A jammie wearing grunt. Now I've seen everything.

What's the military coming to?

Well at least they're boxer shorts. They give the family jewels room to breathe and stops the crotch-rot.

Could have been a pair of thongs. Then when he runs out of 5.56 bb's he can use them like David when he slew Goliath.

18 Shr_Nfr  Wed, May 13, 2009 11:20:11pm

The Saudis have condemned his dress code and as a punishment sentenced him to attend Friday services for a month and read the Koran.

They stated that it was not because he was not wearing pants, but that the pants said "I love NY". If they had said "I love Goats" everything would have been ok.

You need not wear a uniform, but you must at least wear an identifying insignia. IMO, the top of his uniform is sufficient insignia. The individuals at Camp Gitmo had no uniform or no unifying insignia. Truth is hard for moonbats to deal with.

Considering the boxers say, "I Love NY", we can be pretty sure he's not on Osama Bin Laden's side.

36 redc1c4  Wed, May 13, 2009 11:40:07pm

what's interesting is the total layout of the position.... look at the boulders under their feet: serious BFR's, and yet they weren't incorporated into the defense, and there are no firing ports, just HESCO bins filled with sand bags..... more or less.

no over head cover, etc... i'm hoping there's a good reason, because my Drills at Benning would have had a field day on the issues.

I won't say a word about it until I see a better picture of the full postion. There may be some reasons why it's laid out that way.

41 redc1c4  Wed, May 13, 2009 11:51:21pm

looking at the whole pic, it almost makes me wonder if this is an *after* pic.....

everything's calm and look at PFC Boxer..... right side guy is standing upright, behind a bipod weapon with a scope.... M240 or 249?

middle guy also appears th ahve a bipod weapon, and he's standing up too.

PFC Boxer is hunkered down on his sights on an M-4.... which is shorter ranged than the other possibilities, and he's aiming across their fields of fire.

i call posed after the fact to replicate reality that might have been a bit dangerous for the photog.

I'm just worried about his shirt being, you know, bright freaking red and all.

OT - I was just reading about my hometown online, and under its rather short list of "famous residents" there was the name of a CNN producer who worked with Christiane "Hell-Bound" Amanpour on that "God's Warriors" series a couple of years ago. It's one thing to know that there's a political slant in media, it's another thing to find out that somebody you know is working for the enemy. This girl graduated a year ahead of me and she ran with a crowd I was loosely connected to - I remember her well enough. Now she's a hipster media type, but in my mind she's the short freckled chick on the volleyball team.

Amanpour... shudder. I'd have to wash myself if I came near her, never mind working with her. Ugh.

(But then again the Hot 100 lists are not really meant to be objective either, I am sure there are plenty of guys who have sweaty Michelle Obama fantasies. He's going to propose a number of bad, untenable....if not outright disastrous....policy decisions (GI's paying for service-related injuries, anyone?) and then back away from them and propose something marginally less shitty so he comes across as a moderate and open to compromise when it was probably the 'compromise' he was after all along.

I've been saying this for sometime now:

The Best Part of Obama's Economics

No big business will ever again ask for a bailout. They'll trust themselves to bankruptcy courts first.

As a bonus, large unionized firms will find themselves cut off from long-term capital. Before this, private-sector unions were down but not out. Now they're out but have not yet been taken off the field.

You'll know when you've caught the eye of the 0bama administration when they say that you'll be getting your own "personalized tax rate".

That, and when they make me unionize (myself) and then "suggest" that I resign as CEO. At which point my headless, unionized company will be eligible for MegaBailoutBucks™, and I'll finally be able to pay my bills AND work on my tan.

/so you see, it's all good!

Has anyone else seen this? Giannoulias threatens bank over Obama suit-maker

Illinois Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias is threatening to pull state business from Wells Fargo & Co. unless the bank stops trying to liquidate a company that makes suits for President Barack Obama.

Some much for Hope and Change.

If I were the head of Wells Fargo, my answer would be, "Wait! If we continue to pursue this company's liquidation, the state of Illinois promises to no longer do business with us? If we can get that in writing, you have a deal!"

230 Shiplord Kirel  Thu, May 14, 2009 3:44:56am

I agree with Red that this is probably a re-enactment. The photog is fatally exposed since he is obviously above the others, and they are much too exposed for a real firefight.

During the unpleasantness in Southeast Asia, I fled my rack for the nearest hole in nothing but my skivvies more than once when Charlie decided to interrupt our sleep with rockets or mortars. I didn't have anything so colorful, however, just the plain army boxers. I did learn to grab a blanket or (perferably) a poncho after the first such excursion; you wouldn't believe how cold it is in Vietnam when you're ass deep in mud, in the middle of the night, wearing nothing but your underwear.
I never forgot my M-16, either, just in case the baddies decided to show up in person (which did happen, but always when I was fully dressed).

I meant redc1c4. Sorry.

re: #41 redc1c4

looking at the whole pic, it almost makes me wonder if this is an *after* pic.....

everything's calm and look at PFC Boxer..... right side guy is standing upright, behind a bipod weapon with a scope....

250 Shiplord Kirel  Thu, May 14, 2009 4:12:52am

No doubt the Taliban are puzzled, if not terrified, by this strange apparition.

Like most under-educated folk here in the twenty-first century, they lean toward conspiracist thinking and it would never occur to them that this event might be the result of chance. It would have to be the manifestation of some evil plan hatched in the bowels of the Pentagon, perhaps a new special forces group whose colorful and eccentric uniforms were designed by a cabal of evil behaviorists to induce hallucinations or seizures in all who confront them.
The even more backward might assume that it is an evil jinn siding with the crusaders for its own inscrutably diabolical purposes.
I hope they apply whatever brain power they have to finding an explanation, leaving that much less to plan bombings and terror attacks.

FBV, My daughter, who has her Masters in Human nutrition, told us some time ago that to reduce muscle soreness that accompanies new workout routines, take extra Vitamin C. We used to get it in powder form and mix it into juice. It works, although I can't remember the amount to use. I seem to remember just mixing about a teaspoon of the powder into the juice.

Has the economy turned the corner in your opinion?

I think it has stabilized a bit.

You will see unemployment keep rising and inflation is starting to heat up.

This is going to be a very long slow climb back out of this, mainly due to Obama's tax and spend polices and his anti-business attitude.

The market will level put but investors will be very hesitant to put their cash back in cause why should you take the risk, only to have Obama tax away your profits if the investment works out.

How do the unemployment numbers look? As someone who is out of work, I do not like the sound of a shrinking economy. And when should we start to see positive employment numbers?

Good morning Lizardia!

Here is a word of advice for you. Do not ever, EVER take "Lunesta" as a sleep aid. You will make up with a taste in your mouth like you ate a bunch of skunk. It is horrible! 2 coffees will not get rid of it. I am eyeing that bar of chocolate in the pantry.

With Ambien (zolpidem), the worst you can do is maybe post a bunch of dumb shit on LGF, get the Stinky stick and then wake up and say "whad' ah do?"

Looking at Boyd in that picture snapped me back to one of the low points in my army career: being caught naked, weaponless and more than a little soused right outside the officers' hooch just as the local vc launched a late-night all-out mortar, rocket and small arms attack on our LZ. Really and truly happened to me folks.

ps: I had had a towel and some flip-flops on (I was sneaking into the officers' shower since the em's had no water) but they went flying as I dove for cover.

How do the unemployment numbers look? As someone who is out of work, I do not like the sound of a shrinking economy. And when should we start to see positive employment numbers?

Unemployment numbers are up some from last week; consensus was for a slight decline, and the market isn't liking the news.

From what I've read, most economists don't expect employment to improve until late summer/early fall at the very soonest; some push recovery estimates into late 2009/early 2010. Employment is always the very last thing to improve following a recession.

Hard to say without a couple more months of actual numbers. I don't trust the weekly readings much, and even the monthlies are subject to revision after they're released. It looks like the unemployment rate might be dropping, but it isn't a real trend yet and the rates are still bad, even if they're improving.

Is the Pope a friend of Israel?

Doesn't seem that way:

"In a world where more and more borders are being opened up -- to trade, to travel, to movement of peoples, to cultural exchanges -- it is tragic to see walls still being erected," Benedict said at Bethlehem's Aida refugee camp, where he spoke in a U.N. schoolyard with the wall and an Israeli military watchtower in the background.

Better to have suicide bombers? The Vatican's response to those was to say both sides need to work for "peace" as if both sides were equivalent.

He twice called Wednesday for international pressure to establish a Palestinian state, and he said he prayed for an end to the embargo on Gaza.

How about some "international pressure" to stop Palestinian terrorism?

The quest for peace "takes on a particular poignancy as you recall the events of May 1948 and the years of conflict, as yet unresolved, that followed from those events," Benedict said at the refugee camp, where he expressed "solidarity with all the homeless Palestinians who long to be able to return to their birthplace."

Right. Let's have all the Palestinians return to Israel Prue-1948. That way there won't be a Jewish State and then perhaps the Vatican will be happy.

How do the unemployment numbers look? As someone who is out of work, I do not like the sound of a shrinking economy. And when should we start to see positive employment numbers?

Sorry for the delay, was riding my bike to work.

I think unemployment (now about 8.9%) will keep growing and top out somewhere around 10%. Unemployment will eventually stop growing so fast cause those healthy businesses out there have cut all they can and still operate. But business will be very slow to add more staff going forward. First, this downturn really shocked people. Second, with Obama in the White House and talking about raising taxes and taxing health insurance, business will be leery of adding more staff until the future is better known.. Third, the "stimulus bill" will have very little impact on employment and actually will contribute long term to stagflation.

You will start to see a significant turn around in the economic indicators in about 6 months. Starting September the comparison numbers will start looking better just cause the number they will be comparing to from 2008 will have been so bad that it won't be hard to look good by comparison.

Now given all that, remember back that Obama's budget assumed a 4% growth in GDP every year going forward. No way that is going to happen with his socialistic policies,

OT: The hypocrite-in-chief yesterday called on the government in Sri Lanka to declare a cease fire because civilians are caught between the Tamil Tigers and the military. This following the recent call for Pakistan to step it up against AQ/Taliban with full knowledge of the respect Pakistan's military shows the civilians in the tribal areas.

Just in time I might add.

"Tamil rebels, for decades, have waged a violent campaign for an independent homeland. At its zenith, in 2006, the LTTE once controlled significant territory in the north and east (about one-third of the island) but a determined military offensive this year has pushed them to a tiny patch of the coast.

Government officials say they expect a total battlefield victory will be achieved any day.

362 CommonCents  Thu, May 14, 2009 6:25:23am

I do. Jenny's big line in the last election was "wait until you see the next 5 years". We've seen it and felt it. I think the state may be ready for a business leader type instead of a cushy lawyer type now. We're last in the country in unemployment (or first depending on how you look at it).

My best friend is a liberal, but he respects me enough to not bring up politics when we get together. However, everyone else that he hangs out with are flaming libtards & they won't shut up - it's the air they breathe. Morning Honcos!

Strangeness in Burma (but what else is new).

Lake swimmer could cost Suu Kyi her freedom

Hopes for the release of Burma's pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi were dashed today with the announcement she has been arrested for violating the terms of her house arrest and could face up to five years' confinement after a bizarre intrusion by an American who swam across a lake to her home.

[snip]

Supporters fear the Burmese authorities will prolong her detention indefinitely, exploiting the fact that John William Yettaw – a middle-aged American described by one of her staff as "a nutty fellow" – was allowed to stay for two days at the villa after pleading exhaustion from his mile-long swim.

Suu Kyi's chief lawyer, Kyi Win, said: "Everyone is very angry with this wretched American. He is the cause of all these problems. He's a fool."

There was bemusement that Yettaw was not picked up immediately by the Burmese authorities, who keep close watch on the lakeside outside her compound. He turned up at her compound on 3 May and was arrested after swimming back two days later.

GOVERNMENT MOTORS: CHINESE-MADE CARS TO USA!

Now we know what Hillary was talking about when she visited Beijing.

The Rise of Chimerica

We are living through a challenge to a phenomenon Moritz Schularick and I have christened “Chimerica.” In this view, the most important thing to understand about the world economy over the past decade has been the relationship between China and America. If you think of it as one economy called Chimerica, that relationship accounts for around 13 percent of the world’s land surface, a quarter of its population, about a third of its gross domestic product, and somewhere over half of the global economic growth of the past six years.

For a time, it was a symbiotic relationship that seemed like a marriage made in heaven. Put simply, one half did the saving, the other half the spending. Comparing net national savings as a proportion of Gross National Income, American savings declined from above 5 percent in the mid 1990s to virtually zero by 2005, while Chinese savings surged from below 30 percent to nearly 45 percent. This divergence in saving patterns allowed a tremendous explosion of debt in the United States, for one effect of the Asian “savings glut” was to make it much cheaper for households to borrow money than would otherwise have been the case. Meanwhile, low-cost Chinese labor helped hold down inflation.

The crucial mechanism that bound the two halves of Chimerica together was currency intervention. To keep the renminbi (and hence Chinese exports) competitive, authorities in Beijing consistently intervened to halt the appreciation of their own currency against the dollar. The result was a vast accumulation of dollar-denominated securities in the reserves of the People’s Bank of China, which became one of the world’s biggest holders of U.S. Treasuries as well as bonds issued by the government-sponsored (now government-owned) agencies Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Had it not been for the Chinese willingness to fund America’s borrowing habit this way, interest rates in the United States would have been substantially higher. It was Chimerica that kept the Age of Leverage going in its final phase, as total public and private debt as a percentage of GDP surged from 250 to 350 percent.

Back in Dec. Seattle had a snow removal fiasco.

It's gonna' cost more and more.....

$800,000 to fix Seattle street department

Dysfunction at the city's transportation department will cost taxpayers at least $805,000 in consultants, investigations and payouts to employees, but the mayor's office said Wednesday that the money will be well spent if it improves the department's performance.

On top of $515,000 already spent investigating the street-maintenance division, the city expects to shell out $150,000-plus for consultants to tell the department how to improve its daily operations and better respond to future snowstorms.

And Seattle scratches it's political head wondering how come it has a deficit.

Let's try this the Mayor should show some leadership. Fire the political hacks, hire people with real world experience and tell them to get on with it.

It's also a microcosm of what's wrong with government period. No can make a fucking decision, it's got to be consulted, studied and reviewed till the taxpayers cry foul.

Good morning all,

Regarding alternative energy sources, I found this to be both a sobering and enlightening article. Oddly enough, it found its way to CNN. (Posted in the spinoff links as well.)

Commentary: Let's get real about alternative energy

Let's express energy consumption and energy production using simple personal units, namely kilowatt-hours. One kilowatt-hour (kWh) is the energy used by leaving a 40-watt bulb on for 24 hours. The chemical energy in the food we eat to stay alive amounts to about 3 kWh per day. Taking one hot bath uses about 5 kWh of heat. Driving an average European car 100 kilometers (roughly 62 miles) uses 80 kWh of fuel. With a few of these numbers in mind, we can start to evaluate some of the recommendations that people make about energy.

As a thought-experiment, let's imagine that technology switches and lifestyle changes manage to halve American energy consumption to 125 kWh per day per person. How big would the solar, wind and nuclear facilities need to be to supply this halved consumption? For simplicity, let's imagine getting one-third of the energy supply from each.

To supply 42 kWh per day per person from solar power requires roughly 80 square meters per person of solar panels.

To deliver 42 kWh per day per person from wind for everyone in the United States would require wind farms with a total area roughly equal to the area of California, a 200-fold increase in United States wind power.

To get 42 kWh per day per person from nuclear power would require 525 one-gigawatt nuclear power stations, a roughly five-fold increase over today's levels.

I hope these numbers convey the scale of action required to put in place a sustainable energy solution. What about tidal power? What about wave power? What about geothermal energy, biofuels or hydroelectricity? In a short article, I can't discuss all the technology options.

But the sober message about wind and solar applies to all renewables: All renewables, much as I love them, deliver only a small power per unit area, so if we want renewable facilities to supply power on a scale at all comparable to our consumption, those facilities must be big.

Editor's note on the article: David MacKay is a professor of physics at the University of Cambridge. His book, "Sustainable Energy - Without the Hot Air," is published by UIT Cambridge and is also available in electronic form for free from [Link: www.withouthotair.com...]

I found it interesting how much of these "green" alternatives that the administration wants to use seem to do so little. It would seem our best bet for the near future would be to go nuclear.

525 lawhawk  Thu, May 14, 2009 7:31:29am

Just because Li'l Kim needs more attention: North Korea putting US journalists on trial. The charges? The regime isn't saying (because they haven't stopped laughing over their good fortune and are trying to come up with the wording on the verdict so that they can match the indictments).

Obama continues to be tested - and keeps failing. North Korea saw what the US did vis-a-vis Iran and the Roxana Saberi situation, and now they want a piece of that.

Yet commentators should hesitate before prophesying the decline and fall of the United States. It has come through disastrous financial crises before—not just the Great Depression, but also the Great Stagflation of the 1970s—and emerged with its geopolitical position enhanced. That happened in the 1940s and again in the 1980s.

Part of the reason it happened is that the United States has long offered the world’s most benign environment for technological innovation and entrepreneurship...

Moreover, the American political system has repeatedly proved itself capable of producing leadership in a crisis—leadership not just for itself but for the world. Both Franklin Roosevelt and Ronald Reagan came to power focused on solving America’s economic problems. But by the end of their presidencies they dominated the world stage, FDR as the architect of victory in World War II, Reagan performing a similar role in the Cold War. It remains to be seen whether Barack Obama will be a game-changing president in the same mold. But Americans voted for him in the hope that he is.

Not bloody likely...

In any case, is even the fastest growing of America’s rivals really a credible alternative to the United States? Rapidly though it is growing, China is bedeviled by three serious ailments: demographic imbalance, environmental degradation and political corruption. China’s military is not remotely ready to mount a serious challenge to American dominance in the Pacific. And, crucially, it is far from clear that China is ready to wean its manufacturing sector completely off the U.S. export market. After three years of very mild renminbi appreciation, the People’s Bank of China seems to be contemplating renewed intervention to keep the currency weak relative to the dollar. That means China will continue to sell renminbi for dollars, further enlarging its already large portfolio of U.S. bonds.

The GM deal is one way to keep the Chinese on side with America, buying up US Treasury bonds and funding the US economic recovery with their savings. The price for this is the outsourcing of US car manufacturing to China.

He's trying to have it both ways. The Circuit Court ruled that the Administration has to release these photos. The Administration can either appeal, or they must comply. They (He) can't just decide to not release them. If he doesn't appeal to the Supreme Court, and as far as I can see, that's not in the works, then the photos will be released, but The One can be on record as having opposed their release.

Thanks for clearing that up for turn, duh. I sensed it wasn't over and had a sinking feeling they will be released.

More ganging up on Israel:
Abdullah Tells Netanyahu in Amman: Accept PA State ‘Immediately'

Jordan’s King Abdullah II, hosting Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu in a previously unannounced visit Thursday morning, demanded that he “immediately declare his commitment to a two-state solution, [declare] acceptance of the Arab peace initiative and to take necessary steps to move forward toward a solution.”
He also said that Israel must open all crossings into Gaza, which was taken over by the Hamas terrorist organization two years ago.

Not a modified plan where the refugees go to Arab countries.
The original "make Israel into another Arab state" plan.
Consider this:

After King Abdullah’s discussions with President Obama in Washington last month, the monarch warned that war will break out within the next 18 months if Israel does not accept the Saudi Arabian 2002 Peace Plan, based on shrinking the size of Israel to that which existed in 1949. The plan also calls for the right of approximately five million foreign Arabs to immigrate to Israel on the basis of their families having once lived there, prior to fleeing during the 1948 War of Independence.

It looks like the world, and Obama, is telling Israel "Commit suicide or else!"

re: #524 Honorary Yooper

Good morning all,

Regarding alternative energy sources, I found this to be both a sobering and enlightening article. Oddly enough, it found its way to CNN. (Posted in the spinoff links as well.)

Commentary: Let's get real about alternative energy

Editor's note on the article: David MacKay is a professor of physics at the University of Cambridge. His book, "Sustainable Energy - Without the Hot Air," is published by UIT Cambridge and is also available in electronic form for free from [Link: www.withouthotair.com...]

I found it interesting how much of these "green" alternatives that the administration wants to use seem to do so little. It would seem our best bet for the near future would be to go nuclear.

Nukes offer the huge advantage of being available right now. We can start building nuclear plants tomorrow if there's a desire to. Many alternative energy proposals are barely off the drawing boards, or still firmly there, and will need extensive development and testing in the marketplace before they achieve even their minimal potential.

That said, energy diversity is also a good thing. Wind power is sort of OK - in some areas. I can easily see erecting offshore windmills a few miles off the coasts of the Great Lakes, for example, to supply a portion of the Midwest's energy needs. In many areas, though - like the heavily forested Pacific Northwest, for example - wind power isn't such a great idea. Ruggedizing platforms to survive in the Pacific is expensive, and inland you'd need to cut down a helluva lot of trees to make this work. But in areas where the topography permits, it's a nice supplement.

But we'll need more than supplements rather quickly. And the fastest, surest way to provide sufficient power is with nuke plants.

I read about this pitcher in my ESPN magazine. His name is Pat Venditte and he is an amidextrous pitcher. I have never seen anything like it. Here is an article about him...

Lefty, righty or both: The Pat Venditte Story

Rick Reilly spreads the word of amidextrous pitcher Pat Venditte in an ESPN piece. Seamheads have known about Venditte for awhile, especially here in the Midwest as he played his college ball at Creighton. I'd kind of forgotten about him until Reilly's piece came out today. Sounds like the kid may have a real shot at getting to the big leagues someday and if he comes up with the Yankees and does well, he's going to be really famous. How could the Royals miss out on such a marketable gimmick who toiled in the backyard of their own Class AAA affiliate? Bring me the head of those responsible! This is Pujols all over again. (This is mock indignation, if you haven't figured that out already.)

As part of the study, participants were asked a series of questions and were instructed to grade their level of sympathy of Israel on a 1-10 scale. re: #555 Iron Fist

Weakness is like artierial plaque. It may not kill you immediately, but it builds up in the system until it does kill you. Every time the One caves a little more, it gets that much more difficult to actually get something done. I am reminded of the plane incident right at the beginning of W's first term. the Chinese wanted to see if they could break this new President. I'd say the response they got was not to their liking, and Imperial Communist China played ball from that point on

And some of the things Obama has done are irreparably weakening the US. When he pisses of our allies like Britain and Japan (like over the North Korean missile), or even those who don't like us but rely on our protection, like Saudi Arabia (who wants something done before Iran gets nukes), they will find other allies and never trust the US again.
If we need their support later, we won't have it.

And it will cost in other ways. Japan is deciding whether to buy a US fighter or build their own. I think our lack of support over North Korea will affect that decision. And once they build the aircraft, they'll sell them, hurting Lockheed and Boeing, and making our aircraft more expensive.

I thought he'd be bad, but not this bad; the US is significantly weaker in ways that might not be corrected for decades, if ever.

Yesterday I put up a post/poll breaking creation theory down into the various subcategories of creation theory, from new earth creationism to theistic evolution. If you suscribe to any type of creation theory, even theistic evolution, feel free to come over and cast yer vote.

This morning I'm working to break evolution theory down into the various subcategories (darwinism, neo-darwinism, and the various macro/micros). It's quite a bit more challenging, and I haven't had nearly enough coffee yet for this kind of brainwork.

So I'm popping in here for a while, to combat brain drain and relax.

Also, India has their own group of Islamic terrorists they're fighting.
I've sensed this support from Indian co-workers as well.
This is why I speculated yesterday that the MiGs Israel is using to train against come from India, and that Israel and India will cooperate more closely on defense, perhaps building their own aircraft since the US doesn't want to sell Israel the latest, without strong controls on what Israel can do with them. (Like preventing any modification or repair of the F-35 computer)

It's great. I doubt it was on the NYTIMES front page for the reasons WE like it. I'm sure they put it up there for a different type of message.

Otherwise, get a load of this:

re: #559 SixDegrees

SHOVEL READY!

Damn...but not "politically correct"

Aren't the courts forgetting they are a co-equal branch?

In order for the Executive Branched to be forced into abandoning what it claims to be an exclusive Executive branch function / privilege both the Legislative and Judicial would have to be in agreement on the specific issue.

Congress would have to legislate or subpoena and the courts uphold to release the material.

The courts alone do not have the power. Or aren't supposed to.

About that whole Niger uranium business...

Bush said he had received intelligence from a foreign source (later identified as the UK) that Iraqi agents had sought uranium in Africa (later identified to be Niger).

Joe Wilson was sent to verify this report. Wilson interviewed various Nigerian officials who told them that, yes indeed, Iraqi agents had come to Niger seeking to buy uranium but were told no, they can't buy any.

In short: Wilson confirmed what Bush said. Saddam sought uranium in Africa.

So why did the NYT and the rest of the liberal media claim Bush lied that Iraq sought uranium in Africa?

Karl "Magnificent Bastard" Rove has got Pelosi in his sights...

If Mrs. Pelosi considers the enhanced interrogation techniques to be torture, didn't she have a responsibility to complain at the time, introduce legislation to end the practices, or attempt to deny funding for the CIA's use of them? If she knew what was going on and did nothing, does that make her an accessory to a crime of torture, as many Democrats are calling enhanced interrogation?

...

It is disgraceful that Democrats who discovered their outrage years after the fact are now braying for disbarment of the government lawyers who justified EITs and the prosecution of Bush administration officials who authorized them. Mrs. Pelosi is hip-deep in dangerous waters, and they are rapidly rising.

It's about shaping perception to make sure your "enemy" is isolated. Bismark did it in building Germany out of the many city stetas, Alinsky wrote it n his book, we just didn't study him before The WON came along. Basic political power play tactics...truth be damned, so long as you are the one in the place of making rules...

Also, when their paper bills come in, they look just like junk mail - nothing anywhere on the envelope that says, "BILL ENCLOSED" or "STATEMENT ENCLOSED" - usually some advertising. The WASHINGTON POST's "Mensa Invitational" once again asked aspiring geniuses to ALTER ANY WORD BY ADDING, SUBTRACTING, OR CHANGING ONE LETTER , and then supply a new definition. Here are the 2009 winners:

1. Cashtration (n.): The act of buying a house, which renders the subject financially impotent for an indefinite period of time.

2. Ignoranus : A person who's both stupid and an asshole.

3. Intaxication : Euphoria at getting a tax refund, which lasts until you realize it was your money to start with.

10. Osteopornosis : A degenerate disease. (This one got extra credit.)

12. Decafalon (n.): The gruelling event of getting through the day consuming only things that are good for you.

13. Glibido : All talk and no action.

14. Dopeler Effect: The tendency of stupid ideas to seem smarter when they come at you rapidly.

15. Arachnoleptic Fit (n.): The frantic dance performed just after you've accidentally walked through a spider web.

16. Beelzebug (n.) : Satan in the form of a mosquito, that gets into your bedroom at three in the morning and cannot be cast out.

17. Caterpallor ( n.): The color you turn after finding half a worm in the fruit you're eating.

The WASHINGTON POST has also published the winning submissions to another yearly contest, in which readers are asked to supply ALTERNATE MEANINGS FOR COMMON WORDS. And the winners are:

2. Flabbergasted , adj. Appalled by discovering how much weight one has gained.

13. Pokemon , n.. A Rastafarian proctologist.

14. Oyster , n. A person who sprinkles his conversation with Yiddishisms.

15. Frisbeetarianism , n. The belief that, after death, the soul flies up onto the roof and gets stuck there.

16. Circumvent , n. An opening in the front of boxer shorts worn by Jewish men.

And the Mensa LGF version of words with alternate meanings:

Capitalization: winning a debate by capitalizing the first letter of a word such as Truth to make it more meaningful; or, typing in ALL CAPS so your words mean more.

re: #758 Iron Fist

I know, it is just wishful thinking. Although by the same lights her people (i.e. the moonbat Left) are calling Bush Administration officials "war criminals" she definately fits the pattern. Maybe that will wake the Democrats up, and they'll see how wrong they were and how their bitter, divisive rhetoric has emboldened America's enemies abroad and disheartened Americans here at Home.

oh? They do see that? that was the goal you say? oh, my...

Some see it. Some do not.

Anyone else finding they can't get to new threads or reload?
If this posts, it means I can post, and I can get new comments, but I can't get to the new thread.
No error, it just takes sits there with a header.

Nancy Pelosi is tottering -- and may crash when the CIA responds to her 'lying' accusations.

She totally miscalculated. The CIA can be really nasty in a fight like this.
She has changed her story over & over & it looks like there is sufficient evidence to establish that she at the very least gave tacit approval to the methods.

Of course, the berserkers didn't wear pants either, and they chased off the Roman Army.

Maybe this pantless thing has some merits.

Then again, the Romans ALSO didn't wear pants.

Some of the greatest armies the world has ever known walked around with no pants on.

re: #775 opnion

Pelosi is not the only person from congress to have attended these briefings and approve of the methods. Plenty of other Democrats did too. But she was the one stupid enough to stand up and lie about it, while all the others were hiding under their desks.

You counting on the fact that most lizards are tired now, or is it that you are tired and didn't mean your list to be the Decalogue(yes, I know that all that is in there in various places and you missed a bunch)?

I left before this was posted, but the answer is yes, I did mean that list as the 10 Commandments. The Bible specifically refers to that list not only as being the 10 Commandments, but also specifically as being the list on the stone tablets given to Moses. See Exodus 34: 1-28.

If you know of another Bible passage that refers to any other list as the 10 Commandments, please share that Bible passage with me.

Forget the boxers. Hasn't this kid ever watched Star Trek? You don't ever wear a red shirt in a dangerous place.

783 Render  Thu, May 14, 2009 5:44:38pm

Way late to this thread (testing IE8 - still way slow on threads over 600 comments CJ).

Pantless GI (ab-so-lute-ly badazz young man carry on). does have an M-4 with all the add-ons and upgrades.

Middle man appears to have an M-249, but that brown section is very odd. There is no wood on an M-249. Possibly a captured PKM or bolt action sniper rifle?

Guy on the right, standing way too tall, doesn't appear to have a weapon at all. But he does have a daylight spotting scope over his right shoulder and what appears to be a flipped up night vision scope on his helmet mounting point.

I saw a couple of knowledgable people up thread commenting on the quality of the firing position itself and they're right, it's umm how do I put this...double plus ungood. But without the visible context of the entire firebase not worth the judgement call. Could be a listening position or a temporary sniper post.

Not my fault. It's Internet Explorer that's slow, not LGF. If you use Safari or Firefox you won't have that problem.

The story with the pic said that he's been in over 200 firefights...

It would be more impressive if he'd made it through the other 199 wearing that bright red shirt.

786 neanderthal  Thu, May 14, 2009 11:41:15pm

Boyd needs to cover that bright red T-shirt with something. But other than that, it's totally awesome.

Be safe! Carry on, gentlemen! :D
