Hola. What a day. I like Rush, though he has moments of stupidity. His just gets blasted all over the world because - well, be is a celebrity. I'm glad I don't have that curse. I'd like the money though!
I don't want my country to fail - I DO want people to wake up and smell the naivete of this administration and get us out of it as quickly as we can. I respect his position, I find it hard to respect him much of the time, but I won't be a screaming banshee - I'll call out when I find his actions troubling (GM - that is a huge issue for me). I don't expect everyone to agree with me, and that's OK too.
I do not think it wise to be quiet about Sotomayor, though, if you find her record troubling as I do. I don't want her to fail, but I do want her bid to SCOTUS to fail - again, not because Obama picked her, but because I don't like the things she has said and done. I was equally vocal about W's asinine attempt to put good Ole Harriet Miers on the bench.

I went to the grocery store to get a salad for dinner, I've been so very good on my diet - until I saw the blueberry apple cobbler. The force was strong and somehow it ended up in my shopping bag - I ate 1/2 of it after warming it. Oh it was good, the rest will be for breakfast tomorrow. I feel like I am going to explode, though. Mobile phone / pay it forward story:
Last weekend I went to the Sprint All Star NASCAR race in Charlotte. After the race, walking back to the hotel, found a mobile phone by the side of the road. Thinking I could call the last number and reconnect the phone with the owner, I took it back to the hotel, but neither mine or my son's charger was compatible. I wound up taking it back to Houston with me, and charged it up at home. My wife found that the contacts included about 30 female names, and one listing for "Mom." She called Mom, and soon had the surprised owner on the line, amazed that someone was going to mail his phone back to him for nothing. That was a week ago.
Today I picked up the mail and found he had sent us a thank-you note and a gift card for $50.

Good evening.
The 10 year treasury yield is up to 3.76%. Just a few days ago it was 3.55% and in April was 2.70%.
The inflation many have been expecting is arriving and is destined to stay around for a while.
For those too young to remember what high inflation is like, eventually folks start buying stuff now before the price can go up further, which chases the prices up even more. Wages fall behind price increases cause no employer can provide double digit raises year after year. The purchasing power of fixed incomes is eroded, the elderly are especially impacted.
Back in the 70's and early 80's we tracked the "Misery Index", which was unemployment rate + inflation. I can see that starting again (but not by the MSM).

Getting here late as usual.
It's obvious that the million (starving) strong North Korean army is receiving heavy reinforcements from their usual allies, the western media. The objective is to force the Republic of (South) Korea and the US to essentially surrender without a fight, since if it does come to a fight, Kimmie's decrepit forces will be smashed in short order.
How to recognize Nork propaganda:
1. Discounts or ignores the RoK forces
2. Ignores the presence of US troops in the peninsula now
3. Cites the Russian S-300 missile system as an all-purpose impenetrable shield against American airpower.
4. Cites the Norks' "powerful" fleet of submarines without mentioning that most of these are basically of World War 2 design (based on Soviet "Romeo" type, a post-war derivative of Doenitz's Type XXI U-Boat.)
5. Last but certainly not least, the incessant and terrifying references to Seoul being within range of humpteen thousand Nork artillery pieces and rockets on the DMZ. Folks, it's 40 miles from the DMZ to Seoul and it is impossible that the Nork artillery could be deployed that close to the line anyway. The only weapons in the Nork arsenal that will reach that far are their tactical missiles, not their ancient tube artillery or MLRS rocket systems. They have a few hundred such missiles, which could cause a great deal of damage but not on the apocalyptic scale claimed even in the unlikely event that they are used against no other targets. Compare to the results, or lack thereof, we saw from Saddam's Scud offensive in Israel in 1991.
This is a bluff.
If it comes to war, Pyongyang's only hope will be to cause enough civilian casualties for the usual suspects in the media/NGO cabal to bring pressure for a premature cease-fire on Nork terms.

re: #61 3 wood
What are you short on?

Driving me bat-shit crazy. I cannot keep him out of the tree that leads up to one part of the roof.
Sounds like the Roi.
I have a photo of him at about age 2 - his parents are standing in their yard, smiling at the camera, and in the background, there's my hubby at age 2, at the TOP OF A LADDER and reaching toward the roof of the house.
To this day he likes nothing better than to be on a ladder or in a tree. Seriously. One day I'm going to walk outside and find him flat on the ground.

Another inflation hedge - make your own power.
If you can swing a Solar PV system to supply your electricity, do it.
I am getting ready to go off grid entirely.
Cap and Trade will amp your electricity bill big time regardless of where you live and what your power co burns to keep your lights on.
Another suggestion for anyone in the midwest / east coast - get a geo-thermal heat pump. Sounds exotic but it is simple - a heat pump that doesn't exchange heat/cold with the air but the earth instead. Makes your heating/cooling all electric and requires much less energy since you only have to heat/cool relative to the temperature of the Earth.
Realize that these systems will go up in price along with everything else. If you buy now you "lock in" a lower price per btu for heating/cooling well into the future when the dollar cost will have tripled or quadrupled.

And Bernanke was gruffly saying he was personally going to keep rates really low for a long time.
Ha.
I think 4% is about as low as the 10 year should be, and we'd have to push the 30 year back above 5%, even 6%. And he should let the 90-day money go back to 3%++ also.
If (and when) the 10 yeare goes above six percent, that will be a sign of the inflationary apocalypse approaching.

Ah Charles. The musical majesty of that piece from Bruce is beautiful! Maybe I'm just in a blues mood, but his chord changes, minor emphasis, his willingness to resolve with minor keys included is beyond words. Thank you. And here I thought I had reached my personal apex with listening to Dylan's new release. BTW, Dylan's new album (Together Through Life) ROCKS! It's very bluesy. And I love blues.

Geothermal works only in a few places where hot rocks are close to the surface. Even then, getting "clean" steam (without lots of dirt and crust) is very rare.

Well, you know they were only allowed to keep owls that could not be released into the wild. IIRC, they had a pair, and when one died the other pined away. I do not think they were replaced. But I could be really, really wrong.
I don't know if there's any space left on campus for the cowbirds any longer ... but I will have to go up to campus next fall. I have a junior I'm trying to sell them!

Something like "Little Man's No training wheels here" but using Little Man's name (of course)
"No Training Wheels Here"
I like it! We usually put the Kennel name where the dog was whelped first. Like: "Green Acre's No Training Wheels Here" Actually, our breeder requires it --that way it's easier to follow the lineage in the pedigrees and trial results. Most of the time the kennel name is shortened to fit. If you don't show your dogs, it probably doesn't make a difference.
