We'd better not let these people near the Krell machine.
One obvious way to reduce the inflammatory nature of posts would be to have more realistic avatars that could change expression on demand for offensive posts. Personally, I'd like a collection of pictures of the more attractive women on this blog. Hey, wouldn't ALL us guys like that! You know, reduce anonymity, kindle romance- er, I mean compare notes about the Kindle.

Online Intermittent Explosive Disorder (a.k.a. The Thin-Skinned Rage-o-holic)
Like serial killers, these people seem pretty normal at first. For hours or even days, they'll carry on funny, charming conversations in a forum or comment section. But then something, anything, sets him off and he devolves into a tantrum that would make Christian Bale say, "Dude, calm down! Jesus."
Sounds sort of like a few people who used to comment here who are now commenting from a stalker blog.
Reminds me of Nodrog. I didn't mind him but when I got here everyone hated him. After he was banned he spent years blogging about his time here. Just a few months ago he made a final appeal to be let back in to lgf. He eventually gave up. I wonder what he's doing now.

Along with anonymity, the sheer speed and volume of communications on the Internet are part of why some people behave like jerks online. They get overwhelmed by the velocity and number of postings/emails, and don't have time to think them, or their own responses, out properly. So they shoot from the hip, and often end up sounding like unsocialized two-year-olds.

Pretending has a way of losing to reality, does it not?
Sup hoopster?
I actually prefer to discuss certain issues online than in person, like politics.
Usually when I discuss political issues face to face with someone else, someone usually ends up screaming.
I'm the same way. After a while, it gets a bit tiring, when someone you know;
1. Asks your opinion of a political/social issue;
2. You give it (politely);
3. They don't agree;
4. They "go nuclear" on you, refuse to listen to your reasoning, accuse you of various heinous crimes/beliefs/ etc., and finish up with "I thought you were an intelligent person!" (I.e., someone who had the same views they do.)
I finally realized that the reason this often happens when dealing with "progressives", at least, is that many such prefer a more "mystical" worldview (New Age, etc.), in which "feelings" are more important and "true" than Western, linear logic, which they regard as "cold", "unfeeling", etc. As such, when you present them with an argument based on factual reasoning, you and they are literally not "reasoning" in the same way. And to them, your method attacks the very foundations of their belief system and reality model. It is comparable to trying to explain the Copernican system of planetary motion to a Persian priest/astronomer of Xerxes' time, to whom those planete' in the sky are not solid bodies moving according to immutable physical laws, but gods traversing the heavens as they will, in patterns intended to convey their orders to mortals through the insight of the priest/astrologer. In short, you are committing apostasy, blasphemy, and few other juicy ecclesiastical crimes all at once.
Believe me- the Lizard Legion knows far more about my sociopolitical views than anyone except one or two people who know me "face to face", who have known me literally for decades.
Meant to say this in the other thread, but missed it--congrats on raising a fine son, sir. Please pass my sincere thanks to him from a vet, if you would.

Right now if you have a blog or forum or anything else with open comments, and you don't have a human moderator to watch it, you're going to wind up with a wasteland. As soon as more than one troll shows up, they will feed off each other until everyone else is gone. You have to control them. And don't start talking about free speech; the troll's goal is to shut down speech, to either fill the channel with noise until no one can talk to each other, or to get everyone talking about him instead of the subject at hand. He's a guy in a coffee shop screaming nonsense over a bullhorn.

That's completely true. Every unmoderated comment thread everywhere eventually gets turned into a wasteland. (If it doesn't, that's only because there aren't enough people reading it).
John Bolton doing what he does best; telling it like it is:
Only those most theologically committed to negotiation still believe Iran will fully renounce its nuclear program. Unfortunately, the Obama administration has a "Plan B," which would allow Iran to have a "peaceful" civil nuclear power program while publicly "renouncing" the objective of nuclear weapons. Obama would define such an outcome as "success," even though in reality it would hardly be different from what Iran is doing and saying now. A "peaceful" uranium enrichment program, "peaceful" reactors such as Bushehr and "peaceful" heavy-water projects like that under construction at Arak leave Iran with an enormous breakout capability to produce nuclear weapons in very short order. And anyone who believes the Revolutionary Guard Corps will abandon its weaponization and ballistic missile programs probably believes that there was no fraud in Iran's June 12 election. See "huge credibility gap," supra.
In short, the stolen election and its tumultuous aftermath have dramatically highlighted the strategic and tactical flaws in Obama's game plan. With regime change off the table for the coming critical period in Iran's nuclear program, Israel's decision on using force is both easier and more urgent. Since there is no likelihood that diplomacy will start or finish in time, or even progress far enough to make any real difference, there is no point waiting for negotiations to play out. In fact, given the near certainty of Obama changing his definition of "success," negotiations represent an even more dangerous trap for Israel.
Mrs. Clinton and her boss insist we negotiate even though there's nothing we have to offer the mad mullahs that they want (save for Israel, of course). The clock is ticking, Bibi...

I saw Transformers this weekend and after sitting through nearly two and a half hours of a movie that felt like watching somebody else playing a computer game I came out of the cinema feeling underwhelmed and flat.
What I mean by that is that there was no ‘wow' factor to the thing. By having so much going on and having such a movie spectacle it's like throwing everything you can do with CG on screen, with explosions, robots, more explosions, and the usual Michael Bay subtlety going on. The entire affair seemed clinical, personality free and really just quite dull, a fireworks display of pixels without the hotdog or jacket spud of entertainment or enjoyment..
In my opinion it seems that by bunging everything through a computer that cinema has shown the ‘man behind the curtain', that anything and everything has that digital tweak added to it. The spectacle has superseded the ‘magic' that is actual storytelling as the most important element to a film

"Munchausen by Internet (a.k.a. The Sob Story Teller)"
Hmmmphhh! At this point, I should probably reiterate that my dog really did die a while back and that Judas and Jezebel (aka Jabba the Slutt) really are my brother and ex-wife respectively. Even so, I have no serious health problems, both of my daughters are beautiful and (perhaps more importantly) self-supporting, and my grandchildren are the greatest treasure in the known universe. It does annoy me that I am losing my hair and getting a lot of wrinkles but since I am now 60 (holy shit!) years of age, I probably don't have much cause for complaint.
Actually I can do anything I could do when I was 20, er, just not as often; or as long; or with quite the same results.
The problem with many movies today is shit writing. It's not that the cgi is 'too good' - actually, I think it still has a long way to go before it gets really good - it's just that it's not being used wisely, and that it's being used to pad out predictable, empty stories.
It was pretty good, but there was one narrator who was talking about Waits' anti-Iraq war songs and he said something like, "We're living in a time that is remarkably close to fascism."
What a douche!
If there was anything like fascism in this country, that guy would be dead or in a camp.
WASHINGTON – Days from his first Moscow summit, President Barack Obama declared Thursday that former Russian President Vladimir Putin "still has a lot of sway" in his nation and needs an in-person reminder the Cold War is over.
Oh, Puh-leeeaaase. This coming from a guy with a "please take my lunch money" sign stuck on his back.

Thats the point of the article. CGI really doesn't have impression or impact anymore, but it keeps getting thrown up for the "WOW, LOOK AT THIS!" reaction instead of working on an actual script, plot or acting.
Someone with the need for self-abasement feels that they should be perpetually punished for their wrongdoings. They're like the albino that whipped himself in The Da Vinci Code, only instead of drawing blood they draw "Fuck you noobtard" comments. It's either a subconscious way to feel like they're paying back the world for their sins, or they're just so out of self-esteem that they can't muster the energy to defend themselves.
If taken to an extreme, it can even turn into Online Erotic Humiliation where the abuse turns into sexual arousal. So the next time you tell someone to go fuck themselves, you might have just given them the material to do so.
Worried about today's unemployment figures and those foreclosure signs in your neighborhood? Relax. Obama's tax cheating, affirmative action appointee helpfully explains:
“Not all the recovery money has been put to work yet,” said the labor secretary, Hilda L. Solis. “We’re making progress.”
But Ms. Solis acknowledged that joblessness was already much worse than the administration projected in January when it created its stimulus spending bill, suggesting then that joblessness would peak at about 8 percent.
Asked why the unemployment rate is already much higher, Ms. Solis noted that much of the stimulus money was moving slowly, with construction projects in particular requiring time-consuming government permits.
“Over all, it’s been a challenge,” Ms. Solis said. “We still have a ways to go.”
I have worked with engineers who I eventually diagnosed with some form of Munchausen syndrome. It seemed automation or equipment was always broke down in their areas and they were always fixing it. Then they got to complain about how crappy the equipment was and how they had to patch it all together. Other people would work the same area on other shifts and it would run fine for them.
My immediate concern is reversing the prospects of the folks trying to program our country to BE Marxist lite, redistributionist, class warfare based as President Obama clearly intends to do.

eon, I think your description of that feeling-based mindset is very accurate, but I question labeling it simply as "New Age" or "progressive."
In fact, it seems almost identical to the experiences we have here when trying to reason with extreme advocates of Intelligent Design, Nirtherism, anti-Vax, and any number of other causes. No amount of factual references seem to work, and the exchange ends in a burst of emotion and name-calling.
I often talk to people who seem to measure one's patriotism or conservatism by how emotional he/she feels about it, so that the mere quoting of facts, in itself, proves you're not a "good" person, in their view. I do think this emotionally based reality model completely straddles the political spectrum.

If I were interviewing her, I'd lose my job immediately because I couldn't help myself from saying, "You realize that's complete bullshit and no one believes you, right?"
Munchausen by Internet (a.k.a. The Sob Story Teller)
That one reminded me of someone who used to post on Morocco.com, Egypt.com and Turkey.com, under a variety of sockpuppets (nics like fatima, maryam etc). She'd introduce herself as a nice, slightly vulnerable person seeking help with some family/health/ romantic etc problem. Everyone would try to help her, but after a while the discussion would always start to turn nasty, with the girl taking offence at some rather harmless piece of advice that she had been given, and then giving that person, and anyone else who tried to arbitrate in the matter a hard time, before finally letting rip with all kinds of abuse and threats etc.
I must admit, it did become funny watching those communities falling for the same act several times.

Well, on the other hand you've got the Lord of the Rings trilogy, in which CGI was used to some its best potential in service of telling an epic story.

That is fascinating. At least they're not killing people like the firefighter/arsonists and nurses who cause patients to code so they can save them.
The interesting thing about the Union Carbide disaster is the same thing happened here, I think in West Virginia. But because of the weather conditions (I can't remember the details) the cloud of toxic chemicals either floated off or dissipated and nobody was hurt.
My immediate concern is reversing the prospects of the folks trying to program our country to BE Marxist lite, redistributionist, class warfare based as President Obama clearly intends to do.

Master and Commander vs. Star Wars EPIII Revenge of the Sith for best special effects
IMHO Master and Commander had much better effects because you couldn't really tell where the effects and real filming blended.

I still make music...not (c)rap...is that your idea of creative?
I couldn't load the link, but I can offer the opinion that the internet does not make people crazy, it just allows crazies to coordinate more; along with the rest of the twits.
This rarely diagnosed but often claimed disorder is a mild form of Autism that comes with what seems to be a biological inability to show empathy for other human beings, as well as (and maybe stemming from) an inability to recognize nonverbal cues. They continually do weird, upsetting things because they don't know it's upsetting you. That part of their brain is broken.
People cringe when they hear this term because they know that a large number of the teenagers claiming Asperger's are, in fact, merely dicks.
The Internet Troll exists because there's no real consequences to their actions. Sure they get blocked and called an asshole but there's no one that's going to tear them away from their computer and curb stomp them. Only the really obnoxious (or extremely drunk) would say such things in public to a person or persons that just might be the embodiment of the troll's demise. OK, these examples of retribution are on the extreme. Yes, I wouldn't be surprised that a few have been arrested for their behavior on the Internet. The army of anonymity is vast and acts like terrorist cells and lone wolfs. It's too bad that most Internet forms don't have higher standards of self policing. Which is why I come to LGF, Charles and Stinky run a tight ship.

Yesterday I attended the swearing in of two (2) GOP city council members in a highly diverse, all democrat town of Alexandria, VA.
Dems tried to disqualify the black female GOP candidate's win! But we prevailed.
We gotta start somewhere, making electoral headway into the headwinds to prepare the groundwork for November 2009's governor races, then big Congressional change in 2010. We gotta keep hope alive because many staunch democrats are beginning to notice the President's promises aren't working as promised.

Actually one of the weirdos at the stalker site fit the Munchhausen by Internet profile perfectly. Always some police situation going on in right in front of him. Always some violent thing he just saw happen or was about to happen. One BS story after another. He was a creep. But someone would always bite and give him his much needed attention.
Oh no question that youtube is great! We're talking about the commenters there. They're often subliterate and extremely mean. It's very strange.
I've never read the comments...I use it for the music vids exclusively and it is one hell of a resource for that...granted it's probably a very small % of the stuff posted there...lunatics and creepy people are all over the net...I simply disregard all of it

Great quote in the comments on the article Kragar linked to:
"we are removed from the feeling that this is real on screen- the characters and effects are 100% CGI, the backgrounds are 100% CGI (even things like frickin SUNSETS...does a sunset REALLY NEED TO BE CGI...Do SUNSETS NO LONGER EXIST IN OUR WORLD? Is there NO QUALIFIED CINEMATOGRAPHER in Hollywood that can have actors stand there while a REAL sunset is being filmed? ... This is where the overuse of CGI has gotten us...things that COULD BE FILMED IN THE REAL WORLD- ARENT- because it is more "convenient" for the director to have things he SHOULD have filmed just "fixed in post using CGI""

Senate aides said the penalties would be modeled on the approach taken by Massachusetts, which now imposes a fine of about $1,000 a year on individuals who refuse to get coverage. Under the federal legislation, families would pay higher penalties than individuals.
Is Massachusettes going bankrupt since its health coverage bill went into operation?

Good point. There must be a market for someone to come up with a set of 'emchaticons' (the ugliness of that neologism is deliberate btw) that allows youtube posters to circumvent normal language altogether.
Ousted President Manuel Zelaya of Honduras continued to build support yesterday for his return home, but the country’s de facto rulers said he would be arrested the minute he set foot on national territory.
As Zelaya addressed a supportive UN audience in New York, Hondurans in Tegucigalpa were demonstrating against and, in smaller numbers, in favor of the deposed leftist leader. Zelaya was flown to Costa Rica in exile early Sunday after soldiers removed him from his home.
Honduran Attorney General Luis Alberto Rubi, who clashed frequently with Zelaya, said arrest warrants had been issued accusing Zelaya of 18 crimes, including treason and abuse of authority. Rubi said authorities would ask Interpol to detain Zelaya, who has said he plans to return to Honduras tomorrow with a delegation of regional heads of state and other officials.
“The justice tribunals of my country have issued orders to capture [Zelaya] because he broke laws,’’ said Roberto Micheletti, the former head of Congress who legislators chose to replace Zelaya after the army deposed him.
Ousted Honduras President Manuel Zelaya made a "wise" decision to postpone his return to his country, a senior Obama administration official said on Wednesday.
The official said it was important that the Organization of American States be given an opportunity to attempt to find a diplomatic solution to the problem in Honduras before Zelaya tries to return to his country.
Oh no question that youtube is great! We're talking about the commenters there. They're often subliterate and extremely mean. It's very strange.
The only time I ever commented there was trying to explain the difference between nonfiction and a novel. You would have thought I was posting in Urdu for all the comprehension. Goddamn public schools.
Actually one of the weirdos at the stalker site fit the Munchhausen by Internet profile perfectly.
The evening of the DC Metro collision some doofus at the stalker site who claimed to be a DC resident was telling how the entire Metro system was shut down (wrong), how there had to be hundreds of casualties because at rush hour the train would be full (wrong), and how everyone in the DC area uses the Metro (wrong, wrong, wrong.) It went beyond being misinformed. I got the feeling he lived in Cleveland.
Charles,
An man is judge by his enemies.
Be proud that those that hate you are evil.
It says you're good!
This was said by a man who fits many of the descriptors in the article Charles linked. He started by saying one thing nice and then turned when Charles rightly turned the spotlight on exposing the nefarious fascist folks in Europe who we thought were our allies.

Participation in Internet forums such as this is the perfect outlet for the baby boomer (been there done that) population. Baby boomers are too old to go out much anymore so they stay at home and, with the little creativity still left in their blood, contribute to Internet forums such as LGF. This is not a critique. It's just a fact.
I guess you just dropped by to post a really stupid comment...it's just a fact.

HAHAHAHAHA.
President was literally suckled on marxism, assuming he was breast fed in Hawaii, Kenya or wherever else his bigamist baby daddy dragged Obama's mother around.
Dr. Mehdi Khazali, the son of a prominent conservative pro-Ahmadinejad ayatollah, wrote on his Web site earlier this year that the president - a Holocaust denier and relentless critic of Israel - was of partially Jewish origin, asserting that Ahmadinejad had changed his family name from Saburjian.
Dr Khazali is being detained by the authorities after he was arrested along with 150 university students earlier this week.

The Senate Health Education, Labor and Pensions bill also calls for a government-run insurance option to compete with private plans as well as a $750-per-worker annual fee on larger companies that do not offer coverage to employees.
Perhaps it's the alcohol swimming around my brain, but why would "larger companies" need to offer coverage if there's a government-run insurance option? And if I'm the CEO of a "large company," why wouldn't I pick the shittiest plan available to encourage my employees to choose the "better" government option, thus saving my company money?
if you have enough benjamins off-the-record access to "those powerful few" — Obama administration officials, members of Congress, and even the paper’s own reporters and editors.

The ones we do have are working overtime. I especially hate textspeak. I use LOL, IMHO and the like, but I can actually spell "your" (and I know the difference between that and "you're"). Believe it or not, my kids all text in full sentences with punctuation. They were all terrible spellers as children, but when chat came along they were embarrassed by their poor skills and learned to do better. It carried over into texting.
You must be in the drought area. My daughter is near Bastrop. The trees are begging her dogs to visit.
Northwest of Houston. Not an official drought yet, but dry and hot as Hell. We now have watering restrictions (yay!), but my yard was already taking it in the cojones.

Presumably for the same reason CEO's don't already offer the crappiest plan possible: if you want to entice and keep good employees, the health care plan is one of the ways to do it.
So if you're CEO of a large company offering a shitty plan, you'll actually lose money and employees to companies that offer better plans.

Unemployment is at 9.5%. Basically if you include the un-documented unemployed it's well over 10 percent. Double digit inflation. Yet the buffoon goes out and touts "green jobs" yet again. What green jobs? Working at a landfill?

We haven't seen the bill yet. Perhaps there will be a clause in there to prohibit just such actions on the part of CEO's.
Good point. There must be a market for someone to come up with a set of 'emchaticons' (the ugliness of that neologism is deliberate btw) that allows youtube posters to circumvent normal language altogether.
Whoever invents that would make a fortune. They're already mostly communicating via text speak and lolcats anyway over there.

That might work in decent economic times but, this ain't that.
These people are nuts to think they can mess with health care coverage in such a huge way and still have consistent services at the end of the meddling.
ROFLLL
so, pharm companies will finally have to stop giving government money?

I don't actually have such a big problem with that sort of use of cgi - as long as it looks good. And that's usually down to the quality of the art direction more than anything else.
A couple of great examples of recent cgi use, for me, are Cloverfield, and War of the Worlds. They were pretty much without fault. A bad example - Scorpion King - The Mummy Returns - especially the bit with the cgi version of "The Rock".
During my job search, "Green Energy" jobs are few and far between. Though there are a plethora of Nursing and Medical Tech jobs in my area.
And did you notice how no one ever defines "green jobs?" I read an interesting article about people returning to community college to learn new skills. The colleges are responding by expanding their programs, and many are adding some sort of environmental engineering or technician program. But even the colleges admit there are no jobs and they have no idea what these people will be doing once they graduate. Nursing programs, OTOH, have long waiting lists - they can't get enough facilities and instructors to accommodate the interest level.

It just dawned on me that when this Administration refers to "Green Energy" it's signifies all of the money it's burned and will continue to burn in the coming years.

No, right here in Denver they trained about 60 workers on how to put weather stripping on windows and doors. They were trained using stimulus money. Of course, they have no jobs, but, they are trained.

Don't laugh but I read yesterday, perhaps in the DC Examiner, that undocumented workers here in the USA are asking their families in Mexico or other countries, to wire money BACK TO THE USA.
Yes, unemployed undocumented workers are asking 3rd world countries to send money to the USA.
Those businesses that wire money said it was the first time they could recall so called remittances being returned to the USA.

Except that there's currently no "free" government option to compete with private insurance.
And if you read the plan that the Kennedy crew has drafted, you'll see that the insurance plan that you've been promised you can keep must be a "qualified" plan pursuant to govenment mandate.

Back when companies actually fought over good employees. Now in the Obamaconomy prospective employees are going to have to come up with something good to offer the employers!
One reason for this attitude is that the Russians do not quite share Obama's sense of global priorities. For Obama, as for so much of the planet, global climate change is a serious and even urgent concern. But as the BBC poll found, this is not a priority for Russians, and neither is making peace between the Israelis and the Palestinians, another big agenda item for Obama and his allies.
A deeper reason for Russian skepticism of Obama, and of the Obama craze in general, goes to a core difference of temperament. Obama is prototypically American in his penchant for singing his political song in the key of optimism. For Russians, life tends to be lived in the bittersweet key of tragedy.
While the Russians are not gloomy pessimists -- they have a sardonic genius for finding a way to laugh through their tears -- they are skeptics on the distinctively American idea that history is all about progress. Experience, painful experience, has taught them otherwise.

That's what I'm afraid of. We are living in the age of globalization. There's nothing stopping "large companies" from packing up and leaving if the competitive environment becomes too rough.
Sounds right. Those are depression proof. Another being mortuary services.
Tomorrow I'll get the word if I might be starting a new job with an industrial pest control company. Hopefully, there's enough job security but since it's part commission I'm worried that businesses I may be servicing will close their doors.

That would make sense but then they'll turn around and tax you somewhere else. I know at least in my own case I wouldn't qualify for any exemption and wouldn't get away from the coming tax increases if they are successful.

You older boomers have all the stuff. I graduated from high school in the midst of the last recession, the one this one is soon to exceed. That's why I have sympathy for today's new graduates who are having such a tough time.

Used to hear that whining all the time a couple of years ago. Whining about the "baby boomers." Meanwhile they were sitting around their apartment getting stoned and drunk daily and their primary purpose in life was that and watching "American Idol" or downloading torrent files.

Then we're the same age - I guess I thought "old" in your nic meant older than me. I did all that stuff too, and so did my husband. We've been blessed in some ways, but every time we seem to get a little ahead financially, something happens and we're back at square one. I'm not blaming the older baby boomers or anyone else, but it's frustrating when you're working hard but you never seem to get ahead. And now the Democrats seem determined to take what little we have.
Well, I'll be gall durned, we must have missed this... an article on June 8th, 2009 says that there will be 600,000 jobs created this summer...
Obama Promises More Than 600,000 Stimulus Jobs...
I dare ANYONE, in the government or out of the government to show us ANY tracking of where the stimulus money has gone, and how it has directly effected job growth.
How about something simple. Company A got "x" amount of money and they hired "x" amount of new employees, Repeat.

Basic economics. Increase the demand without a concomitant increase in supply (and there's probably going to be a decrease in supply; who the hell will want to go to medical school when there are far more lucrative professions that don't require the cost and time commitment?), and prices rise.

Worked at Academy (sporting goods) through the rest of high school and on into college. No spring break, no Christmas break, etc.
Got a great break with a summer "internship" - $1200/mo.
Graduated and got a job offer and took it.
Put myself through graduate school at night when I realized I was not one of the "select" at that company.
Laid off in 1993, unemployed ten weeks, got an 11% raise in the new job, left in six months for another 10%...

Sounds like the way it used to be done. Or could be done. Funny how after they increased college aid that tuitions went up -- but that's a different story. I was getting 5.67 and drafting landing survey and was rather good at it.
Not to complain but these days kids want to graduate from college with a BA or BS and make over 35K with full bennies off the bat. Some do get that. It's been my experience that many aren't worth it since in the case of architecture they don't know their ass from their elbow regarding how to build an actual building. They are however well trained to create bullshit buildings to impress the art poser crowd.
One thing they don't get is the way of the school of hard knocks. Working your way up the ladder. Not anymore since they've been drilled into their heads that they are "all worthy" and all "empowered" even though they have a) yet to prove that or b) earn their way up the career ladder.
Imagine a barn full of drunks with a bar every fifteen feet.
True story. I lived in Houston during the Urban Cowboy era. Back in 1981, my new wife and I had a visitor we met during our honeymoon in the Cayman Islands. He stayed with us for a week and insisted on going to Gilley's and riding the bull. We tried to discourage him, but it didn't do any good.
We got him and proceeded to the bull...the bull ride operator was not a happy camper.
Yes, he is a foreigner.

900kg = 1985 lbs. 1 ton, general considered sufficient for a nuclear warhead.
Maybe the 4th in Seattle we'll have a real fireworks show!

Ironically, more financial aid. When students have access to more funds, including loans, the colleges realize they can jack up the price. Hey, someone has to pay for all those campus diversity officers.

You make me wanna cry, you make me wanna die
I love you, I love you , I love you , I love you, I love you.
Night Man
Every night you come into my room and pin me down with your strong arms
You pin me down down and I try to fight you
you come inside me and fill me up…
Just two men sharing the night
It might seem wrong but it’s just right
It’s just two men sharing each other
It’s just two men like loving brothers
One on top, and one on bottom
One inside, and one is out
One is screaming he’s so happy
The other’s screaming a passionate shout
It’s the Night Man
The feeling so wrong it’s right man
the feeling so wrong…
I can’t fight you man when you come inside me and pin me down your strong hands and I’ll become the Night….the passionate, passionate Night Man.
time is running short foe BO...the stimulus has not worked, his new bill is under fire...unemployment and inflation are on the rise...he's been slapped by the Iranians and has conversely butted in on the Honduras thing on the wrong side...he has to face down a very tough Putin next week, and he's committed deep into Afghanistan where there is danger of prolonged stalemate...his cred is slowly eroding...he is over exposing himself in the media yet has no answers for anything...everything he touches he fucks up and he has exposed himself as a laughable amateur...50-50 says the country will be calling for his head by the end of the year...
Somehow I think the marketplace is being manipulated in the favor of lawyers.
/in all fairness, you usually only need a lawyer a few times in life, you probably don't need insurance for that, you should see a doctor at least once a year, more frequently if and when you get sick
Ironically, more financial aid. When students have access to more funds, including loans, the colleges realize they can jack up the price. Hey, someone has to pay for all those campus diversity officers.
Plus they get to keep the more useless Professors in even more useless classes.
I have noticed that tuition has outpaced income over the past decades. I wonder why?
I always thought that the Sports programs when profitable were suppossed to help support the rest of the school?
Tuition, IMHO, has outpaced income because major Universities have decided they really aren't in the business of education or furthering of knowledge. They own stocks, international property and are generally in a not-for-profit business with an agenda. Nice job if you can get it.
Ask Jim in Virginia. I paid (max) $1800/semester, which was a damned fortune at the time. I lived off-campus though.
I think tuition alone is $36K/yr now, and you can add to that for room and board. (Well, OK, room and bucket ... the cuisine was never stellar).
Cost of living was less I'm sure. Lefties managed to drive the cost of living up as they always do. They also accomplished to raise the cost of housing. I know that it is true that tuition has gone up as college aid increased -- grants, loans, etc.
/in all fairness, you usually only need a lawyer a few times in life, you probably don't need insurance for that, you should see a doctor at least once a year, more frequently if and when you get sick
I don't know Killian. . . . I think, perhaps, there would be a lot more justice if lawyers were affordable.
Cog had his chance...He was banned once but Charles let him back because he brought an edge to the room...Which was cool.Charles is a fair man..
upon reinstatement he was cool for awhile...Then he just had to be a dickhead to everybody...
After a while it was obvious that Cog was going the way of the dinosaurs...
You reading this Cog? Dumbass...Charles gave you an inch and you took a mile..Dumbass...Need a sock puppet reg?
For pretending to be so smart.Cog you are so dumb...
I actually made a chronicle of Cog's second banning but I can't find it now.

If your daughter is in the market for a wonderful small liberal arts college in a small city in North Georgia, I can make a recommendation. My oldest daughter graduated with only $16K in debt. She got merit-based financial aid and we paid the rest, but sticker price is only around $24K for tuition.
There was some minor booing when he said that, but in the end, they just couldn't help loving him.

We're so sorry we're late to this thread. We would have read all the posts above, but - quite frankly - that would have only bored us, because we'd have had to pretend we cared about the opinions of everyone between post 1 and this - our first post.
We guess the point is - what was the purpose of the thread? We just don't quite understand why someone would have the presumption to post this kind of thing - do we dear? - (No, dear, of course not).
We mean, what's the point of all of this? Munchausen smunchausen, what's it all about? Anonymity on the Internet, really? We've always posted using our real names, Fred1023X$ and Ethel1178Pi1. How much clearer could we be?
The internet is simply another way for us to be as honest as we are in our day-to-day interactions with our fellow residents.
Hey, what are you doing? No, stop. I don't want to go to bed yet! Who are you? What are you doing? What's that in the little white paper cup? No, please...I don't want to take that. HHMMM! Not swallowing! Ha! Hey, don't do that! Stop massaging my throat. I'm not gonna swallow ...
Hello, my name is Phillip. I'm so sorry that subsailor stayed up so long after his bedtime. Please rest assured that he's fine, sleeping like a baby, and will be much better in the morning. Please excuse me, but it's time to get back to my rounds here at Shady Crack.
Seattle is reeling today 3 months after the devastating nuclear strike from North Korea. Authorities have raised the death toll to nearly 20,000. Another 100,000 were injured during the ensuing evacuations. Hospitals all along the West coast and as far East as Denver are overwhelmed. FEMA has no timetable on relocating the remaining 2.7 million people still trying to evacuate the hot zone.
No word from the white House yet on exactly what actions will be taken in response.

Lay it on me, but I am encouraging her interest in electrical engineering.
...my first job was dish washing at Carver's on the Lake... $1.15 per hour... followed by a job down at the marina pumping Ethel for $1.35...
...then... upon graduating high school... and no future in sight (ie. no help with college) I worked at Penney's for $2.54 per hour... for a year and a half...
(and my dad would tell me of working at Sears for 8-cents per hour...)
I simply refuse to believe BO will dodge having to face the citizens of this country and explain himself...the media will not ride a bad horse and when his numbers continue to fall they will have to cover their ass...GOP leadership absolutely must get going and win back the House next year...I'm at the edge...I have been fucked around long enough by the feds...if this mess shows no sign of getting cleaned up next year...if this phony hero worship nonsense does not stop. if BO gets a pass on his corrupt and harmful legislation, I'm gonna kiss off and head for the beach...I have one last fallback option...I do not want to live in BOs America...fuck that and fuck him

Weeks later.
The North Korean leadership has indicated that the nuclear strike was in error and has offered their apologies to the United States. We have word now that the president has accepted this apology (along with the Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi) from the North Koreans and that no military action will be taken due to this event.
Nice! Yeah, some people need to be reminded that smokers are footing the bill for SCHIP.
In the future everyone will use a biometric card to buy food. From your thumb print, the card will calculate your BMI and calculate what food you are allowed to buy.
Your BMI is 35? No beer and ice cream for you! No cheeseburgers! In fact your allotment of food is suspended for the next 5 days, except bottled water and vitamins for your fast.
Your BMI is 30? You can buy beer and ice cream but it's 30 minutes on the treadmill for each can of Bud Lite and each 1/2 cup of Ben & Jerry's or you can't buy any next time.
To say that Obama has met his match is to insult Vladimir Putin. Putin vs. Obama is a massive overmatch in Putin's favor, because Putin actually knows how the world works.

I think that's very plausible and can readily be done by an increasing Nanny State. It will be done "for the greater good" and of course pushed by the Socialist Democrat Party.

It's Berry College. If your daughter has an interest in engineering, however, by all means encourage her! I am trying to convince my younger daughter that Georgia Tech is the place to be. She won't even consider the engineering programs, though. Believe it or not, they have a liberal arts college. Even that has a technology slant, though, so I'm hopeful she would be employable if she goes there.
Saving money on college tuition --

2 years at University -- in your major.
It can be done in 4 years. Lots of tuition money saved.
Good evening y'all - I know I'm very late to this thread, but I must say I LOVED that article about how the Internet makes people crazy!
But I disagree with the premise - I think folks who fit into one or more of the crazy cases are in fact crazy as loons - and the Internet just gives them a way to express that craziness safely.
But other than that, what all are we talking about?

that's what I did, but I took a gap year - actually, 13 years - between community college and four-year college.
The last couple of days I've actually been watching non-CSPAN TV. Been seeing lots of ads for these guys. You know, I really find the company name disturbing.

re: #643 jcm Hey jcm! I sorta did the same thing - completed 2 years at a four year institution and was then invited by said institution to not return.
So I worked for two years, saved enough dough to go back to another 4 year school, got credit for one of the years I spent at the first school and took 3 years to finish. But I saved a bundle on that one years tuition!
...and later, after I finally made it into college... I would work summers for xxx combining peas... and my boss Orin xxx would drive around in his white Ford pick up truck... on Monday, his truck was clean. Each day would progress as he spat his "juice" from the driver's side window... Day one would be a few brown streaks... Day two several more... by Friday, his door would be brown...

Hi! The pills wore off and Phillip's in another part of the ward! Hope everyone is fine. Won't be here long, because I'm off to buy some very important things! I need some foodstuffs, some linens, some clothes, some new shoes, and I don't believe I should have to pay for any of them! That's why, when I'm in England, I shop at:
Marx and Spencer.
(Sigh. It's Phillip again. I came back and subsailor seems to be awake again. I'll give him another dose, and he should be fine for the rest of the night. If he shows up again, please feel free to taser his dumb a...well, you know what I mean.)

yup, decide early and stay focused...there is plenty you can do to improve job prospects before you even graduate...volunteer work, contacts to make...be smart...my daughter had several sweet job offers before she finished up
My first job was de-tasseling corn. It was hot and dirty work. The fields were infested with crawly things and humungous spiders.
I'm so glad I never de-tasseled corn. I heard horror stories about it. Although Cindy Crawford de-tasseled corn. Perhaps I missed something. I too could be tall and gorgeous, if only I'd detasseled corn.

This is why I went to school. At work today, I ran some tests on a storage system and covered a couple of minor technical issues with my customers. Then I had Japanese food for lunch, finished up, and went out for a beer. No spiders.

Okay guys, in all seriousness, I couldn't resist a couple of posts about internet disorders, but it truly is time for bed.
To all my friends here, please have a terrific Independence Day. Realwest, if you're still on board, may this be a wonderful holiday for you and your Mom!
Sometimes it's easy to look forward to a day of BBQ and fireworks, but I think I've found that the folks on this site are the ones who remember - more than many others - what this weekend really means.
As I said earlier, I also hope our lizard friends around the world will also, perhaps, take a moment - pour a glass - and celebrate our day with us.
re: #705 Dark_Falcon
Hey Dark_Falcon - um that was well done, but WTF made you decide to do the chronicles of Cognito? Or at least the Chronicles of Cognito's banning?
My first non-lawnmowing job was as a stockboy at a Pier One. They paid me 50¢ more per hour to be a sign-maker for the store, and as a result it was covered with elaborately lettered signs. Once I found out I could get money for drawing and lettering, that's what I stayed focused on.
...yeah... I think I seen an add for a Congito somewhere back in the '80's... It was a sleeping bag that you could crawl into and remain camoflaged... or something...
re: #714 subsailor68

Congito... sounds like he could have been a sidekick for Desi Arnez.
Now that's a silly question Mich! Everyone knows that old timey cars had cognitos to keep the pistons pumping - my Dad used to park his Ford Model A against a tree cause the cognitios were too hot and the engine wouldn't shut off.

Hey RW! Just logging off when I saw your post. Reading the Internet disorders Charles posted made me laugh, and couldn't resist doing a quick couple of posts by "someone" described in the post- just as a laugh. Hey! Don't ya be makin' fun of Phillip the overworked, underpaid orderly.
Oh yeah, made him up too!
All kidding aside, please have a wonderful 4th. Hope you and your Mom have someplace wonderful you're planning to go...and that the fireworks are the best ever!
They were talking about famous sports quotes today on the local radio channel and a caller pulled out one from New Jersey Devils' coach Jim Schoenfeld in 1988 to referee Don Koharski.

Seeing the cover of the LGF Cookbook, you have some awesome skillz.
re: #748 subsailor68
Why thanks sub! Actually we're gonna sit around and watch the fireworks on TV (I know, you get 30 seconds of fireworks, and the rest of the show is either panning the audience or listening to the talking heads until the next commercial, but it's hard for us to walk far or stand up for long - and mosquitoes love biting me more than anyone else!).
But we'll have a great 4th and I sure hope y'all do too!
Hey Dark_Falcon - um that was well done, but WTF made you decide to do the chronicles of Cognito? Or at least the Chronicles of Cognito's banning?
I felt that Cognito's last acts of foolishness should be chronicled as a warning to future contrarians and I wanted to express the sorrow I felt at losing him. He was often a jerk, but there were times I enjoyed having him around.
Magneto, Cognito whatever - still had to park the damn car against a tree until it stopped running! LOL!
Yeah, Magneto is correct, I was just playing around there my amigo!

We went to see the Detroit Symphony Orchestra play at Greenfield Village last night at the fireworks show there. The DSO was just awesome. Seen them a bunch of times and they always impress. The fireworks were just okay. But the cannons going off during the 1812 Overture made the whole show. That will be on the calender every year now.
It's clear why we're number #1: Charles is more obsessed about than any of the other categories. There are other blogs primarily dedicated to attacking him. He must be evil to generate the hate he receives, right?
re: #793 jcm
Hmmm. Well lets see: 3 wood would simply disallow the reimbursement of my expenses whereas Iron Fist might cause my untimely death.
I'll go with door One Alex!
I'd logged off, gone to bed, was sleeping soundly, dreaming of life in Elysian fields, puppies romping around me, kittens mewling in the lush green fields of Spring, a picnic spread across a red and white checkered blanket - replete with fresh-cut sandwiches of alder smoked salmon, cucumber, sweet home-made mayonnaise - a lone egret circling lazily in the sky, simply waiting with the patience only a predator can possibly muster, just prior to breaking the cool, still waters of the river in search of its prey...the small, sweet buzz of insects just hovering above the golden fields of wheat not quite ready for harvest, while my true love lolled by my side, looking into the bright blue, almost cloudless sky, lost in thought...
A copy of the US Declaration of Independence has been discovered in Britain.
The document, which is in perfect condition, is believed to be one of only 200 printed and was stumbled upon among files at the National Archives in Kew, southwest London, by an American doing research.
Printed on July 4, 1776, it brings the total of known surviving copies worldwide to 26. The first official printings of the Declaration are known as Dunlaps: the name of the printer, John Dunlap, is given on each copy. This manuscript was hidden among correspondence from American colonists intercepted by the British in the 18th century.
In 2000 a Dunlap print that had been found at a flea market in 1989 fetched $8.14 million at auction.

Get too close to the Burning Man fire and you assume the “obvious and inherent” risk of being burned, a California appeals court has ruled in dismissing a personal injury lawsuit against the operators of the iconic countercultural arts festival.
The burning of a 60-foot wooden sculpture in the figure of a man is the centerpiece of the Burning Man festival in the Black Rock Desert of Nevada. When the sculpture topples to the ground, revelers are allowed to toss tokens, mementos and other objects into the remnants of the sculpture.
Anthony Beninati sued the festival organizers, Black Rock City LLC, for negligence after he tripped and fell into the fire at the 2005 Burning Man, badly burning both his hands. He argued that the doctrine of primary assumption of risk does not apply to a “low-impact” cultural activity such as Burning Man, being limited to rule-based or, at least, active sports.

Goodnight folks and I will see y'all back here Sunday evening. Going over to my youngest bros house for the 4th. Y'all have fun, do all that 4th of July stuff and hoist one to our troops and their families and maybe a thought or prayer directed their way too would not come amiss. Thanks friends and enjoy your weekend!

HEY NOAM! I wish I could help you out with the marinade and I got nothing on guns tonight, either!
But other than that, lemme know if y'all need any help.
Even if your state, with lots of help from ACORN, just elected Al Franken - AL FUCKING FRANKEN to the US Senate!
Americans who refuse to buy affordable medical coverage could be hit with fines of more than $1,000 under a health care overhaul bill unveiled Thursday by key Senate Democrats looking to fulfill President Barack Obama's top domestic priority.
The Congressional Budget Office estimated the fines will raise around $36 billion over 10 years. Senate aides said the penalties would be modeled on the approach taken by Massachusetts, which now imposes a fine of about $1,000 a year on individuals who refuse to get coverage. Under the federal legislation, families would pay higher penalties than individuals.
In a revamped health care system envisioned by lawmakers, people would be required to carry health insurance just like motorists must get auto coverage now. The government would provide subsidies for the poor and many middle-class families, but those who still refuse to sign up would face penalties...
Goodnight all; have a good Fourth of July weekend. Here's a thought from Michael Ledeen at The Corner:
It's always a bit difficult not to be sappy about the Fourth, which I insist on calling The Birthday of the Modern World. But a reader sent me a letter that contains two great paragraphs:
Long before the modern rationalizations for the "benign" nanny state, Confucius had given his own vision of the perfectly ordered pyramid with the emperor at the top, talking to God, and most of the rest of us at the bottom, lucky for the privilege to talk to their dog.
The bulk of human experience is tyranny, whereas liberty is the ultimate unprobability, a.k.a., America. Government of the people, for the people, by the people cannot survive unless the people has enough intestinal fortitude to make it work.

you're going to have to deal with it, just like the Minnesota electorate/2 +312.

Yeah, that one sucked. Hopefully, ol' Al will be such a buffoon on the floor of the Senate (likely), the dumbasses who voted for him will get a little more serious about who they vote for next time around.

WA '04 First count Rossi by 261.
By the third recount they "found" enough ballots to put Gregoire over the top by 136.
Some of the same actors in that recount went to MN to help Franken.
It's a bad bill. Let's make sure it goes down in flames.
Hope so. I can't afford either in this economy. Insurance would be about 400 a month in my case. I am barely making it. Of course the moronic Democrats don't take the economy into consideration in any of their decisions since they have failed to grasp the concept of a free-market economy.
Let's see, should I make my insurance payment or pay the fine? If I pay the fine, I won't have the money to make my insurance payment, and if I don't pay the fine, I'll wind up with late fees, on my insurance and the fine...
Well, it got hotter than hell again today. Our two day reprieve of days in the low 90's was replaced by a solid 103 today. Here's a Richard Pryor bit. Sweet!
Oh, for pity's sake!
They are going to take away the ability of people to make their own decisions about how they want to spend (or not spend) their very own money.
I have a brother who is a long-time drug addict - crack and vicodin are his drugs of choice, lately.
Needless to say, he has all sorts of health problems, going back for years.
He has no medical insurance. He "can't afford" it. He whines about how the government should "provide" for people who "can't afford" health insurance.
Somehow, though, he manages to "afford" to buy his drugs. And those habits are much more expensive than medical insurance would cost him.
He has decided how he is going to spend his money. And he has decided not to take care of himself. I have to tell you, I will resent like hell anything I have to pay in increased taxes so that he can have medical coverage without having to pay for it himself.
you're going to have to deal with it, just like the Minnesota electorate/2 +312.
/Norm was up 700 on election day, good thing ACORN SOS Ritchie and his Bonkey cast of characters found an even number 1000 votes during the recount, can't be too sure when you're stealing a Senate seat
it's a disgrace...the govt is running amok and nobody does a thing about it...there is no voter security, no independent mechanism to prevent this third world shit...ACORN is worth billions, purely a criminal enterprise and our president loves it to pieces...I'm lost
Well y'all it's been fun, but I have to go to sleep now.
For all of y'all who won't be on LGF tomorrow or the Fourth, please take just a little time to reflect on how fortunate we are to be Americans. How truly blessed we were to have the Founding Fathers that we had.
To paraphrase John F. Kennedy (addressing a room full of Nobel Laureates at a White House Dinner) "There has probably never been such an enormous amount of intellect and talent ever at a White House dinner before this.
Except, of course, when Thomas Jefferson ate dinner here alone."
I do hope you all have a great evening/early morning and that I get the chance to see you all down the road.
/gotta vote some indisputable separation or it'll happen again
While back I looked at a lot of these close races.
In every case ostensibly conservatives who voted 3rd party if a small percentage had vote (R) the outcome would have been different.
The (R) party doesn't need to move to middle. It needs simply to capture a larger section of the conservative / libertarian / classically liberal vote.
Oh, for pity's sake!

The only thing I can think about regarding the Democrats is: it's the economy stupid. I can't very well come up with an extra 400 dollars a month with the state that things are in now and the worsening future under control by these dimwits.

It is the manners and spirit of a people which preserve a republic in vigor. A degeneracy in these is a canker which soon eats to the heart of its laws and constitution.

You seem to be saying that ACORN was responsible for Franken's win. Any link to that? And ACORN is worth billions? Really? Most community organizers I know of work for something just above minimum wage (which is what got ACORN in trouble in the first place on its voter registration drives). Don't get me wrong, I think the collection of voter names by ACORN was atrocious, but the fact is that the Registrars in the various States caught the bullshit. There is no hard evidence that ACORN's actions resulted in widespread voter fraud.
OK, I know that this goes against perceived fact, so I will just duck now.
I suppose you all are having home grown arugula and radishes under a fluorescent bulb, with a bit of farm raised tilapia grilled on a solar stove like Mr. and Misses O for the Fourth?

ACORN has been involved with fraud before, and I'm of the "Where there's smoke, there's fire" school of thinking. As for how much there're worth, there is no clear way to say with the amount of cash they take in a disperse.

I'm thinking the feds gave them a few billion to operate with the mega spending bill this spring...I'm not saying or even implying ACORN had anything to do with Franken...ACORN is dirty, it's a bad idea and part of the larger problem...there can be a better way to get voters ID'd and registered

Actually I am having all American Baby Back Ribs with a tomato based BBQ sauce, beef ribs with dry rub, Teriyaki boneless beef rib cuts, chicken and apple sausage from La., simmered baked beans in ham hocks, white rice, potato crab salad, cole slaw, sweet corn, then a bit of beer. I am in charge, and i don't do arugual.

I would love to see the amount of money that ACORN has actually received from the Feds. Billions? Any hard numbers out there? Seems that ACORN has become the equivalent of Karl Rove for the hard right. Silly when the Dem's laid it on Karl, silly when the R's do it now. Just sayin'.

Over 30,000 Muslims from all over the country are set to converge on the DC Convention Center over Fourth of July weekend.
The 46th Annual Convention of The Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) promises to be one of the most memorable with such a diverse array of offerings that any attendant is sure to find something enjoyable. In addition to ISNA's full lineup of sessions, the Muslim Students Association and the Muslim Youth of North America will conduct programming specific to their membership concurrent to ISNA's programming as well.
When tens of thousands of Muslims gather this weekend for the annual Islamic Society of North American (ISNA) convention, they will not only be taking part in community events, but also celebrating America's birthday.
"This year’s theme is one that we cherish as Muslims in America," Sayyid M. Syeed, ISNA National Director for Interfaith and Community Outreach, told IslamOnline.net.
More than 40,000 Muslims from across the US and Canada are expected to attend the 46th ISNA convention, themed Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness, on July 3-6.
...only six?
Seriously, this ought to be funny, but it's way too accurate. It might aspire to satire, but that's not possible...because while satire requires a grain of honesty at its core, this thing is the freakin' gospel truth.
Acorn became among the most successful at exploiting the law, especially after the Clinton administration set up tough new CRA standards. In 1993 Acorn crafted a $55 million, 11-city lending program administered by it and financed by 14 major banks eager to avoid CRA woes. In 1998 Acorn activists disrupted Federal Reserve hearings on the proposed Citicorp merger with Travelers, waving red umbrellas, a corporate symbol of Travelers, and then later protested Citigroup's acquisition of Associates First Capital Corp. Eventually Citigroup signed an agreement to provide mortgages through Acorn counseling centers, including home loans to undocumented aliens in California. In 2000 a U.S. Senate subcommittee estimated that such CRA deals had directed at least $9.5 billion through nonprofits, making the CRA the second-most important funder of social advocacy groups next to the government itself.
While Acorn now operates in more than 100 cities with a national budget of $37 million, it never truly left behind the welfare-rights mentality.
What's undeniable is ACORN is playing with real money, yet it's hard to find out exactly how much they are playing with and who's giving them what. There is no doubt they are getting dough from the US government, and I would be incredulous to if anybody tried to tell me that Barack Obama would not give them any money or less than George Bush or the Republicans did, being a lawyer for them and supportive of their causes by his own politics.
You referring to me? Nope. Please click the nic. Just a Texas Dem. Which, if you haven't been following the evolution wars down here, is semantically equal to sane.

Not really. It means you probably voted for Obama, which is a bigger act of insanity than creationism.

there are no hard numbers out there, but if you believe that ACORN will not tap federal fund one way or another you are naive...it's not a far right thing at all

In 2003 ACORN submitted 5,379 voter-registration cards to St. Louis, Missouri election-board officials, who later determined that only 2,013 of the cards appeared to be valid.
In 2006 approximately 20,000 questionable voter-registration forms were turned in by ACORN officials in Missouri -- virtually all in the St. Louis and Kansas City areas, where ACORN professed a commitment to empowering the "disenfranchised" minorities living there.
Between March 23 and October 1, 2008, ACORN and other "get-out-the-vote" groups submitted at least 252,595 registrations to the Philadelphia County Election Board; of those, 57,435 were rejected for faulty information. Most of the fraudulent forms -- which featured fake social security numbers, incorrect birthdates, forged or duplicate signatures, and non-existent addresses -- were submitted by ACORN.
In Centre County, Pennsylvania -- the home of Penn State University and its 40,000 students -- former state Supreme Court Justice Sandra Newman complained in 2008 about a "massive effort" to fraudulently register those students. "I am not confident we can get a fair election," Newman said.
In Erie County, Pennsylvania in 2008, students at local colleges were targeted in "student registration drives" designed to register voters multiple times. The county's director of elections reported that the "same handwriting" appeared on a large number of applications.
In October 2008, Philadelphia's City Commissioners voted unanimously to present to the U.S. Attorney some 50,663 fraudulent voter-registration forms submitted by ACORN. These included 35,888 duplicates; 689 that were filled out by people too young to vote; 2,108 with missing signatures; 5,093 with phony addresses; and 6,161 not eligible because they were missing a valid HAVA (Help America Vote Act) number.
In 2004 a Florida Department of Law Enforcement spokesman said that ACORN had been "singled out" among suspected voter-registration groups as "the common thread" in the agency's statewide fraud investigations.
In 2004 Mark Wilson, vice president of the Florida Chamber of Commerce, said that efforts to register felons and to submit fraudulent voter-registration forms were "so widespread" that "t just seems to be a systemic approach to take advantage of our lax registration laws."
Among the 1,320 voter-registration forms that ACORN filed in Brevard County, Florida in 2008, fully two-thirds contained the names of people who had been previously registered. One Miami individual in particular filled out 21 duplicate applications.
In 2008 in Indianapolis (where ACORN was very active), the number of registered voters exceeded the official population of voting-age adults by 33,204.
In Lake County, Indiana, ACORN submitted 5,000 voter-registration applications in early October 2008. Of the first 2,100 that were analyzed by election officials, every single one was fraudulent. "All the signatures looked exactly the same," said Republican election official Ruthann Hoagland. "Everything on the card filled out looks exactly the same." Hoagland's Democratic colleague, Sally LaSota, concurred: "We're not handwriting experts, but what's obvious is obvious." The fake registrants included dead people and under-age children.
I knew someone would link an old tape. Queen wasn't playing with the great (miss him tons) Mr. Mercury. They hotfooted it to Nokia Center to play with Adam. Past is prologue.
In Jackson County, Missouri in 2008, election supervisor Charlene Davis told reporters that her office had discovered some 800 fraudulent forms filed by ACORN.
In 2004 the voter rolls in St. Louis, Missouri included 1,452 people registered at vacant lots; 2,242 felons; 4,405 dead people; and 15,953 who were also registered elsewhere in Missouri or, in some cases, in another state.
In 2008 in St. Louis, where at least eight ACORN workers had previously pleaded guilty to fraud, at least 60 ballots were cast by voters using the identities of dead people.
In 2008 St. Louis election officials, suspicious of many of the voter-registration applications submitted by ACORN, sent letters to some 5,000 ACORN registrants citywide, asking the recipients to contact the election board. Fewer than 40 reponded.
In 2008 in Kansas City, Missouri (where four ACORN employees had been indicted for fraud a year earlier), approximately 15,000 registrations were judged to be questionable.
Two years earlier in Kansas City, 40 percent of the 35,000 registrations submitted by ACORN were fraudulent.
In October 2008 in Las Vegas, Nevada, the FBI raided ACORN's offices after reports surfaced that the organization had fraudulently registered a number of new "voters" with fictitious names.
In 2008 in Clark County, Nevada, registrar of voters Larry Lomax told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that ACORN was submitting 2,000 to 3,000 fraudulent applications per week.
In late 2008, Nevada criminal investigator Colin Hayes of the Secretary of State's office said that 59 prison inmates had worked for ACORN from early March through late July of that year. According to the Las Vegas Sun, "One ex-employee of ACORN, Jason Anderson, rose to the rank of a supervisor in the voter registration program although he was a convicted felon and an inmate at Casa Grande at the time."
In 2004, New Mexico state representative Joe Thompson accused ACORN of "manufacturing voters" throughout his state. The following year, ACORN employees forged thousands of signatures in a campaign to put a wage initiative on the ballot in Albuquerque.
In Seattle, Washington in 2007, ACORN workers filled out 1,805 registration forms with phony names, addresses, and Social Security numbers. Of the 1,805 applications, only 9 were confirmed to be valid. Washington secretary of state Sam Reed called it the "worst case of voter-registration fraud in the history" of the state.
That same year, seven ACORN workers in Washington were indicted for having submitted nearly 3,400 fraudulent forms in King and Pierce Counties. Three of the suspects eventually pled guilty and ACORN was ordered to pay a $25,000 fine.
In Oakland County, Michigan in 2008, election officials discovered more than 33,000 duplicate voter-registration applications, most of which had been submitted by ACORN workers.
Between January and October 2008 in North Carolina, where ACORN was particularly active, the number of newly registered Democrats exceeded newly registered Republicans by 218,749 to 38,337. This imbalance was evident even in the Charlotte-area county, where in previous election years new Republicans had consistently outnumbered new Democrats by a 2-to-1 margin. One ACORN worker in Charlotte was found to have forged approximately 70 registrations.
I knew someone would link an old tape. Queen wasn't playing with the great (miss him tons) Mr. Mercury. They hotfooted it to Nokia Center to play with Adam. Past is prologue.
I don't like ACORNS politics, I don't like their tactics, I don't like their record of dubious legality and I strongly object to ANY partisan political organization receiving federal funds. Having said all of that, I'm not obsessed with them. I don't do derangement syndromes.
I personally know a handful and have knowledge of a few dozen more college students in Little Rock AR who have been recruited by ACORN to go door-to-door at the rate of $10 an hour, 8 hours a day, to solicit personally written letters supporting the Employee Free Choice Act. Letters are specifically directed to Senator Blanche Lincoln, a conservative Dem who is not supporting this bill. Where is this money coming from? ACORN pays them directly. Are these tax-payer dollars, government money? Aren't you curious, Austin Blue? I am.
Did you guys see Jaun Williams on the Cap and Trade Bill mandating a Federal Energy Audit and Inspection of your home before you can sell it? He was not happy. Wondering if the Dems have lost their minds. Fourth Amendement out the fucking window like a piece of trash. Contracts clause? What is that? Penumbra of the Ninth Amendment? Not when we are in charge. Crazy people.
In 2004 ACORN and its affiliate, Project Vote, submitted a large number of voter-registration cards to the election board in Cuyahoga County, Ohio (which is part of greater Cleveland). These cards had a 15-percent error rate (i.e., mistaken names, addresses, birth dates, etc.) -- higher than the corresponding rate among cards filed by any other group.
That same year, the Franklin County, Ohio board of election supervisors said that ACORN and Project Vote had submitted hundreds of "blatantly false" forms.
According to the Wall Street Journal: "During a congressional hearing in Ohio in the aftermath of the 2004 election, officials from several counties in the state explained ACORN's practice of dumping thousands of registration forms in their lap on the submission deadline, even though the forms had been collected months earlier." Reflecting on that practice, Thor Hearne of the American Center for Voting Rights remarked, "You have to wonder what's the point of that, if not to overwhelm the system and get phony registrations on the voter rolls."
In 2008 the Cuyahoga County board of elections openly accused ACORN of fraud.
In 2008, approximately 8,000 of the 72,000 new applications submitted by ACORN in Ohio appeared to be fraudulent.
In 2004 in Colorado, ACORN filed hundreds of suspicious voter-registration forms in at least four Denver metro-area counties.

I don't exactly think about them every day. But I don't think bringing them up or pointing out their vile history amounts to a "derangement syndrome."
Probably not. It's freaking almost 70 bucks. I'd love to see Adam, and Kris and Allison are really good too (especially Allison Iraheta, who has a gorgeous smoky rock voice, is cute as a button, and is still under-age and a total little ball of fire), but I don't think I can sit through Gokey and what not. Expecially not Gokey, who is imho a homophobic troll.

Yup. Warts and all. And if you think voting for Obama is worse than believing in Creationism, I must ask, why? I mean, one is a political decision based on the qualities of the two candidates, the other is delusion. I suppose that I might have been deluded into voting for what I perceived to be the better candidate to lead our country for four years, given the option of McCain, but really, I made the choice eyes wide open and not driven by religious ideology.

From ACORN's own website:
Does ACORN Recieve Federal Funding?
The Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now does not apply for nor does it receive any federal grants.
ACORN has had contracts with other nonprofit organizations to perform work on projects which received federal grant support. For example, ACORN has received contracts to:
* Identify families eligible to receive food stamps and assist them to apply.
* Identify homeowners facing foreclosure and deliver them for housing counseling and loss mitigation services.
* Provide lead paint remediation services to households with children living in older neighborhoods.
The contracts that ACORN receives on these projects are for delivering specific activities, all of which are tax-exempt qualified in accordance with federal grant guidelines. No payments are received until work product has been delivered. None of ACORN's contracts to perform work on projects receiving federal grant money has provided funding for voter registration.
Interesting. ACORN says they don't receive any federal funding but advocates or 'delivers' federal funding through programs. The dough doesn't pass through their hands, but ACORN clearly and unequivacably influences federal funding in a community organizing association.
ACORN receives funding from some private sources, spends the money on pursuing more federal funding, and hires people to advocate for those causes for little or no pay or on a volunteer basis.
Though they may not receive a dime in funds, they are influencing the funding of many federal programs. The question is, how much and what programs. I'd like to know.

Thank you. My point exactly. When you pay minimum wage to idiots to collect voter registrations, you get a tremendous amount of crap, none of which passed muster with the Registrars of the various States and none of whom actually voted.
I was gonna post that but it seemed inconclusive...Soros gives them an allowance, I'd bet my life on it...moving illicit funds around is so easy, a caveman can do it

Creationism, if not forced on others, is relatively harmless, though it is still utterly wrong. Voting for Obama was a act that, because it was done by too many people, threatens to do irrevocable damage to our nation. Obama is a disaster, and you should have known he would be.
Thank you. My point exactly. When you pay minimum wage to idiots to collect voter registrations, you get a tremendous amount of crap, none of which passed muster with the Registrars of the various States and none of whom actually voted.

Look at the way people view Obama, and tell me it's any different than a religious ideology. The man-child as been called "God", for heaven's sake. Videos were made with celebrities praying. A song was written with the lyric, "Barack Obama, be thy name". People had their children singing about him.
At least religious people know the difference between Obama and God.

Thank you. My point exactly. When you pay minimum wage to idiots to collect voter registrations, you get a tremendous amount of crap, none of which passed muster with the Registrars of the various States and none of whom actually voted.
That is kind of like going before the judge and arguing: "Your Honor, my clients are not criminals, they are morons."
what a laugher!...no delusion with BO, nope...liberals are fucking delusional...did you just fall off the banana boat?
For me, it's all about public policy. I disagreed with the direction that the R's were taking us. So I voted for Obama. It's not an all out war for me. I just wanted some balance in the Social Contract, the basis of the Constitution, which I thought was swinging too far to the right. Chances are that we agree on numerous issues.
When you think of 'green jobs', remember a guy caulking windows is a green job...yeah, that's the ticket. Obama will fail because he's trying to pound a square hole into a peg.
I was gonna post that but it seemed inconclusive...Soros gives them an allowance...
It's conclusive in that ACORN states that they advocate or influence funding for various and sundry causes, thought the actual dollars don't flow through their hands.
I think it's a tad disingenuous to say that they don't get any funding, though technically they may not. It's similar to saying "I didn't buy any drugs" though you brought your friend over to the drug house to buy drugs, then your friend bought the drugs.

don't come any closer please...voting for BO indicates astounding disconnect from reality...it's contagious...for me it is an all out war
Neither McCain nor Obama know anything about economics. McCain was honest about it. Obama went the smoke, mirrors, and bullshit route.
One could only hope that a sort of anti-Michael Moore comes out with a documentary in about a year outlining all the Obama bullshit America has been fed.

"Balance in the Social Contract"? What are you smoking, and where can I get a supply to sell? Obama does not bring balance to the social contract he plans to upend it with his nationalization of health care, ACORN voter fraud, and productivity punishing taxes. Your words are foolish. Period.
Creationism, if not forced on others, is relatively harmless, though it is still utterly wrong. Voting for Obama was a act that, because it was done by too many people, threatens to do irrevocable damage to our nation. Obama is a disaster, and you should have known he would be.
Maybe. But Creationism *is* being forced on others by its proponents.
As for Obama's policies, we will just have to wait and see. Claiming at this point that they are an *EPIC FAIL* is silly. We just don't know yet. Maybe yes, maybe no.

iwishiwishiwish.
I know what you mean but I'm not holding my breath. Ziegler might do one but it will be rejected knee-jerk by its target audience because of who he is.

Yeah. A Chicago mistake.
No officer that 50 just stuck to my license.
That check I sent had some extra zeros and was made out to your son by mistake, I'll have my secretary take care of it at once.
We accidentally knocked down your building. We meant to demolish a similar building with a similar address. Did you know your garbage bill is 5 years in arrears?

I'm puzzled by this statement. On fiscal issues, R's were actually swinging to the left. On security issues, holding strong, although not perfect. Where was this swinging too far to the right?

You're fookin' kiddin' right?
Obama's policies are being crammed up America's ass. No lube. Socialism here we come. Triple down on the deficit without blinking an eye.
"We just dont know yet" whether his policies will fail? Are you kidding? Open your eyes. Take a guess.

1. I've always opposed forcing creationism in schools. I referring to the belief itself, not the actions of its adherents.
2. How can you not say Obama is a failure? How could these policies of his succeed?
This is what our Constitution is based on. This is what drove the Founders. This is what was revolutionary about the American experiment. It is the balance of these forces that we have been arguing about since 1786. It is purely secular.

When you drink some milk and find it is sour, do you put it back in the fridge and then try it again the next day? No. So why do you think that President Obama's epic fail economic policies - which have ALWAYS FAILED when tried by others in the past, will have a change to succeed now?

Tax policy in a time of war. Lack of regulatory oversight in banking and finance (Lots of blame on both sides of the aisle on the latter, but McCain was too laissez faire. The problem wasn't going to fix itself.)

Obviously, you didn't watch the video Killian posted.
What the hell do you think happens when you pile massive debt, financial burden, and excessive regulation on Americans and American businesses?
As for Obama's policies, we will just have to wait and see. Claiming at this point that they are an *EPIC FAIL* is silly. We just don't know yet.
When will we know? When will it be OK to say "It's been long enough, yes, they are x." 2, 4, 10, 20 years?
The Stimulus was the largest spending plan ever, by all metrics. It's borrowed money, most of which has not been spent yet and most of the bill has not been read by the vast majority of people voting for it. It's based on principles previously disparaged by the very people who so staunchly promote it. It's based on government spending that's questionably beneficial, to put it mildly.
To say 'we'll just have to wait and see, claiming at this point it's a fail is silly.' Your statement is silly.

I am a strong proponent of nuclear energy and where did that come from? You make assumptions, my friend. Gas prices will be determined by the market, and yes, if the Chinese and Indians want to drive cars then gas will be significantly north of $6.00.
Tax policy in a time of war. Lack of regulatory oversight in banking and finance (Lots of blame on both sides of the aisle on the latter, but McCain was too laissez faire. The problem wasn't going to fix itself.)
thats just bullshit...the donks have owned the House since 06...check the voting record...like...history dood
Irony of ironies, Obama is repeating the same economic policy mistakes Richard Nixon did. Say what you will about Bill Clinton, he was much better with economic policy.

Contradiction. McCain voted for TARP 1. A true laissez faire politician would not have voted for TARP 1.

Dood, do you really think the meltdown of the economy, which started in late '07 could really have been influenced by a Congress that took office 10 months earlier without control of the Senate?
Irony of ironies, Obama is repeating the same economic policy mistakes Richard Nixon did. Say what you will about Bill Clinton, he was much better with economic policy.
yes, sometimes sitting back and doing nothing is exactly the right thing to do...BO is intentionally wrecking the economy...we talked about it all last year and people said I was crazy to even think that
Dood, do you really think the meltdown of the economy, which started in late '07 could really have been influenced by a Congress that took office 10 months earlier without control of the Senate?
Really?
You've seen the videos on Youtube of the senate testimony from Bawney, Chris, and Maxine warning Republicans to back-off from that nice guy Franklin Raines right?
Sigh. It's not easy being economically conservative. Luckily, I work for an economically conservative company with no debt, 15.98% return for a 12-month rolling year. Just bought land, started new offering, paying dividends. Yada yada. Squeaky clean. I'm lucky.
Too bad all those people on Cap Hill, in between power eating and screwing around, want me to pay for the companies that suck.
Dood, do you really think the meltdown of the economy, which started in late '07 could really have been influenced by a Congress that took office 10 months earlier without control of the Senate?
Lack of regulatory oversight in banking and finance (Lots of blame on both sides of the aisle on the latter, but McCain was too laissez faire. The problem wasn't going to fix itself.)
So, the GOP had a culpability in the regulatory oversight in banking and finance. Let's go with that.
You chose to vote for the party that has a much worse record on those issues.
in Nixon's time, they were split the wrong way. i think a conservative congress and a liberal president are the best method. they both keep each other from spending like mad men. i.e. Clinton-Gingrich
Dood, do you really think the meltdown of the economy, which started in late '07 could really have been influenced by a Congress that took office 10 months earlier without control of the Senate?
Who has been in control of congress the past 3 years?
Well, the Senate for seven months and not 60 votes until this week. That's significant. No legislation has been passed through a bullet proof Senate. Enough R's have gone along to allow every law to pass through.
yes, the economy was great through the mid to late eighties, but they did not control spending. that is what I am referring to. of course, Clinton had the peace dividend and Reagan was winning the cold war which begot the peace dividend.

All that proves is that moderates can be bought off with pork.
Really, not a troll. I'm not here to stir the pot. Just offering a different opinion. I thought that was the point of this board. If it's just and echo chamber, what good is it?

In 2003, while the ranking Democrat on the Financial Services Committee, Frank opposed a Bush administration proposal for transferring oversight of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac from Congress and the Department of Housing and Urban Development to a new agency that would be created within the Treasury Department. The proposal reflected the administration's belief that Congress "neither has the tools, nor the stature" for adequate oversight. Frank stated, "These two entities...are not facing any kind of financial crisis... The more people exaggerate these problems, the more pressure there is on these companies, the less we will see in terms of affordable housing."[48] The two companies, which together own or back more than half the home mortgages in the US became "hobbled" by loan defaults.[49] Frank clarified in 2009 that Fannie and Freddie were not in crisis at the time and many financial institutions, like Lehman Brothers, also fell into crisis from 2003 to 2008.[50]

I think many here are trying to point out to you that your arguments don't hold weight. That's why you're getting all the snark. We've been through this numerous times before. so, perhaps instead of being Cogndescending, you might ask an individual why she/he holds a certain opinion.
At least as bad, granted. So maybe it's time to fix the problem?
Good idea. The problem is that Obama won't do that. All he'll do is pass regulations that make it harder to profit while still mandating loans to people who shouldn't receive them.
Really, not a troll. I'm not here to stir the pot. Just offering a different opinion. I thought that was the point of this board. If it's just and echo chamber, what good is it?
You support the policies of someone I believe is actively working to destroy this economy and bring this country to its knees. What he is rapidly implementing will affect my children for the rest of their lives, possibly in worse ways that I can even imagine at this point ...who knows how bad it will really get? So don't come in here and tell me you're 'just offering a different opinion." Opinions that support the policies and ideology of this atrocity of a "leader" are anathema to me.
At least as bad, granted. So maybe it's time to fix the problem?...
BO does not care about you...he never did...you will get your ass kicked just like the rest of us...your silly ideology is gonna cost you and he will laugh in your face...you should have just stayed home that day instead of expressing some dumb shit fantasy that cannot come true...you have been duped
/Barney Frank gone wild, CRA, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, where are the criminal indictments?
Okay. This meltdown is not a mortgage problem. We had that in '87 and the S&L bailout cost us a bundle. This meltdown is a *derivatives* problem, where folks bundled those mortgages into several different iterations of "financial instruments" and sold them off to idiot investors. As long as housing prices increased, everybody was fat, dumb, and happy. When housing prices decreased the bottom fell out of the financial system. Were the D's culpable for pushing sub-prime loans? Of course. Were the investment banks culpable for turning those suspect loans into vast multiples of the original risk? Yes. I read somewhere an estimate of up to $13 trillion of worthless paper based on $2 trillion worth of sub-prime loans.

And Frank spoke for himself in 2003. The D's did not control Congress. Why didn't the R's tell Frank to kiss their ass and do what was right for the country?
YES, the Ds were culpable. But now they, in the form of Obama, Frank, Pelosi, etc. are pushing that the only people responsible for the mess was the Banks. They will not accept their own failings in this.
And Frank spoke for himself in 2003. The D's did not control Congress. Why didn't the R's tell Frank to kiss their ass and do what was right for the country?
Because they were afraid of the race issue. Franklin Raines is black and so were many people getting the bad loans. The Dems were calling the GOP Racist for even bring them issue up. Republicans should not have retreated, but they did so under attack by lies.

I think it may have something to do with that whole 'balancing of the social contract' thing.

And Frank spoke for himself in 2003. The D's did not control Congress. Why didn't the R's tell Frank to kiss their ass and do what was right for the country?
Frank was the ranking member on the Financial Services committee and resisted changes that could have impacted or retarded the impending crash, along with other D's.
I suppose the D's should tell the R's to kiss their ass now that they have majority like Kos and a bunch of other D's suggest? That means they have nobody but themselves to blame for the next few years of this economy, blaming Bush even at this juncture is tenuous at best.
Ha, the social contract... Funny thing is: the massive disparity between the poor in the US and the poor in the rest of the world. being poor in the US is being rich in the rest of the world. the reason for this, to paraphrase President Kennedey, is the "rising tide" brought about by a free and fair financial system. this will do more for the poor of this country than any welfare program could ever hope to do.

Fanklin Delano Raines. Obama crony and Clinton appointee. Investigated and avoided jail time but got away with paying a reltively small fine. These were civil charges. Fannie had to pay a 400 million dollar fine to the Securities and Exchange Commission. Raines was fined 1 million dollars.
This was in 2006. I don't expect to see the Democrat Party calling for any further investigations. They're too busy calling for investigations of Bush lawyers regarding their involvement with enhanced interrogation techniques.
Yeah, what a great job the Democrat Party is doing. /
Federal regulators Monday filed civil charges against former Fannie Mae CEO Franklin Raines and two other former executives, accusing them of manipulating Fannie Mae's earnings to jack up their bonuses.
In a complaint with an administrative law judge, the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight detailed 101 charges from 1998 to 2004 against Raines, former chief financial officer Timothy Howard and former controller Leanne Spencer, who all resigned in 2003 as the Fannie Mae scandal worsened...
Democrat Franklin Raines was CEO of Fannie Mae. This occurred after the 2006 election. Had he been a Republican a congressional witch hunt would have been called for.

That's because he already knew your argument was bullshit. That should have been your signal. Did you miss the point of my post entirely?
And what is a derivative and what does it derive form?
/gee, you really are an idiot
I won't even wait for your response.
/derivatives aren't the problem, derivatives based on bull[expletive] mortgages, yeah, that's what took our economy down with a lot of Barney Frank, et al grease

Welfare creates dependence. Dependence creates victims. Victimhood is the cornerstone upon which the Democrat party is built. It's woven tightly into their worldview. It's here to stay. Lofty crap about a "social contract" is more hogwash. Sounds good, smells like shit.

And if you get caught or screw up the books, blame the regulators or the laws.

Fwank was a minority member on one committee and if you recall the President at the time was trumpeting the Ownership Society. Again, there are a lot of bad guys in this situation on both sides of the aisle.
i will agree that compassionate conservatism does not work. result, the republicans got their clocks cleaned in the last two election cycles. again, though, the Democrats have not had to pay the piper and they are continuing their disastrous ways.
The Bush administration today recommended the most significant regulatory overhaul in the housing finance industry since the savings and loan crisis a decade ago.
Under the plan, disclosed at a Congressional hearing today, a new agency would be created within the Treasury Department to assume supervision of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the government-sponsored companies that are the two largest players in the mortgage lending industry.
The new agency would have the authority, which now rests with Congress, to set one of the two capital-reserve requirements for the companies. It would exercise authority over any new lines of business. And it would determine whether the two are adequately managing the risks of their ballooning portfolios...
Significant details must still be worked out before Congress can approve a bill. Among the groups denouncing the proposal today were the National Association of Home Builders and Congressional Democrats who fear that tighter regulation of the companies could sharply reduce their commitment to financing low-income and affordable housing.
''These two entities -- Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac -- are not facing any kind of financial crisis,'' said Representative Barney Frank of Massachusetts, the ranking Democrat on the Financial Services Committee. ''The more people exaggerate these problems, the more pressure there is on these companies, the less we will see in terms of affordable housing.'
i completely agree. they prey on victim hood. i don't believe it is here to stay, though. once the Democratic party has made the rich the fall guys for all life's problems, then there won't be any more rich and then no more money to pay the victims with.
Fwank was a minority member on one committee and if you recall the President at the time was trumpeting the Ownership Society. Again, there are a lot of bad guys in this situation on both sides of the aisle.
So we've come full circle again with this equivocation. What started this tangent was me pointing out that your choice of Obama was because the R's failed on some issues or other, though the D's have a horrible record. As for this particular issue, you're saying they're both equally wrong as some kind of equivalency as an answer to my assertion that you picked the team that screwed up more.
That means 'hey, they both sucked, but might as well give the new guy a shot.' That's all it could mean. However, you said you voted for Obama since the R's screwed up.
Either way, voting out the R's because they didn't do a good job doesn't make sense if there's little or no chance the D's will do a better job.
And my guess is, you got out right before that nose-dive.
What nose dive? Yesterday wasn't even a distribution day on ant index. If the Dow goes down 200+ points and there's no one there to bid, does it make a sound? Monday, Tuesday or the rest of next week will suss the market direction.
/yesterday was an austin_blue make believe market, all hype, zero volume

They will have a revolt on their hands with a bunch of pissed off generational *victims*. These people have been promised the moon and it's simply not possible. It'll all come crashing down ...all of it.

That is the scary version of the future. Its the one that I have been worrying about for some time now.
