___ The Shaming Of Crooks ___
B. A. Pajamas
The Shaming of Crooks is a difficult matter,
It isn't just one of your Tea Party games;
You may think at first this is mere blogger chatter
When I tell you, such crooks just CAN NOT PERCEIVE SHAME.
Ghastly instinctive rituals shrug off their shame plainly,
By Barney, Nancy, Harry or Al Franken-stain,
With their Earmarks and Corruption, Pork N' Bills Daily--
Self absolved laughably silent of blame.
Then there are deeper shames unfit for all leaders,
Such as with fat Baboons, dollar stuffed and lame:
Such as Hubris, Cowardice, Avarice, Defeatism--
Inexcusably snuffing out the economy's flame.
But I tell you, a crook needs no shame for hiking taxes,
Even if they promised not to raise them, and then lied,
Else how can they keep their heads up their asses,
Or cough up confession, and vomit their pride?
Of knaves of this kind, We can give you a quorum,
Such as Kennedy, Waxman, loons like Pelosi,
Such as all Corruptocrats or Benedict Arlen-
Their profits shame enough to fill several books.
But above and beyond there's one shame left over,
And it's hidden by the shame you'll never guess;
The shame that no climate research can discover--
But THE CROOK HIMSELF KNOWS, and will never confess.
When you notice the Crook in profound meditation,
The reason, I tell you, is always the same:
His mind is engaged in a rapt contemplation
Of the thought, of the thought, of the thought of his name:
His ineffable effable
Effanineffable
Historically feeble singular Name.

For those who don't already know, the past 2 nights, we've been counting down the 100 best 20th-century music videos, starting from 100. We've been doing 10 a night, and here's a recap of the first 20:
100 - Green Day, Basket Case
99 - DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince, Parents Just Don't Understand
98 - REM, Everybody Hurts
97 - Human League, Don't You Want Me
96 - The Replacements, Bastards of Young
95 - George Michael, Faith
94 - Wyclef Jean, Gone 'Til November
93 - U2, Sunday Bloody Sunday
92 - LL Cool J, Going Back to Cali
91 - Prince and the Revolution, 1999
90 - Lenny Kravitz, Are You Gonna Go My Way
89 - They Might Be Giants, Don't Let's Start
88 - Janet Jackson, Love Will Never Do (Without You)
87 - The Prodigy, Firestarter
86 - Billy Idol, Cradle of Love
85 - Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Don't Come Around Here No More
84 - Method Man & Mary J. Blige, 84-I'll Be There For You / You're All I Need To Get By
83 - Godley & Creme, Cry
82 - Def Leppard, Pour Some Sugar on Me
81 - Twisted Sister, We're Not Gonna Take It
Tonight's collection is a little weird, a little funny, and sometimes even pointless. Yet, strangely, Michael Jackson isn't anywhere among these 10.
#80? It's unfortunately unembeddable, but nonetheless, it's The Cure, singing Close to Me.

It's for the PC version that many complained was broken in the weeks after its release. I'm saving up to upgrade the desktop downstairs (a local store has a pretty cheap upgrade promo) because it requires Shader Model 3.0, and the best computer in the house so far - my laptop - only has SM2.0.
As for the game itself, I actually got an original copy at a convenience store promo for about US$7 for getting a copy of FHM and a food magazine from the contest organizers. Huh.

This just in...amazingly, the truth behind Sarah Palin's resignation has been just under our noses all along. As this poster from Red State explains:
… There is a hearing on July 13 on the Birth Certificate. If he is found to not be eligible to be President, he get’s thrown out of office and everything he has done is undone. Who gets the Oval Office? By law, it’s John McCain and Sarah Palin.
That's OK, no need to thank me...

Went flying today with a friend of mine. His plane is a 1978 Grumman Lynx with a 150 hp engine upgrade. This thing has more history than a human services doctoral coed. A student pilot crashed it when it was just 5 months old, tried to go around with full flaps and ran into some weeds. It was fixed and was later converted to the bigger engine. My friend bought it a few years ago mainly because he takes aerial pictures professionally and the Lynx has a sliding canopy: He can open the canopy in flight and not have to shoot through plexiglass. The main drawback is that the wing is very small (96 sq. ft. vs 175 for a Cessna 172) and the engine has added some extra weight along with the extra power. It is hard to get the doodlebug off the ground in a reasonable length of runway, especially on a broiling hot west Texas afternoon. Of course, I consider "reasonable" to be anything less than 40% of the total length, since I am an old pilot and therefore not a bold one. If I can see individual weeds directly in front of me, they are too damned close.
It was great, though, to climb out of the cauldron to about 10,000 feet and open the canopy, like turning on God's own air conditioner. The wind noise is not bad at all, even close to the 170 mph redline (the airspeed in marked in mph rather than knots, btw, another oddity, for me at least).

He was referring to the 2nd of July.
The Second Day of July 1776, will be the most memorable Epocha, in the History of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated, by succeeding Generations, as the great anniversary Festival. It ought to be commemorated, as the Day of Deliverance by solemn Acts of Devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more. You will think me transported with Enthusiasm but I am not. I am well aware of the Toil and Blood and Treasure, that it will cost Us to maintain this Declaration, and support and defend these States. Yet through all the Gloom I can see the Rays of ravishing Light and Glory. I can see that the End is more than worth all the Means. And that Posterity will tryumph in that Days Transaction, even altho We should rue it, which I trust in God We shall not. (The Book of Abigail and John: Selected Letters of the Adams Family, 1762-1784, Harvard University Press, 1975, 142).

Oh this is good. BBC News is saying "Honduras punished for ousting leader" by way of the OAS. Yet they fail to mention that Honduras quit the OAS beforehand.
Of course BBC News is too cowardly to mention any word of punishing Iran. Probably because there has been no official "punishment" of Iran for their regimes actions during the previous election which included the murder of civilians.

Indeed!
G'nite. Some folks are still shooting off some big fireworks in the neighborhood and my youngest dog is pretty nervous. Catch all of you tomorrow.
You can give a dog melatonin for that, if you have some on hand. A 3mg dose is correct for most dogs, unless they're really small. Both of my dogs (one in the 30-40 lb range, the other weights in the 70-80 lb range) would take the same dose.
(I found out about it online, and asked my vet about it.)

There's No Such Thing as Free Health Care
The costly truth about Canada's health care system
John Stossel %P% July 2, 2009
President Obama says government will make health care cheaper and better. But there's no free lunch.
In England, health care is "free"—as long as you don't mind waiting. People wait so long for dentist appointments that some pull their own teeth. At any one time, half a million people are waiting to get into a British hospital. A British paper reports that one hospital tried to save money by not changing bedsheets. Instead of washing sheets, the staff was encouraged to just turn them over...

Turning Japanese!
Is the US creating its own "Lost Decade?"
It wasn't that long ago that everyone in America believed that Japan would soon overtake the United States as the dominant economic force on the planet. When the Japanese stock market rallied to historic heights in late 1989 and Japanese investors even bought Rockefeller Center in New York, it all seemed like a done deal.
But then...the Nikkei Index tanked, the nation's economy collapsed, the government responded with an ever-changing mix of tax hike and tax cuts, stimulus spending on infrastructure, massive bailouts of businesses, and more. None of it worked and Japan entered what's been called its "Lost Decade," a seemingly endless period of economic stagnation...
It's got Timothy Geithner! Barack Obama! Hank Paulson! And more!

Last week, the History Channel had a special on America's crumbling inrastructure that seemed to almost be designed to drum up support for the stimulus bill this spring...except it aired well after it had passed.
It was actually pretty sobering, highlighting the sorry state or various bridges from rural Idaho to the Tappan Zee bridge that carries the NY State Thruway across the Hudson from NYC to Albany, Syracuse, Buffalo or Montreal...
Perhaps the scariest thing is that these bridges, pipelines and levees shown will continue to deteriorate while ACORN gets few more billion to community organize.

Yep that's still the word.
Back when half of America was repeatedly swooning over James Cameron's movie Titanic (largely due to Leo Duh, I believe), I saw a T-shirt that summed my feelings up exactly; The Ship Sank. Deal With It.
Maybe we need something similar to cope with the ongoing Jackson funeral obsequies', which are beginning to look like a cross between the Elvis version and something dreamed up by P.T. Barnum.

And The One will be all too eager to comply- in the name of "dialogue".
I notice, he's not at all interested in a "dialogue" with the people of Honduras.
Of course, they succeeded in legally ousting a tyrant*.
(* The original Greek root word describes a dictator who gains power by "populist" methods- whether he really believes in them or not. "Demagogue" is another description of same.)
Obama seems even more entranced by "strong man" rulers than his guru, Jimmy Carter. I can't help but wonder if he's still looking for a father figure, or a role' model.

re: #224 ggt
A lot of European nations have some form of C&T, and they've pretty much spent the last year or two laughing at it. With the economy spiraling downwards, carbon credits - basically, a measure of manufacturing production - plummeted in value and became worthless, making the "trade" part of C&T impossible. The "cap" part also became meaningless, as closed factories and reduced production reduced emissions far more drastically than any imposed restraint ever could.
That's one reason for the unseemly rush to get C&T in place Right The Fuck Now in the US. At the moment, with the economy scraping bottom, the costs - projected using current production figures - are extremely and artificially low, making the proposal look not so bad. Once the economy begins to rebound, however, the actual, full costs will blossom, making the whole system look like what it is - a disastrous brake on economic recovery, and a permanent stone around industry's neck that will force what's left of US manufacturing offshore forever, and take whatever jobs it provides along with it.

re: #236 Roger
Putin thinks "Soviet"
Yep. Most people outside of the MSM have already figured out that Medvedev is little more than Putin's front man. He gets to play President as long as Putin calls the shots.
Putin is an authoritarian, pure and simple. I think he's dropped all the Marxist/Leninist BS precisely because he knows it is BS. In his mind, defined as "it made Russia weaker, not stronger." He seems to me to be moving back toward the imperial mindset. Which, incidentally, got Russia into wars with Britain and France (the Crimea), Turkey and the Balkans (Russo-Turkish War), etc., in the space of a half-century, culminating in World War One. Which, technically, Russia lost.
Afghanistan was far from the first debacle' in Russian military history. What Russia did in World War Two (essentially crushing the Wehrmacht at Stalingrad, Kursk, etc.) was an exception to the rule. And considering how it came about, it's a tribute to the soldiers on the ground that they managed it in spite of the gross incompetence of their commanders and leaders. (For every Zhukov or Konev, Russia had at least a dozen generals who should have been digging latrines instead of commanding armies.)
The bottom line being that Russian rulers, before and after 1917, have a bad habit of letting their egos write checks their army command can't cash. From what I can see, Putin hasn't learned the lesson.
I don't expect The One to explain it to him, either. Unfortunately.

I agree with the tax greed parts. As for the nuclear power plant idea though...replace "coral reef" in my last bit with "irradiated wasteland" along with memories of Chernobyl and 3MI and there's something even I might possibly agree with.
France gets over 80% of it's electrical supply from nuclear generation; they produce so much electricity they sell it to other countries, and some of those countries are concerned, not about nuclear waste, but about tying their own electrical needs to a foreign power, because they can't produce their own electricity as cheaply.
It's been over 50 years since the US has designed a nuclear power plant; over 35 years since they've built one. Out of all those in existence worldwide - over 400 - only two have had noteworthy failures: Chernobyl and TMI. Chernobyl was a dreadful design right out of the starting gate, and it was operated by a fatigued crew running it in a way it was never designed to be run, and which had been warned against previously. TMI, a partial meltdown, had an overall decent design - the small amount of radiation released was largely contained, and the amount released has had no discernible health impact in all the decades since the accident - and can be placed in the "lessons learned" category. In fact, all US nuclear plants were inspected, and many modified, following TMI to ensure that similar incidents would not result in the release of radioactive material.
Meanwhile, the mining and processing required to manufacture the vast numbers of windmills and mirrors proposed on the alternative side will release orders of magnitude more radiation into the atmosphere than dozens of Chernobyl-style events. And that's before their other ecological impacts are taken into account. As noted earlier, we're talking hundreds of millions of acres plowed over and shaded by inefficient windmills and solar collectors, with no storage mechanism at all available to draw upon when the sun doesn't shine or the wind doesn't blow.
As long as we're exploring ridiculous, unworkable alternatives, here's one: build human-size gerbil wheels, and shackle environmentalist Luddites to them. A taser might be necessary to boost productvity, but tofu is cheap, and you could collect their methane emissions as a secondary energy source.

Pssh yeah but the aliens just needed new landmarks to help mark their flight plan. Mount Ararat wasn't good enough since it tool to long to get from the middle east to the mines in africa.
Yes, one of the basic flaws in the whole "Ancient Astronauts" theory is that it always assumes that the "advanced alien culture" that was capable of getting here across untold parsecs of space at just below the speed of light somehow was limited "dirtside" to technologies no more advanced that either the local cultures or that possessed by our civilization at the time the "theorists" were constructing their hypotheses. So, the "aliens" built pyramids all over the place as navigation waypoints (instead of using a satellite system with something like GPS), used primitive batteries to generate low-voltage electricity to power... something (gee, wouldn't they have something like "atomic batteries" by that time in their technological evolution?), needed the entire Plain of Nazca to take off and land ground-to-orbit shuttles (way bigger than Edwards or Canaveral), and so on.
Some use the fallback position of "well, they crashed here, and most of their 'gee-whiz tech' was destroyed." Fine, great. Except that, unless the "colonizers" were total technical ignoramuses, even re-creating their tech base from scratch would have been a quicker process than "going native" and building pyramids, etc. What's more, if they really were colonizers, they'd have the sense to bring enough supplies with them to allow for a crash or two, if they came in the numbers the "theorists" postulate. (Think several thousand at least.)
Then, of course, if we're to believe the theories, these poor, stranded colonists somehow still managed to;
1. Establish a worldwide comm and transport grid (with what- balsa rafts?)
2. Fight a full-on, regional level, nuclear war in India (the Hindu Vedas and Ramayana)
3. Genetically engineer us from our "primitive" ancestors (with what, if they were "out of supply"?)
4. And, when everything failed (never mind that they apparently ruled the entire planet)- they still managed to leave, en masse, leaving no verifiable artifacts or even dead bodies behind.
The lack of bodies, I don't buy; consider the Herculean efforts Graves Registration did worldwide in World War Two. We brought our dead home whenever we could, but we also established a lot of military cemeteries from Hawaii to Normandy. So, where are their equivalents?
The lack of technological artifacts, I buy even less. We have "native" metal and glass artifacts from the periods in question; where are the spacemens' discarded radio tubes, broken printed circuit boards, empty cartridge cases, etc.?
How about even one crashed that never got recovered? They're still finding them all over Europe and the Pacific and Asia, vintage 1939-45. So, where are the aliens' pranged birds?
Any way you look at it, the whole story just doesn't hang together.
That said, I actually collect and read books on this subject, from W. Raymond Drake (the originator of the idea) to Erich Von Daniken (the guy who made a fortune off it) to even more outre' ones.
I find them endlessly amusing, just like most books on "UFOlogy".

Among other things, this country needs a massive infrastructure overhaul, and the addition of lots of nuclear power plants. At some point, a president is going to have to order it done, to save a massive loss of economy.
True, that. A growing economy demands an abundant, cheap supply of energy. China is only the most recent example, where state-subsidized oil and a (total) lack of regulation make energy extremely cheap; their biggest worry at the moment is that their economic growth rate may dip below 10% thanks to the global recession.
If we want the US economy to grow, we must have a growing energy supply available to meet it's demands.

That's the other HUGE sticking point for me...with cap & tax, we want to restrict our economy, our industry (which is not in the greatest shape to start with), and for what? Any "reduction" in greenhouse gas emissions that is accomplished, will be more than made up for by China, India...and everyone else that's more concerned with growth than the environment. That playing field is already tilted, it doesn't make any kind of since to tilt it further.

If there were anything to prove, it would have already been proven. And it would be simple: a noticeable rise in cancer rates, or in the rates of particular forms of cancer, relative to the unexposed population. There isn't one; if TMI had any radiological health impact, it was so small that it is indistinguishable from the statistical noise.
I strongly suspect that fear- and panic-induced health risks related to radiation exposure are far more significant than any actual exposure in this case. Which is a shame, because they are completely avoidable.
Meanwhile, mining tosses orders of magnitude more radiation into the atmosphere every year than will ever be released by multiple meltdowns on a TMI scale. So does the burning of coal and further processing of other mined materials. Switching to nuclear would vastly reduce the amount of raw materials required to produce electricity, and would also reduce the amount of radiation released as a result, a net gain in reduction vis a vis accidental radiation releases from nuclear power plants.
Modern designs for nuclear power plants, based on a half-century of accumulated engineering wisdom and decades worth of hands-on experience available from France and Canada (another bastion of common sense when it comes to nuclear power) would reduce what small risks there are to a negligible level, further widening the margin between nuclear and conventional or alternative methods of electrical production.

Yes, the assumption that "progressives" want us to have a 'better future' is a very unsafe one. Considering the visceral distaste for Western, rational, technological civilization that is part and parcel of the progressive infatuation with Eastern, "mystical" belief systems, I tend to believe that they are about as interested in "progress" as Xerxes was when he invaded Greece. They, like him, are mystics who worship "earth and water", and neither understand rational reasoning nor do they respect it. They prefer to offer up sacrifices to their deities in the hope of boons being granted. So that they can both "rule without let or hindrance", and get what they want without actually having to expend any mental or physical effort to get it.
After all, that's what slaves are for. They are aesthetes; their job is to "visualize perfection" 24/7.
The rest of us are expected to work in the fields to make it possible for them to live as hedonists without "harming" their "goddess"- you know, dirt.
Ayn Rand would probably not be pleased to see how far we have come down the road to being ruled by those she called "mystics of spirit" and "mystics of muscle".
I know I'm not.

I'm not sure what it's called. But France has a rational approach to nuclear power - they have a single design that is used nationwide, and as problems are discovered the fixes for them are propagated throughout the entire country. The US has always taken a piecemeal approach - every power plant is essentially a prototype, making management and safety analysis much more difficult.
France also has a national waste recovery program in place. The US, embarrassingly, has tried for nearly half a century to adopt one, but still hasn't done so. Meanwhile, spent reactor rods are stored "temporarily" in swimming pools next to the reactors that use them, awaiting processing and long-term storage that will apparently never come. Here is where the Feds could make a huge damn difference - they need to mandate a storage site (or more than one) and declare it to be in the national interest, overriding objections from states that don't want it in their backyard. Frankly, there are many perfect candidates already available - the Feds own vast tracts of unoccupied land that doesn't fall under state jurisdiction in the first place, and a great deal of it is either no longer in use (former military installations of various kinds) or has never been developed at all. Stick it there, hand the state it's in a few billion per year in "lease payments" and tell them to go hang if they object to it.

I find Sitchin hilarious, too. especially because he goes along with the Velikovsky "Worlds in Collision" theory, in which Venus started out as a comet, etc. (Uhh, no.)
What makes it even funnier is that Velikovsky's theories are almost a direct steal from those of Hans Horbiger, whose "Eternal Ice" theory became the house cosmology of Germany from 1933 to 1945. You can read about it here;
without linking to any kook sites.
An even more detailed account, complete with Horbiger's "declaration of war" on orthodox cosmology and even astrophysics, can be found in The Morning of the Magicians, by Louis Pauwels and Jacques Bergier. They argue that one reason we've never been able to fully comprehend Germany at that time is that it was in the grips of a movement that simply did not view reality, in any aspect, the way the rest of the world did, and does, to this day.
/I highly recommend the book, just for that section alone, although the rest of it isn't bad, either.

That does describe a lot of hippy progressives I've known - and unfortunately they have had a lot of popular influence. In the UK, for example, almost everyone is convinced that GM food is inherently evil, and it isn't just the 'progressives'. Certainly though, not everyone on the left thinks that way either, and not everyone who takes the environment seriously worships the earth and water in that naive and misguided way. I find that the most relevant factor in determining how much of an 'earth-moonbat' someone is is their level of science education/engagement.

SEC to likely reinstate uptick rule.
SEC May Reinstate Rules for Short-Selling Stocks
For the moment, the most likely outcome may be for the SEC to reinstate a rule that the commission itself abolished with a unanimous vote in 2007, under its previous chairman, Christopher S. Cox. Known as the uptick rule, it would bar investors from shorting a stock until its price ticks at least a penny above its previous trading price.
But current and former SEC staff members appear to doubt that reinstating the uptick rule would have much of an effect on trading. Some say the change would be merely cosmetic.
Viewed in a vacuum the uptick rule may seem minor. But when you combine the absence of the uptick rule with the ability to buy credit default swaps (a bet that a given company will default on it's debt) and the absence of enforcing the "naked short selling" prohibition, you had a recipe for disaster. Once you bought a credit default swap on a company, you had an overwhelming motivation to "help" that company default. With no uptick rule and no enforcement of the naked short selling rules, you also had the tools with which to try to make that happen.

I'd prefer to see us build Fast Breeder Reactors. I don't see any proliferation concerns as long as we are the ones running the plants and they are located on American soil. The fact that we could re-process the "waste" into weapons-grade plutonium is a feature, not a bug. We could use the plutonium to refurbish/replace the aging weapons in our defensive arsenal.
A tough sell on those merits. A better pitch would be re-use of the plutonium bred in those reactors as fuel for other reactors, extending the finite supply of uranium. I national interest required, that stream of plutonium could be diverted if necessary. But using it for additional energy production is much easier to pass.

That is Yucca Mountain nuclear waste repository. Harry Reid is one big reason that it hasn't been opened yet. I think that is just NIMBY bullshit, and not recalcetrance because he wants to see the world burn up through Gorebull Warming. But you know that is how they would be spinning it if Reid were a Republican.
It is also possible that Reid is a secret neo-Luddite (in the Al Gore/Envirowhacko style) that opposes power generation of any form and is being an obstructionist on those grounds. Certainly a secure repository for nuclear waste would remove many of the objections to nuclear power as a means of generating electricity.
I think Harry could care less...it's simple pandering...it's not a belief system, it's just regenerating votes required to stay in office

You lose about 1% of your lung capacity for every year over age 30 on average. Does not make a big difference to just walking around every day, but it sure makes a difference in high performance level sports. I have no idea what he did in stage 1 last time, but that was several years ago. You now have a whole bunch of young riders out there with fresh legs and see Armstrong as an aging rider ready to be cracked.
I'm doing great.
Had a quiet 4th, sat around and took care of the dogs ans worked on projects. Watched our copy of the old John Wayne movie The Quiet Man. It was interesting cause last year we stayed in the town where they filmed that movie and we recognized the locations and buildings and such.
It rained all day here but should be nice today.

Here's a brief bit on McCollum.
/Yeah, I know, it's wiki, but it's brief and to the point for now.
Born and raised in Brooksville, Florida, McCollum graduated from Hernando High School and earned his bachelor’s degree and law degree from the University of Florida. While at the University of Florida, he was inducted into the University of Florida Hall of Fame, the most prestigious honor a student leader could receive, and served as president of Florida Blue Key. McCollum began his professional career on active duty with the United States Navy's Judge Advocate General Corps from 1969 to 1972. In 1992, he retired from the United States Naval Reserve as a Commander (O-5) in the US Navy JAG Corps, having served over 23 years as an officer. In 1973, he entered private practice in Orlando and immediately became involved in local politics, serving as Chairman of the Seminole County Republican Party from 1976 to 1980.

Huh? If it were any less hysterical it would be comatose! And again, there is a big difference between a 'simplistic' account and one that is well explained and easy to read. The important factors that we know about are represented, you can see how they influence global temperature, and you can see the conclusion that most climate scientists have drawn, and understand why they have done so. It puts the ball very much in the sceptics court.

Actually, the effect on the global temperature has been there ever since man started putting extra CO2 into the atmosphere. But CO2 has never been the only variable factor that has a hand in influencing global temperatures. It's only in the last 40 years that it's effect has become obviously apparent above other ones.

Good morning {wahabi}. Gee, wonder why she removed it? I mean it seemed like such a GOOD story, ya know? The politics of personal attack have truly reached a fever pitch in this country - all the news about Sanford and Ensign and all - and wasn't there a half a day or so about Edwards, too?
Methinks things are gonna get MUCH NASTIER just out of self-defense on the part of the right wing in this country. And given how many skeletons there are in the collected closets of Pelosi, Reid, Frank, Dodd, Kennedy, Waxman and Boxer, et.al. I have a feeling that the MSM will be rendered totally useless as a source of information about news of the day, because their bias LEFTWARDS is showing so much.
Indeed, although I can't find the damn link (now that I need it! LOL!) iirc, something like 50% of the population now get most of their news from the Internet. Gonna be an interesting next five years or so.

Yes, about 23 miles south west of Golden, into the Rocky Mountians, to my girlfriends house, with her daughter, 3 large dogs, 2 cats and a mixed collection of mountian wildlife (and animals :)
Her house is at about 8000 feet.
With 2 cats in the yard
Life used to be so hard
now everything is easy cause of you...

Well, she'll probably have one chance... no, the dogs will probably be alright... not sure about the cats. Maisey the Parrot is not scared of dogs... we may have to do some creative cage placement to keep the cats at bay.
But then again, Maisey is about as large as the cats and can put up a good show if she is bothered.

I've lived in Colorado 20 years, seen a lot of snow on the foothills area, this house is only 2 miles off a main highway, which gets first plowing treatment in the winter.
So, not a major problem, you always have to be careful in snow around here.

I used to think age had a lot to do with Internet usage, my mom, at 84, being a perfect example. But a lot of folks my age (64) down to say 50 or so are turning more and more to the Internet for things like job opportunities and as they do that, and get more familiar with the Internet and how it works, I think that age demographic will change some, when it comes to news, anyway. For on-line gamers, probably not so much.

Remember Larry Franklin? The guy that was sentenced supposedly for passing classified material to Israel?
He gave and interview to Forward.
“I’ve learned a lot by crawling on the ground,” the 62-year-old father of five said in his first interview since the affair began in 2004. The lessons that Franklin has learned from his experience include the capacity by his colleagues and partners for — as he sees it — betrayal, and the persistence, he has concluded, of deep-rooted antisemitic sentiment in certain quarters of America’s intelligence community.
“I was asked about every Jew I knew in OSD [Office of the Secretary of Defense], and that bothered me,” Franklin said. His superiors at the time were both Jewish: Paul Wolfowitz, deputy secretary of defense, and Douglas Feith, undersecretary of defense for policy, whom Franklin believes was a target of the investigation. “One agent asked me, ‘How can a Bronx Irish Catholic get mixed up with…’ and I finished the phrase for him: ‘with these Jews.’” Franklin answered, “Christ was Jewish, too, and all the apostles.” “Later I felt dirty,” he added.
Big surprise there, huh?

Can we dare hope for a reid/Blago moment?
Reid may be on his way out as Majority Leader anyway. The "filibuster-proof majority" is about to be tested, big time, with the cap & trade bill; the pundits aren't even finding 35 votes in support of it, meaning that a lot of Democrats are ready to jump ship, just as they did in the House. If Reid can't hold his own party together in support of a bill that's of critical importance to the Administration and to the Leftard contingent in Congress, his position as Leader will be in jeopardy. He's already demonstrated a stunning inability to exert any influence, and his normal excuse - "It's the Republican's fault!" - simply doesn't fly anymore now that his party holds clear majorities in both houses.

I read the Vanity Fair piece.
“Remember,” says Lyda Green, a former Republican state senator who once represented Palin’s home district, and who over the years went from being a supporter of Palin’s to a bitter foe, “her nickname in high school was ‘Barracuda.’ I was never called Barracuda. Were you? There’s a certain instinct there that you go for the jugular.”
Disregarding the fact the Green has been the go-to bitch for lies about Palin since she was nominated, there is not one reference to the fact that the 'Barricuda' nic was in the context of her prowress on the basketball court.

Leading Clerics Defy Ayatollah on Disputed Iran Election
“This crack in the clerical establishment, and the fact they are siding with the people and Moussavi, in my view is the most historic crack in the 30 years of the Islamic republic,” said Abbas Milani, director of the Iranian Studies Program at Stanford University. “Remember, they are going against an election verified and sanctified by Khamenei.”
The announcement came on a day when Mr. Moussavi released documents detailing a campaign of fraud by the current president’s supporters, and as a close associate of the supreme leader called Mr. Moussavi and former President Mohammad Khatami “foreign agents,” saying they should be treated as criminals.

there was a lost of talk about Obama having drawn up an enemies list during the campaign (but is that true or just a rumor? it's anyone's guess.)
Kurtz on CNN's Reliable Sources last week detailed the sniping also between two media people about the Obama administration and its relationship with the press -- Pitney from Huffington Post vs Milbank from WaPo... from the transcript:
KURTZ: A presidential news conference usually proceeds from the AP reporter, to the network correspondents, to the major newspaper writers. But President Obama set off plenty of chatter at this week's presser by giving the second question to a "Huffington Post" blogger. It wasn't just the selection of Nico Pitney -- Obama has called on "The Huffington Post" before -- but the way the president seemed to invite a particular question.

Oh, goody! Europe is so fucked up.
The political scientist has now compiled a selection of typical letters to document the climate of opinion in which the GDR and unified Germany are discussed in eastern Germany. Some of the material gives a shocking insight into the thoughts of disappointed and angry citizens. "From today's perspective, I believe that we were driven out of paradise when the Wall came down," one person writes, and a 38-year-old man "thanks God" that he was able to experience living in the GDR, noting that it wasn't until after German reunification that he witnessed people who feared for their existence, beggars and homeless people.
Do these people ever wonder why the Wall was there in the first place?

I see Shanny Moore has apparently removed the allegation of the Feds investigaing Palin from her web site.
No, I won't link to the skank.
The libs are dying for a scandal. Here's an update on situation.
The abruptness of her announcement and the mystery surrounding her plans have fed widespread speculation. But Palin attorney Thomas Van Flein on Saturday warned legal action may be taken against bloggers and publications that reprint what he calls fraudulent claims.
"To the extent several websites, most notably liberal Alaska blogger Shannyn Moore, are now claiming as 'fact' that Governor Palin resigned because she is 'under federal investigation' for embezzlement or other criminal wrongdoing, we will be exploring legal options this week to address such defamation," Van Flein said in a statement. "This is to provide notice to Ms. Moore, and those who re-publish the defamation, such as Huffington Post, MSNBC, the New York Times and The Washington Post, that the Palins will not allow them to propagate defamatory material without answering to this in a court of law."
He also told the Anchorage Daily News that Palin wasn't in any criminal legal jeopardy.
"I can say definitively I am aware of no criminal investigation whatsoever involving Sarah Palin. Zero," he said.
The FBI reiterated that claim Saturday, telling the Los Angeles Times for a story Sunday that the Federal Bureau of Investigation was not investigating Palin's activities as governor, a former mayor or in any other capacity.
Darn. Liberal hopes, dashed. It's not too late for another manufactured scandal, though. Come on holy and precious above-the-law lying libs - think of something!

Rise of the Euronazis...
Bomb seizures spark far-right terror plot fear
A network of suspected far-right extremists with access to 300 weapons and 80 bombs has been uncovered by counter-terrorism detectives.
Thirty-two people have been questioned in a police operation that raises the prospect of a right-wing bombing campaign against mosques. Police are said to have recovered a British National party membership card and other right-wing literature during a raid on the home of one suspect charged under the Terrorism Act.
...
Concerns that this might be part of a global trend have been reinforced by the case of James Von Brunn, the 88-year-old white supremacist charged with shooting dead a security guard at the Holocaust museum in America last month.

This is interesting:
Saudis give nod to Israeli raid on Iran
The head of Mossad, Israel’s overseas intelligence service, has assured Benjamin Netanyahu, its prime minister, that Saudi Arabia would turn a blind eye to Israeli jets flying over the kingdom during any future raid on Iran’s nuclear sites.
Earlier this year Meir Dagan, Mossad’s director since 2002, held secret talks with Saudi officials to discuss the possibility.
. . .
“The Saudis have tacitly agreed to the Israeli air force flying through their airspace on a mission which is supposed to be in the common interests of both Israel and Saudi Arabia,” a diplomatic source said last week.Although the countries have no formal diplomatic relations, an Israeli defence source confirmed that Mossad maintained “working relations” with the Saudis.
John Bolton, the former US ambassador to the United Nations who recently visited the Gulf, said it was “entirely logical” for the Israelis to use Saudi airspace.
Bolton, who has talked to several Arab leaders, added: “None of them would say anything about it publicly but they would certainly acquiesce in an overflight if the Israelis didn’t trumpet it as a big success.”
Arab states would condemn a raid when they spoke at the UN but would be privately relieved to see the threat of an Iranian bomb removed, he said.

Those are the only two Oliver Stone movies I can actually sit all the way through. Wall Street was pretty good IMHO. Platoon was an ok movie but a little too PC for me. (Willem Dafoe was great as always though)

re: #587 J.S.
yeah...but (for some people) the Obama administration is way, way out of line when it comes to the press...I think it's over the top to have the Obama administration phoning a blogger and making arrangements with said blogger (ie, what questions the blogger is "invited" to ask the President, etc.) for a so-called "press conference." That sounds more like propaganda...at the very least it is unduly manipulative.
About the HuffPo blogger Nico Pitney--
Pitney had been doing stellar coverage of Iran (even charles linked him IIRC). Pitney was soliciting questions from Iranians, 'What would you like to see someone ask Obama?" The WH called him and said they were interested in getting a question from actual Iranians, and told him they *may* be calling on him for the presser.
Pitney blogged about all this in real time, so there was no coverup. The question wasn't known to the WH beforehand. In fact Obama did call on Pitney, second, IIRC, and he asked his question-- it was actually the hardest question Obama got asked at the presser:
"Under which conditions would you accept the election of Ahmadinejad, and if you do accept it without any significant changes in the conditions there isn't that a betrayal of what the demonstrators there are working for?"
---and Obama ducked answering it.
The frothing and screeching from tools like Dana Milbank about this are about the old MSM being pissy that the new media is displacing them.
(BTW, note that I'm not saying that the press ISN'T in love with Obama-- just pointing out that Pitney in this case didn't do anything wrong at all, and the old MSM is having a hissy fit.)

This isn't about "old MSM" vs "bloggers" -- it's about an Administration phoning up people (even if it's a NY times reporter, I don't care) prior to a press conference and doing a little "tête-à-tête". Typicially that's only done in non-democratic states without a free press.
Might add that I also do not appreciate the townhall meetings with Obama (Dear Leader) and his begging petitioners who ask/beg for favors...again, that's the behavior of a Stalin, a Castro, a Chairman Mao granting special dispensations to those who fawn or shower Dear Leader with accolades. Shouldn't be necessary in a mature democracy where everyone is created EQUAL.

I'm pretty sure something like this happened at the time of the raid on the Osirak reactor in 1981. There is just no way an F-16 carrying 2 2000 lb bombs could make a 1200 mile flight almost entirely at low level without refueling en route. Air to air refueling is impossible at very low altitudes, btw.
The flight is possible if a significant part were at high altitude where fuel burn is much lower. I think the attackers transited northern SA and part of Jordan at high altitude, the locals looked the other way, and the flight went to low level only when they entered Iraqi air space.
It is also possible there was some kind of Iranian collusion.

The Iranians learned something from that raid though. That you should not put all your nuclear eggs in one basket. Even if Israel launched a massive air assault, there is little chance they will destroy it all or any of it. I would imagine it's in deep reinforced bunkers. They need penetrating bombs and I think the USA is the only country with that type of munition?
At least it would slow the Iranians down a little. Scary world we live in these days.

Hey there Desert Dog - I STILL don't understand why Obama took the position he did with regard to Honduras.
I know it's hard cause I'm thick as a brick these days, but could you explain it to me? I mean, as I understand it:
a) Zeyala was the democratically elected President
b) Honduras' Constitutuion explicity forbids anyone from seeking to change the term limits set forth therein.
c) Zeyala then holds a referendum the effect of which would be to ignore the Honduran Constitution so, a la Hugo Chavez, he could perhaps make himself president for life
d) The Honduran Supreme Court said No, you can't have a referendum on this; the consitution is clear, no removal of term limits and, also as per the Honduran Constitution anyone who tries to mess with it, automatically gets bounced out of public office (and can't hold public office for at least 10 years) and orders the Honduran Military to arrest him.
e) Honduran military arrests Zeyala and he goes packing off to Costa Rica.
f) the Honduran democratically elected Congress appoints the head of that Congress as temporary President.
g) the Army withdrew and Honduras is now under civilian rule.
If the foregoing is correct, why did Obama denounce it?

Paulian view of the Tea Parties...
Neocon audience + Libertarian Speakers = Interesting Tea Party
So I decided to go to the July 4th Tea Party at the capitol in CT. The event was pretty interesting. It was set up by a libertarian and the speakers included several libertarians as well as Peter Schiff himself as the keynote.
One of the earlier speakers started talking about debt, cap and trade, universal healthcare, and was receiving applause from the audience. And then he started talking about the War on Drugs.
He spoke about the large incarceration rate and how most of them are for drug offenders. He suggested rethinking our drug policy. The crowd did not like this. They started booing, hissing, and shouting at him. "How about we execute the drug offenders!" That one was particularly disturbing. As the crowd kept booing, and myself and maybe one other person were clapping, he continued with a slight grin on his face until he was finished.
The next speaker decided to bring up foreign policy. "We can't be the world's policeman!" This started back up the booing. "By wasting our resources in far off wars we are less safe, and right where the terrorists want us." The crowd was booing and even throwing stuff. They started chanting "USA, USA!".
Several in the audience were also upset when a speaker talked negatively about Bush. "This is not a bash Bush rally!" "He was spending money keeping us safe!"
The crowd decreased in size quite significantly by the time Peter Schiff spoke which was disappointing.

That is not a coup. A Coup is when the military takes over from a civilian government with the intent of ruling themselves. In this instance, the military was ordered by the legislature to remove the president for attempting to have an illegal and unconstitutional election, designed to make him President for Life. I cannot understand why Obama is siding with Zeyala right now. He was elected, but he wants to usurp the democratic process in Honduras now. Who the hell is advising him on this matter? Where's your evidence that they "didn't do a tête-à-tête?" They had a get-together prior to the press conference -- that's an uncontested fact. Now the degree to which they made their "arrangements" -- that may be subject to dispute. But it's not disputed that they got together. And that's the problem -- it's also about the perceptions...(perceptions are, oftentimes, just as important as "what is" or "what actually transpires." that's one of the reasons why trials are not conducted behind closed doors.)

Yes but you don't need to destroy those bunkers, just make it difficult (and with continued attention, impossible) for anyone to get in or out of those bunkers.
That the Israel's could certainly do.
I hope that happens...either way, its a tough road to trod. Let them get the nukes and they are a menace. Attack them and they go crazy in the Gulf of Arabia and the Straight of Hormuz. I hope Israel kicks them in the teeth HARD

Perhaps nothing inappropriate went on in this case.
But the fact that this administration seems to have a habit of having these private conversations with members of the press is something I find disturbing. The conversations are private, so by their very nature, we don't know what's going on in them.
So far, from what I've learned, it isn't (yet) a break with Bush policies. I thought it was wrong then, and I still think it's wrong.
In the Pitney case, part of why it seems clear that Obama didn't know what the question would be is because he gave no kind of answer to it! (msnbc has the video).
Really, my intent here is to indict the entire practice and the entire MSM, of which i consider HuffPo now a part-- but also to point out that the MSM is being hypocritical when they pretend like Pitney did anything wrong. There is this larger issue here about how the whole MSM is complicit in this all the time.

I listened to Sarah Palin's speech and have read what all the pundits and bloggers are predicting. I can't help but laugh and shake my head in disbelief. Sarah gave us her reasons, which sounded well thought out to me. True, she did not reveal her ultimate strategy. I have no doubt that soon she will reveal her next move and continue to give the pundits more to mindlessly ponder. What I find excrutiatingly stupid is the pundits and bloggers that are speculating that she needs to come up with a plan. Do they really believe she didn't have her plan in place before she decided to resign? I understand that the DNC and rabid left is trying to pull Old Style Chicago Politics and destroy her and her family through frivolus litagation. We see it happen time and time again with anyone who goes against the Party Line. (Remember the initial persecution of JTP) I find their methods frightening and should be a huge red flag for all Americans. I see Sarah being able to handle the crap, she is a fighter. I also suspect she is going to handle it differently than others who have allowed them to destroy their careers. In my opinion, we just witnessed the beginning of a strategy that will result in a rightous fight with good winning out over evil. So many have written her off as a dumb, inexperienced hick, unwilling to admit that the guy elected President has less experience and serious ethical deficits. She has vowed to fight Politics as Usual and I believe her. I am going to give this some time to reveal

The WH admin called Pitney. Not Obama.
As for evidence-- anyone can watch the press conference. Pitney's question was by far the most difficult one asked. (I'm sure Obama would have wanted a softball!) And obama totally failed to answer it.
It's a pretty poor 'staging' when it has the result that you're put on the spot like that.

No question about it, Sarah's surprise announcement was a bombshell, sucking all the oxygen out of the air following poor Michael Jackson's not so surprising end.
Pundits are all of the same mind: Sarah is bizarre and erratic. She quit her governor job mid-term, making her "a quitter and a flake." She allegedly cannot take the heat, or poisonous venom, being sprayed on her and her children. She is, therefore, unfit for higher office.
In her long, off-the-cuff resignation speech, described by some as analogous to Nixon's observation, "You won't have Dick to kick around any more," she explicitly stated that she was repelled over the blood sport of contemporary American politics, tired of wasting Alaskan taxpayers time and money defending endless "ethics charges," angry at the cruelty displayed toward her oldest daughter and her infant son, and not willing to waste public time and money as a lame duck governor. Furthermore, not stated in her speech, was the financial burden in legal fees acquired in the past two years defending spurious legal complaints lodged against her.
In my opinion, her 4th of July weekend resignation was a stroke of political genius. It was the act of a Jiu-Jitsu master: exploit the weight of the opponent in a take-down and throw. If the whacko Secular Progressive Liberal contingent of America was up to now crazy with Hate Palin fervor, just wait and see what the next few months have to offer them.
Palin is now free to earn big bucks speaking, writing, and organizing a community. She is a sincere and artful mistress of her political philosophy: small government, anti-tax, free enterprise, free expression, self-reliance. She is also pro-life. As a physician of long standing, I must tell you that I am pro-life too. I have not much empathy for the pro-death crowd. While I feel great sadness for women who have an "unwanted pregnancy," I have long been repulsed by the idea that abortion is a suitable form of birth control. I do not advocate making elective abortion illegal, but I do subscribe to the notion that elective abortion should be made socially disreputable. It should be considered a tragedy.
I believe Palin will become the new, primary spokesman of the American conservative movement. She will come forward to speak on behalf of candidates seeking elective office in 2010. She will speak with frequency at a multitude of public fora. She will become a Fox News contributor, if not a talk show hostess. She will build a populist base of such magnitude as to transcend old party politics. I would not be surprised to see her drafted as the Republican candidate in 2012 and would love to see her deliver a sound drubbing to the self proclaimed deity currently driving our country to ruin.

Right now there are quite a few potent contenders for the presidency (here, the election season always starts long before the first posters go up), but what's really ticking me here is that Joseph Estrada wants to run for re-election. No. And you know that if Bush had asked for such a thing, they would have reported on the administration's attempt to "manipulate" the news. I saw no such reports, so I can only assume the Bush administration made no attempt to manipulate coverage in this way.
The Obama administration apparently asked for this, AND ABC was perfectly willing to along with it.
That's the point. Administrations must have contact with the press.
In the case of the Obama administration, it's the willingness of the administration to use tactics to manipulate coverage (rather than just providing information), along with the willingness of the press to allow themselves to be manipulated that is so disturbing to me.

I pretty much loathe the MSM, for many reasons.
Some of them are certainly Obama cultists. These are the same people who screamed about certain Bush policies, yet have no problem at all when Obama enacts the same policies or makes similar decisions.
Some of them (many) are shameless hacks that only provide vapid and vacuous crap in the place of analysis, and are far more concerned with maintaining access to the Beltway cocktail circuit (and proximity to power) than they are with actually, you know, reporting. Chris Matthews is a perfect example. That crap about the tingle is typical of him, but he also said many similiarly gushing and embarassing things about Bush, once upon a time. (someone here recently posted transcripts and vid; CM was particularly gooey over Bush right around "Mission Accomplished")
Matthews is the kind of "journalist" who just goes whichever way the wind is blowing. The "chattering class", as the lefty/prog blogs call them, only cares about itself and loves to repeat empty phrases and non-stories. Sometimes this hurts Republicans; sometimes Democrats. Right now they love Obama, but this doesn't make me like them any better.
Finally, there ARE important criticisms to be made of Obama from the left! and yet the MSM is sidelining these. WaPo just fired their only liberal blogger--- who was a staunch critic of Obama from the left. Why?
A free and open press is crucial to the democratic process. A press that will do its job is essential to keeping any administration in check. And we don't have that right now, and in fact we haven't had that in years-- and I think everyone here would agree that this is destructive, corrupt, and in large part responsible for the sorry state of our political discourse and our political situation today.

I agree with your post. (from what I've seen/read -- stated as a generality -- it seems that during the Bush administration it was pretty much anti-Bush, some even going into a derangement syndrome -- demonization, really -- some of it filled with extreme hate/bile/rage against GW Bush...now, it appears that much of the media has swung in the opposite direction with an extreme, frenzied love fest for Obama...although just recently that may be growing tiresome, with some maybe even breaking ranks now...I hope, in the future, a more balanced approach will be found...)

Uh, reine, if you don't mind, y'all might want to read my #598 above.
I did.
The point I'm trying to make (not very well apparently) is that all political entities must have contact with the press, for the purpose of disseminating and clarifying information. It would be silly and suicidal, imo, for an administration not to have contact with the press.
What I find disturbing about the Obama adminstration's contact with the press is:
1. This administration's apparent willingness, in its contact with the press, to make requests or set conditions that are clearly an attempt to manipulate coverage to its own purposes (rather than simply to provide information), and
2. The willingness of the press to be used in this way.

This is nothing new, though, is it? The previous administration strictly controlled who even got in to its town hall meetings, never mind the questions. And they credentialed a "reporter" for a "news service" whose previous line of work was as a homosexual escort.
re: #724 iceweasel
Indeed. The biggest culprit here is the MSM.
If you get infatuated with someone and offer them your...integrity..., don't be surprised if they take you up on it. Neither party in such a transaction is commendable, but only one is a fool.
I don't doubt that the Bush administration would have taken the MSM up on the same offer.

That's the movie. I have written screenplays. Have them registered with WGAEAST.ORG. The last one I started, I was 25 pages into it, typing like mad. When you are writing and things are rolling, you don't stop. Didn't get to back it up, then my motherboard fried. Bummer.
That sucks. I hope you can get your groove (and your motherboard) back. It's a very competitive field, and I wish you all the luck in the world.

Of course, our greyhound spent most of the night in our shower, poor thing.
I had fun but my whippets were sitting wide eyed and shivering when the big booming things were going off. They were not thrilled with the fireworks.

I hope it changes too. I'm cynical about the prospects of it. I do think that new media helps a lot in the process of changing the old MSM-- CNN being embarrassed over its Iranian coverage by the Twitter campaign -- ( #CNNfail) and as a result finally starting to play catch up. That sort of thing.
I do think blogging has an important role to play in changing the current media spin. It's been having an effect; I hope it continues (and in the good way, like making CNN cover Iran better, -- not in the bad way, where news organisations talk about baseless rumours spread on blogs -- like nirth certifikat gate and the like)

Precisely. And in fact the Bush admin did exploit the once-good relations it had with the press, in the first term. By the second term all of that had changed and Bush was actively seeking to avoid the media.
The MSM in general really is a bunch of hacks. Any politician has to deal with how petty they are-- if you deny them access for too long, they start getting testy and running nasty items simply because they're denied access.
Once Bush started distancing himself from them, they were bound to turn on him even more. That's their nature.
Similarly with Obama. Right now they can't get enough of him, but that can easily curdle.

In Kung Fu, we call this concept Wu Wei 無爲. Action without action -- overcoming by not resisting or as you put it, using the attackers momentum against him.

Yep...but, as you note, there are pros and cons even with the "new media". Actually, I suspect that one of the reasons why CNN was initially so reluctant to cover the protests in Iran was because of the lack of verifiability...I also noticed -- just lately -- other times when CNN has refused to immediately confirm something -- they now wait until they have adequate confirmation -- that's somewhat new, in that, in the past (prior to Twitter, for example) they'd always rush and try to be the first to announce some breaking news story...

It's been over 50 years since the US has designed a nuclear power plant; over 35 years since they've built one.
Westinghouse designed the AP600 in the 80s, and never built one in the US. They now have the AP1000, and are planning to build the first two...in China.

You know, I think you're right...in the Iran case I think CNN's lack of coverage was about waiting for more confirmation and also a general unfamiliarity with Twitter, social networking, etc. IIRC rightly it took them 3 days to catch up. But as you note, that isn't like these other cases that involve laziness or outright spin or manipulation on the part of the press -- in this case it was about waiting for info. Good point. (Maybe it means there's some hope, too!)

Yup.

While the date of the article is March 2005, the content clearly shows that this was a campaign stop during the 2004 election. Obama is holding staged town hall meetings now, while not (really) running for re-election.

Sorry, I was a little vague there. I mean, its more than Palin, its really about the GOP and its relationship w/ the media. Recall the gentleman who told you a few weeks ago (in the spirit of friendly advice) to tread carefully regarding Palin at LGF, becasue people were protective of her. His explanation was (to the extent I recall correctly) that conservatives are protective of her becasue of their belief that the media tried/is trying to destroy her. Anyway, I can't recall anything in US politics like the entire Palin saga. Just wondering if this Palin thing is a culmination of the GOP - MSM issue coming to a boil.
