Ahmadinejad Decries NK Nuke Test

World • Views: 2,777

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad shakes a finger at North Korea, and apparently the world is supposed to believe this absurd charade.

Tehran - Iran said Monday it opposed the nuclear test conducted Monday by North Korea and called for international efforts toward global denuclearization. “Iran basically opposes nuclear weapons and favours international efforts for global denuclearization,” Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said in a press conference in Tehran.

“We recommend all countries not to waste the people’s national resources on moving toward nuclear proliferation and making weapons of mass destruction,” Ahmadinejad said.

The Iranian president also denied that Tehran had any nuclear cooperation with North Korea and said Iran’s civil and nuclear programme were solely conducted with local know-how and experts.

This is clever on Iran’s part, because there’s a certain breed of leftist (both here in the US and in Europe) who will actually swallow this line whole and take it as evidence that Iran is coming around and being reasonable.

These are the people who desperately need to spend some time reading history. Really. Not the "Oh, White European Males are responsible for all the evil that ever was" nonsense, but the real stuff. Bloody, painful, and ugly, history shows how this works out in reality.

Iran knows that whatever L'il Kim achieved, his own technies are busy working on, and he doesn't want the additional interest into his own program. He'd much rather have the world come to realize that he's got a collection of nukes after they've already been used.

He also figures that the North has been busy sharing technical data on the technological terrors both countries have been working on to the exclusion of pretty much everything else (like feeding the North Korean people, and providing a viable economy in Iran and North Korea's case).

12 Last Mohican  Mon, May 25, 2009 9:29:25am

Ahmadinejad finds so absolutely unacceptable that North Korea has nuclear weapons, he's willing to buy every last ounce of their enriched weapons-grade uranium from them. To make the world safer, you know.

Here's an example of just such a believer in 'reasonable Iran' from a comment thread this morning at Kos:

An international treaty to which a country is a signatory is effectively international law for them, no matter what the UNSC does or does not do, and the DPRK has been in clear violation of the NNPT for some time (and this has nothing to do with "additional protocols"). This has no relation to the Iranian situation, where the Iranian government has followed their responsibilities under the treaty quite carefully (for the most part; they've certainly followed it as well as we have)

Basically. Pretty much. For the most part. He's racing as quickly as possible toward developing his own nuclear weapons, and making that the primary goal of his government. But as a general concept he thinks they're icky.

Oh well, that should be good enough for Obama. No problem, nothing to see here. Back to ramping up the community organizing.

This system is the first in an new class of weapons called CFCs - Counter Fist Clenching systems. The system I announce is the MALLS - the Multiple Angry Letter Launching System.

With this system we can simultaneously engage multiple fist clenchers with highly effective Angry Letters while restoring and preserving our moral reputation in the world.

This system was recently tested after the latest American Idol competition. Co-developed with ACORN and the LGBT community, the MALLS was deployed to express dismay and anger over the mis-treatment of Adam Lambert in the finals.

American's can rest assured that we can now summon our moral indignation on two fronts - Iran and North Korea while I practice perfecting "the thoughtful pause" while using a teleprompter.

Frankly, Bush didn't do nearly enough to deter regimes from going after nukes, but that too is a verdict that can be rendered of Clinton, under whose term in office, Pakistan went nuclear, and India and Pakistan tested weapons within weeks of each other pushing to the brink.

The nuclear nations continue growing, and North Korea's weapons test threatens to bring more countries into the nuclear party to possibly deter use - including South Korea and Japan. Having the US nuclear umbrella doesn't seem to be doing the job of deterring the Iranians or North Koreans, so expanded proliferation is a distinct possibility.

The danger for Iran in the NK nuke test is that this may actually get China and Russia serious about cracking down on proliferation and stop actively preventing sanctions on NK and Iran's programs. It is in Iran's interest to make itself seem "reasonable" regarding this issue so as to separate itself from NK in the "Axis of Evil". (I'm not buying Iran's statement but too many leftists in Europe and the Obama Administration might.)

The world lacks the intestinal fortitude to stand up to countries like North Korea or Iran. Sometimes it's because they have selfish business interests (Russia and Europe) and other times it for political gain (China). The same people that call out the USA as being overly bossy and acting like a bully come running for help when the monsters they refused to confront come for them.

We are looking at the beginning of a new wave of nuclear proliferation. Japan and possibly South Korea in Asia, and the Gulf Emirates and Saudi Arabia in the middle east.....what a scary world we live in today.

South Koreans perhaps. North Korea, not so much because of generations of food deprivation, starvation, and famine.

Doubt Kim's ever gone hungry a day in his life, though, and the genes don't change...all his military guys are bigger than he is...

re: #90 SanFranciscoZionist

Why is Kim so damn short? Most Koreans I've met are pretty tall.

According to Wiki, 5 foot 2 inches is average for a North Korean male. Average for South Korean men is over 5 foot 8. Those figures say a lot about nutrition and so forth, I would say, in the north of the country.

Mother of God. Yes, that says just about everything you need to say about available food.

Still, like I said, Kim may be the one man in the country who's always gotten enough to eat.

My daddy, who was 6 foot 1 inches and an ex boxer, had been the quarterback in high school and college, and a coach, always called that "trying to make up for a size five shoe." :D

Speaking of cats and I know there are some Lizard cat lovers.......can you clue me in on some cat behavior. I am sitting at home in a gigantic house, no one else is home. The cat suddenly appears and flopped on the keyboard. I removed him, then he set up with a series of low throated vocalizations that really did sound like talk and then he flopped on my feet. Then he wandered over to a closed closet door and lay down and is trying to open it between the carpet and door, again chatting amicably. Is this deranged or normal?

Thats not saying much ,, AND ,I'm guessing that they are picked out of the upper part of the healthiest of the populace rather than from the general (starved) population

re: #91 Rexatosis

The danger for Iran in the NK nuke test is that this may actually get China and Russia serious about cracking down on proliferation and stop actively preventing sanctions on NK and Iran's programs. It is in Iran's interest to make itself seem "reasonable" regarding this issue so as to separate itself from NK in the "Axis of Evil". (I'm not buying Iran's statement but too many leftists in Europe and the Obama Administration might.)

The Russians? Maybe. The Chinese? I'll believe it when I see it.

Oh, ok, I'll make it stop raining. I'll just go hang out my flag again and it'll rain HERE, not up by the racetrack!
(honest to God that DID happen - put out flag very early this AM - turned on TV and in a little while it was pouring at the track. Shortly thereafter there was a brief let up at the track, started pouring HERE (S.E. suburb of Charlotte) so I took in the flag and rain stops - Mom comes in and says just started raining at the track again!)

Try looking him the eye and blinking. If he blinks black, blink again, then look away a lot. That will please him.

re: #109 Macker

Russia's foreign policy strategy is to entangle the US in as many snares as possible. They can then advance their interests by filling the void or acting at their periphery while the US is busy elsewhere (ie. Georgia). In that sense, Russia is very pleased with the test.

China's policy is more subtle. They want to advance their influence in the region, without provoking an outright shooting war with the US. They also want to keep North Korea in their sphere of influence. If and when NoKo collapses, it could fall to a re-united Korea under the leadership of South Korea. In that case, China would loose it's client state. Beijing would prefer a gradual reformation of the Pyonyang regime post-Kim. They want a mini-me version of China, still firmly within their grip, just not so crazy ass. For this reason, China too is happy about the test. It makes the US more compliant on a Chinese solution to the problem.

No Magic Bullet on Iran

Do secret sabotage programs offer a "magic bullet" for dealing with the Iranian nuclear threat -- raising the cost to Iran of pursuing its program, while avoiding the chaotic backlash that would follow a conventional military strike?

The answer, I'm afraid, is no. It's pretty clear these covert programs have been tried, but it's also pretty clear they haven't halted Iran's march toward mastery of the technologies necessary to produce a nuclear weapon.

We recommend all countries not to waste the people’s national resources on moving toward nuclear proliferation and making weapons of mass destruction,” Ahmadinejad said.

It's a smokescreen.PC appeasement speech to force Israel to "come clean" with it's own alleged nuclear arsenal ( even though She's not a signatuer of the NNPT), just another attempt to get world opinion away from themselves and focused on Israel (and the United States)
