That really mostly looked like some idiot had been put behind the controls of Photoshop. It wasn't even remotely interesting. I mean, I can GET what Christensen was going for. From an artistic viewpoint I certainly do. As news I think it fails miserably. The sheer squallor of the more muted original I think works much better to convey the situation. But he - as far as I can tell - has stuck to processing. In the case of Walski I just don't get it. Fine. Composition. But still. The first picture works just as well. We get it.

Had an uncle go looking, under Brezhnev, for relatives believed to have been DP's during WWII. Absolutely pointless, and we told him before he left, but he went anyway. Got treated like a freakin' spy, as we had warned him he would be, and, further, he no doubt jeopardized their safety, assuming they were still alive.

Those poor people, both Cubans and the Haitians, but especially the Haitians, as we've had so many interventions to try to "help" them that have only made things even worse. It's a shame and an indictment of civilization in this hemisphere that we continue to allow such suffering.

An anti-Semite and white supremacist using the name "Whites Forward" created the Tea Party Americans Coalition (TPAC) as "a working group for serious White racialist ACTIVISTS in the US who want to effectively coordinate our efforts and intervene for effect in Tea Party-type events." Anti-Semitic, racist, and anti-immigrant themes run through the six issues on which the working group is based.
Tea Parties where a decent idea start by decent folks protesting taxing now the fucking Nazis have hijacked it.

Exactly what Killgore has been pointing out -- and being attacked for. I've seen those posts at neo-Nazi sites like Stormfront. They talk very deliberately about concealing their true purpose and appearing moderate in order to spread their racist "message" at tea parties, in hopes of recruiting people. They see the tea parties as ripe for recruitment, because (according to them) they're almost all made up of white people.

Resources for Tax Day Tea Parties!
Here are some videos that should help those of you planning Tax Day Tea Parties in your own city or town. Thanks to Young Americans for Liberty for putting these great videos together! More great information on the Tax Day Coalition here! Remember that website! haha
This is from FreedomWorks, the main national sponsor of the Tea Parties. You Will see their banners at virtually every Tea Party. Check out the first comment about the people featured in the video....
Interesting, the guy behind these websites (Jeff Frazee) appears to have once been a poster at the Spartan Spectator, if we’re interpreting the google search results properly. The Spartan Spectator and its founder, Kyle Bristow, have demonstrated links with racist neo-Nazi organizations such as the National Alliance, and is listed as a hate group by the well-respected SPLC. Bristow was dismissed from the Young Americans for Freedom due to his extremist views. Brendan, you also share a connection to Bristow. One of your co-authors of your anti-Obama book gave an interview to Bristow promoting the book, well after Bristow had hosted a holocaust-denier at an off-campus event attended by members of the National Alliance. And one of Brendan’s own articles used to be up on the racist Vanguard News Network website, but was later removed (I have the screen caps).
(To be fair to Brendan, however, I never found any indication that he put the article on VNN; it appears they simply found it on another website and reproduced it; Brendan also does not appear to have ever talked to Bristow, though Brendan did aggressively promote anti-gay author Ryan Sorba, who did speak at a Bristow sponsored event promoted on Brendan’s blog.)
The other guy behind the National Tea Party movement is Eric Odom of #dontgo fame. His website for the tea parties are being aggressively promoted on Florida-based Stormfront.org. This thread shows how many of these “white pride” activists plan on attending these tea parties:
(Link redacted) . Some of Stormfront’s most senior members are intending to use them as an opportunity to bring people over to their cause: “I think the “tea party” is a good way to meet people with potential.
Most people at this event will be white people who are fed up with the direction of things and they are ready to hear how we got into this mess.
Tell them!”(Interestingly, a photograph surfaced last year of Ron Paul (from whose campaign Frazee comes) cozying up to to Stormfront’s founder and his son. Here’s the stormfront thread with the pictures: (Link redacted) This thread is incredibly long, well over 400 pages, showing just how much support Ron Paul receives from racists around the country.)
Brendan, could provide us a clear explanation of your and Frazee’s connection (or lack thereof) to these hate groups? And how do you plan to counter the racist messages these people will be bringing to your protests?
Abolutely no response from Freedom Works or the other Tea Partiers.

Absolutely!
I see things like this and cannot help but be reminded of the power the Klan had in the first half of the 20th century. Men who wanted to get into politics and wanted to advance had no choice but to curry favor with the Klan if not join out right. Justice Hugo Black, Senator Robert Byrd and Governor George Wallace are prime examples. All of these men, too, renounced the Klan in the end--in the case of Byrd and Wallace only after the power of the Klan had been broken.
That leads me to the point--why go back and court them again? They are a marginal group--the right kook fringe. The only good which can come from this is to enure to the benefit of the left--not the GOP.

Actually it's been just the reverse here in Atlanta. One of the original organizers of Atlanta's try of their 1st tea party (back in February) was Jason Pye, a Libertarian Party activist. He was off put later (for the April one) due to the emergence of Gingrich (American Solutions) partnered with Tax Day Tea Party for the April 15th one.
Again as I stated before, I did see a couple of Ron Paul signs at that 4/15 Atlanta rally, but they were as ignored by the 20K + in attendance as the traffic lights were that day

saw the Lord of Song, Leonard Cohen live, recently. The poor guy, he had all of his money stolen, he is 74 years old and still has to work.
He put on a wonderful show and he may be 74, but he still has it. It was worth every penny I spent to see him, what a great show he put on.
If anyone here is a Cohen fan, I highly recommend seeing him.

Kevin Laue knows what would happen if a college basketball team took a chance on him and he didn't pan out. Fans would wonder what the coach was thinking in using a scholarship on a center missing his left hand.
"It's a business," the 6-foot-10 Laue said. "Their jobs are all on the line. It's much safer to take a two-handed guy my size that got beat by me."
But Manhattan College's Barry Rohrssen figures coaches take chances all the time. He'd rather take one on Laue, whose left arm ends just past the elbow. So last week, the Division I school signed the center, and Rohrssen is confident his work ethic will rub off on other players.
"We take chances on kids who have poor academic histories, who have disciplinary problems both on the court and off the court," Rohrssen said Tuesday. "We give opportunities to players who don't appreciate them, who take them for granted. For all the right reasons, Kevin deserves this chance, and he should make the most of this opportunity."

James Taranto posted a link to the new moronic convergence:
The growing harmonic convergence of apocalyptic stupidity that goes under the rubric 2012 or "the Mayan Calendar Prophecy" has not yet reached Y2K proportions. And while it's broken out of the New Agey cult status where it's been fermenting for some years, there are still many in the chattering classes who haven't heard about it. "The end of the world in 2012?" my friend Stanley said. "You mean I have to wait that long?"
The cult around the date Dec. 21, 2012—the supposed apocalyptic final day on something referred to knowingly as "The Mayan 'Long Count' Calendar"—has been the subject of fevered fantasies on the net and the free New Age "magazines" given away at health-food stores. But last week Newsweek gave it serious attention, and there's a metastasizing web of 2012 sites, including at least one anti-2012 site, which has a section devoted to debunking the apparently limitless number of gullible airheads who have become 2012 believers.

Fauxtoclone
(with apologies to Paul Simon)
When I think back on all the crap the media fed me,
It’s a wonder I still have a clue.
But the exposure of Fauxtography has freed me;
This propaganda I can now see through.
Fauxtoclone
They give us those nice thick smoke trails,
And “Green Helmet” posing entrails;
Make you think all Beirut was blown away.
They got a fauxto program,
They love to make a fauxtograph.
Oh mama, please take their Fauxtoclone away.
If you took all the phony pictures propagated,
And brought them all together in one file,
You’d have a testament to treason unabated;
You’d have a monumental lying pile.
Fauxtoclone
They give us a fake construction,
They give us a staged production;
Make you think day is night, and night is day.
They’re in the fauxto business,
Disseminating fauxtographs.
Oh mama, please take their Fauxtoclone away.
And so in all the mainstream media publications,
From Reuters wires to the New York Times,
There is a flood of fauxtographic fabrications;
There is a trail of journalistic crimes.
Fauxtoclone
They give us a mocked-up missile,
They give us clean toys in rubble;
Make your heart bleed; emotions they will sway.
They run a fauxto racket,
Distributing their fauxtographs.
Oh mama, please take their Fauxtoclone away.
If you count all the times Flat Fatima’s been homeless,
And all the times the IDF’s been framed,
And all the Pallywood productions foisted on us,
You’ll realize the MSM’s to blame.
Fauxtoclone
They give us contrived depictions,
They give us misleading captions;
Make you think good is bad, and bad’s okay.
They’re fauxto-journalistas,
Subverting truth with fauxtographs.
Oh mama, please take their Fauxtoclone away.

re: #149 Killgore Trout
Wow. Here's another facet of FreedomWorks' shady background, from the 2006 WaPo:
In 2001, Jennifer B. Chace heard an insurance broker's pitch for a new insurance company marketing tax-free medical savings accounts. She jumped at the offer, but first, the broker told her, she would have to sign an application -- already filled out -- that would entitle her to a low group rate.
With that signature, Chace, a Florida dentist in the market for health insurance, unwittingly joined one of Washington's most prominent conservative organizations, Citizens for a Sound Economy, she would later testify.
"Before I showed you this form today, did you even realize that you signed a form that was an application for membership in Citizens for a Sound Economy?" her lawyer would ask during a 2004 deposition.
"I don't know what Citizens for a Sound Economy is," she replied.
Chace's experience has brought to light an obscure arrangement between a prominent Republican businessman, J. Patrick Rooney, and a free-market interest group that has netted the grass-roots organization hundreds of thousands of dollars and thousands of new members. Citizens for a Sound Economy -- now called FreedomWorks and headed by former House majority leader Richard K. Armey (R-Tex.) -- has netted more than $638,000 and about 16,000 members through the sale of insurance policies.

"Hezbollah is secretly bolstering its power south of the Litani River, but UNIFIL's presence is making that task more difficult. Today it has more rockets and long-range ammunition than it did before the Second Lebanon War."

There were indeed some signs advocating Ron Paul and Ron Paul issues.
And a couple of speakers did make some Ron Paul-style remarks.
The crowd, of course, was well-behaved, etc.
But here's the thing - I was made aware of these attempts by these groups to get involved in these tea parties, and so I knew to be on the lookout for them and not to get taken in. But there were lots and lots of people who, really, had no idea of this undercurrent flowing through the crowd. Minor, to be sure, but it was there all the same.
And that's one of the dangers, imo, satt. That people will unwittingly get taken in. Which is why I ask you to be sure to check things out thoroughly and if you are going to get involved, at least have your eyes wide open and your wits about you.

I wonder if it was a gym in their home, and if the door was open. A 4-year old, unattended, can get into trouble so quickly. I worry for her 6 or 7 year old brother, who found her. May she rest in peace. No parent should ever have to bury a child.
My Mum zt"l lost a 16 year old brother from drowning over the July Fourth weekend, as she had just become engaged to my Dad zt"l, and they were at his parents' home in another part of MA for the weekend. My Mum could not swim, yet for the rest of her life she insisted that if she had been there, she could have saved him.
It is called 'magical thinking', and as the oldest sibling, she was very protective.
I was afraid to swim, as were all my cousins, because of it. I am an 'only'.
I cannot even imagine what the family must be going through. A 4-year old?
I agree that parents must do anything they can to make a home safe. I remember when our 4 were growing up, I needed eyes in the back of my head to keep a step ahead of them.
And may G-d comfort the parents. They have a very hard row to walk ahead of them.

Many thanks. I am going to get on this team and work VERY hard to help get him booted. He makes me want to puke.
n/p. My wife calls my donations the Black Hole. I haven't lived in Massachusetts for 11 years now but still donate to whomever runs against Kerry, Kennedy, Frank and a few other state office holders

From the videos they posted on their website I think the Atlanta Tea Party had the record for Fair Tax signs that I've seen in one place. The interviews had a lot of "end the Fed" stuff too.

As I've told you before, the Fair Tax movement was written by a Georgia legislator (John Linder) and heavily promoted by an Atlanta syndicated radio host (Neal Boortz)
NOT the Scientologists, as you've stated

Hmmm. Still no response to the question about racism on the Freedom Works site.
One hint might be that the questioner refers to the Southern Poverty Law Center as a "well-respected" organization. Which it is, in the real world, but every time I've seen SPLC mentioned on Right blogs, it's considered as Satan: "leftie," "Commie," and "hate group" being a few of the descriptors. I can only assume SPLC irritates many because it points out the unpleasant connections to white nationalism groups.

Driving through Colorado, stopped at a buffet place just outside of Peublo. Took some of what we thought were steak tips. Asked the waitress what they were marinated in as the were DELICIOUS. She stated they didn't serve steak tips. I pointed to my plate and said "these". She said "oh , thats not steak, thats rattlesnake"

Those who employ entryism are banking on people getting taken in. That's how entryism works.
Entryism.

re: #380 NY Nana
And the worst part of it is that no matter what a parent does these tragedies can and do sometimes happen for no reason and just because of some bad luck.
Life can be a real bitch.

yes, that's what I saw here, in a small way at the 4/15 event.
I suspect those things will become more and more prominent.

Entryism.
gotta look it up.
Worth posting the definition:
Entryism (or entrism or enterism) is a political tactic by which an organisation encourages members to infiltrate another organisation in an attempt to gain recruits, or take over entirely.
In situations where the organisation being "entered" is hostile to entryism, the entryists may engage in a degree of subterfuge to hide the fact that they are, in fact, an organisation in their own right. In the case of the Militant tendency, this was done by claiming that the tendency was in fact simply a newspaper, Militant, its editorial board and readers. Militant was open about its support for Trotskyism and revolutionary socialism. Other entryist groups have gone to the extent of hiding both their political views and their organisational existence.Entryism does not involve dissolving the small organisation into the larger one. Entryism is often (but not always) done secretly and often in organisations run on democratic centralist lines. Entryism is seen by some as a logical conclusion from Leninist political theory which postulates that a "revolutionary vanguard" can successfully foment a revolution within a larger capitalist society, but according to some, the strategy of entryism is as old as politics itself.

Is it absolutely intentional?
I don't think so.Is it sheer stupidity and inexperience?
No.The guy has been learned and believes in a failed doctrine, socialism, he's now applying that doctrine expecting it to turn our right this time.
Is intent is Hope and Change, of the socialist variety. He believes it's a "better" way, never mind everything he is trying has been tried before and failed, it's just never been done "right" and he is The One to do it right.
Everything that Obama has done to this point mirrors Wilson's "War Socialism." Many of Wilson's henchmen were in the next Dem administration, FDR's. Most New Deal programs, especially the National Recovery Act, were spawned by former Wilson acolytes.
They were great admirers of Benito Mussolini, at least until he invaded Ethiopia. Mussolini enjoyed the same cult following that The One gets now, from the exact same sectors of the public.

After what I saw on my maternal side? You are absolutely right. And our second son and daughter in law? My DIL was pregnant with fraternal twins, and a few weeks after going with her for a routine sonogram, where the girls were hugging each other in utero? The next one after that showed that one fetus was lacking an essential blood vessel in her umbilical cord that went to the heart. We knew that she could not survive...and just before week 25, my poor DIL went into labor. My now-9 year old granddaughter weighed 1 lb. 8 oz. Her twin died the next day. All babies are miracles, but my granddaughter? She has a number of medical problems, but is a bright, sweet little girl.
She was told at a certain age about her twin, after the kids went for counceling. About a year ago, she was staying with us for the weekend, and as I am disabled, and my granddaughter has very mild CP, she decided to stay in the car with me...all of a sudden she mentioned her twin, and was hysterical, blaming herself, and asking me what she did to cause her sister to die, and why the MD's couldn't save her. I am a retired RN, and had handled so many things, but this was just unbearable. I tried to tell her that we knew she could not survive, because of the defect, but she was inconsolable.
I honestly cannot remember what I said to her as I was cuddling her in the back seat...but she did calm down. I can only pray that she accepts the fact that she was not responsible in any way...and that she was given only a 35% chance of survival, I will never tell her. The kids do not know...I was told this by the RN on the day she was transferred to another medical center in NYC to have a problem she was born with, which is congenital, treated. My DIL also has it.
My granddaughter has not mentioned it again, but she and the kids will live with this grief for the rest of their lives. I only pray that this precious, brave child will realize that she was not responsible in any way.
That is why the big brother is in my thoughts so much. He will need therapy...he was sitting in another room, IIRC, watching TV, and went to see where his sister was. A very heavy burden to bear for all his life, when it was not one bit his fault, poor little boy.
Yes, life can be a bitch for those who have something this tragic happen....and they still have her funeral ahead of them. I just hope they will get the privacy they need so badly.

This is an old picture I scanned today of gramps in a truck in 1946 hauling anti aircraft gun parts. Great detail for a 63 year old photo.
