I think “Bright Size Life” was his first ECM album (with Jaco Pastorius and Bob Moses). What a coincidence—I heard the song “Jaco” today from the same album.

to me the guitar is the stuff of myth…very easy to play yet extremely difficult to master…it is very democratic in that regard…if I only knew half of the mystery of the fret board and those strings I would be a genius…you can by a reasonable guitar for a couple hundred bucks or spend fortunes on the one you just have to own…they have a simple street cred as well as Carnegie Hall pomp and ritz….the guitar is an awsome instrument…you can play it or it can play you…there is a deep reverence in there in that you can make sounds that you simply cannot live without after it reverberates through your body…a guitar may be like a sensual woman or a fast, powerful sports car…it can express feelings that words never could…guitars are very cool in my world…

U.S. Marines Launch Major Operation in Afghanistan
Thousands of U.S. Marines descended upon the volatile Helmand River valley in helicopters and armored convoys early Thursday morning, mounting an operation that represents the first large-scale test of the U.S. military’s new counter-insurgency strategy in Afghanistan. The operation will involve about 4,000 troops from the 2nd Marine Expeditionary Brigade, which was dispatched to Afghanistan earlier this year by President Obama to combat a growing Taliban insurgency in Helmand and other southern provinces. The Marines, along with an Army brigade that is scheduled to arrive later this summer, plan to push into pockets of the country where NATO forces have not had a presence. In many of those areas, the Taliban have evicted local police and government officials, and taken power.
Once Marine units arrive in their designated towns and villages, they have been instructed to build and live in small outposts among the local population. The brigade’s commander, Brig. Gen. Lawrence D. Nicholson, said his Marines will focus their efforts on protecting civilians from the Taliban, and on restoring Afghan government services, instead of a series of hunt-and-kill missions against the insurgents.

Related: Poll: Pakistanis view Taliban as threat to country
More than 80 percent of Pakistanis view the Taliban and al-Qaida as a critical threat to the country, an opinion poll released Wednesday said, marking a turn in public opinion that stands to bolster the army’s ongoing offensive against militants close to the Afghan border.
Hopefully, this will turn the tide for not just the Afghanis, but Pakistanis too. It wasn’t until the Iraqis turned on the “insurgents” that Iraq became more stable.

and further it takes years of intense practice to be as good as Charles…good enough to support other renowned artists, travel and perform before big appreciative audiences, make MONEY, and get your name up on gigs that will last forever is a remarkable feat that has less to do with luck and more to do with patience, talent and focus…and after that invent a landmark gig like LGF in a totally different realm of talent!….wow

[…] Draw you own conclusions. I will note that if you take the Zogby result that 51% believe in guided “development of life” and the result that 53% hold that you can believe in evolution and God, it probably means that a large proportion of the 51% (and thus the American public) are in fact theistic evolutionists, a group that is anathema to ID proponents. […]
Maybe this would make a good keypost?

Not yet discussed here (ttbomk), though Charles probably is aware of this, recent polls on evolution (yes, more polls):
God or Darwin? The world in evolution beliefs
The results show that only 33% of the American populace agree that there is scientific evidence for evolution. It was commissioned in the UK but covered several countries.
The DI is crowing about there Zogby poll:
In Darwin Anniversary Year, New Zogby Poll Reveals Majority Support for Intelligent Design

I hope the poster is correct, I would hate to believe 67 percent of the US population is that bloody stupid.

Some one to keep an eye on in WA State.
Susan Hutchinson (R), former TV anchor, running to replace Ron “Tax to the Max out of Control Budget” Sims, now #2 at HUD.
We’ll she how she pans out.

Dude, God created the Big Bang, therefore, evolution. Easy!
There, everybody’s happy, ID is true (well, some form or other), the YEC’s aren’t happy but you can’t make them all happy all the time.
Peace, harmony, puppies, daisies…. la la la la.

We had to shut down our exercise Tuesday night because of all the lightning. They decided it was’t safe for people to be up in the guard towers (not to mention all the role-player “detainees” who were penned up within hundreds of yards of chain link fence and concertina wire.
I’ve never seen so much rain in this area in June before.

But doesn’t majority rule automatically trump the scientific method? If we can just get to 100% support for Creationism, all that troublesome contrary evidence will disappear in a puff of (holy) smoke… /

Here is the great irony: Look at the column that is labeled “Know a good/fair amount”, check which country’s respondents claimed to know the most.
Now, look under the column labeled “Do not think there is scientific evidence for evolution” and see which country’s respondents gave that the most nod.
Answer: same country… you guessed it… the US.
Americans have a deep sense of arrogance, I gather?

Seriously, I don’t care who and how many people believe in any iteration of ID, or YEC. I don’t care.
The issue is when they want to compare it to science by destroying science as proof of their theistic beliefs, and worse, teach it to children as science in public schools. At times we all think we may assume everybody else knows what we think, but it’s worth saying again, and probably with regularity.
Pat Buchannon’s column still has me riled up. He isn’t promoting his belief in ID, he’s attacking science by concluding it’s faith (since belief in Darwinism, is, after all, faith!). Charlatan, scoundrel.

Something is odd about the survey. Either:
1. You think there is scientific evidence for evolution.
2. You don’t think there is scientific evidence for evolution.
3. You don’t know (you “neither agree nor disagree that there is scientific evidence for evolution”).
The totals don’t add up to 100%. What could be the missing alternative? Is it that when they asked, for example, the missing 20% in the US, their answer was “fish”?
