beach by the Sheriff's Dept..If we had been in a car..We could have found our clothes..As It was..It rates as my most embarrassing night ever..
And what do you say when the sheriff demands ID when you are completely naked?
/The laughing was only funny to the deputies...

Location: Forrest close to Stuttgart/Stammheim (No.1- 70's Terror prison) Germany.
Spend a night in my van with my then girl friend. Early morning, windows misted over.
Knock, knock and I open the window, it is a policeman who asks for ID and drivers license. I turn around to fetch them in my pockets.
As I again turn around to hand the papers to the police man he holds his hand out to receive them while another police man holds a submachine gun into my face.
MAN WAS I AWAKE!

I was not aware of the location, it was her hometown. ;-8

What:
Letter carriers nationwide will join forces to help stamp out hunger by collecting non-perishable food items and delivering them to local community food banks, pantries and shelters across the country.

Who:
U.S. Postal Service
National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC)
Campbell Soup Company
Feeding America (formerly America’s Second Harvest)

When:
Saturday, May 9, 2009

Where:
Nationwide

Background:
An estimated 35 million people are at risk of hunger in America, including 12 million children. Since 1993, the Postal Service and the NALC have partnered on this campaign to stamp out hunger. It has grown to become the world’s largest, single-day food drive, collecting more than three-quarters of a billion pounds of food since its inception. It’s easy to help: Put some non-perishable food items in a bag and place it by your mailbox. Your letter carrier will pick it up and deliver to local food banks. It’s that simple.

Sorry, is a Miranda warning that phrase: "You have the right ..."?

You have the right to remain silent. If you give up the right to remain silent, anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law.

You have the right to speak to an attorney, and to have an attorney present during any questioning.

If you so desire and cannot afford one, an attorney will be appointed to you without charge, before any questioning.

Do you understand these rights as I have explained them to you?

You always read it off the card.

In actual practice, we used to set them down in the back seat, and when they said "ain't you gonna read me my rights?", we'd say, "I don't even want to talk to you. You'll get the entire thing at booking. So please, sit back and be quiet."

When you are getting arrested you also get a sort of a "Miranda warning". But these policemen only wanted to make sure that they wouldn't be shot at by possible terrorist.
Those terrorists of that time were ruthless particularly towards the police.
We were not arrested and it all came down to a sort of warning for unlawful parking in a forest.

Obama budget cuts oil tax breaks to raise billions
Thu May 7, 2009

The Obama administration on Thursday proposed cutting billions of dollars in big tax breaks for oil and natural gas companies, while boosting government spending to promote alternative energy sources.

The budget proposal, which must be approved by Congress, includes ending "unjustified tax loopholes" for oil and gas companies that would raise $26 billion over the next 10 years.

The White House rejected as "unfounded" industry claims that ending the tax breaks would take a significant toll on U.S. oil and gas production. It said oil and, to a large extent, gas are internationally traded commodities whose prices are determined on the world market.

Oil rises to six-month high near $58 in Asia

Thu May 7

Oil prices jumped to near $58 a barrel Thursday in Asia, extending gains to near six-month highs on investor expectations global economic growth may begin to rebound by the end of the year.

Benchmark crude for June delivery was up $1.31 cents to $57.68 a barrel by late afternoon in Singapore, in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. The contract Wednesday rose 4.6 percent, or $2.50, to settle at $56.34, the highest level since mid-November.

Obama Not Backing Off On Gulf of Mexico Drilling Tax

The Obama administration is sticking with a plan to raise about $5 billion over 10 years through a new excise tax on oil and gas production in the Gulf of Mexico out of its proposed fiscal 2010 budget, a senior administration official said Thursday.

227 Gus  Thu, May 7, 2009 4:29:47pm

re: #214 Killgore Trout

Typical. He'll cut the tax breaks which of course isn't "free money" to the oil companies. Obama will take the extra tax revenue to use the Federal gubernement to promote alternative fuel sources. Eventually they'll probably create an Alternative Fuels Subsidy not unlike farm subsidies.

The energy companies most likely already banked on those tax cuts and will need to keep revenue high enough to keep them afloat. End result, higher energy prices for the rest of us.

Obama Puts Entire NASA Space Program in Limbo
Thursday, May 07, 2009

WASHINGTON — The White House has ordered a complete outside review of NASA's manned space program, including plans to return astronauts to the moon.

Officials want a report from an independent panel by August. White House science adviser John Holdren said Thursday that the new panel will look at the design of new spacecraft to replace the space shuttle and go to the moon, as well as consider possible alternatives to the current design.

Obama's BS about 95% of Americans would get a tax break was an out and out lie from the get-go. Unfortunately 95% of Americans bought it lock, stock, and barrel.

Now come the taxes targeting "evil" businesses - he's got class envy frothing nicely right now, so any tax directed against business is cheered on. When it comes back in higher prices to us, we'll just beat on business even more.

I would prefer going back to some of the early plans, the stepping stone plan.
We'd need a new shuttle or reusable earth to orbit system. Build a real space station, not the podunk ISS. A station that could assembly real space craft, not piddling little things that need to fit on a Delta V. Launch those larger craft not constrained by aerodynamic shrouds and lift restrictions on exploratory mission.

From there build another station at a Lagrange Point, defeats the gravity well and won't require fuel to stay in orbit. A moon base at that point for materials makes sense. The LP station means more fuel efficient mission launches also.

*Okay I read to much Sci-Fi*

The moon would make the perfect space station. There's a lot of pre-existing technology that can accomplish this but it seems as though a lot is going into RD. In the two weeks I took the bus and light rail I saw several violent acts including one guy getting seriously punched in the face. Then there was the typical crazy lady in the back of the bus harassing people and the loud mouthed drunk couples that would argue and go from hating each other one minute to loving each other the next.
