Obama Will Speak to Muslims From Egypt

Politics • Views: 11,913

After much consultation and an entire research team’s worth of expertise, Barack Obama has decided to address the Muslim world from Hosni Mubarak’s dictatorship: Obama to Address Muslim World From Egypt.

Hosni is relieved he won’t have to put up with any more of that annoying “democracy” talk.

President Obama will make his promised speech to the Muslim world from Egypt, a White House official said on Friday.

Obama pledged during the campaign to address the Muslim world from a Muslim capital within the first few months of taking office. Picking a site proved challenging for a range of reasons — from diplomacy to security — and the decision took longer than expected, with Obama commissioning options from a research team.

Having settled on Egypt, the White House will announce soon that he is adding a stop there to an upcoming overseas trip, presumably his early June visit to Normandy for the anniversary of D-Day. …

Mubarak, who will meet with Obama at the White House later this month, was so angered by the democracy push that he did not make his annual spring visit to Washington for all of Bush’s second term. The Obama administration, in its budget released this week, has already loosened restrictions imposed by Bush to ensure some U.S. aid went to democracy groups not approved by the Egyptian authorities.

Also, can we call him "Huseein" now?

This is just Obama's way of bringing Jews and Muslims together. He's throwing Egypt's pro-democracy activists under the bus, where they can mix and mingle with the three million or so American Jews who voted for him.

I suspect that the United States by catering to all these potentates and dictators is losing its clout (appearing increasingly weak) in the eyes of the world. I believe it's dangerous. Soon it simply will make Zero difference whatever the POTUS says...(an object of derision, behind the president's back).

But last month, Obama refused to visit the American cemetery at Utah Beach, because he didn't want to offend the Germans. Is he really going to go to the D-Day commemoration this time? If so, I wonder if he'll be pro- or anti-. Maybe he'll just give a little speech lamenting the great loss of life on all sides.

Eventually, of course, he'll even stop making speeches on TV here in the U.S. After Congress passes a law requiring every American to follow him on Twitter 24/7/365.

Actually, we don't need to hear any more speeches from him, because now we understand perfectly exactly what drives him.

When we complain that he is degrading our friends and exalting our enemies, he just smiles, walks across the water again, and says;

Surely, by now you must understand that your friends, and mine, are two entirely different groups. And I don't particularly like yours. And don't forget, I Won.

78 zombie  Fri, May 8, 2009 2:22:54pm

The reason it was so difficult is that the entire Musoim world is rife with dictatorships and thugocracies.

This, by the way, was the the original meaning of the word "Islamofascism," as coined by Malise Ruthven. It meant that countries with a Muslim majority tend to slip into totalitarianism because the underlying religious mindset of Islam is similar to political fascism, so people are open to the idea -- in fact, they prefer it. The term did not refer to extreme Islam as a fascist movement.

Of course, by speaking from Egypt, Obama will be giving his stamp of approval to the thugocracy there. Par for the course.

The Obama administration, in its budget released this week, has already loosened restrictions imposed by Bush to ensure some U.S. aid went to democracy groups not approved by the Egyptian authorities.

Because everyone knows it's much more important to give American taxpayer money to pro-fascist groups!

Eventually, of course, he'll even stop making speeches on TV here in the U.S. After Congress passes a law requiring every American to follow him on Twitter 24/7/365.

Actually, we don't need to hear any more speeches from him, because now we understand perfectly exactly what drives him.

When we complain that he is degrading our friends and exalting our enemies, he just smiles, walks across the water again, and says;

Surely, by now you must understand that your friends, and mine, are two entirely different groups. And I don't particularly like yours. And don't forget, I Won.

cheers

The man knows no other way of existence than campaigning. To lead is not in his DNA.

I don't mean to get all religious like but:

The Palestinian city of Megiddo, located on a pass commanding a road connecting Egypt and Syria, was probably chosen as a symbol for such a battle, because it had been the scene of many military encounters owing to its strategic location. (Megiddo was also the site of a crucial battle in 1918 during the First World War and lent its name to the victor: Lord Allenby of Megiddo.) The term Armageddon has often been used by Protestant fundamentalists to refer to an impending cataclysmic struggle between the forces of good and evil. (See apocalyptic literature.) It has also been used figuratively, often by peace activists, to describe a possible nuclear world war.

Could the meeting be somewhere on a road between Egypt and Syria?/
My Sparmageddon is a term I use for "fighting back verbally with facts".

The articles only talk about repair, which is the problem with an arms boycott.
But Israel has always improved the aircraft they buy from the US, and many of those improvements find their way back to the US. We're making that impossible with the F-35. And they make (and export) their own missiles and radar; no way to put those on an F-35 with its integrated computer systems unless you can modify the computers.

You must read the book on the 1940 election. Covers that quite well. Republicans were isolationists. But here's something peace freaks won't admit. Roosevelt was a liar and lawbreaker in 1940. He said he was for peace and would obey all neutrality laws. But he had already met with Chruchill and made plans for America's entry in the war. And later when Briton had no money to buy arms from us, he "loaned" the destroyers since US law forbide aid. Of course most of us here support Roosevelt's actions.

Actually, the US will sell Israel the F-35, but won't give Israel the specs to maintain the computer, thus making it impossible for them to put their own weapons on the plane, and leaving them vulnerable in the case of an arms boycott.

I actually hope The One and his minions do try that trick. The French tried it in the late Sixties, embargoing tech support, parts, etc., for the AMD Mirage III/V. The result was to jumpstart Israel Aircraft Industries from building cropdusters and rebuilding second-hand business jets (Jet Commanders) to designing and producing first the Nesher (Dagger), a copy of the Mirage III, and then the Kfir (Young Lion), a product-improved Mirage III that used the same J-79 engine as the F-4 Phantom II. When Jimmy Carter embargoed transfer of F-16 components to Israel a decade later, IAI developed the Lavi (Lion Cub), a multirole jet that was good enough that after Reagan lifted the embargo (so General Dynamics wouldn't lose business), the PRC bought the data, and now is building their own improved version for their own air force.

If The One pulls the same kind of stunt, I expect Israel will respond the same way. Which means that the IDF/AF will probably end up with an F-35 variant better than anything we'll have flying.

/it will be amusing to watch The One, and Hillary, simultaneously stewing and throwing tantrums as a result.

cheers

Of course, Ulysses -which I think is an awesome name - wasn't Grant's first name. It was his middle name, as he hated his first name (Hiram). The "S" in "Ulysses S. Grant" stands for nothing.

Actually, I think it stands for Simpson. Harry S Truman's middle name was S and is properly written without a period.

Not true. Both of his grandparents had first names that started with 'S' so he was given the 'S' in honor of both of them.

Would that mean the US would maintain control of what targets got attacked?

I don't know much about this, but I think I read something recently about some terrorist who got a hold of an American surface to air missile, and tried to use it against an Israeli plane, but it wouldn't work, because the missile identified the plane as friendly.

It could prevent the aircraft from firing on a plane that sent the right IFF (Identification Friend or Foe), which is what you were talking about. So if the US sold an Arab country F-35's, NEITHER could fire on each other.

Actually, I think it stands for Simpson. Harry S Truman's middle name was S and is properly written without a period.

According to Wiki, Grant's S stands for nothing. It was erroneously given to him in his West Point nomination.

At the age of 17, Grant entered the United States Military Academy (USMA) at West Point, New York, after securing a nomination through his U.S. Congressman, Thomas L. Hamer, who erroneously nominated him as "Ulysses S. Grant of Ohio."[7] Grant adopted the form of his new name with middle initial only.[8] Because "U.S." also stands for "Uncle Sam," Grant's nickname became "Sam" among his army colleagues.

Let me put that into plain-speak.

2. Surrender the moral high ground and appear weak before your ideological nemesis;

Yes- it's a regrettable truth of human nature- we can be ugly. We've slowly evolved, in most societies, to be more compassionate towards each other in the context of individual rights. Where you don't see these rights protected as well as restricted as much as possible against human nature's less than savory potential for evil, you see societies that start moving towards autocracies.

re: #156 Dave the.....

Actually, under the Atlantic Treaty, we traded Great Britain fifty overage "four-stacker" destroyers (WW1 vintage) for half-a-dozen overseas bases which they deeded over to us in fee simple. In other words, we paid for actual real estate with ships we had no real use for anyway. Our remaining four-stackers (about 100) spent most of the war as APDs- high speed transports. They were redundant in their original role, but gave the Royal navy a much-needed breathing space until production of the Javelin and Onslow class DDs for convoy duty caught up with demand.)

Personally, I'd have been all in favor of just giving them the flush-deckers, but getting paid in already-existing bases came in very handy even before Pearl Harbor.

An Israeli attack on the Iranian nuclear program would probably cause a surge in American public support FOR Israel, which has a tremendous reservoir of support among average Americans. OT -

I've missed a lot on earlier threads because of a heavy meeting day, so I don't know if this was discussed. The report on the investigation of the boneheaded AF1 NY buzzing has a lot of nice little details, even the resignation of one guy (who should be flat out canned, not hang around for 2 more weeks) but one thing is glaringly missing: Why were city officials who were notified, ORDERED to keep it secret under threat of Federal sanctions?

Caldera Resigns

It would be standard operating procedure to keep flight plans for one of the White House 747s classified and to only release it to people that had a need to know. In this case the, the NYPD and other LE agencies. The order to keep it secret would be consistent with that. This whole fiasco is really just a bad idea launched into a near perfect storm of procedure.

Obama gets a pass for claiming postions that the left otherwise mercilessly mocks as vile intolerance, such as opposing gay marriage.
They must think he doesn't really mean it.
I'm sure he is really a Christian, but I think he takes loving enemies a bit to far...

None of the Democrat front-runners supported same-sex marriage, and Obama actually got some points with some same-sex marriage supporters for saying he opposed it as a Christian rather than vaguely just saying that he wasn't for it.

I think he means it, and I, for one, hold it against him.

BTW, freetoken- Sowell considers both marxism and fascism to be hybrid visions. Here is a quote on fascism:

One of the hybrid visions which has had a spectacular rise and fall in the twentieth century is fascism. Here some of the key elements of the constrained vision - obedience to authority, loyalty to one's people, willingness to fight - were strongly invoked, but always under the overriding imperative to follow an unconstrained leader, under no obligation to respect laws, traditions, institutions, or even common decency. The systematic processes at the core of the constrained vision were negated by a totalitarianism directed against every independent social process, from religion to political or economic freedom. Fascism appropriated some of the symbolic aspects of the constrained vision, without the systemic processes which gave them meaning. It was an unconstrained vision of governance which attributed to its leaders a scope of knowledge and dedication to the common good wholly incompatible with the constrained vision whose symbols it invoked.

Adherents of both the constrained and the unconstrained visions each see fascism as the logical extension of the adversary's vision. To those on the political left, fascism if "the far right." Conversely, to Hayek, Hitler's "national socialism" (Nazism) was indeed socialist in concept and execution.

re: #316 SixDegrees

2 things:

1) She's lying through her teeth. The latest reports are very clear that she was not only briefed several times about the exact techniques in question, but was also told explicitly that there were being used on more than one occasion. There are meeting minutes to back this up, and it has already been confirmed by other people who were there.

2) Please don't use the three words 'Pelosi', 'going' and 'down' in the same sentence ever again. I have to go take a melon scoop to the part of my brain that formed an unpleasant mental image, and it's not like I have all that much gray matter to spare.

One more thought: 0 is bitching about Arnold cutting state union worker wages last February, and told Arnold he was going to cut off his stimulus if he didn't restore them. This is ridiculous; the stimulus bill doesn't contain any language making such a thing mandatory, and 0 doesn't call the shots; if he wants to push back against any Arnoldian resistance, the only thing he can do is go back to Congress and ask for a brand new bill.

And look who's in charge of the House - Nancy Pelosi, of California. How do you think she's going to respond to having her home state's stimulus package yanked? Not well. She'll actively work against any such proposal, and could very well pull enough Dems together to defeat such a measure with Republican support.

Makes you wonder how this is going to play out. I have a feeling 0 may not be very happy with Pelosi in the speaker's chair. I also have a feeling that even his Democratic Congress is NOT going to take well to being pushed around by the Executive Branch.

Interesting times. Could be lots of fun to watch this one play out.

Pelosi is going down...

[Link: www.foxnews.com...]

However, note that in the article, it quotes new CIA director Leon Panetta as saying the CIA documents stating who was briefed when "may not be accurate". Or in other words, he is accusing his own subordinates of lying, the better to cover Pelosi's a$$.

As this is already the Carter II Administration, I am looking for a "re-imagining" of the Church Committee hearings, with Panetta playing Stansfield Turner.

In the end, we may have no intelligence capabilities left. This would no doubt please the "enlightened elite" no end, as they vacillate between openly hoping that everyone else stomps us (as long as they get to run everything after the fact), or a sort of modern-day Henry L. Stimson mindset. (Stimson, Herbert Hoover's SecState, shut down our State Department cryptanalysis section, aka the "American Black Chamber", in 1929 on the grounds that "gentlemen do not read each others' mail.")

Of course, we weren't at war, then. Then again, The One believes that we're only at war now because we say we are. And that he can change that just by "redefining the situation".

/Or just pushing the "Reset" button.

I think we're on to something here, guys. Extremist Islam creates horrendous oppression of women. Because of polygamy, in which rich guys get to marry all of the eligible women, many poor, young men are left without mates or girlfriends. That, in turn creates a large population of horny and angry young Muslim males with nothing better to do then commit mass suicide in some jihad.

Free Muslim women! Let young Muslim guys get it on! End the sexual rage and tension in Muslim communities!

(1) Poland didn't deserve to be crushed, simply because Russia and Germany were both stronger and they'd agreed to each take a slice. And the ummah doesn't deserve to be conquered, just because they are weak.

(2) They're not all that weak. Islam, say what you will about what it does for the standard of living in the places it rules, is robust. Its adherents, for some reason, don't often switch religions. Religious minorities in its domain don't thrive, for some odd reason. The constant infighting doesn't make any real inroads on the population---for some reason, there aren't as many career women as in, say, Japan, and the birth rate is correspondingly higher.

(3) Whether Islam is a religion of peace is for Muslims to determine. There is text in their scripture that, interpreted just so, can point toward peace---something about what to do when the enemy stands like an iron wall.

To help them see things in that light, we need to also be people of peace, and make sure we look like, and are, an iron wall. Not an iron spearhead, bent on conquest, but just a wall. That way, the peace faction of the theological debate over in their camp has a chance of being heard, and the text about what to do when the enemy stands firm has a good chance to be read, and re-read, and pondered.

"1) Poland didn't deserve to be crushed, simply because Russia and Germany were both stronger and they'd agreed to each take a slice. And the ummah doesn't deserve to be conquered, just because they are weak."

Wars are won by the side that overcomes the other side. "Deserve?" It is a function of strength. The Ummah, by the way, conquered almost all of the Christan Holy Land when they were strong.

"(2) They're not all that weak. Islam, say what you will about what it does for the standard of living in the places it rules, is robust. Its adherents, for some reason, don't often switch religions. 'for some reason'= you have no idea what you are talking about. The penalty for apostasy from Islam is Death. Once Islam becomes the majority religion, Muslims steadily force non-muslims to convert or leave or die. Four wives per husband = higher birth rate.

"(3) Whether Islam is a religion of peace is for Muslims to determine. There is text in their scripture that, interpreted just so, can point toward peace---something about what to do when the enemy stands like an iron wall."
'Nasik Wah Mansuk.' It means the Abrogators and the Abrogated. Parts of the Koran are abrogated by later verses. Muslims can point out a 'peaceful' part of it to a Non-muslim, even though they know it is no longer in effect.

"To help them see things in that light, we need to also be people of peace, and make sure we look like, and are, an iron wall. Not an iron spearhead, bent on conquest, but just a wall. You really must not understand Islam. Muslims only respect force. Instead of an iron wall, we need to hit them with an iron mace when they attack us. You ponder, I'll get a rifle.
Sheesh.

re: #390 NelsFree

When I write "for some reason", it doesn't mean that I have no guess of my own, and it doesn't mean I think the reader has no clue either.

Nobody "respects only force". And force must be used with care, because all who have any dispute with the too-readily violent will reason that they must band together and act before they are picked off one by one.

Townsaver, if you didn't catch the reference, is magically sharp and ready, and is just about invincible when deployed in defense of innocent life.
But to set out to conquer and rule dar al Islam is a fool's errand. There's little there worth taking, and what there is that might be worth taking, the oil, well, the other great powers of the world would never stand for us taking it. There are also moral objections to such a project, and they're weighty objections, indeed, decisive, but somehow I don't think you'd find them very convincing.

Sheesh.

It just so happens that I had the MEMRI newsfeed titles listed on the left side of my LGF screen here when I read this post by Charles, and even though there are a couple of relatively sane-sounding items from Egyptian clerics, there is also this cluster of insanity that seems to only come from pure Jew-hatred:

Egyptian cleric Hazem Abu Ismail calls to boycot Pepsi: Name stands for 'Pay Every Penny to Save Israel'

Egyptian MP Ragab Hilal Hamidah: Hitler was acting in self-defense

Children memorize and recite antisemitic messages on an Egyptian Islamist channel

Egyptian cleric Said Al-Afani: Jews are the offspring of snakes and vipers and were behind all wars

Egyptian cleric Sheik Masoud Anwar: the worst enemies of the Muslims - after Satan - are the Jews
____

Yeah, that's a perfect country for Barack Obama to make his Muslim Address from.

399 elrushbuni  Sat, May 9, 2009 3:19:36am

The millions we pay to Egypt every year amounts to the jizya tax. Without this money they would be just as stubbornly Islamic as Iran & Syria. The only reason Saudi Arabia is even on a handshake basis with us is because they have to profit from the oil. There is NO friendship for the sake of friendship (without the jizya tax in the form of "aid"-- you can call it whatever you want) between nations of the Middle East and the West -- this should speak volumes.

I hope Obama doesn't forget to call them all out for that. They all need to grow up and stop getting so incensed over petty things such as cartoons, Koran pages, and books written outside of Islam. They all need to stop searching for reasons and manufacturing excuses to kill and maim in the name of G-d. What "religion" does that? The Muslims don't even know what the word "religion" means! (No joke - it is a Western concept). I hope Obama gives them a lecture -- the Muslim world needs to hear that will lend some credence to the word "citizenship" as it relates to the way one conducts himself against non-believers; and self-discipline where suicide bombing and rocket launching is concerned. I hope Obama reminds them that non-believers have rights too, and they need to stop setting fire to churches. I think if he really applied himself he would get some results and the whole Muslim world will see the light and start singing Koombaya alongside their Jewish cousins and leave well enough alone in countries where they out of their element, so to speak.

Kosh's Shadow -
