ElBaradei Notices Iran’s Manhattan Project

How close is Iran to having nukes if even the UN’s blind watchdog is starting to acknowledge it? Iran wants nuclear weapon technology -ElBaradei.

LONDON, June 17 (Reuters) - Iran wants the ability to build nuclear weapons to gain the reputation of a major power in the Middle East, the head of the U.N. nuclear watchdog said in a BBC interview broadcast on Wednesday.

Mohamed ElBaradei, director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), said Iran sees nuclear weapons as an “insurance policy” against perceived threats from neighbouring countries or the United States.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s disputed re-election has cast doubt on Western powers’ hopes of a new dialogue with Iran over its nuclear programme, which Iran says is for producing electricity only, not atomic bombs.

“My gut feeling is that Iran definitely would like to have the technology … that would enable it to have nuclear weapons if they decided to do so,” ElBaradei told the BBC. “It wants to send a message to its neighbours, it wants to send a message to the rest of the world: yes, don’t mess with us, we can have nuclear weapons if we want it.”

The UN has to be smacked in the face with a dead mackerel to acknowledge something is fishy, and even then they might just blame the smell on Israel, just to be consistent.

We'll need a UN commission to verify that first. Estimated Cost: 3.2 billion dollars.

Curiously, the Israelis are now saying Iran is a few years from having nukes - 2014.

I read that and thought that the 2014 was to have nukes and the missiles to fire them at Israel.

They could have nuclear weapons before then, although not in a form that would translate into a warhead.

Acknowledging it is one thing, doing something decisive to deal with it is quite another. The UN is capable of doing the former, and incapable of doing the latter.

They were hoping the nukes would get used on Tel Aviv. With Yazdi's cult of chaos about to take over Iran, ElBaradei realises that the nukes may well get used on Mecca.

I'm reading up on Yazdi and the Hojjatiya. They literally want chaos (because chaos will bring back the Imam). This is so crazy, I don't even know where to start. It's the sort of evil cult which a 13 year old might write up for a Dungeons & Dragons game.

It was inevitable that someone would claim that Mousavi is a Jew. That explains everything. Now we know who is responsible for all the problems in Iran. International Zionism.
MOUSAVI (of Moses) is a Jew
Judith Apter Klinghoffer
Giti from India sends me this conspiracy gem;

It is well known Mousavi (of Moses) is a Jew and the demonstrations in Iran are the work of Mossad agent provocateurs. The ordinary people of Iran are peace loving and would not wish to threaten the Islamic revolution. The agitators are funded by international zionism and the Jew owned international media, in thrall to the zionist oppressors, are running alongside.

In case you didn't notice my link, here's the miserable end of the article:

Still, the chance that scammers will get caught is so slim that they can be surprisingly brazen. In a practice known as "reloading," different con artists told our relative that they were from the FTC and the FBI, they knew he had been scammed, and they would help him get his money back -- but first they needed bait money to catch the crooks.

For months, family members wrestled with what to do. When confronted, our relative would acknowledge he had been ripped off and promise it would end -- but then he would succumb again, a pattern experts say is common.

The debate ended this spring when our relative, unable to cash out his life-insurance policy, was conned into selling his car and wiring $4,000 to Costa Rica. In May, with his three children and a stepson present, he acknowledged to a judge that he had been financially scammed. The judge granted guardianship to two of his children, taking away his right to manage his own affairs.

The family went to lunch with him, then dismantled his cellphone and redirected his mail to another state. A few hours later, he demanded his phone back. He wanted to call some "friends" who had some money waiting for him.

Hey jcm. Apple question for you. I put a copy of my resume on my desk top thinking I could paste it on a job search web site. I'm clueless. Tried to drag it, copy and paste it. What am I doing wrong?

Do they give you a box like here to type in?

With the document open, copy all then paste into the box.

If they want you to upload, there should be a button that let's you navigate to the file to upload.

If that doesn't help, email the link to the site and I'll see if I can give you more precise directions.

Right now I've got a few words for some of our brothers and sisters in the occupied zone: "the chair is against the wall, the chair is against the wall", "John has a long mustache, John has a long mustache". It's twelve o'clock, America, another day closer to victory. And for all of you out there, on, or behind the line, this is your song.

And then "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" plays on the radio.

And FYI, apparently, "John has a long mustache," was actually used as a code-signal by the French Resistance during World War II.

With the coup of the fanatical faction underway in Iran right now, it might be worht considering these curious facts:

1. Mohammed ElBaradei's wife is Iranian born Aida Elkachef.
2. Aida Elkachef happens to be a first cousin of Ayatollah Mohammad-Reza Mahdavi Kani.
3. Ayatollah Kani was a student of Ayatollah Khomeini.
4. Ayatollah Kani is currently the secretary of Tehran's Combatant Clergies' Association (Jame-e-y-e-Rowhaniat-e-Mobarez), president of Imam Sadiq University and also by the order of Imam Khomeini he is responsible for Tehran's Marvi religious school.

I was afraid of this:

Iranians who have been using websites such as Twitter to record every twist and turn of the political crisis faced the threat of state retribution yesterday from the country's feared Revolutionary Guard.

The elite military force issued a statement alleging it had identifed websites run by companies it charged were backed by the US and British secret services.

It warned that it would take action against people stoking "tensions" using new media, such as the micro-blogging website Twitter, which has been a key tool in the dissemination of news at a time of upheaval and censorship.

I had so many long days without sleep, I did not find time to do more. ...oh gun shots! I hope it is in the air only...

I have to go my dear...the shouts are getting louder and louder. [end quote]

I talked to 2 students who were present during the attack [on the university dormitory], it was heart breaking.

Also all press permits have been canceled; there is a Revolutionary Guard decree that journalists be barred from working.

Iranians who have been using websites such as Twitter to record every twist and turn of the political crisis faced the threat of state retribution yesterday from the country's feared Revolutionary Guard.

I just heard from an acquaintance in California. The brother of one of his former students just called him - he JUST made it out of Iran. He said the Basiji are in the airports pulling people out of the lines based on a list they have - and a lot of the security people are not speaking Farsi. I guess that's the Hamas/Hezbollah crowd.

Is that using Obamamath? Is the 4 a created 4 or a not fired 4 and how about the 2 also. In the Obamaverse, 2 > 4 < 3 at times it depends on the phase of the moon and Larry Summers. If it Spring then Summers Springs forth with new numbers. If it is Summer, Summers simmers and cooks the books. If its fall then the MSM fall for this. If it's winter then Summers says he won there. You see this is all explained by simple multicultural relativity. As assholes produce new programs at a rate that approaches the speed of light, the mass of the tax burden on the populace tends to infinity. However, there also is a phenomenon known as the Black Hole. It is located in Detroit in the office of Ms. Conyers. All pay to play money gets sucked into this black hole never to emerge once it gets past the event horizon. Occasionally however events such as Kilpatrick to escape the event horizon and are no longer cloaked by the physics of the black hole. A similar system has been noted in Chicago in the constellation Rezko.

Bombshell: Iran envoy in nuclear weapon slip-up PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 17 June 2009

ImageVIENNA (AFP) — Iran's envoy to the UN atomic watchdog caused a buzz among journalists on Wednesday when he apparently misspoke and said his country had the right to a nuclear weapon.

After saying as usual that Iran was only pursuing nuclear energy for civilian purposes, Ali Asghar Soltanieh strayed alarmingly from the Islamic republic's usual line.

"The whole Iranian nation are united... on (the) inalienable right of (having a) nuclear weapon," the envoy to the UN's International Atomic Energy Agency said.

He later got back on track, concluding: "We will not deprive our great nation from benefitting from peaceful uses of nuclear energy."

The UN Security Council has ordered Iran to suspend all enrichment-related activities until the IAEA has been able to verify the exact nature of Tehran's programme amid fears from Western powers that it wants to build an atomic bomb.

But Tehran has ignored such calls, insisting it wants to produce civilian nuclear energy.

I get this story from one of the roofers, who heard a conversation between the contractor and the across-the-road neighbor.

Neighbor, "Do you know me?"

Contractor, "Sure, Bill. I know you."

Neighbor, "That poor old lady living there saved my sanity when I got back from 'Nam. Her and her husband fed me, and listened to me, and cajoled me back into this world. I love that old woman. I surely would hate to see anyone cheat her."

It was a fine roof. Watertight and under budget.

I don't hold with intimidation of honest working people, but it never hurts to have an advocate watching over things.

Probably. But the Big Ego Boys are not invulnerable to the nastiness they dish out; you don't pour your soul, such as it is, into projecting an "I'm great/I'm funny/love me and worship me" persona unless you have huge needs for adulation.

Sure, Letterman can dismiss a few pathetic protesters whom he could probably buy and sell with his pocket change. But the fact that they despise him will still eat at him, even though he despises them--because it is living evidence that a corner of the world does not love him.

Hmmm. Maybe I'll send him a letter and tell him what I think of him. Maybe a photo too.

I'd bet he's not sorry. These forced apopolgies are rarely sincere. Dom Imus probably wasn't sorry, Same goes for the Danish cartoonists, the guy who made "Piss Christ", Lenny Bruce and Howard Stern.
Letterman's audience probably wasn't offended either and his ratings will be fine. If Palin's supporters can intimidate NBC or the sponsors enough then Dave will get fired in spite of how many people watch his show. A very vocal minority can make enough noise to get him fired if they try hard enough.

In midst of auto crisis, Al Gore backs a new car company in Louisiana

"In the midst of the worse automotive industry crisis in a generation, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal is announcing today that a new car company will build an almost one million square-foot plant in Monroe, in the northern part of the state. The company, identity to be revealed, is rumored to be planning to produce high-mileage, gas-powered automobiles.

Funding will come at least in part from venture capital company Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, and readers might recognize another name that recently joined the company as a partner: Al Gore. KPCB, which has formed an alliance with Gore's Generation Investment Management, specializes in green and cutting-edge tech investments. Looking at the partners, I would expect that the tech behind this new company must be a breakthrough; otherwise, why would it back a car that does not use electricity, fuel cells, or a hybrid system?"

SNIP

Update: Gov. Jindal has announced that the car company is V-Vehicle Company (VVC), headquartered in San Diego.

Interesting observation:

...this has always been Obama’s MO. He’s always a step or two behind where his supporters want him to be, getting pulled along by their enthusiasm, rather than out ahead of them where he might get cut off. It’s a community organizer’s MO. You never get out ahead of your constituency. Instead you shape the playing field so that your constituency’s desires flow towards where you think they should go, and allow them to carry you along behind them.

I mean people focused on letterman and not the Iranian people.

As Joni Mitchell sings, "There's a wide world of worthy causes . . ." I agree that the Iranian story is of a higher importance and more compelling than Letterman vs. Palin, but I'm not in a position to decide how people spend their time. People have their pet causes. The woman crocheting booties for the hospital gift shop and not paying an ounce of attention to what's happening in Iran gets no harsh words here.

Well, I see what happened to my "missing" iPhone apps now. After the 3.0 update, the new "Voice Memos" app is placed on the first page of apps by default.

This caused the iPhone to create a new (almost blank) page of apps with only one app on it between the first page of apps and what used to be my second page of apps. The apps that I thought were missing are on the new third page of apps.

Leader of the forces of freedom and democracy? Obviously they are not paying attention. That was the last President, and pretty much every one before this one. Except maybe for Carter.

Prosecutors say former Rep. William Jefferson hoped to funnel hundreds of millions to his family

"ALEXANDRIA, VA. -- Former U.S. Rep. William Jefferson, D-New Orleans, illegally used his office to broker business deals in west Africa in exchange for bribes he hoped would enrich his family to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars, the government's lead prosecutor said in his opening statement Tuesday.

"This case is about corruption, about one of our government's most powerful officials, a member of Congress, using his public office for private gain -- repeatedly, " Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark Lytle said in a standing-room-only courtroom in the federal courthouse where the fate of the former nine-term member of Congress will be decided.

SNIP

" The Jeffersons, Lytle said, were living beyond their means with credit card debt of $62,000, overdrawing their bank account 70 times -- one time by $8,000 -- and more than $40,000 in interest and late charges and bounced-check fees. Jefferson had to find some way to pay their bills, Lytle said, and "he chose bribes and corruption."

But defense attorney Robert Trout told the jury of eight women and four men that although Jefferson may have done things they might find unethical and "disapprove of, " he did not exact any money in exchange for official acts and that he is "not guilty of any of these charges."

It’s Iran, Stupid
The unintended consequences of Obama’s attempt to jump-start the peace process.

In entering the maze of Middle Eastern conflicts, President Obama is likely to learn the rule of unintended consequences. The president seems to have thought that he could pacify the Muslim world, negotiate with Iran, and force Israel to accept a compromise it had long rejected. But as is often the case in this region, matters have not proceeded according to plan. The president now faces upheaval in Iran, a Muslim world that is no more receptive to his message than it was previously, and an Israel in which Netanyahu now has a stronger standing both coalition-wise and in regard to an attack on Iran. The peace process will now get bogged down in pedantry and semantics, while Israel’s strong coalition has opened opportunities that could fundamentally change the rules of the game.

re: #451 Killgore Trout

I'd bet he's not sorry. These forced apopolgies are rarely sincere. Dom Imus probably wasn't sorry, Same goes for the Danish cartoonists, the guy who made "Piss Christ", Lenny Bruce and Howard Stern.
Letterman's audience probably wasn't offended either and his ratings will be fine. If Palin's supporters can intimidate NBC or the sponsors enough then Dave will get fired in spite of how many people watch his show. A very vocal minority can make enough noise to get him fired if they try hard enough.

I just don't see Letterman losing his job over this. His first apology was really more taunting of the Palins, at least it seemed like it to me.
Just the fact that his family is becoming a target now, which I do disaprove of might make him have regrets.
You may be right though & he is such a smug, cretin that he is proud of himself.

Armies of the night

It is 10 o’clock at night in a district of modest, middle class apartment blocks in the centre of Tehran, and the people have gathered on their roofs to enjoy Iran’s most dramatic political agitation for a quarter of a century. “Allahu Akbar!” yell a dozen people from the roof I am on, the women wearing either chador or coat and headscarf, the men in short-sleeve shirts. From the buildings around us, from buildings all over this capital city of eight million people, comes the echo, “Allahu Akbar!” With the help of this unanswerable statement of fact and allegiance, revolutionary Iranians put to flight the last Shah, back in 1979. With the same cry, they hope to be rid of a second unloved leader, their current president, the fiery populist Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

...The possibility of a major confrontation – with or without the participation of the police, who have so far behaved with relative restraint – cannot be discounted. Although Ahmadinejad’s support base is smaller than Mousavi’s, his followers are more fanatical and better armed.

I wonder if Biden thinks they want the bomb or if we should "withhold comment until we have a thorough review". Obama already said "No single nation should pick and choose which nations hold nuclear weapons". He has kept silent about the "election" in Iran some say because of a back door deal that has resulted in less Iranian interference in Iraq.

On another note, does Khamenei really support Ahmadinejad? Many other Mullahs do not.

A young cleric from the Shiite holy city of Qom addressed the crowd. "I have come to bring you a message from Qom," he said. "Without a doubt, all clerical scholars are against the current situation. The only person acceptable to them is Mr. Mousavi, they have rejected Mr. Ahmadinejad's request to meet them in the past two days."

Bloody Day on Iran's Streets
If this is a power grab by the military then we could see a real bloodbath between the Mullahs and the Guards. That is if the Basiji support the clerics, if not its a done deal.

Good afternoon Lizard nation. Odd being here at 1:38 PDT. Off work early, have an 8pm service call so here I sit. So are the mad mullahs hanging from lamp posts yet? Or has the IIRG started slaughtering people in wholesale lots? Turn on the news and you'd never know anything was happening over there.

Another nice thing about spy (if you can keep from getting whiplash) is that you can see comments scroll by while you are typing a response, which is what I just did with you. Saves time and adds more content. cool

I love it. It's especially neat when watching the trolls posting on the threads that are deader'n doornails.

What do you do, keep two LGF windows open and resize them to fit one screen? Haven't diddled with that.

re: #507 3 wood

The Cubs are 2nd to the last in the league in runs scored. They are losing to a real bad White Sox team.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and project that the Cubs will not won a Championship this year.

The White Sox are not that bad. They are streaky & young, so if they go to the post season they could be tough

re: #64 Desert Dog

I do what my TV tells me...I hear and I obey...uhhh...uhhh...uhhh

Here we stand -
(remote control buttons in our sweaty little hands)
As one man -
(we're lining up and waiting for someone's command)
We don't move -
(we sent out for food, get the news on video)
I can prove -
(there's no need for movies, we got HBO)
In the
T.V. Age

They're out there somewhere
(you know the force has got a lot of power - but what makes you think it gives a s#it about you . . . who are you anyway?)
They're taking over
(and I believe - the aliens have to take a physical form on our planet - so why not one with 13 channels . . .)
They're out there somewhere

Times must change
(this ain't the stone age, we don't have rocks in our heads)
What's so strange -
(we don't work no more, so why get out of bed)

T.V. rules -
(pretty soon you won't be able to turn it off at all)
All you fools -
(then it'll turn you off - your back's against the wall)
In the -
T.V. Age

T.V.Age by Joe Jackson from the album Night and Day

"UN’s blind watchdog" -

Charles, you missed the usual "toothless" addition to the description.
By the way, I always thought the UN's Blind Toothless WatchDog is really a wolf in sheep's disguise.

...producing electricity only...

And what are the ICBMs for, then? Shipping off the electricity?

Solid fuel, long-distance, surface-to-surface missiles like Iran's are only useful for launching weapons of mass destruction.

Yes, Saddam was able to use medium range SCUDs in 1991, but they weren't decisive because they only had conventional explosives.
