Indeed. I clicked that link, and went on to the event's link, with the hope that I'd see moderate Islam adapting to Western modernity.

No mention of patriotism. No mention of separation between state and church (or temple, mosque, sacred grove, etc). No mention of the right of individuals to practice the faith of their choice (or none).

I continue to hope for a moderate Islam that is compatible with democratic pluralism. However, hopes are not outcomes. I wonder if practitioners of taqqiya say 'life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness' in the same sense that they say 'religion of peace'.

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Wednesday shows that 32% of the nation's voters now Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as President. Thirty-seven percent (37%) Strongly Disapprove giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of –5.

The number who strongly disapprove inched up another point to the highest level measured to date and the overall Approval Index is at the lowest level yet for Obama (see trends).

In the wake of last week’s disappointing report on job loss, consumer confidence has fallen to the lowest level in two months. The Rasmussen Investor Index shows investor confidence falling to the lowest level in three months. The number of investors who say the economy is getting worse jumped from 43% before the jobs report to 51% today.

They often have to act quickly to avert crises and there's not time to hold meetings, debates and votes in congress before they take action. Also, giving control of our monetary policy to Congress is just about the worst idea possible.

Ben Bernanke: Federal Reserve audit would constitute "takeover" by Congress

Also the Fed does operate with a certain amount of secrecy to avoid panic in the markets and insider trading. Giving congress access to this information is a recipe for disaster.
Either way, even if the legislation passes it will surely be vetoed. Even Obama is not stupid enough to let this go through.

Resting up from a couple long days. Waiting for my dulcimer project to cure so I cam put on some varnish.

One of my nephews became a Dad today, healthy bouncing baby boy. We were all together for a cook out Sunday night in Chicago, and I noticed that about every 10 minutes or so his wife would take a big breath and sweat would appear on her forehead (this is their first). Being a Dad 3 times I recognized that sign, brouight it to their attention, so they immediately took her home. She went on like that for two days and they did a C-section this morning (baby was breach).

Everybody is fine, which is the important thing.

What do you make of the plan to audit the Fed?

depends on who is doing the audit, but in general terms I think it should be done periodically anyway
