Dead Man Won’t Stop Talking

Yet another “Osama bin Laden” audiotape appears, ranting about Barack Obama.

Why doesn’t anyone ever ask: if this is really bin Laden, why doesn’t he ever appear on video like every other Al Qaeda freakazoid?

A new audio tape from Osama bin Laden criticizes President Barack Obama for planting seeds of “hatred and vengeance toward Americans” and warns of “new long wars.”

The tape, aired on Arabic news network al Jazeera Wednesday, blasts the U.S. president for his role in Pakistan’s military operation against Taliban forces in the Swat Valley. The message came as Mr. Obama touched down in Saudi Arabia on the first leg of a Mideast trip to shore up diplomatic relations in the region.

U.S. intelligence officials confirmed the authenticity of tape but said “there’s no reason at this point to believe that any specific or credible threat is contained” in the message, reports CBS News White House correspondent Peter Maer.

“There has never been a fake bin Laden tape,” a U.S. counterterrorism official told CBS News. “In the past, he has timed the release of the messages to major events. So it’s unsurprising that he chose this particular week.”

Bin Laden accuses Mr. Obama of ordering Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari to "prevent the people of Swat from implementing the Shari’a law by fighting and killing them through bombings and destruction. This has led one million Muslims, elderly people, women and children, to flee their homes and villages and live in tents after they’d been living with dignity in their homes.

Funny, I thought they were leaving Swat to get away from the Taliban's Sharia!

38 poteen  Wed, Jun 3, 2009 10:01:20am

From CBS article;
I say the free men who carried out the attacks of 9/11 did not taste the bitterness of being thrown out of their homes and their land made to live in tents and beg for food. Those 19 only heard that such suffering has been inflicted upon their brethren in Palestine, through American weapons and Zionist hands. They thus left their schools and universities and seized the first opportunity to support the oppressed over there [and] to punish the oppressors in America. So imagine what would they have done if they had witnessed such agony and distress themselves?"

Presumably the technology exists to voice-match the current tapes to the old recordings of Bin Laden (assuming there are some that can be taken as genuine). For its own purposes, the government may be giving disinformation about the authenticity.

I don't know whether reliable voice-recognition technology is available to the public. If it is, you'd think that the MSM would have used it.

All the CIA can do is make assessments of likelihood. Theses are never zero; there is always some small chance that you don't have all the information. Now, consider you're in charge of assessing whether Binny is still alive or not. If you come out in favor of him being alive, and you turn out to be wrong, you're praised for being cautious. If you come down on the other side - he's dead - and he suddenly pops out from behind a rock somewhere, you are totally screwed six ways from Sunday. It's a situation where the penalties for being wrong are extremely lopsided, and people understandably err on the more comfortable side.

Until someone walks in, like Peachy Carnehan, and drops Binny's mummified head on your desk, you're going to give much more support to any information even faintly suggesting he's alive than you are to the otherwise overwhelming evidence that he's a stain on a rock somewhere in Tora Bora.

There are clues in any video. This means that the calculation al Qaeda must make before releasing a video is complicated. True, you get more propaganda bang with video than with just audio. On the other hand, you may be telling the U.S. more than you meant to tell.

Perhaps they have made a strategic decision to not release OBL video. The mere fact that he doesn't appear on video cannot be taken as proof that he is dead.

If he still lives, his precautions have kept him alive, but they've also halfway muzzled him. All audio bark and no video bite, if he's alive he's not making much hay, and the sun never shines on him.

History records any number of stories of warlords defeated and hounded off the map; they're as good as dead when things get to that point.

See above; it isn't fiction or non-fiction, it's simply the way assessments of such things work. There's no downside to writing up an assessment that supports Binny being alive even if it turns out to be wrong; writing one up that claims he's dead that turns out to be wrong is a career-ender. See above; it isn't fiction or non-fiction, it's simply the way assessments of such things work. There's no downside to writing up an assessment that supports Binny being alive even if it turns out to be wrong; writing one up that claims he's dead that turns out to be wrong is a career-ender. See "erring on the side of caution."

EXCLUSIVE: Al Qaeda eyes bio attack from Mexico

A U.S. counterterrorism official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said al-Nafisi is a "person of interest" and a veteran recruiter for al Qaeda. Misidentified on some blog sites as a professor, he is a Kuwaiti dissident and al Qaeda associate who is thought to have communicated with senior al Qaeda leaders in recent years, the counterterrorism official said. The recruiter is also said to have close ties to Mullah Mohammed Omar, the senior Afghan Taliban leader now thought to be in Pakistan.
...
n the 10-minute clip, al-Nafisi suggested that al Qaeda might want to make common cause with what he claimed are "300,000" members of white supremacist and other militias in the U.S.

"These militias even think about bombing nuclear plants within the U.S.," he said. "May God grant them success, even though we are not white, or even close to it, right? They have plans to bomb the nuclear plant at Lake Michigan. This plant is very important. ... May God grant success to one of these militia leaders, who is thinking about bombing this plant. I believe that we should devote part of our prayers to him."

Are these times, and the circumstances we find ourselves in, really so different from Dietrich Bonhoeffer's day?

While non-violent, political opposition to evil is always the default position for Christians, the lesson of Bonhoeffer seems to be that there are times when the heart and soul of a government becomes hardened against the prophetic outcry of God's people. At such a time, far more may be required of us. Is this such a time? How far should we be willing to go to stop the killing of the innocents?

Not all the Nazis at Stormfront object....

Many Muslims come from the very ethnic background as the rest of us. For example Bosnian Muslims are as white in appearance and culture as us. I think perhaps we should be more open to them where they share the same values, regardless of religion. White unity is important, not division over religion. We are in a fight for our very survival and can use all the help we can get.

NO I am not advocating cooperation with terrorists. I am just advocating keeping an open mind to regard to religion.

Which nuclear plant? There's several candidates by the Lake, and near the Lake (within 50 miles). Does he mean Cook (Bridgman, MI), Zion (Deactivated, Zion, IL), Braidwood (Braidwood, IL), Dresden (Channahon, IL), Kewaunee (Kewaunee, WI), Point Beach (Manitowoc, WI), or Palisades (Covert Twp, MI).

There's been chatter in jihadi forums for months on how to use Obama's election and race, I think this is just more variation on that. They were talking about how to use the internet to make racial tension higher.

re: #148 doppelganglander
Well the only real problem with this as a theory is that white supremacists are not likely to affiliate with or work with or do anything other than shoot Arabs, Al-Q or otherwise.
Not to mention the fact that "biological agents" tend to either dissipate rapidly or spread rapidly and you can never really be sure you're getting those whom you've targeted - could EASILY get your own people instead.
I'll give it a 24-48 hour rule, but think the liklihood of the White Surpemacists allying with Al-Q is about nil HERE. In Europe, maybe, but not here. The hatred here is based on different reasons entirely.

203 subsailor68  Wed, Jun 3, 2009 10:46:21am

So the white supremacists are mulling over the idea of teaming up with radical muslims? I have an idea. Let's encourage that. Once they've teamed up, we then sneak a message to each side, telling them that the other group is getting ready to turn on them.

There seems to be enough support over at Stormfront that it makes the strategy possible, maybe even likely. It looks like we're back to the 80's with the anti-government militias. The only difference now is they're aligning with Islamists, which makes them potentially more dangerous. Since the GOP is embracing it's loony liberertarian wing means if something happens and gets connected to a pundit like Glenn Beck or something like the Tea Party movement (which still hasn't denounced involvement from Stormfront) the political damage would be huge. Possibly even permanent.

I truly hate to recommed any sort of drug therapy, but you might ask your doctor about Ambien 12.5 CR (available by prescription only) I use it because it a)turns my mind OFF and b) is extended release, so I get about 6 hours or so of real sleep. Course, half an hour after I wake up the mind is racing again but......!
Seriously though, Ambien 12.5 CR is non-narcotic and does work quite, quite well.

With the One's comments lately, I'm beginning to think there's more to the O's affinity with islam than meets the eye. Now he's visiting Saudi Arabia, "Where islam began..."

And his "America is one of the largest muslim nations..."

Curious how his middle name was off limits during his campaign. Now he refers to himself as BHO, and brings up his muslim roots as though it's now significant.

If the Bush Administration knew Osama was dead, they would have announced it. It would have been hailed as a victory and rightly so. And it would have helped the Republicans immensely in the 2008 election.

I think the CIA just doesn't know. There is no logical reason for the US Government to hide it. However if he is dead, the benefit of keeping his death secret is of great value to Al-Qaeda.

I don't think we'll know with certainty for a long, long time.

226 ihateronpaul  Wed, Jun 3, 2009 11:26:14am

re: #11 Kosh's Shadow

Either dead or so wounded he's uglier than a goat.

But it shows how backward Al Qaeda is. If they had the latest Hollywood technology, they could show him dancing around and shooting Americans with his AK-47, even if he's long since rotted away at the bottom of a cave.

Just can't get the lighting right.

Actually, Obama didn't use the word "is" -- Obama is quoted as saying, "we'd be one of the largest Muslim countries in the world.." etc. Nonetheless, I have the impression that Obama has a real problem with numbers (as if he's somehow "number blind"...(?))

There's no upside to the government's messing with the fiction. If we presented conclusive evidence that UBL had indeed bin laden the dust of Tora Bora, or some other hellhole as I believe, that would just provide another excuse for the Islamocrazies to raise hell.
