Moronic Convergence of the Week: Creationism and the John Birch Society

Moonbats • Views: 26,129

The theocratic, anti-civil-rights, paleoconservative, conspiracy-mongering John Birch Society got together with the anti-science, conspiracy-mongering, young earth creationist writer James Perloff yesterday in West Roxbury, Massachusetts, for a good old-fashioned evening of atavism: Darwin refuted and disputed at John Birch Society meeting.

After years of well-deserved marginalization, the John Birch Society is making a comeback, thanks to the promotional efforts of our good friends Glenn Beck, Ron Paul, and Judge Andrew Napolitano.

WEST ROXBURY - Members of the John Birch Society believe in protecting the U.S. Constitution from what they consider to be wavering while maintaining its integrity.

“Less government, more responsibility, and with God’s help, a better world” is the motto of the society that hosted author James Perloff at the West Roxbury Branch Library on Saturday afternoon. The gathering was in response to a recent celebration of Charles Darwin and his theory of evolution in order to see the opposite side of the spectrum, which is creationism — a banned teaching in public school systems nationwide.

Perloff, who lives in Burlington, was brought in to elaborate on his findings against Darwin’s theory of evolution. He has written two books on the subject: “Tornado in a Junkyard” and “The Case against Darwin.”

The event was held in front of a small gathering and was kicked off with a prayer along with the Pledge of Allegiance led by Harold Shurtleff of West Roxbury, regional field director for the John Birch Society.

Perloff delivered his three-part PowerPoint rebuttal of Darwin’s theory of evolution in order to “underscore what people don’t know” and explain how many people have been persuaded to believe Darwin’s theory as fact while casting off creationism totally.

Perloff tried to draw parallels throughout history, attempting to connect individuals such as Andrew Carnegie, Karl Marx, Josef Stalin and Adolph Hitler with the teachings and rationales of Charles Darwin. He also told of his own life’s inner conflict, saying he was briefly turned into an atheist at a young age due to Darwin’s theory.

Perloff went on to say, “Survival of the fittest does not explain arrival of the fittest,” and that, “[the theory of] evolution is just speculation on the past and should not been seen as scientific fact.”

In the crowd was Birch Society member John Coveney of Weymouth, who said, “It was a great presentation. I’ve read his books and find [Perloff] informative.”

Coveney, talking about teaching creationism versus the theory of evolution in public schools, said, “Teach both evolution and creationism. Let them make up their own minds. It’s a free country, after all.”

Perloff is listed on the John Birch Society website as well; as a member of their “Speaker’s Bureau,” he’s well prepared to instruct your church or youth group about the dangers of the nefarious New World Order: James Perloff.

In The Shadows of Power, Mr. Perloff discusses the conspiracy that, directing U.S. foreign policy from behind the scenes, seeks to create a one-world government. This lecture embraces events as diverse as the Pearl Harbor cover-up, the founding of the Federal Reserve, the disastrous war in Vietnam, and the scheme to turn North America into a European-style union.

The John Birch Society is making a comeback, of course, after years of well-deserved marginalization, thanks to the promotional efforts of our good friends Glenn Beck, Ron Paul, and Judge Andrew Napolitano.

Anyone who promotes the Birchers should spend eternity shining the shoes of W.F. Buckley and B. Goldwater.

Still more conspiracy theories. When they start mixing them up with a little bit of history here and there, it just gets boring right away. I prefer "The Da Vinci Code" at the very least a good mix of historical facts with conspiracy theories.

Perloff tried to draw parallels throughout history, attempting to connect individuals such as Andrew Carnegie, Karl Marx, Josef Stalin and Adolph Hitler with the teachings and rationales of Charles Darwin.

And, of course, none of these men have anything to do with the theory of evolution. If there is any other theory that can be compared to evolution, it is capitalist economic theories.

@ Mich
How does a one world government turn us all into slaves? Are we slaves for being federalized under the United States government. It's simply an issue of scale.

@ DD
Who said anything about the UN. You guys misunderstand what the UN is. It's not a world government, it was never supposed to be, it doesn't try to be. It's a platform for discussion, which is really all they do anyway, as your criticism of the UN already indicates. A world government would be much more like the United States federal system. It would necessarily have to be.

In a thread about conspiracy theories, I just have to post about this:
I bought a book a year or so ago, titled "Dr. Mary's Monkey".

Blurb on front cover:

How the unsolved murder of a doctor, a secret laboratory in New Orleans and cancer-causing monkey viruses are linked to Lee Harvey Oswald, the JFK assasination and emerging global epidemics.

On the back cover:

Did inoculating millions of trusting schoolchildren with polio vaccines contaminated by monkey viruses trigger an epidemic of soft-tissue cancers?

Was a desperate effort to develop an anti-cancer vaccine diverted secretly into biological weapons?

Is there a link between these covert experiments and AIDS?

And do the answers to these vexing questions connect to the intrigues swirling around the assassination of President Kennedy?

So,there you go folks. Most of the favorite conspiracies all wrapped up in one nice, neat package for you.

If the United States could take over large tracts of land, incorporate them into itself, and create a functioning federal government with 50 separate states, and still have the largest economy in the world, the strongest military, free and fair elections every 4 years on the dot with peaceful transitions between parties, what makes you so scared of expansion? Would you have likewise said "no way!" to Hawaii and Alaska? What about The Louisiana Purchase? I'm not advocating American imperialism (although we've done it before with good results) but what if it happened naturally. I think you are just afraid of change.

The trend of history has always been this way, and if the EU and free trade agreements and the connectivity of the internet is any indicator, borders are becoming less and less meaningful. As the differences between us become more minimized, through further exposure to each other and a mass culture, we're going to stop seeing each other as separate countries and nationalities. We already do this to an extent when we say "the West" (which actually includes more than just the west, think Australia.) American culture already permeates so much of the world. People all over the world know all the American icons, much of the rest of the world speaks very good english, we all use the internet which is mostly english, we keep trying to eliminate barriers to trade, trading and communication across the globe gets cheaper and faster all the time.

As someone who teaches history, I hate the Birchers. Ok, at some level, I agree with their basic premise of limited government etc. etc., but it's not like they corner the market on those concepts. They aren't a political movement, they are a utopianist cult.

I hate when people, in this case the crazy Birchers, feel they have to distort US history into some perfect, idyllic, pure past for it to be of value. I mentioned this before, but watch one of their videos some time. If you have even a passing knowledge of US history, you will see right away that they do not value America and our history, but an America that never was. A history that lacks any scars, missteps, faults, or struggles (and a curious lack of non white people- as if white Americans sprung from the ground here into a complete wilderness).

It's silly, ignorant, and infuriating simply because it ignores what makes us great...our struggle to live up to our values.

To them, the Framers weren't just great living breathing men, but infallible Gods who bequeathed a perfect nation into our hands that was unchanged until (insert favorite US villain here) came along and ruined it. Somehow I think many of the Framers would be horrified at the vision these Birchers have for their nation.

*spit.

No surprise they are teaming up with other such ignorant and reactionary groups.

1. A one world government could tend to disrupt a natural balance of power. Balance of power is the key to personal liberty. Concentrating all the power in one place attracts the worst of people, people who promote oligarchy.

2. There is a constitution for a world government drawn up for the U.N.. It's been around for sometime. I have a copy.

English became the lingua franca pretty much by default. Two hundred years or so ago, the language of diplomacy and commerce was French -- the Russian language has a lot of French cognates because the language of choice at the Russian royal court was French. Before that, it was Latin -- IIRC, that is still the common language of the Catholic Church. Before that, it was Greek.

There were also a lot of people trying to push Esperanto, an artificial language, a few years ago. Harry Harrison made it the common language in his Stainless Steel Rat stories.

English is the common language of commerce, the Internet, aviation and many other fields because the US, in spite of the Obama Administration's efforts, is still the 800-lb. gorilla.

There are a lot of English cognates in the Russian language, too. The Soviet government was convinced it was a Pentagon plot.

Four lawyers in a law firm lived and died for their Saturday morning round of golf. It was their favorite moment of the week. Then one of the lawyers was transferred to an office in another city. It wasn't quite the same without him.

A new woman lawyer joined their law firm. One day she overheard the remaining three talking about their golf round in the break room. Curious, she spoke up, "You know, I used to play on my golf team in college and I was pretty good. Would you mind if I joined you next week"?

The three lawyers looked at each other. They were hesitant. Not one of them wanted to say 'yes', but she had them on the spot. Finally one man said it would be okay, but they would be starting pretty early at 6:30 am.

He figured the early Tee-Time would discourage her immediately. The woman said this might be a problem and asked if she could possibly be up to 15 minutes late. They rolled their eyes but said this would be okay.

She smiled and said, "Good, then I'll be there either at 6:30 or 6:45." She showed up right at 6:30 and wound up beating all three of them with an eye-opening 2-under par round. She was a fun and pleasant person the entire round. The guys were impressed!

Back in the clubhouse they congratulated her and happily invited her back the next week. She smiled and said "Sure, I'll be here at 6:30 or 6:45".

The next week she again showed up at 6:30 Saturday morning. Only this time, she played left-handed. The three lawyers were incredulous as she still managed to beat them with an even par round despite playing with her off-hand. By now the guys were totally amazed, but wondered if she was just trying to make them look bad by beating them left-handed. They couldn't figure her out. She was again very pleasant and didn't seem to be showing them up, but each man began to harbor a burning desire to beat her!

In the third week they all had their game faces on. But this week she was 15 minutes late! This had the guys irritable because each was determined to play the best round of golf of his life to beat her.. As they waited for her, they figured her late arrival was some petty gamesmanship on her part. Finally she showed up.

This week the lady lawyer played right-handed, which was a good thing since she narrowly beat all three of them. However, she was so gracious and so complimentary of their strong play; it was hard to keep a grudge against her. This woman was a riddle no one could figure out!

Back in the clubhouse she had all three guys shaking their heads at her ability. They had a couple of beers after their round which helped the conversation loosen up. Finally one of the men could contain his curiosity no longer. He asked her point blank, "How do you decide if you're going to golf right-handed or left-handed"?

The lady blushed and grinned. She said, "That's easy. When my dad taught me to play golf, I learned I was ambidextrous. I have always had fun switching back and forth".

Then when I met my husband in college and got married, I discovered he always sleeps in the nude. From then on I developed a silly habit. Right before I left in the morning for golf practice, I would pull the covers off him. If his "you-know-what" was pointing to the right, I golfed right-handed and if it was pointed to the left, I golfed left-handed.

Astonished at this bizarre information, one of the guys shot back, "But what if it's pointed straight up in the air"?

She said, "Then I'm fifteen minutes late".

The Birchers have come full circle in the gold chat rooms I have read. They are angry at the government, thinking it the root of all evil. They feel betrayed by the PTB (powers that be) who have usurped our rights, our lands, our guns, our morality, etc. etc. They idealize the founding fathers and have respect only for farmers and people who produce things. Utopian is a good word for it. They want to leave America before it becomes a "fascist state", although they think it is already upon us. They think we will all be chipped with the number of the Beast. They hate the Jews who own all the money and pull the strings of the New World Order (along with the supragovernmental international elite. It is among the most illogical, daffy, mean-spirited, divisive, rage-filled group of people you never want to meet. They do not believe there are real terrorists except for the aforementioned. They sit around discussing availability of ammunition and race wars. You can be talking to someone who seems pretty normal and all of a sudden they are quoting Pat Robertson. It is deeply disturbing and not uncommon.

OT, but get the popcorn ready, lots of it! Watch the fur fly between The One and the Billaries! This has to cause big trouble, very well deserved, in the Demonrat party!

Obama on Clinton: A 'Loose Cannon' Who Tells 'Bald-Faced Lies'

It's not exactly a man-bites-dog story when someone accuses Bill Clinton of stretching the truth, but when it's a president of his own party, and when what he calls Clinton is "bald-faced" liar, and when that president happens to employ Clinton's wife as the Secretary of State, well, yes, that's kind of newsworthy.
That's one of the juicier morsels in Renegade: The Making of a President," a new campaign book by Richard Wolffe, who covered the 2008 presidential race for Newsweek. Wolffe also quotes Barack Obama as referring during the campaign to former President Clinton as "a loose cannon."
These quotations are sourced directly to Obama himself, and come out of interviews the author did with "the candidate," as Wolffe calls him in a conscious emulation of Kennedy campaign biographer Theodore White. That Obama cooperated with Wolffe is obvious; in fact, it appears that the idea for the book may originally have been Obama's. Revealingly, the tension in Wolffe's narrative is elevated when he's writing about the nomination fight between Obama and Hillary Clinton more than when he chronicles the runoff between Obama and John McCain. This is as it should be. Not only was the Obama-Clinton contest closer than the Obama-McCain duel, it was longer, more bitter, more interesting, and more historic.[...]

See it all, and enjoy!

Perloff went on to say, “Survival of the fittest does not explain arrival of the fittest,”

That has to be the most moronic statement anyone's made this year -- and he's had plenty of competition. All one has to do is sit down and think for about seven seconds to grasp that the life-forms which survived this generation are the ones arriving in the next generation.

That has to be the most moronic statement anyone's made this year -- and he's had plenty of competition. All one has to do is sit down and think for about seven seconds to grasp that the life-forms which survived this generation are the ones arriving in the next generation.

Is Perloff a brain-damaged cretin -- or is he simply being dishonest, and lying for "the cause"?

At this stage, I no longer care. I suspect he (and people like him) are simply cretinous, but either way we need to keep their hands off our children's minds.

I vote that he's a brain-damaged cretin. And that's with apologies to ordinary cretins out there. I've long since discarded this notion that these maniacs are just "lying to make money." They're the real deal.

re: #173 Abu Lahab

Your photo essay link reminds me of an interesting little-known side-note into the history of "zombie":

I first got interested in taking "candid" photos of people just being themselves during an independent trip to China. This was before the era of digital cameras. I had a regular film camera, and developed a technique of wearing it around my neck like a typical tourist, but nonchalantly resting my forearm across the top of it, and pressing the shutter at interesting seeming moments. The key is that I wasn't looking through the viewfinder -- I just "aimed" by turning my body the right way and hoping I got something good. The results were so excellent that I was hooked.

The reason your photos reminded me was that I took a whole series of shots of a girl soldier in the People Army, doing some outrageous and very effective flirting with some boy soldiers on a beach -- they all were about 18 years old, and in uniform. (It was in a militarily sensitive area, so soldiers were guarding the coastline.)

Even though I was hooked on the whole candid photojournalism thing, doing it with film was very expensive, because 80%+ of the photos were wasted -- they were pointing in the wrong direction. And unlike with digital, you had to pay to get it developed, just to see that it wasn't even worth developing!

When digital cameras came out, it changed everything: Photos were suddenly FREE! And a new career was born.

Tribalism at its most basic, really.

"Everything would be great if it wasn't for those (Blacks/Jews/Queers/Bolsheviks/Liberals/Abortionis ts/Catholics/Muslims/pick any term or combo)! Let's legally oppress them now, and then totally kill them when we get the chance later!"

Tribalism of that kind is one of the tools used to justify the call to "return our nation to it's former glory" rhetoric.

Look at the dude who gave birth to fascism, using the Roman fasces as inspiration for the word fascism. All about Italy returning to the heyday of the Roman Empire.

Scratch a person spouting "Golden Age" rhetoric, and you will find a fascist lying underneath.

One of the few times I was confronted by Islamo-thugs (from the MSA), I did the old switcheroo. They tried to wrestle my camera away from me, but I wrestled it back, and during a distraction in the commotion, I popped out the memory card and popped in the (empty) spare memory card I had in the camera pouch. When they tried to grab it away from me a second time, I managed to press the shutter and get one random photo -- so that when I finally let go on purpose, they saw that one photo, assumed there was a card full of them, and then deleted it, thinking they were deleting all my photos. But I still had them all on the original card!

(Of course, they succeeded in silencing me in other ways [fear], but at least I managed to outwit them, even though I never published the pictures.)

They're unique all right. When the barbed wire comes down I bet the place will be a feast for psychologists studying abnormalities that totalitarian states create.

Cult psychology, Stockholm Syndrome, agoraphobia, etc. I'm sure much more.

I was just about to post those links (at comment 140)))
This one of the few people who managed to travel inside North Korea (with a special guide that monitored him) and he made some amazing photos, also by claiming he deleted the photos, but then keeping them.
The last photo on this thread made him quite famous. The guide did not understand that his T-shirt says (Hysteria of USSR) (mocking them of course).
It's an amazing account of North Korea inside, and from what I know no one else ever managed to do such travel again.

That's a good image. His expression is priceless with that sideways glance.

The entire UN couldn't take over Taylor Michigan. They would be outgunned.

To paraphrase Abe Lincoln, the combined armies and police forces of Eurabia couldn't fight their way from Padre Island to the Houston suburbs in a hundred years even if civilians were the only opposition.

Yes, exactly, I read that they ask you to be serious when you enter that museum (of their previous dictator), you have to buy flowers and to bow in respect for his body. So he tried to look serious and touched, while his T-shirt said everything he had in mind)

There is just so much irony there..pot calling the kettle, etc. Remember the false smiles whenever they were in public, and the glares that were caught on camera when they let down their guard?

I have a really big carton of microwave popcorn, and hope to see this as a TV movie, coming to TV just in time for the next Senatorial elections! ;)

And to see a Demonrat write it? All the more delightful.

/Please feel free to suggest the ones who are best suited to play the major characters in said TV production...

Reminds me of Madame LaFarge, sitting knitting at the guillotine...

On that pleasant note? G'nite,Lizards, sweet dreams!

If we're really lucky -- which I doubt -- there's also Sir Percy Blakeney, pretending to be Madame LaFarge....

And by the way, talking about North Korea, the most closed country on earth, here is a photo reportage from a Russian photographer who took these photos from the Chinese-Korean borders. That's the closest one can get to North Korea by feet (on a boat)
I thought I would share it with you
It feels like the USSR in the 50s probably.

Upding for the awesome link!

Here's my translation of the Russian captions:

Одну из самых ... на реке Ялуцзян.

One of the countries most closed-off to foreigners, North Korea can be photographed by various methods. You can do it at a model kindergarten at a presentation for Chinese tourists. You can take excellent snapshots under the hawk-like eye of a local kaggebéshnik, as it worked out for the Dutch photographer Tomas Van Houtryve. However, to take pictures of North Koreans in their normal living conditions, without fear of censorship, can be done only on a boat-trip along the China-Korea border, on the Yalu-Tzian River.

("kaggebéshnik" = KGB agent)

P.S. Бросаться ... "по ту сторону".

P.S. Throwing stones at boats passing on the river is a favorite pastime of (male) Koreans "on that side."

Incidentally, in the fifth picture from the bottom, you can see a surly NK dude displaying the "fig" gesture -- the equivalent of the middle finger in some countries.

LOL at the photographer's closing comment -- he remarks, as a funny bit of language trivia, that the very very very rude Russian word for "penis" (хуй, pronounced approximately like "HOO-ee") sounds a lot like the word/noise/vocalization that Koreans use for saying "here, chick-chick-chick..." when throwing cracked corn to chickens and ducks and geese and whatnot.

So he'd be walking down the lane in a Korean village and hear people apparently yelling "Cock! Dick! Prick!" as they fed the chickens.

re: #122 ShanghaiEd

Would this happen to be "Our Global Neighborhood," as referenced by the World Net Daily?

No, this is from the Center for the Study of Democratic Institutions under the title A Constitution for the World (1965). That's pre-internet, pre-personal computer, pre- "World Net Daily", which I have never read.

A quick google search shows nothing about its text, although some of the links that discuss the writing are hilariously retarded.

You think, with ads for books by Napolitano, The FLUORIDE DECEPTION, How artificial sugar is going to kill us all. Blah blah blah. Yeah, I get the feeling that's the kind of people who really get scared of the UN coming to take away their sovereignty. You'd have to ignore reality to believe that's going to happen. Like the fact that the UN has no muscle without the US.

Ohhh, here's another link mentioning the book. It's a religious guy's site. And it's littered with quotes from Revelations. This inspires confidence!

There shouldn't necessarily be anything to fear about a one-world government. I think I would make a very good governor.

You guys - jeez - I am looking at a hardcover book which I have owned since 1971. It is titled The Great Ideas Today and has the year 1971 on it's spine. It is part of the Britannica Great Books program. The "editors in chief" are Robert M. Hutchins and Mortimer J. Adler. On page 333 begins the "Preliminary Draft of a World Constitution."

On page 72 of this same book is a chapter entitled, "The Prospects for a World Government" by Joseph S. Clark. On page 346 is a chapter entitled "The Problem of World Government".

I have said nothing about what I believe about what is going to happen. I'm just saying that there have been and probably are serious discussions of World Government by people other than conspiracy theorists, even people associated with the U.N.

You don't need to set up straw men to talk to. Just talk to the person who has actually posted. Read my posts. I am not a conspiracy theorist. I have no agenda.
