I've been surprised a few times by the great photos I have taken with my cell phone. Not as good as a real camera, but still- some surprising images.

I'm reminded of a bowl of black-eyed peas, tuna and cherry tomatoes that went bad in my fridge years ago. The mold, combined with the other colors, made a really interesting photograph.

Some nice photos there.

Don't mean to be the first one to go OT so quick in this thread, but I have a decision to make, and I thought that a few bits of sounds advice from lizards could be in order.

In the next few weeks I am thinking of buying myself a new phone, and I am torn between an iphone or a Blackberry storm.

Thanks!

Here's something you don't see everyday...
Yahoo pic

British tourists, dressed as nuns, walk in the court of Iraklio in Crete May 25, 2009. Seventeen British men stood trial dressed in nun's habits on the Greek island of Crete on Monday for flashing their bottoms in public, but walked free after no one showed up to testify their behaviour was offensive.

Just checked it out, love the concept of a daily shot.
Did something similar with an iphone web app, (works only with Safari or Iphone)featuring a drawing a day a couple of weeks ago. (demo works with all browsers)
And here is another one who uses it: David Hockney paints with his Iphone
This is just the beginning, I believe that devices like the iphone have so much potential that they might fundamentally change our ways of communication, even the way art is viewed.

You need an optical mouse to get full functionality out of "auto".

Hold it against your right eye (or your left eye, if you're posting sarcasm).
KEEP YOUR EYE OPEN against the underside of the mouse, and watch the text box with your other eye as your thoughts transmit.

I am a total Mac(and Linux)head but have always had smartphones with physical QWERTY keyboards (a US-bought BlackBerry Bold currently). I tried the virtual keyboard of the iPhone and it just didn't work out for me. Others love it. My suggestion would be to go to an Apple Store or some other place where you can play with an iPhone for a few minutes of hands-on time (or pester a friend) and just try to type stuff on it. If it works for you, I would go with the iPhone. Otherwise, try the Bold.

re: #32 HAL2010

Both myself and the hubby have iPhones, his brother has a blackberry. I have coworkers with both, and friends with both. Personally, you couldn't pry our iPhones from us, even if you handed us a new blackberry. But I think Former Belgian has a good idea, go play with them at a store and then decide. But my vote is definitely for the iPhone!

Cameras don't take pictures,

Great composition will make mundane subjects interesting, like concrete supports, shopping carts, escalators...

Used correctly, a pinhole camera will do. No need to grab a Powershot or a D90.

69 Dr. Shalit  Mon, May 25, 2009 4:39:15pm

Charles -

Back in "the day" some of My Best Photos were done on a Minolta Hi-Matic 7s that belonged to my dad. The same camera Former Sen. John Glenn had under an American Distributor's name - Ansco as I recall. The Camera was a 35mm Rangefinder Camera with an "Auto Exposure Program." It was not considered to be a "Great Camera" - yet, it got shots that were.
Tells me one thing. With reasonably competent equipment, the eye, heart and soul of the photographer are more important than anything else. That is all.

-S-

Not compared to a real camera, but for a phone, it's the bomb...

I agree that everyone should carry a pocket camera. This site explains why no-one should try to make art with one.
