Scott Roeder Threatens More Violence

US News • Views: 1,818

Scott Roeder, under arrest for the murder of Dr. George Tiller, has told the Associated Press that there are “similar events planned around the country.”

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — The man charged with murdering a high-profile abortion doctor claimed from his jail cell Sunday that similar violence was planned around the nation for as long as the procedure remained legal, a threat that comes days after a federal investigation launched into his possible accomplices.

A Justice Department spokesman said the threat was being taken seriously and additional protection had been ordered for abortion clinics last week. But a leader of the anti-abortion movement derided the accused shooter as “a fruit and a lunatic.”

Scott Roeder called The Associated Press from the Sedgwick County jail, where he’s being held on charges of first-degree murder and aggravated assault in the shooting of Dr. George Tiller one week ago.

“I know there are many other similar events planned around the country as long as abortion remains legal,” Roeder said. He would not elaborate.

But but he's innocent, don't you know, Tiller was killed by liberal assassins in a black flag operation to stir up hatred against Christians so Obama the Muslim can begin confiscating Bibles and health supplements, even though Tiller deserved it and, MY BRAIN IS MELTING!

This grieves the heart of God and for any "Christian" to say otherwise is contrary to the teachings of Christianity. Scott Roeder is a murderer plain and simple and until he genuinely repents, Scripture is very clear on where he will end up.

What an insufferable prick. Of course he won't elaborate. He's a martyr for the cause now, and hopes he's sufficiently enthused the rest of the anti-abortion fringe. He couldn't be a better victim for the cause if he was some jihadi kickin' it in Gitmo right now.

re: #29 theheat

Naturally Roeder won't elaborate. Tiller's murder is intended as a terroristic act; it is intended to terrorise other abortion providers and frighten women away from clinics. Let's not forget that Tiller was one of only a handful of providers in this country skilled enough to perform late-term abortions. We're about three assassinations away from effectively ending late-term abortion in this country.

I don't think Roeder is likely to have specific information about other planned attacks, but I also don't doubt there will be an upswing in violence against abortion clinics and providers, just as there was in the 90's under the Clinton administration. It's no coincidence that Tiller was first shot in 93.

Hey there Nevergiveup - got a minute or two before dinner and wondered if you'd read all the stuff on the DT today about Obama and the Dem's Chrysler screw up in bankruptcy court - if Justice Ginsburg (or more likely SCOTUS in full) doesn't do anything, everyone who holds BONDS of any kind will be holding pretty nearly worthless paper. Won't be able to sell it for much, since the Bankruptcy Court basically said to hell with contract laws that gave Bond holders a Prior Security Lien position (in return for a lower interest rate) Bond Holders don't have any sort of prior security lien with regards to the Goverment. That's cause the government spent TARP money to prop up the UAW Chrysler, instead of using it as it was intended to be used, to loosen credit by banks, so now forget about hundreds of years of bankruptcy law and contract law, if the government gets it's hooks into an industry, bondholders can be left with NOTHING. Should really help businesses get the cash they need to say, expand and hire more people, right?

re: #15 Cato the Elder

Sounds like a ticking time bomb to me. A case for waterboarding?

I ask in all seriousness.

Interestingly, I ran across this post earlier that asks how and whether we might extend the paradigm for the treatment of foreign terrorists to domestic terrorists. I don't know who this guy is, but it's an interesting read:

If bombings of abortion clinics and murders of abortion providers are acts of terrorism, should we treat the problem of terrorism that they present the way we treat the problem of terrorism from Al Qaeda and other groups? (snip) In particular, consider the following questions:

(1) Should the United States be able to hold Roeder without trial in order to prevent him from returning to society to kill more abortion providers? If we believe that Roeder and other domestic terrorists will plan further attacks on abortion providers and abortion clinics if we let them free, can we subject them to indefinite detention?

(2) The Obama Administration is currently considering a national security court to make decisions about the detention of suspected terrorists, with the power to order continued preventive detention. Should this court be able to hear cases involving U.S. citizens, whether they are Muslim or Christian?

(3) The U.S. government has argued that at least some terrorists should not be tried through the criminal process with its various Bill of Rights protections but instead can and should be tried through military commissions, where the standards of proof and various procedural protections are lowered. If Roeder is a domestic terrorist, can the U.S. government subject him to trial by a military commission instead of a criminal prosecution? Although the current version of the 2006 Military Commission Act does not bestow jurisdiction to try citizens, could we or should we amend it to include citizens who we believe are likely to commit or have committed terrorist acts?

There's much more.

This may be some good news....

Lebanon's pro-Western majority declares victory

BEIRUT (AP) -- Lebanon's pro-Western coalition declared victory early Monday, as local television stations reported the faction had successfully fended off a serious challenge by the Shiite militant group Hezbollah and its allies to grab the majority in parliament.

Official results for Sunday's election were not expected until later Monday, but the winners were already celebrating by shooting in the air, setting off fireworks and driving around in honking motorcades.

The election was an early test of President Barack Obama's efforts to forge Middle East peace. A win by Hezbollah would have boosted the influence of its backers Iran and Syria and risked pushing one of the region's most volatile nations into international isolation and possibly into more conflict with Israel.

"I present this victory to Lebanon," Prime Minister Fuad Saniora said on television after stations projected his pro-Western coalition was winning. "It is an exceptional day for democracy in Lebanon."

OTV, the television station of one of Hezbollah's key Christian allies, former army chief Michel Aoun, conceded that the party's candidates who challenged pro-Western competitors in several Christian districts had been defeated, preventing a victory for the Hezbollah coalition. But Aoun was able to hang on to his representation in other districts.

Notice the reference to Obama. Is AP suggesting that Obama had something to do with the results?

Sure wish we had a Federal Law to cover that situation. Send out a nice message to the other loons out there too.

We do. Roeder can't get the death penalty under KS law--he doesn't meet the capital murder statute-- BUT the feds launched a probe on friday, so he *may* still be eligible for the death penalty under that:

The U.S. Department of Justice confirms the death penalty is still a possibility in relation to the murder of Dr. George Tiller.

On Friday afternoon, a DOJ press release announced a federal investigation into the Wichita abortion provider's death. The release stated investigators will look into possible violations of the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act or FACE Act. The FACE Act was passed in 1994 amid rising violence at reproductive health clinics and is designed to protect abortion providers and patients.
(snip)
With the new federal investigation, the death penalty would be a possibility. The FACE Act makes injuring a person who is obtaining or providing reproductive health services a federal crime.

If convicted of breaking this federal law, life in prison is also a possible sentence. However, a DOJ spokesperson tells Eyewitness News if the crime is a premeditated act involving a gun, federal statute 18 U.S.C. 924(j) makes the death penalty a possibility.

[Link: www.kwch.com...]

So it's still possible. Not sure how likely it is.

Merkel party wins German vote; rival embarrassed

BERLIN (AP) -- Germans handed a lackluster victory to Chancellor Angela Merkel's conservatives and a historically heavy defeat to their center-left rivals in Sunday's European Parliament vote, months before a national election.

The outcome, a center-right majority, was enough to boost Merkel's hopes of ending the tense left-right "grand coalition" that has led the European Union's most populous nation since 2005 and replacing it with a center-right government.

It also showed that Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier - her center-left challenger - faces a steep uphill struggle to oust the popular Merkel in the Sept. 27 national election.

Later.....

Merkel's conservatives were expected to lose ground Sunday compared with 2004, but the Social Democrats expected at least some gains.

"This is a disappointing election result - there's no talking around it," Steinmeier told ARD.

I had to answer "no", I could not do it.

It's a struggle worthy issue, no doubt. OTOH, if someone murdered my child, could I vote for the death penalty? In a heartbeat.

Um, well to begin with, have y'all ever heard of the Crusades? The commandments are more for lip service for most folks than to be followed, I'm afraid.

Let's beat this canard with the straw man you just posted, shall we? The Crusades were a defensive action to retake the Christian Holy Places occupied by Muslims since 100 years after Mo's death. Muslims were harassing Christians and preventing them from completing Pilgrimages. Warfare was necessary to allow free access for Christians and Jews. The Crusades were initially successful. Ultimately, Sal-ad-din managed to unify enough Muslim factions to throw the Crusaders out. Jerusalem remained under Muslim control until Israeli forces occupied it in 1967.
IN SHORT, the Muslims started it, Christians responded, and the Jews got it back.
Now, as far as acting righteously: Islam offers Christians three choices; convert to Islam, live as a second-class citizen (dimmi), or die. I'm not going to turn the other cheek to a scimitar, I'm going to blow him away with a .45, or other. (Charles, hypothetical here, not advocating violence)

In the too good to be true category.....

In Iran, disparate, powerful forces ally against Ahmadinejad

Reporting from Tehran -- Powerful reformists and conservatives within Iran's elite have joined forces to wage an unprecedented behind-the-scenes campaign to unseat President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, worried that he is driving the country to the brink of collapse with populist economic policies and a confrontational stance toward the West.

The prominent figures have put their considerable efforts behind the candidacy of reformist Mir-Hossein Mousavi, who they believe has the best chance of defeating the hard-line Ahmadinejad in the presidential election Friday and charting a new course for the country.

and later.....

Those involved in the effort say they have already outmaneuvered Ahmadinejad and his allies, including supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and gained the upper hand within Iranian institutions and among voters. Most analysts say that Khamenei, who has publicly stressed that he has only one vote in the election, is quietly supporting Ahmadinejad, though he is also concerned with public sentiment and trying to appear above the competition.

Several pro-Ahmadinejad lawmakers have discounted the effort against him, citing internal poll numbers they say show that the president will easily be reelected despite the powerful front arrayed against him.

In addition to protecting their own considerable financial and political interests, which include control of key segments of foreign trade, private education and agriculture, Ahmadinejad's behind-the-scenes opponents fear that a win by the incumbent will further isolate Iran internationally, weaken the middle class and give more power to the military and the Revolutionary Guard.

"We can't run Iran like North Korea," said Saeed Laylaz, a newspaper editor and analyst with contacts among the political elite. "A group of militarists cannot stuff this civilization into a can and put it away. Iran cannot make up for its lack of economic might with nuclear technology, missiles and proxy threats in Lebanon and Palestine and elsewhere."

Nadal has really gotten into Rogers head though!

I hope that it's not true re: Rafas knee because for the next several years we'll be treated to great Grand Slam finals

Roger got back into Rafa's head, though, by beating him in the finals of the Madrid clauy court tournament just prior to the French.

I wonder if thinking about that loss could have been partially responsible for Rafa's seeming lack of focus in his losing match with Soderling...

I have not seen much nastiness as first lady. She is now the most popular one in recent history, even decent numbers with Republicans unlike the POTUS. Whatever stuff laid on her during the campaign has been overcome by most of the public. I just don't get the lingering dislike.
It's not worth fighting about though, she's just a mother and wife, but I was trying to understand the posts.

no you weren't. i already explained this to you earlier. wab has a very disagreeable angry edge to her personality. she is still an ethnic/racial grievance monger. full of bitterness at america. honed in the hate church by rev. wrong for over 20 yrs.
as a mother how could she lovingly baptize her children in that "church"?
just recently when she was discussing the nomination of sotomayor,
she played the grievance card by comparing the nominee's struggle to her own.
that is pure b.s. both of these women had all the opportunities in the world given to them by the country they now malign.

I remember screaming at him whie he was taking his jog back on defense..Hey Joe! Try running sometime tonight!

I used to call him "Joe Barely Cares."

He shares that capacity with Roger Federer, another competitor who can tweak his game plan mid-match.

My personal favorite was Kenny Roberts, the motorcycle racer. Man had the ability to visualize and analyze a race track, then go out and implement the line, apex, braking, etc. changes he had figured out, and go faster. After soaking off a body cast for a couple of fractured vertebrae.

Abortion is the epitome of Darwinism.

Nope. Enforcing Darwininism would entail that all pregnancies be forced to be bourne to term, so that environmental selection could operate on them. Eugenics would mandate that abortion and selective breeding be dictated by the 'intelligent design' of whoever's in power. In that sience, China's one-child policy with abortions mandated for subsequent pregnancies is not eugenics, because it is a blanket requirement, with no choices being made, as far as the requirtement is concerned, between the physical or intellectual attributes of the progenitors. The same could be said concerning a blanket ban on all abortions. But both a blanket requirement to abort and a blanket prohibition upon it are totalitarian, in that they are state usurpations of individual freedoms. Elective abortion is nothing more or less than individual women being granted the freedom of choice over what happens with and within their own bodies.

In that case, if a criminal case comes down the pike in which a mass murdering terrorist or a vicious serial killer is facing the death penalty, I would humbly request that you make your opinions known before jury selection is completed, so that you may be struck from the jury by the prosecution. If you cannot vote for the death penalty no matter WHO the defendant is or what the defendant may have done, it obliterates any distinction between such people and a garden variety murderer for whom a life sentence may be entirely appropriate. And I believe that such a distinction is indeed warranted.

In both cases, there are/were two players in the league who stood head and shoulders against the rest. Let us hope that Kobe Bryant and LeBron James get the chance to meet in future playoff series, so we can once again enjoy the kind of brilliance it was our privilege to behold in the Magic Johnson/Larry Bird rivalry during the monumental Lakers-Celtics playoff series in years past.

A church whose members picket the funerals of returning fallen US servicepeople and hold up placards saying that those soldiers, who gave their last full measure of devotion for their country, are burning in Hell for serving their nation in a military operating under Bill Clinton's don't ask/don't tell policy concerning homosexual orientation may be described as many things - rabidly homophobic comes to mind - but left wing is not among them.
