‘Pro-Koln’ Fascist Update

The first day of the “anti-Islamization” conference in Köln, Germany, was an utter disaster for the pro-Köln and pro-NRW groups; only about 80 people showed up at the pro-NRW demonstration in Dormagen, and only 60 at the pro-Köln demonstration in Leverkusen. There were more counter-protesters than anti-Islam protesters in both places: Whistles and boos against the rights.

Hey, where's Pamela?

2 Kragar  Fri, May 8, 2009 3:57:52pm

Out of curiousity, who made up the ranks of the counter protestors? Were they pro-islamization groups or pro-democracy groups who disagree with the fascists?

3 rwmofo  Fri, May 8, 2009 3:58:47pm

Is that Pat Buchanan over there?

4 DaddyG  Fri, May 8, 2009 3:59:08pm

Thank goodness. Sanity may not be dead yet.

I hope the parasitical attachment of racist groups to legitimate causes flames out very quickly. The danger is that some very evil people will get away with murder because other nutty and somewhat evil people are publicly identified as their enemies.

Of course I meant they should still be taken on. 140 is just for the protestors so I'm sure there are many more in the shadows. Given that they were expecting counter-protestors I'm sure a lot didn't take to the streets.

From the anti-islamization website...

The press conference is about half an hour without any disturbance has been opened. After receiving statements from the chairman of the pro-motion Markus Beisicht, the FPÖ General Secretary Harald Vilimsky, the Vienna Minister Johann Herzog, the Vlaams Belang-Hilde-MPs Delobel and the French politician Robert Players (auto translation error, this is Robert Spieiler) are currently over 40 journalists present their questions. Alle Nachrichtenagenturen, alle relevanten deutschen Fernsehsender und alle relevanten regionalen- und überregionalen Zeitungen sind vertreten, zudem auch viele Medienvertreter aus dem benachbarten Ausland! All news agencies, all relevant German television, and all relevant regional and national newspapers are represented, also many media representatives from the neighboring countries!

I just looked at all the pics (30 of them) here (hope link works).

Who showed up? It looked like people for not being idiotic racists (including families, children, etc.), cops, cops, more cops, skinheads looking for trouble, anti-skinheads, cops, and Turkish immigrants being pro Turish immigrant, obviously. The anti-racists looked serious, the Turks looked like they were having a good time taunting the racists, and the skinheads - mostly they were being wrestled away by cops. The cops looked incredibly over-prepared, which is better than the opposite!

I couldn't figure out if anyone in the pics represented the racists, or whatever they call themselves, except the skinheads, of course.

As far as I could tell, the only ones causing trouble were a couple of skinheads.

Someone submitted that as a spinoff link a few threads back. I like your link more, though, because it somehow provides different ways to sort the pictures. There are over 700 of them! It was taking me a while to get through them. Some are really good.

I think Mayor Bloomberg should print the best hundred or so pictures, put them in a nice album, and present them to Obama as a gift the next time he makes an official appearance in New York.

Ah yes, I see. At the bottom of the photographer's canopy.

Actually now that you mention it, this is more than just bad photography. I mentioned before that the photo that the White House released probably wasn't the one that was meant to be used, because it was shot from above and from due east of the statue, so that the background of the photo was just the barren industrial facilities of Jersey City.

I suspect that the photo that was intended for actual use was to be shot from below and from the south or southwest of the statue, so that the Manhattan skyline would be in the background. And I hypothesized that the White House wouldn't release that photo, because the skyscrapers in the background would just remind everyone of all of the screaming, terrified people running out of them.

The canopy rail supports that. I'm SURE that the DOD didn't spend $360,000 on a photo shoot just to have some fighter pilot snap the photos with his pocket camera. It looks like the White House frantically went calling the fighter pilots to see if they had any snapshots taken from the reverse angle.

Maybe Obama should sell copies of the Mecca one when he does his little suckup gig in Egypt. I'm guessing about 70% of the audience would think it was really cool and respectful that he paid his respects Mecca, and the other 30% would declare the photo grounds for beheading him.

Ok - maybe I stretched the meaning a wee bit. Jut a weee bit.

Grok means to understand so thoroughly that the observer becomes a part of the observed—to merge, blend, intermarry, lose identity in group experience. It means almost everything that we mean by religion, philosophy, and science—and it means as little to us (because of our Earthly assumptions) as color means to a blind man.
