OT:Dangerous flea treatments for pets PLEASE READ! (Koskidz)
I became worried when their food bowls were still full when I got home from work yesterday so I consulted "The Google" and to my horror found several sites dedicated to stopping Hartz and other corporations from selling these products. These pyrethroid containing products have killed or harmed thousands of animals even after being forced to stop selling a different version of the products in 2006. There appears to be a pattern of the EPA approving these products then pulling them a few years later after complaints from consumers.
Here is a heartwrenching video of two cats that had adverse reactions, one survived but still has trouble walking, the other sadly, died.
Since money has been tight I've been buy the Hartz stuff instead of Advantage. I just threw it all away, I'll buy the Advantage stuff next week. Very sad story.

Photographed with a Canon Powershot G10
Charles, I'm drooling over the new Canon PowerShot SX200 IS
Comparison with the G10:
Optical Zoom
SX200: 12x
G10: 5x
HD high-quality videos:
SX200: Yes
G10: No
Wide-Angle Lens
SX2000: Yes
G10: Yes
megapixels
SX2000: 12.1
G10:14.7
Size
SX200: smaller
G10: larger
ISO
SX200: 3200
G10: 1600
Price:
SX200: $349
G10: $499
...etc.
Looks like the SX2000 is the best Canon Powershot ever made! And cheap, too!
Aside from a slightly lower megapixels level (which means nothing to me), it has the G10 beat in every category.

There was a story on this on TV recently. The list on the EPA site included ALL the brands of flea and tick stuff I had heard of. The stories, however, indicated more problems with older dogs. Tick-borne diseases can be pretty nasty, so we're kind of stuck. However, we tend to go a little over a month between applications, and currently use Frontline. (Had used Advantix occasionally depending on what the vet had.)
So far, no problems. The biggest problems are due to what the dogs eat in the yard.

Thanks for reminding me to check the Paulian forums. This story seems like a bit hit with them today...
Was Tiller's Murder a Staged, State-Sponsored Terror Attack?
There's a good chance that this shooting was done by an agent provocateur, in an attempt to advance the pro-abortion and anti-gun movement.
* No evidence has been presented that Roeder did the shooting.
* Roeder was 170 miles away when arrested.
* The police are continually telling us that Roeder is linked to militant anti-abortion groups, but at the same time tell us he acted alone, before the investigation has even started.
* Roeder has never been a member, volunteer or contributor to Operation Rescue.
* Roeder posted some comments on the Operation Rescue forum that are peaceful in nature.
* Roeder has no history of violence. Criminologists can tell you that it is very rare for non-violent people to suddenly become violent after the age of 50.
* Roeder opposed abortion, which is his right to believe.
* Roeder was pro-life, which contradicts the notion that he would kill someone.
* Roeder is being called a "lone nut", just like Lee Harvey Oswald and many other scapegoats of history.
We saw the first signs of conspiracy theories on the LGF thread this morning. Looks like it will take hold. Enjoy your July 4th Ron Paul rally.

Norwegian Connection Update [part 1 of 2]
I’ve noticed a minor development in the story of Mahmoud Mashharawi.
As many will recall, Mahmoud Mashharawi was a boy, somewhere between 10 and 12 years old, who died on January 4, 2009, in Shifa Hospital in Gaza. CNN and BBC’s Channel 4 both broadcast stories about his death, featuring poignant video of the Shifa hospital staff’s attempts to save his life, video that was purportedly shot by Mahmoud’s own older brother Ashraf Mashharawi, a Palestinian filmmaker who happened to be working on another film project in the area on the day of his brother’s death. Both CNN and Channel 4 reported Palestinian claims that the boy and his cousin had been deliberately targeted by a drone-launched Israeli missile. Although they didn’t present any evidence of this, Channel 4 reported it as unchallenged fact, saying “Israel, equipped with the most technologically advanced guided missiles and video target selection that America can supply, had selected, targeted, and killed two more children in Gaza.” CNN, however, was evenhanded enough to report this only as a claim, and to add that “The Israel Defense Forces says it does not target civilians and that it is unaware of the incident in this report.”
The stories aired by CNN and Channel 4 contained footage of an obviously faked resuscitation scene at the hospital, in which medical personnel pretended to be trying to save the boy with chest compressions, without actually trying to do so. Additionally, it later surfaced that the doctor supervising the care of Mahmoud Mashharawi, Norwegian anti-Israel activist Mads Gilbert, was strongly affiliated with Vennskap Tromsø-Gaza (“Friendship Tromsø-Gaza), a Norwegian anti-Israel group from Gilbert’s home town of Tromsø that, at the time of the incident, had contracted with filmmaker Ashraf Mashharawi to produce an anti-Israel film which was to be shown in Norway.
On February 10, 2009, the Norwegian national TV station NRK, which dedicates much of its journalistic resources to producing anti-Israel propaganda, released part one of a video documentary about the event, which contained some new video that had been shot inside the hospital (though it conveniently edited out the obviously faked “chest compressions” scene).
Now for the new developments: at some point since I last checked, NRK posted a version of part 1 of the documentary, with English subtitles. You can see it here.
They also released “part two” of the documentary, which presents the results of laboratory studies that they commissioned, to attempt to prove that the boy’s death was the result of a deliberate Israeli attack on two little boys. You can see it, with English subtitles, here.

Norwegian Connection Update [Part 2 of 2]
The new English subtitles in part one of the NRK documentary don’t reveal much that’s new about the hospital scenes, but they do reveal a few things. First of all, when I posted about the Norwegian-only version of Part One in February, I noted that some of the initial hospital scenes were clearly filmed by Dr. Mads Gilbert himself, not by Ashraf Mashharawi. At one point, he literally stabilizes the boy’s airway with one hand, while holding a video camera with the other. The subtitles now make clear that NRK admitted all along that Gilbert, not Ashraf Mashharawi, was doing the initial videotaping: “Mads Gilbert also films Mahmoud coming in.” (06:41) This is contrary to what CNN and Channel 4 originally implied.
There are two later hospital scenes that Gilbert actually appears in, so he couldn’t have filmed them. In one, Gilbert and his chest-compression-faking colleague, a big man in a white coat, play out a stiff, awkwardly overacted scene in which Gilbert appears to pronounce the boy dead. He disconnects the ventilator tubing, places his hand on the dead boy’s forehead, hangs his head dramatically for a while, and then calls for the boy’s father. The audio is cut off, but the subtitles now make it clear that Gilbert also said “the brother is here too” (02:05). They then explain that “his big brother Ashraf Mashharawi is waiting outside and will soon be told” (02:07). So Ashraf Mashharawi didn’t film this scene either. The fact that Gilbert referred to “the brother” rather than using Ashraf’s name suggests that it was someone other than a member of Ashraf’s film crew who filmed it.
The other hospital scene with Gilbert’s face in it is the deleted one with the faked chest compressions. I now realize that, as the patient is no longer connected to the ventilator in that scene, and he has a new blanket over his midsection and legs that wasn’t present in the “pronouncement of death” scene, the faked CPR scene was probably filmed after the “pronouncement of death” scene. In other words, after the medical staff had decided to stop trying to save Mahmoud, and after they had then played out the dramatic “pronouncement of death” scene with the boy’s dead body as a prop, they then decided as an afterthought to go back and stage a fake CPR scene.

Koko Taylor, the Grammy Award-winning "Queen of the Blues," died Wednesday afternoon at Northwestern Memorial Hospital of complications from surgery, according to Marc Lipkin of Alligator Records. She was 80.
Taylor, born Coral Walton on a sharecropper's farm outside Memphis, came to Chicago in 1952 and worked as a house cleaner. She began to sit in with blues bands and in the early 1960s signed a contract with Chess Records after being approached by Willie Dixon. In 1965 she recorded her signature song, "Wang Dang Doodle."

Well lookie here.
Sotomayor made nearly identical “wise Latina” comment in 1994, too
“Justice O’Connor has often been cited as saying that “a wise old man and a wise old woman reach the same conclusion in dueling cases. I am not so sure Justice O’Connor is the author of that line since Professor Resnik attributes the line to Supreme Court Justice Coyle. I am not so sure that I agree with the statement. First, if Prof. Martha Minnow is correct, there can never be a universal definition of ‘wise.’ Second, I would hope that a wise woman with the richness of her experience would, more often than not, reach a better conclusion.”
Almost verbatim.
So I guess she "misspoke" twice then, eh Gibbsy?

On the plus side, it might be a "teachable moment" for The One. If he were to realize that, no matter how hard he tries to bend over backwards, there are some people who will hate us and wish to destroy us simply because we exist. And that said people include Him in the "us" they wish to exterminate.
Of course, this could also cause severe cognitive dissonance in The One- which he would probably "cure" by declaring even more loudly that Everything Is Our Fault.

You have to believe that security will be very tight. Obama could get a shoe thrown at him ala Bush, but I doubt it.
Actually, I expect a love fest & no threats at all to Obama.

Agreed. CBS News was just talking about The One using his "Star Power" to woo the entire Muslim world. The guy was almost swooning.

Here are some pics. Small but more than I would have guessed.
We showed up after it had started. I never saw the people in costume--too far into the center of the square, and it was too crowded by then. I remember the pitchfork with the tea bags.
I'm not going to zoom in on all 500 pictures, but I didn't see the two small Ron Paul signs I saw. (One was just leaning up against a wall.) I took a picture of one, then my camera died.
I think there were more people as the event wore on.

BBIAB, maybe. I am going to increase my carbon footprint for the day by purchasing factory-farmed extra-cruelty fossil-fuel prepared chicken, which I shall devour with the aid of tree-killing paper napkins and oil-wasting plastic cutlery. Perhaps I will imbibe a fat-taxable carbonated high-sugar no-food-value beverage as well. While the face on the sign outside the non-green facility will be an elderly male Caucasian, the employess shall be members of various downtrodden and exploited minority groups, up to and including Rotarians and UFOlogists. I imagine there may even be PAULIANS working there. I do not think Nazis eat chicken, however.

Since money has been tight I've been buy the Hartz stuff instead of Advantage. I just threw it all away, I'll buy the Advantage stuff next week. Very sad story.
We tried the Hartz brand once.
All the animals went immediately berserk.
The dog acted like the doggie Hartz was burning him.
The cats ended up losing their hair at the cat Hartz application site.
We immediately washed it off of them, and have used nothing but Advantage or Frontline since.
