Good news (via Meryl Yourish): IDF soldiers have taken out the commander of the Hamas military wing in Hebron, an experienced mass murderer known as “the Engineer-4.”

Muhaned Taher, who is considered the most senior West Bank militant wanted by Israel, was assassinated Sunday evening by IDF troops in Nablus. Taher was commander of the Hamas military wing in the Hebron area.

A second Hamas member, Imad Draoza, was also killed and another was injured and arrested.

Palestinians said Taher, known as "the Engineer-4", as topping Israel's most wanted list.

According to preliminary reports, the three were shot by elite IDF soldiers who surrounded his home. A security source said that they had intended to kill just Taher, but an exchange of gunfire broke out, which led to the other Palestinians being shot.

The security establishment believes that Taher, 26, played a central role in several terror attacks, in which at least 107 Israelis were killed. Among them, Taher is suspected of being responsible for the suicide bombing of an Egged bus in Jerusalem about two weeks ago in which 19 Israelis were killed.

Are they trying to wipe out the braintrust of Hamas before nabbing their "under house arrest" leader?

Maybe the Belgian Courts will try to reverse this one on appeal.

A little off topic:

Why Israel? Why does she do the things she does? What does NEVER AGAIN really mean?

Not for the faint hearted . . .

"IDF soldiers have taken out the commander of the Hamas military wing"

please chajo, never use the euphemism "taken out" when "shot deader than a doornail" is available!

"A security source said that they had intended to kill just Taher, but an exchange of gunfire broke out, which led to the other Palestinians being shot. "

Is it just me, or does that not sound like the proper characterization for "assassinated?"

Is anyone else nervous about the new World Court? I worry that the Israelis will end up on a short list of "war criminals" for killing Palestinian "freedom fighters".

Not really, since the Israelis (and the U.S.) didn't sign on, and it's not like the UN has any enforcement powers. Politically, it's a liability, but a minor one, given the constant barrage of anti-Israel bigotry that spews out of the UN.

Good riddence to Bad rubbish, I hope this is just the beginning and not the end of the campaign.

Kathlyn, Israel has committed far worse war crimes in the eyes of the world: LIVING.

Removing Hamas's leaders will have the same effect as pouring water down an anthole and watching the critters run in all directions in panic. Then you get down to the nitty gritty and kill the Queen. That's the end of the colony. QED.

Just as Israel's pre-emptive strike on Iran's nuclear weapons facility caused an uproar in public and much mopping of brows in relief in private, the destruction of the terrorist infrastructure (as the Israelis put it) will do the same. These animals have worked themselves up to such a frenzy of bloodlust that they cannot be stopped by any means other than by killing them. Since they welcome death, Israel is more than happy to oblige them.

Reminds me of an old joke which I love:

God sent word to the world that there was so much hatred, killing and sin that He had decided to cause another flood. He gave the world thirty days' notice of His intentions.

The Pope issued an encyclical urging all of the world's Catholics immediately to organize mass marches carrying the Cross and the contents of all of the world's reliquaries, to fast, to give to charity and to beg God to reverse his decision for the sake of the faithful.

The ministers of the Protestant denominations told their congregations to get their affairs in order, to repent of their sins and to prepare themselves to die in a month's time.

The Muslims rejoiced at the opportunity to give up their lives in obedience to the will of God.

The Jews convened a closed emergency meeting in Jerusalem of the leaders of the Orthodox, Conservative and Reform movements. After hearing debate for an entire day, the leaders emerged and announced to the world's Jews, "Get busy. We have 29 days to learn to breathe under water."
