Obama Doesn’t Bow to King Abdullah
Please note! Barack Obama is absolutely not bowing to King Abdullah! He’s receiving a medal.
That is not a bow. It’s very, very different from a bow.
Thank you for listening.

How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries! Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog, there is this fearful fatalistic apathy. The effects are apparent in many countries. Improvident habits, slovenly systems of agriculture, sluggish methods of commerce, and insecurity of property exist wherever the followers of the Prophet rule or live. A degraded sensualism deprives this life of its grace and refinement; the next of its dignity and sanctity. The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property - either as a child, a wife, or a concubine - must delay the final extinction of slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men.
Individual Moslems may show splendid qualities. Thousands become the brave and loyal soldiers of the Queen; all know how to die; but the influence of the religion paralyses the social development of those who follow it. No stronger retrograde force exists in the world. Far from being moribund, Mohammedanism is a militant and proselytizing faith. It has already spread throughout Central Africa, raising fearless warriors at every step; and were it not that Christianity is sheltered in the strong arms of science - the science against which it had vainly struggled - the civilisation of modern Europe might fall, as fell the civilisation of ancient Rome.
Winston Churchill, “The River War”
Just for a little context.

For all you Atlanta Brave Fans :
ATLANTA (AP) - The Braves acquired All-Star center fielder Nate McLouth from the Pittsburgh Pirates for three minor leaguers on Wednesday, a move to beef up Atlanta’s offense in hopes of contending in the NL East.
The 27-year-old McLouth was an All-Star last season and set career highs with a .276 average, 26 homers and 94 RBIs. The Braves desperately needed more offense from an outfield that produced only 10 homers through the first 51 games.

Just an aside.
Back just before the 84 Olympics, I did some work on huge high end house in OC. The owner was supposedly a “Saudi prince” building a place to entertain his friends during the Olympics. The security alarm contractor, an acquaintance of mine, who is Jewish, identified him as then prince Abdullah. Said he was an “OK guy”.
He met him. I didn’t and neither of us can remember seeing flowing robes on anyone who showed up at the site. And nobody bowed.

The real point of this post, in case it needs to be spelled out, is that EVERY American president bows to King Abdullah.
They have us by the gas pumps.
Ranting and raving about Obama this, Obama that, completely misses the point.
And they still depend on us for protection. it’s a mutual dependency. We should just take a few hints from the mafia and charge more.

It looks like the handshake is between equals. Pres Obama is just trying to be polite here and make the medal easier to put on. I would probably do the same thing. I certainly wouldn’t be impolite. But what is the medal for?
There was an older video where I thought I saw him bow. Pres Obama is a newbie to foreign relations and protocol. He can be taken advantage of. Hopefully he doesn’t get blindsided here at Cairo like Rome did.

Very logical of you… but … you’re asking too much of the populace, and even some of the lizards, aren’t you?
I’m being somewhat serious.
How many times have we seen total failure at reading comprehension? How many times have we seen commenters whose writings are, to put it generously, composed primarily of non-sequiturs?
I have never liked IQ tests, and feel that references to “IQ”, “intelligence” and so on are given to inflate the writer’s estimation of himself… but I do accept that some people are just plain dense. They really don’t think clearly, perhaps they can’t think clearly.
I could visit any of a number of blogs which are posting today about Obama’s trip, his statement about Muslims in America, and sundry other topics and pull out mind-numbing examples, one after the other.
Would it do any good? I doubt it. I really, really don’t know whether it is a moral failing on the part of some, or if it is truly an issue with comprehending complex issues.
Agree with your statement… it is going to be a long summer.

Bowing or not, I dont really care. Because Obama represents to me the grand finale of the complete stupification of America. When the electorate voted not for the best person for the job, but against a person who wasnt even running. George Bush.
Obama represents to me the beginning of the end the America that I love. Like a big paddle smoothing down all the peaks and valleys of this countries greatness.
An angry cousin told me, “You aint voting for him because he’s black. I know you Republicans. I know how ya’ll are.”
I said, “That he’s black doesnt bother me a bit, there are plenty of well qualified black people who would make fine presidents. I’m not voting him because he’s green. And because he is a ultra liberal idiot.”
No matter your religion or political affiliations, if your key focus is LIBERTY for all, we can find common ground.
My liberty, our liberty, is the last concern on Obamas mind.

And I would have told that filthy degenerate exactly what I was about to do.
That’s one of those “sounds on good paper” ideas, also known as cutting off your nose to spite your face. We have to maintain at least a veneer of civility so we can have enough petrol to attend all our 4th of July picnics, get to work, transport goods, mow our lawns, harvest our corn, keep the economy moving, get the kids to school, stuff like that. Sad, but true.
The bowing is bad enough when they do it, but the kissing and hugging really adds to the gag factor for me. Thankfully, we may be at least spared that much this time around. Alas, the day is young.
209 | CTUCandyVendor Wed, Jun 3, 2009 7:01:06pm |
The POTUS should not accept medals from other world leaders. Just like the bowing, it conveys a role of lesser stature on the receiver IMHO. Am I the only one who feels this way?
On the bowing issue, it’s wrong even if Bush and every other president before him did it. Maybe he didn’t bow this time because there was quite a stir about it last time he did it? So even if it was considered hypocritical of some attackers, maybe the fervor over it was a good thing if it put an end to the dhimmi bow?
It’s one thing to make the correction that Bush did it too, but the tone seems to convey “Bush did it too, so you should all shut up about it and give Obama a break.” (assuming it is even an active topic anymore that conservatives need to be saved from embarrassing themselves on). If anything, rather then making the point about Bush to squash all the criticism of O (which is what this regurgitated topic feels like), the point should be Obama carries on a bad tradition which needs to end now. It is definitely not apparent that the REAL meaning of the post is how we are all subordinate.

There are a few reasons we bow to the Saudis. Grinding the US economy to a halt directly isn’t one of them. But -
1. Saudi occupies the Hijaz, currently; and the Hijaz is where Mecca and Medina are. So whenever we do something that gets Saudi robes in a twist, that gets spun as “disrespect for Islam”.
2. Saudi is in a strategic location. It’s got the Red Sea (read: Suez) on the west. It’s got the Persian Gulf (read: Mesopotamia’s outlet) on the east. So losing Saudi to our enemies blocks off a lot of the world’s commerce. It would suck for our troops in Iraq too; how to supply them if the Gulf is down?
3. The Near East serves Mitteleuropa. Saudi can’t kill our economy; but, arguably, they can kill Germany’s. That might cause a knock-on effect on the rest of the world.
As for the “reckoning of fire” comment, that’s crazy talk, and shame on the original poster for descending to that.
But we should plan for a worst-case scenario, and that would affect the points 1-3 made above. The US, assuming competent leadership, has enough resilience that the worst-case wouldn’t destroy us. We’d have some leeway to weather the storm until we got an energy policy and good enough defence capabilities to manage the outcome.

Bow or no bow, Obama is bowing to the whole Arab world, pressuring the Israelis on settlements because the Arabs claim to need YET ANOTHER Israeli gesture (giving back the Temple Mount, the Sinai Peninsula, and the Gaza Strip not good enough). The Saudis want a return to the 1967 borders and Israel to allow back so-called “Palestinian” “refugees.” (No mention of why no Jews are allowed in “Palestinian” areas, that’s just understood, right?)
It’s all well and good that Obama has made some cosmetic improvements since his election, but he’s driving full force to “solve” the problem of Middle East peace, and for the Arabs that means “solve the problem of Israel.”

No disagreement. Just pointing out that mid-east oil affects CA prices minimally. It WOULD be a big problem for us and economic suicide for them to stop exports. They won’t.

Darn, late to the thread.
Bush’s medal receipt was a proper, formal bow.
Obama just bobs his head to receive the medal, reaching for it with his hands at first. Very disrespectful when compared to Bush.
Obama is not showing proper obeisance to the King according to the Bush precedent.

Yes, it would be if they stopped ALL imports. If they just stopped selling to us, we probably wouldn’t even notice, we would just make it up elsewhere. However, if they stopped selling ALL they produce to other countries because they can’t get it out of the Gulf for some reason, or they decide to do another embargo, then the world-wide shortage would definitely jack up prices for everybody. A shortage in a world market affects the pool from which everyone imports as far as supply and demand, if that makes sense. That would be a disaster. Sky high prices and gas lines at stations just like during the 70’s. It isn’t the oil they send us. It’s the oil they send all of us. And that’s why we are so concerned about maintaining that particular flow of oil thru the Mideast.

No Jews are allowed inside Saudi Arabia. No one should shake the hand of the anti-Semitic Arab who rules that country.

Doesn’t the O get briefed on foreign customs when he travels? Didn’t anyone tell Michelle that it isn’t proper to embrace the Queen? All new Presidents need briefings when they travel abroad. Does he ignore them or flaunt them?

Drive by post:
King Abdullajh must have grown since the last time they met. Now they can suddenly shake hands without Obama bowing…

Thankfully, we may be at least spared that much this time around. Alas, the day is young.
Funny how the media didn’t take a thousand pictures of the kiss….

But that necklace deserves its own fashion crimes tribunal!
I’ve got some Saudi jewelry that almost makes that look sedate.
Seriously, they have some godawful tacky stuff.

The King must have grown. Obama bowed last time because the King was so short.

Flavor Flav wouldnt wear a chain that big. I think they were trying to make Chicagoland Jesus look stupid. At least Obama apoligized for all of the sins of the west. Mission accomplished!

Yup, no bow here. … but last time, he took a dive. Had he bowed any farther he would have had to drop to a knee.

Begging your pardon, Charles, it’s not a medal, or a chain, it’s:
The King Abdul Aziz Collar
Leash and obedience training to come.

Um, okay assuming you are being straight and not sarcastic, seriously, Charles, WTF?
You’re right, bending your head to recieve a medal is not a bow. But that’s not what you said back when when you claimed Bush had bowed. The contradiction literally couldn’t be clearer.
So first time, Obama bowed. This time, Obama will make sure there is no cameras around when he bows (assuming he doesn’t give the full lewinsky).
Its not the biggest deal in the world, but let’s stop falling all over ourselves to make excuses for this guy. Yes, yes, even though i don’t like him, he is my president and deserves a chance to succeed. But not slavish sychophancy.
And bluntly, i think you owe us an apology on the subject. don’t be like dan rather, who when confronted with clear evidence of being wrong, just dug in.

In Muslim tradition, men do not wear gold, only cologne. So what the King is saying to the Muslim World is: I have a new whore.

I hope you’re not holding your breath for that. The outrage from the right wing over Obama’s “bowgate” was idiotic, and achieved nothing except to make all the people yelling and screaming about it look like fools.
