Not to mention that a lot of people read LGF who aren't members, and those people aren't likely to look at comment threads or spend a lot of time in them. They drive by to see what's being talked about/posted about.

I'm a big fan of Baron Cohen's work but I didn't like the Borat movie much. Paging through David Byrne's Journal and found this while he was in Houston:
A block or so past the run-down shacks — this is Houston where there is NO zoning — is the new Federal Reserve Bank. It’s a weird, almost surreal post-modern edifice.
The mind turns to Alan Greenspan, former head of the Fed, who helped via deregulation to get us into the mess we’re in today — the whole Goddamn world is fucked, Alan! This very out of place structure somehow lingers, like a fart left by someone no longer in an elevator. Alan was recently quoted as saying “I made a mistake.”
Vely intellesting.

That's right around the corner from my office. What Byrne misses about the no-zoning laws in Houston is that it leads to much more efficient use of land, and lower housing prices as a result.
Neighborhood associations have to stay strong and keep deed restrictions in force to keep out commercial development, but that puts control in the hands of neighborhoods where it belongs.
The "run-down shacks" that he is disparaging are the remnants of Freedmen's Town, one of the parts of Houston to which the black population was formerly restricted. Now, people are free to live where they want.
82 | Gus Thu, Jul 9, 2009 7:54:11pm |
More from Mr. Byrne:
On Falls Road, there are murals that align the situation of the Catholic minority with that of the Palestinians, African Americans (one mural featured a large image of Frederick Douglass!) and other oppressed groups worldwide.
It has been said that the famous potato famine was, if not engineered, then allowed to develop and flourish, thanks to the English. A little bit of Stalin in the British Isles.
Other murals commemorate the dead Loyalists, and portray the Catholics as a band of pesky rebels and terrorists (which they are, regardless of whether you agree with their political position or not) — a constant thorn in the side of the “legal” government. In some ways the legality of the government here is hard to dispute — but its vibe and rhetoric smacks of the use of similar convoluted logic in other places, where the powers that be — the oppressors — portray themselves as the victims. The ones with all the guns, soldiers, power, politicians and courts somehow turn things around and claim to be the victims — uh huh. Heard that one from the US Religious Right, the US Republican right and the Israelis as well.
The Orangemen (the Protestants) have regularly attempted to goad and provoke the Catholics by marching in “religious processions” through contested neighborhoods at certain times of year. Like the school kids we saw hanging round these housing estates, they were all itching for a fight. The two neighborhoods are right next to one another — a stone’s throw apart — but, like Gaza and Israel, they are separated by a fence, a wall, barbed wire and a no man’s land.

I get the feeling those two do not get along. I'd have to side with LanceKates on most issues. At least she can think on her own, and not blindly follow her man Charlie.
I see no evidence to suggest that Sharmuta is anything but her own woman, and a smart one at that.

Umm, nope. March 7, 1958 was a Friday.
They had to walk a while:
On March 7, demonstrators start a 54-mile march in response to an activist's murder. They are protesting his death and the unfair state laws and local violence that keep African Americans from voting. Led by SNCC activists John Lewis and Hosea Williams, about 525 peaceful marchers are violently assaulted by state police near the Edmund Pettus Bridge outside Selma.
Television networks broadcast the attacks of "Bloody Sunday" nationwide, creating outrage at the police, and sympathy for the marchers.

OK, since you ask. He's got several like this:
A dangerous game. Israel’s inappropriately large response (73 Lebanese civilians dead at last count) may have the desired effect of alienating the Lebanese people (and the Palestinians) from the radicals in their midst, but it may also serve to rile up and provoke the surrounding nations who would like nothing better than an excuse to attack Israel. Israel naturally feels that they have the tacit unspoken support of the mighty U.S. should any such larger scale attack occur, and this is probably true. For now. And Israel has superior military arms, technology and strength. (The U.S. looked the other way as Israel developed the bomb.) But with oil getting scarcer and scarcer one wonders how long those U.S. promises to protect Israel will hold out. The U.S., it will be remembered, did NOT welcome Jewish refugees fleeing the Nazis with open arms — they were often turned away. Many went to Argentina. (Many of the members of La Portuaria have Jewish ancestry.) Odd that Argentina would also welcome fleeing Nazis in later years — or maybe that was the ultimate act of neutrality. Anyway, the U.S. has found ways to reverse its promises and commitments in the past, and oil may be a powerful and sad pragmatic incentive to do so in the future.

And I met my wife while watching a total solar eclipse during a trip to Siberia I took for my 39th birthday, during which eclipse (and birthday) the comet Hale-Bopp was visible. Now everything is completely clear.

It's evident that he wants to be banned, he's putting on a little show for his friends at TWO, and it's apparent that Charles is not around to squash this little vermin, but, in the meantime, he is getting more an more vile by the minute, which is only giving him satisfaction (does it talk to it's kids like that).

How about a we all sing a song while we wait for the BBQ to get going:
From buzzsawmonkey:
Flounce to the Exit
--to the tune of "Waltzing Mathilda"
Once a jolly moby registered to comment here
Waited and lurked upon threads patiently
And he sang as he watched and waited for his exit cue,
"You'll see me flounce to the exit shortly."
"Flounce to the exit
Flounce to the exit
I'm going to flounce to the exit shortly"
And he sang as he watched and waited for his exit cue,
"You'll see me flounce to the exit shortly."
Up came a thread that took apart creationists
Up came a thread debunking conspiracies
And he sang as his comments became more and more abusive,
"You'll see me flounce to the exit shortly."
"Flounce to the exit
Flounce to the exit
I'm going to flounce to the exit shortly"
And he sang as his comments became more and more abusive,
"You'll see me flounce to the exit shortly."
Up came Charles Johnson with the banning stick in hand
Flanked on his side by formidable Stinky
"May I suggest that you moderate your posting style?
Else I will show you the exit shortly."
"Show you the exit
Show you the exit
Else I will show you the exit shortly
May I suggest that you moderate your posting style?
Else I will show you the exit shortly."
Up reared the moby, and ripped out a parting screed
"Here's what I think--I dare you to ban me!"
But not even a ghost of his words remains on the board
After he flounced to the exit shortly
Flounced to the exit
Flounced to the exit
Leaving a rant behind for all to see
But not even a ghost of his words remains on the board
After he flounced to the exit shortly

Well no, I'm not Charles, for a matter of fact, I'm probably not even close to one of Charles' favorite Lizards. Which is a point that our Madistan seems not to understand. I don't agree with everything that every Lizard posts on this blog. I don't even agree with everything Charles posts.
And sometimes I get as mouthy as any troll does, like Madistan. But the difference is, I can back off, I can respect when I have crossed the line, and in all honesty, I don't even walk away from a session on LGF mad at anyone.
There are some Lizards that I butt heads with on a daily basis, I do it on purpose, becuase I have my opinions on how those Lizards present themselves and their subjects, and I don't like them
But there is a big difference between navigating this blog like an adult, and acting like a crappy-assed dirty diaper like Madistan.
They don't know how to act grown up.

Nope. It's his blog, he can do what he wants. If I don't like it, I can leave, stay away, find another place.
Why would it bother me. My worth, my existence, my survival and mostly my belief in myself does not depend one single ounce on any support or lack of support I get here.
So, why would you be so obsessed with a place you have no control over, no ownership of, no stake in and it doesn't determine whether you live or die, get up in the morning or not. It's not the end of the world.

Serves him right. The troll wanted to have his turds (I won't call them posts) bronzed for posterity by being left on this thread. So Charles deleted them so he doesn't have something to point to to show his LGF 2.0 buddies proving his 'brave foray in the hell of the original LGF'.

Why waste the cyberspace?

Good, I never quoted. Usually when I see some drunkard like this a-hole I begin immediately by not using the quoting function.
Not everything. My 354, with a quote from him, is still here, which in my mind is good, since the point I make is applicable to all trolls (probably all bloggers and commenters).

Exactly. Then if you don't quote there's zero reference.

As of this time a lot of quotes are still extant while its comments are nuked.

That could work. I know I've quoted some of the trolls in the past before. I use it as a general rule now to avoid quoting once I make an ID.

Thanks. It's really stating the obvious, which sometimes has to be done. Anyone who can't walk away from a blog and basically forget about it with in a week has some sort of problem.

Well, to take my own advice, I'm walking away for a while and going to bed. I'll be fine...

It was trying really, really hard to conceal its personality. Names may change but personalities don't. People usually reveal themselves by their use grammar, punctuation, syntax, and whatever their obsession is.
