Reposted from the thread below:
So, the world takes notice of Obama's Cairo speech, and what is it that they've determined to be *the* issue that is supposed to untie the Gordian knot?
Stopping Israeli settlements.
That's the one thing that Obama pointed out beyond all others in the speech. And Israeli leftists like Yossi Beilin play into this nonsense by saying that there's world consensus on the matter. If you polled the Muslim world, you'd find consensus on seeing Israel wiped off the map.
Consensus doesn't mean that it's right - let alone just.
Settlements as Beilin should know are not the obstacle that the US and everyone makes it out to be. If they get Israel to stop building new communities, what exactly is gained? Nothing. The terrorists still lick their chops. Iran still seethes and seeks nukes, and Obama gets what precisely from all this capital expended on a peace process that lacks a partner from the Palestinians - let alone the Arab world because the leaders wont step out from the shadows to make peace with Israel. There isn't another Sadat among them, precisely because of what happened to Sadat - and they aren't going to chance it.
Instead, they continue their old ways, agitating the Islamists to look elsewhere - outwards towards Israel and the US instead of seeking to overthrow the sclerotic regimes that make up the vast majority of the Middle East and most of the Islamic world.

Unfortunately, as far as smaller cars go, GM could start with the blueprints for the last Trabant or Yugo and still come out ahead of the crap they've been offering for the last umpteen years.
Raise your hand if you or anyone you know has ever willingly driven the GM version of a Honda Civic?

but wait...American's want those kinds of cars! The Oneness said so!
We are on our 3rd Chevy truck. 2 2500s, the one we have now is 3500. All diesel, all 4x4. The first had close to 285,000 miles on it when we sold it. Nothing wrong except the dashboard was possessed and the lights would flicker on and off. No one could find out why. The second was a 2004, it had about 75,000 miles on it when we bought the 2007. We only did that because the 2500 was struggling a hair with our 4 horse trailer. You can't feel it behind the 3500, and it's a big trailer - 4 horse with 10' living quarters. Methinks the Pelosi XJ6 ii ss/rt/rs is NOT going to be pulling the 4 horse.

This is what all small cars should aspire to become. Yes, I know it won't survive a head on collision but this car is maneuverable enough to dodge all possible accidents including any pedestrians. No stereo and open to the weather, who cares it looks fun to drive standing still!

I love the smaller Citroën's in France. Had one as a rental car once, seemed to handle fine on the large motorways, great on gas, and I suspect if I had an accident, I would have save a lot of money on long term hospital care.

Claire is dead, or did you miss that? And if you saw the finale, you got the explanation as to why certain people who were dead have been seen. Jacob's nemesis (the guy in the black shirt) has been using the dead as a simulacrum. That's why Jack has seen his father, Kate her horse and others.
Oh, and John Locke is really dead, that was the nemesis.

I'm totally for freedom of choice. God bless you and your four-legged friends.
Americans have made their choices clear for decades. When it comes to choosing smaller cars, which many do want, they choose the Civic and other bestsellers designed in Japan and built right here in America. Not the Cobalt or other second- and third-rate crap made as an afterthought by GM etc.
I myself have a nice old Lincoln. Gets really shitty gas mileage, especially in the city, but it's paid for, I can't even contemplate a new or new-used car right now, and it's the most comfortable damn thing next to bed (and with better sound).
If I were car-shopping tomorrow, though, I'd be very tempted by a Civic like the one the deacon of our church leases new every three years.
Personally I think GM and the rest should have been allowed to die, along with AIG and the other big bastards.
On a side note, there's a trial going on in my town right now of bankers and mortgage brokers who deliberately "reverse redlined" areas of the city to target prime minority borrowers with perfect credit for sub-prime loans - costing them more in balloon payments and adjustable interest rates, sometimes ending in default - because the folks at Merrill Lynch etc. could sell the resulting collateralized loan obligations and related derivatives as higher-risk, higher-profit "product" to the hedge funds. Kickbacks every which way from Sunday.
Some of these creeps are actually going to jail. I hope.

1974 Detroit is back again!
sharmuta -
For what it is worth, in 1974 I worked for Ford Motor Company. That was the year of the seatbelt interlock - rescinded for the 1975 model year. Could have made a fortune stealing and selling "Canadian Bypass Boxes" as Canada did not mandate the interlock. I did NOT do it then. NOT so sure I wouldn't do it now. I have become older and more cynical about "Nanny Mandates" - Just as I did in 1993 and worked for the election of Christie Whitman against Jim Florio. For those Non-Residents of NJ - Christie Whitman was a breath of Fresh Air after "the Jim" and 7% sales tax which HE refused to ask for OR justify. I was still a bottom line leftist at the time, though I did vote for Bush 41's re-Election on historical grounds (LIKE THE USSR CEASED TO EXIST ON HIS WATCH!). When we got to the issue of "Runny Eggs" - Thank You Jeannie Fox-DiMicco - I was NOT prepared to vote for "Nanny" in that election, and as things have worked out, EVER AGAIN.

Ok, now I understand. Well, I don't know why they would be confused. Claire is dead. And on the show, dead people have been seen again, and at the end of the season 5 (last month) we were given the answer to why. A unnamed character we were introduced to in the season finale apparently has the ability to take on the shape and personality of dead people.
So, it would not be strange that Claire could be seen again.

Interesting genesis to this. Iowahawk wrote that out as a parody piece, and Officer Vic of KSFO made the audio for the morning show a few months ago. He really should have asked permission first, but Iowahawk decided to add the video to Vic's audio and, voila.
First time I heard it driving in to work I laughed so hard I nearly drove off the road. I was driving through Berkeley at the time, so I might have taken out several Priuses.

The Mad Max series did set the bar high for post-apocolyptia. I don't see Pelosis and Smart Carts surviving for very long against that host of characters. You can't even pretend to be a total badass in leather and hockey pads driving around in a Smart Car.

Yes, the Island can exist in different times (and space), and even when it is in the "current" timeline, it is a bit out of phase with everything around it. That's why it can't be "found." It takes certain knowledge of coordinates and certain time circumstances to find the Island.

ArchangelMichael -
I will take it a STEP further than that. SATURN has apparently been sold to Roger Penske. Roger Penske has succeeded at every project he has ever tried, except ONE. That project WAS being a Multi-Make GM Dealer in New York City. He took over the old Potamkin Franchises. He tried to run them as he did nationwide, everything UP FRONT. He Failed at that. The New York Buyer wanted the lowest Cash Contract Price. Potamkin was aware of that.
Potamkin adjusted to his environment and SCREWED his customers ROYALLY on stuff like Pin Striping, Door Edge Guards, Undercoating and the like. Penske NEVER got that program - and left the NYC Market, tail between legs. For Penske, thankfully the rest of the USA is NOT NYC.
