Why would any sane person give a rip about what she thinks. For that matter since Peta initiated this asinine ad why would anyone give a rip about PETA? Hold it, some people might, because Peta might interfere with whatever lawful endeavor they happened to be engaged in.

The government wastes a ton of money on various studies but one I would support wasting our tax dollars on is to see the profiles, life history, views, etc. on anyone asinine enough to join Peta.

Dead plants broken down by bacteria and/or fungi can serve this purpose just fine, as it turns out. And did, for some time, especially on land.

I know, but I just watched a bit of this Blu-Ray I recently bought. It was one of the BBC planet earth series, but an offshoot titled "Nature's Most Amazing Events". One of the ones they featured is the Pacific Salmon Run, and they mentioned that they now that 80% of the nitrogen in the soil in almost the entire Pacific coast of Canada, from British Columbia up to Alaska comes from the decaying bodies of Salmon, brought up from the ocean.

When animals have responsibilities, they can have rights.

At the moment, we worry about humane treatment. Animals do not - in my view, and I'm nuts about animals - have rights.

I get what you're saying, but in my view it's a mistake to link rights with responsibilities. An incapacitated person may not have responsibilities, but surely does have rights. Similarly, young children may not have responsibilities, but also have rights.

The rights/responsibilities debate is an old and complicated one and still ongoing, granted.

Guevara, who was practically the architect of the Soviet-Cuban relationship,[85] played a key role in bringing to Cuba the Soviet nuclear-armed ballistic missiles that precipitated the Cuban Missile Crisis in October 1962 and brought the world to the brink of nuclear war.[86] During an interview with the British Communist newspaper The Daily Worker a few weeks after the crisis, Guevara still fuming over the perceived Soviet betrayal, stated that if the missiles had been under Cuban control, they would have fired them off.

I don't know if any missiles were aimed at Atlanta, but if one was Che could have killed Steven Soderbergh's parents the year before little Steven was born. The upside, the world would be spared the four-hour film Che.

FBV -

I am sure we will differ on this one a bit. For a Photo-Op only, we agree - Get a good camera and capture images of the great beasts - digitally or on film, preferably KODACHROME - as long as it lasts. 500mm lenses are really cheap on e-bay as are 2x extenders. On a compatible Digital SLR, 1000mm = something more like 1500mm converted to 35mm film format.
As to an animal that I would shoot and EAT - a bit different. That is all.

re: #290 A Kiwi Infidel

Mandy, hows ya mom?

From what I saw today, her O levels are not climbing even after she quit smoking and despite her 24/7 reliance on O. In fact, they're going down. She is 98 per cent invalid. Watching her breathe while she's sleeping is disturbing--her shoulders rise and fall. She's in a lot of back, chest, shoulder and arm pain. She monitors her O levels all the time.

This is radically different from the last few times time she was seriously ill, including the time she had an MI. Then, she would recover after coming home from the hospital slowly but surely within four or so days. She's either gonna' die soon or, she'll recover somewhat. Who knows? Either way, I'm steeling myself. My dad is trying to do the same but, it's hard for him to see his companion of 53 years (married for 51 years) dying. Finally he's let go of a lot of his anger but, he's a changed man. It's awful.

Thank you so much for asking. It preys upon my mind constantly but I try not to talk about it here or let it bleed through into the tone of my psots.

re: #299 ShanghaiEd

OK, I'll bite. Many rescue organizations kill animals as a last resort when homes can't be found for them. What are their alternatives?

There are a few animal shelters around here, run by the SPCA, that don't euthanize any animals. They are animal farms and let them run around in large fields.

PETA got caught a few years ago picking up dogs from a shelter in NC and killing them on the way home. The shelters were told PETA would find homes for the animals. They lied. When they got back to Virginia they dumped the carcasses in dumpsters at a shopping mall. This happened a few times until they got caught. Unfortunately the two PETA members were not found guilty in court.

It preys upon my mind constantly but I try not to talk about it here or let it bleed through into the tone of my psots.

so sorry for what you're going thru.

I felt the cat's eyes boring into my forehead. Or, maybe it was his weight on my chest. Whichever, I came up off my futon in 1/10th of a nano-second.

I thought that might be the case. Any vocals in that?

Will they embrace the ideology of their mass murderer grandpa too?

"Exposing The Real Che Guevara And The Useful Idiots Who Idolize Him" by Humberto Fontova

Great and funny book about the real Che!

One of the funnier things the author noticed was that Che gave an interview saying that if the Soviets would have left behind nukes on Cuba, Che would have no problem using them on NYC. And soon after Che's image gained some popularity, you would see some New Yorkers wearing a shirt with his face on it, completely oblivious to what would become of them if Che had his way.

I think she's one of those women who are exceptionally attractive.... until they open their mouths.

It's kinda like Janeane Garofalo.... watching her in some of her movies, she's outstanding, and in person she is quite attractive.... but when you listen to her politics, we wanna give her the brain bleach ticket. She is a good actress, a tolerable comedian, and politically an "unorganized grabasstic piece of amphibian shit," if I may be allowed to quote R. Lee Ermey.

My cat who is injured just came to where I am. He's taken his medicine, no problems. He began rubbing his head all over me couldn't get enough attention, and purred. I'm the only one he purrs for.

I'm with you, I would be willing to bet a lot of PETA folks are so busy "protecting" animals they have none of their own. Pets take time.

My cat -- that I inherited from my sister -- has one favorite spot. When I'm sitting here at the computer, she'll hop up to the top of my chair, claw the top of the chair for a bit (leather chair), and crawl down me to the crook of my left arm. She likes to coop there.

I usually don't mind it, unless I'm trying to type, but from time to time she uses her claws. In some cases, I don't care -- heavy T-shirt - but in several cases, my primary word is "ouch."

It really doesn't matter, though. In my company, her tail is perpetually straight up. That's enough for me.

I don't know if it's the pose, the arms, or whatever she appears to be greased with, but she doesn't look entirely real. Like she's carved out of plastic or something.

Some journalists came up with the question, if this woman posing for PETA is really related to Guevara the massmurderer. Tried to google Lydia Guevara, didn't find any hints about her. Nice publicity ploy by the vegan-fascists?

Is there a more irrelevant organization in the world than PETA? I used to be a member, but the organization's relentless silliness and uselessness drove me away. I mean, they have accomplished virtually nothing besides attracting attention to themselves. Now they team up with the grandaughter of a murdering Communist piece of shit.

Every one rightly sees them as a bunch grandstanding clowns, and they lost all credibility with me when it was discovered they were euthanazing animals they were supposedly rescuing. As an animal welfare organization, they suck!

If you want to do good for animals support the Humane Society or the ASPCA. They actually get things done. PETA = FAIL. And visit Che Mart on the web for Che shirts that put that murdering scumbag in his place. Comemierda Comunista!

This only makes sense if the unacceptability of smoking is not at all.

I don't smoke. I don't particularly like being in a confined space with someone smoking. Smoking is almost always unhealthy for those who smoke. But, smoking is not an unacceptable behavior in any reasonable sense.

I used to be a member, but the organization's relentless silliness and uselessness drove me away.

See, their outward silliness prevented me from ever becoming a member in the first place. Back in college, when I was more prone to be attracted to such idealistic sort of organizations, I witnessed a bunch of these folks out front of Nordstroms in S.F. They threw red paint at a person with a faux fur collar (it was obviously faux fur), missed that person entirely and hit a japanese tourist couple that was standing nearby. I kid you not, every single one of the PETA folks involved (there were 3, if I recall correctly) were wearing leather Birkenstocks.

I should have known better, and if I had seen what you saw them do I might have thought twice. It was a "live and learn" situation for me, plus I used to be a liberal when I was younger and far less informed. I guess I was a bit silly myself, too.

Yeah, but I still want to sleep with her.

She's always had this certain something, don't ask me what. The first time I saw her on the Ben Stiller show many moons ago, my first thought was "Holy fsck, who is THAT?" I actually bought the DVD of the complete series just because she looked so good in it.

I don't know how or why it is that she is such a loon. Leftist ideologies and points of view have never made much sense to me, and as I grow older they seem even more bizarre and delusional. I can only conclude that it is because the fundamental principles by which they judge the world are flawed.
