Keith Jarrett with Jack DeJohnette and Gary Peacock, telepathic as always, with an interpretation of the jazz classic “Stella by Starlight”. The art of the jazz trio at its most refined.

I've always been amazed at how jazz musicians can be so "in tune" with each other - just like they are telepathic!

2 experiencedtraveller  Mon, Jun 29, 2009 6:28:29pm

There is no such thing as 'soft' power.

There is only just authority and tyranny.

3 Irish Rose  Mon, Jun 29, 2009 6:29:13pm

So not first...

4 pingjockey  Mon, Jun 29, 2009 6:29:26pm

It must be age. I wouldn't have listened to jazz 20 years ago. So I must have picked up a little wisdom!

5 Irish Rose  Mon, Jun 29, 2009 6:30:32pm

Beautiful, Charles.
Just the mood I was looking for tonight.

6 HoosierHoops  Mon, Jun 29, 2009 6:32:05pm

The greatest Jazz band I have ever heard was at the Great American Music Hall in San Fran... Their name was Oregon...To say that night was magical would be an understatement...

Movie quote time:

"To me, jazz is noise. Insolent noise."

8 Racer X  Mon, Jun 29, 2009 6:33:44pm

Music is math.

Jazz is calculus.

9 SasquatchOnSteroids  Mon, Jun 29, 2009 6:34:15pm

Casablanca trivia:

In the 1980s, this film's script was sent to readers at a number of major studios and production companies under its original title, "Everybody Comes To Rick's". Some readers recognized the script but most did not. Many complained that the script was "not good enough" to make a decent movie. Others gave such complaints as "too dated", "too much dialog" and "not enough sex".

You know what is fucking funny? My dog keeps running through the room every couple of minutes chasing a fly...He runs in a big circle snapping his jaws and off like lightning out the room...
I have to admit...I'm laughing my ass off tonight...

Good evening.

Mixed in with all the bad economic news is this nugget of improvement. The TED spread, (a measure of credit risk in the economy) has dropped to 42 and change, about half of what it was a year ago. The more the TED spread drops, the less credit risk there is perceived in the financial system.

I see this improvement as more due to the steps taken by the Fed in the last 6 months than anything the White House has done. Also, with the suspension of mark to market the instability in the prices of some of these assets has started to settle down.

And Bogie actually never did say "Play it again, Sam" in Casa Blanca

Hey Charles, I got the new Regina Spektor album for my friends. They absolutely love it! Thanks again for the heads up.

26 Pianobuff  Mon, Jun 29, 2009 7:00:19pm

The chemistry between these guys is just superb. Right up on a level with Bill Evan's first trio.

Thanks for the tune, Charles. Gave me lift and calm after finishing out my 3rd smoke-free day.

27 americanpoliticalorphan  Mon, Jun 29, 2009 7:04:00pm

I could listen to this stuff all day long and never get tired of it.

Thanks Charles!

Thanks. Cold turkey. What a pain. The smartest people in the world are the ones who never picked up this crappy habit. 28 years later and I'm trying my best. Good support system at home. Saw an acupuncturist Friday and today. Hopefully, the worst is over.

31 ShanghaiEd  Mon, Jun 29, 2009 7:07:14pm

I love the way Jarrett hums and grunts to himself while playing...seems to be a pure joy there, of a child at play at what he most desires to do.

And what a stunningly virtuoso musician. Thanks, Charles, for this evening treat!

I always told my kids they would never look back and think it was a great decision if they smoked, and they don't. I did, and quit. It's hard... I know.

33 katemaclaren  Mon, Jun 29, 2009 7:11:07pm

My little 11-year old loves jazz--I don't. However, I'm very pleased that he has made up his own mind about what he likes--and it's good music, whether or not it's my taste or not. I don't like opera either--he does. Go figure.

34 katemaclaren  Mon, Jun 29, 2009 7:13:41pm

re: #32 J.D.

Wow. That means I'm smart! ;-)
EVERYONE I knew smoked including mom, dad, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends--but I always thought it was a dumb thing to do--burning rubbish and then taking a lungful of it? cough cough hack hack. no thanks. Most of these people have tried to quit until the day they died. Most unsuccessfully.

The music is great at LGF; just one more reason to be here! Thanks for this one. If you take requests Charles, please shoot us a Joe Zawinal video along the way.
