How are we to survive? Solemnity is not the answer, any more than witless and irresponsible frivolity is. I think our best chance lies in humor, which in this case means a wry acceptance of our predicament. We don’t have to like it but we can at least recognize its ridiculous aspects, one of which is ourselves.

Parnell will have a much clearer shot at keeping the office in Palinite hands for another four (or possibly eight) years. Sarah Palin did not give up on her reforms today - she institutionalized them, Now, they will not leave office with her, but rather continue under Gov. Parnell.

The incoming head of the United Nation's nuclear watchdog said on Friday he did not see any hard evidence that Iran was trying to gain the ability to develop nuclear weapons.

"I don't see any evidence in IAEA official documents about this," Japan's Yukiya Amano told Reuters in his first direct comment on Iran's nuclear program since his election to head the International Atomic Energy Agency, when asked whether he believed Iran was seeking a nuclear weapons capability.

Current IAEA head Mohammed ElBaradei told the BBC last month it was his "gut feeling" that Iran was seeking the ability to produce nuclear arms, if it desired, as an "insurance policy" against perceived threats from neighboring countries or the United States.

"I'm not going to be a 'soft' director general or a 'tough' director general," Amano told Reuters, when asked how he would approach issues like Iran and Syria, which are both subject to IAEA probes.

Earlier Friday, IAEA members unanimously designated Amano as the organization's next director general, ending a rift between developing and industrialized countries over his nomination.

With the official confirmation of his election on Thursday, the Japanese diplomat is now set to assume his post in December, succeeding Mohammed ElBaradei, who retires as director general after 12 years in office.

Amano, Japan's ambassador to the United Nations in Vienna, narrowly won a run-off vote against South African diplomat Abdul Samad Minty.

Developing countries backing Minty had for several months blocked Amano's election.

But on Friday, developing countries grouped in the Non-Aligned Movement and the Group of 77 issued statements expressing their support for Amano, 62, who is seen as closely aligned with the United States.

Minty congratulated Amano, and offered his country's support, saying that "our future objective is to assist in fostering a cooperative spirit and to focus on what unites us, namely; creating a better life for all free from the threat of the use of nuclear weapons."

Meanwhile, the Japanese government put high hopes in the next IAEA leader.

"We hope that Amano will tackle the nuclear issues in the areas of non-proliferation and disarmament," top government spokesman Takeo Kawamura said in Tokyo.

I wonder if he'll change his mind if Tel Aviv goes up in a fireball?

Up until today, the iphone games site never looked right on the iphone. You would log on, and the index appeared too small. About 15 minutes of work with Dashcode, and it now comes up correctly.

Now that the design is taken care of, I'm thinking of spicing up the memory tests (and possibly the lessons later on), by adding graphics and animation to them. Some of them, like the card memory lessons, would really be helped by this.

So amazing. Believe it or not, that's partly why I love watching wrestling. The CEO/Owner of World Wrestling Entertainment, Vince McMahon, is such a proud and direct American, he has tributes constantly throughout the year. I love it.

They do a show IN Iraq in front of the troops every year during Christmas-time. They also provide free admission to any member of the miltary for their events.

So awesome.

Fortunate enough that greater men than me put their lives and their families lives on the line so my family and I could live like they could not even dream of.

There are Americans ashamed of her. Who will apologize for her. What a sad, sorry way to go through life. Ashamed of the possibilities and opportunities given them so long ago which they take for granted with no reflection whatsoever of the courage it took to establish her, while reaping all the benefits of what it is to be an American.

Good morning lizards! Happy Independence Day! Ever since I was very little, this was my second favorite holiday (after Christmas, of course). I grew up in a small town where the day started with baby parades, decorated bikes and floats and then a big parade. There were barbacues and then at night, games for the kids (peanut scamble!) and then fireworks. It always seemed like magic. Not many towns do that anymore.

Wow this one takes the cake. Have a set of guests that rented 2 rooms last night put their 87 year old grandfather alone. Now they are ready to leave he's still alseep with his door deadbolted with the security bar in place and they are upset I can't get them into the room because grandpa uses 2 hearing aids and has a resperatory condition and may have stopped breathing. I asked her wasn't anyone sleeping in the room with him and the Reply is "Why would we?" I feel bad that he has his condition and if he passed last night I will also feel bad but they put him alone in a room and he barricaded himself in so how is it my fault they can't get to him.

Good Morning Lizards. I have arrived safely after a 32 hour trip. I am looking forward to spending my first 4th of July on US soil in over 20 years.

The Fourth of July. What does it mean nowadays?

Is it just an excuse to travel? Is it a family-oriented holiday? Is it a day to sit and relax? Is it a day to sit and relax with a beer in one hand and a hot dog in another?

The Fourth of July is all this and much more. Why? It is the day of our declaration of independence from England. The day we stood up to King George and his cronies and said “Shove it, we’re done with this.” The day we officially said “Enough is Enough.”

And so, on that day in 1776, a new nation was born. A nation where literally anything is possible. A nation that would be born out of the blood, sweat, and tears of the war to come. It was a fight for freedom, away from under the cruel oppression of the English. Out of this war, we revolutionized the world. Thirteen original colonies now turned into the United States of America, laying the foundation for the Constitution of the United States to be written and accepted just a few short years later. In that Constitution, our forefathers guaranteed those unalienable, God-given rights to us that were described in the Declaration; Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.

For centuries now, America has stood as the model. People suffering on other lands picked up everything, sacrificed everything, in hopes to come here and make a new beginning. They came here in search of something greater, and by the grace of God, so many have been able to reap the benefits of the freedoms and the opportunities that we are BLESSED to have. My family came to the United States in the late 1970s, and for this, I could not be more grateful to them. They left their families behind in hopes to create a better life for their children. They wanted to come and live the “American Dream”, and you know what? They’ve done it. They built themselves up despite not knowing anyone and barely knowing the language. They are the ultimate success story, and so many share this story. So many who do not have the privilege of living here also enjoy this dream, and if by some chance they are able to escape whatever region they want to leave from, they too have the same opportunities to make those dreams a reality.

You see, this is America. The sacrifices made by those before us have allowed us to live here and enjoy what we have every day. I look around and I see too many people take what they have for granted. We are the last bastion of freedom, and we must fight to preserve it. Our way of life can crumble just as it has been built up. The Fourth of July is a day to reflect on our country’s past, present, and future. We must remember our past, and remember where we came from, so that we do everything possible to preserve our blessings. Our country was born out of the will to be different than those that preceded us.

I personally could not imagine living anywhere else, because what I have here is unparalleled. The greatness of America is undeniable. Today IS a day to sit back and relax. Today IS a day to be with family. Today IS a day to celebrate all that we have, and all that those that came before us have done to afford us these privileges. Today is the day to recognize that other countries and peoples are often not as blessed as ours to enjoy what we are able to enjoy on a daily basis.

May God bless you and yours, and may God continue to bless the United States of America.

I have had reporters admit to me privately that frequently they are working on stories that are already 95% written by their editors, they are just being sent out by their editors to get a few specific quotes to make the story sound true.

Was going to email you. Got the biopsies back on The Fat Beagle yesterday. As expected, it is inflammatory bowel disease, mostly in the small intestine and the cell types they found show it is the most common form of the illness - good, because vets have more experience with it. Initial treatment starts with a steroid and I'm going to meet with their nutritionist/holistic guy to talk about a low-residue, hypoallergenic diet.

Well, she won't recover. This is treatable, not curable. As for the 'holistic' vet - he's a regulary trained vet who has no problem w/conventional approaches - but he includes acupuncture, etc., and he really does get into the nutrition stuff. I've worked with him before.

She fought hard to stop the mining by US companies of Coltan in the DRC which led to the further environmental degradation and impoverishment of the local people there.

This is the 3rd humanitarian ship she has taken to Gaza.

She is not nuts. She is a person who cares about people more than enriching herself.

FYI and all. My response time is back to normal between me and LGF. I don't know what caused the slow down over the last 3 days, or why it stopped.

It seems like it was a Western United States+Comcast+LGF problem, as those are the 3 variable that seemed to pop up with other Lizards who had the same problem.

Around midnight last night, I sent a Visual Tract Route chart to Charles showing my "hops." Maybe he saw something in that chart.

Maybe it was all Comcasts problem and maybe it's something they have been trying to correct for a few days.

I don't know.

For the heck of it, if anyone continues to have response time problem, and you see me on LGF, post a comment, let me know.

And I agree with you - and I think Oxyclean or whatever other crap he was selling would get so much grief over suing his estate for not letting his pre-recorded commercials appear on TV that it would be a lose-lose situation for them.

OTOH, look at how many millions of downloads there have been of Michael Jacksons' musice since his death - and yeah, I know it's not the same thing, but MJ was broke (from what I hear) and I have no problems with his estate getting more (apparently much needed) income from that.
