But what kinda MPG does the Hubble get?

2.8 billion miles travelled for the HST... 12 billion watts of power in a shuttle launch, according to the internuts. I'm not sure how that computes to MPG. The (considerable) launch energy of STS-31 would have to be divided by the energy output from burning a gallon of gas.

I could do all the math but I'm lazy and would probably screw it up. I'll leave the math to somebody with a better head for physics and chemistry.

I am all for private competition, but we also have nations that seem intent on militarizing space.

I agree with you that weaponizing of space is not a question of if but when. I'd expect Russia and China to install kinetic weapons in space to counter US Carrier Battle Groups with the US developing better energy weapons and missiles to counter them. Hypersonic spacecraft both bombers and fighters between the three nations are most certainly in the works or on at least on paper.

Yeah. (I'd have to read the transcript -- Obama, in answering that reporter, mumbled something about "yeah, they're linked, but run in the opposite direction" -- not quoting here, but something to that effect...I'm not certain what Obama meant by suggesting the link runs in the opposite direction (?))

The original isn't like that at all. It's got character development, intrigue, and suspense. Plus, it's anti-Communist.

Back then, brainwashing was a fairly new idea.

He said that solving the Iranian Nuclear problem might not lead to solving the Israeli-Palestinian problems but that the OTHER direction is definitely linked. That Solving the Israeli-Palestinian issue WILL make it easier to deal with IRAN. Or words to that effect. It was crystal clear.

If it's done well, I don't mind. Some humor; some grace; some elegance in dialog and plot, cover a multitude of political sins.

I haven't seen decent framing of shots, or heard decent dialog, in a current film in years. And the number of casual, glaring anachronisms whenever they attempt anything period is just sad.

I actually like the in-your-face directness the movie displays. Gave the actors some well deserved time to chew the scenery.

Oh, and most importantly, PRESIDENTS had better measure their words and be careful what they say. What they might think or say in private is one things, but "mumbling" asinine bullshit in public is another thing. Something an amateur might do. Yeah I know he is.

Agreed.

Houses are moving, but that's because bank-owned properties are being steeply discounted. The banks don't want them on their hands, so buyers are picking them up for ridiculously low prices.

Right you are! When I used to work at Cigarette Racing Team many moons ago building power boats, one of my co-workers made his own beer. He got quite at it. He used to make what he called his version of Budweiser, it was far superior to the commercial brand. Thankfully he had a spare bedroom with mattresses so anyone who indulged too much could sleep it off. I took advantage of it more than once. Ahhh, to be young, single and carefree...

When the first photos from Hubble appeared my imagination was peaked so that my surfing the net always includes a stop at the Hubble site. Fantastic! Wish it could stay up there for years to come because the chances of sending something comparable up in the future looks pretty bleak.
