Some albums I bought recently at Amazon’s MP3 store, and highly recommend. Lots of different styles in this batch, from prog rock to African chants with banjo. The Amazon widget lets you listen to 30-second excerpts from any song on these albums, and if you click through and buy, the LGF weblog fund gets a small cut of the sales price through their Associates program.

They should give you more than a 5 second clip if you're going to promote music for them.

Speaking of Amazon, has anyone ever participated in the Vine program? Is it annoying? Is it worth it?

I was talking to a relative back east the other day- he related the story of how some of the kids at one of the nearby schools started to grow a vegetable garden over the summer. Yet despite the healthy-looking crop, some tomotoes and berries started to go missing. Initially it was thought that this could be attributed to the local wildlife and relative lack of oversight in the garden during the summer months.

But there was a survaillence camera on the presmises. Instead of catching a raccoon, deer or skunk helping themselves.....it was two of the school custodians.

The kicker- one of the custodians, who could be clearly seen eating a big juicy tomato off the vine, is the union chief.

Wounded Jersey City Cops Won't Keep Mayor From Sucking Up to 0bama, Corzine-

Chief Comey said that they used a 12-gauge shotgun stolen in North Carolina in 2007 and were staying at the apartment of a male renter, who told police that he had met them at a local mosque.

[snip]

By early afternoon, their health appeared to have improved enough that Jersey City’s mayor Jerramiah T. Healy, went to a 2 p.m. fund-raiser for Gov. Jon S. Corzine in Holmdel, N.J., that was attended by President Obama.

Asked why he was there, the mayor replied, “It’s looking better and better for our guys.” But Mr. Healy added that he was going to take the opportunity to “lobby” the president “about the illegal gun issue” before hurrying back to Jersey City.

Few people even know what D-Day was. When a key product launch for Sprint fell on June 6th this year, I brought up the importance of the day to my co-workers and got a bunch of blank stares. Indonesia, the world's most populous Muslim nation, has a history of bloody terrorist attacks, including the Bali bombings of 2002 which claimed 202 lives including three New Zealanders and 88 Australians.

I am sure there will be westerners caught up in this. Even if Howard was in office, there would only be a strongly worded letter of condemnation. After all, with 230 million of them just over the water, you wouldnt want to rile them too much. Now, with Rudd, I am sure there will be some sage nodding and "I wonder what we did to upset them" statements.

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Ron Paul (TX-14) is pleased to announce that all 178 Republican members of the House have now signed on as cosponsors of his Federal Reserve Transparency Act, HR 1207.

True about Saipan, though Iwo Jima wasn't resolved on the beach either, but took over a month to secure. Saipan also saw one of Japan's few tank attacks of the Pacific War. That attack failed badly: Unlike in Europe, US Bazookas and Shermans were more than sufficient to see off Japanese armor.

WWII is slipping from memory.

The Civil War, WWI, and Korea all but gone, mention Cold Harbor, Shiloh, Chancellorsville, Marne, Argonne, Chosin, Inchon.

Vietnam was never taught, Khe San (our own lizard USMC1968 Silver Star, RIP) Huy City.

If we don't remember those names, those places, and events surrounding them. We will have to add new blood soaked names to the list.

I do my best to keep the memory of those places and deeds alive, but its hard going. Most people don't know any military history, and thus any attempt to teach someone about a battle takes a lot of explaining. I have however, really caught people's interest at times and some people thus caught read about the explained battle on their own.

True about Saipan, though Iwo Jima wasn't resolved on the beach either, but took over a month to secure. Saipan also saw one of Japan's few tank attacks of the Pacific War. That attack failed badly: Unlike in Europe, US Bazookas and Shermans were more than sufficient to see off Japanese armor.

when I say resolved I mean that if the Marines do not move inland under fire, they will be cut to pieces on the beaches...this was especially true at both Tarawa and then at Iwo...and there were Jap tanks on Tarawa and they did a fair amt of damage...it was the bunkers tho, time and again...Iwo was a nightmare...google the banzai attacks on Saipan...chilling

Ron Paul thinks it will show the Fad has been playing illegal games with the money supply. Secondarily, he also thinks it will expose governmental waste and corruption (this secondary objective might actually be achievable, though lining up behind Ron Paul is too high a price to pay to achieve it).

re: #98 brookly red

What exactly would auditing the Federal Reserve do/accomplish?

Here's a piece about it from Politico:

“If you think about the power that the Federal Reserve has at this particular moment in history, it’s incredible,” said Rep. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.).

Baldwin is a bellwether, one of 66 Democrats — and 232 members overall — to co-sponsor a bill mandating audits of the Federal Reserve System for the first time in its nearly 100-year history.

That push comes amid rising skepticism in the Senate over President Barack Obama’s plan to give the Fed sweeping new powers as part of its revamped financial regulatory plan.

The proposal “represents a grossly inflated view of the Fed’s expertise,” said the ranking Republican on the Senate banking committee, Alabama’s Richard Shelby.

There’s no national tidal wave of anti-Fed sentiment, members acknowledge, but constituents are becoming more suspicious of the Fed’s expanding role in propping up the American economy and the opacity of its inner workings.

Rep. Jim McGovern (D-Mass.) said he “was getting a lot of calls from constituents” asking him what was happening at the Fed. “That’s why I support this bill,” said McGovern, who joined more than 150 Republicans on the legislation last week.
...
“I just think it will be very hard for members of Congress to go back to their constituents and say, “I’ve got $2.2 trillion of your money at risk and I don’t know where it’s going,’” said Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), who is pushing his own bill calling for names of banks aided under Fed lending programs.

I've read about them: The Japanese army (IJA) threw wave after wave at our positions. Some of those sent were wired as human bombs (The Japanese were the first to use this evil trick). In many case these attackes went on for several hours and resulted in score to hundreds of dead Americans and thousands of dead Japanese. Chilling is right.

Nothing tentative about this. Paul has other bills proposed, including the total elimination of the Fed. It is quite clearly a very straight-up-middle strategy: first, get his fellow congressmen to do an audit in the hopes of finding some shenanigans, which will lead to a popular outcry, then hit up his fellow congressmen to support the follow-up bill eliminating the Fed.

Paul is counting on the populace being outraged at those Jew bankers the Fed to force the hands of his fellow congressmen.

The idea is attracting some crazy support at CBS.
"Alois Brunner" sez:

Americans need to know the federal reserve is a private owned bank owned and controlled by Zionists. they print our currency and charge huge amounts of interest to do so. meanwhile the us dollar is not worth the ink it is printed on because it is no longer backed by gold or silver. thanks to the cabal of the zionist mafia who control the federal reserve.

The Pre looks interesting! I just got my first "smart phone". A BB Curve. I have to say I love the connectivity. The frigging thing blinks red all frigging day as email rolls in.

Honestly, I only bought it to use Pandora while I mow my lawn. Right now I don't have any way to secure to myself, so I tape the phone to my upper arm with electrical tape. :p

Is it one of these modern once with haptic feedback?

Blah, someone told me you were the resident Pre aficionado so I figured you had one.....

For your sake, I'll tell you it sucks :)

How so? I sell it, so your opinion matters to me. Whatever you say, you will not be downdinged or attacked.

Capacitive sensing on ITO on the screen. ITO can be placed transparently on the screen and provide the circuits.

Info on HR 1207 (Federal Reserve Transparency Act of 2009).....

From OpenCongress

Year after year in Congress, Rep. Ron Paul [R, TX-14] has introduced a bill to abolish the Fed (H.R. 833). Though the bill has a dedicated network of citizen supporters – see the End the Fed network – it has never made any legislative progress or gained a single co-sponsor.

This year, however, Paul has introduced a toned-down version, along with the original, that is gaining co-sponsors quickly and could actually get a vote this session — the Federal Reserve Transparency Act of 2009. The co-sponsor list, currently at 58, is strongly bipartisan. It includes progressive Democrats like Rep. Alan Grayson [D, FL-8] and Rep. Henry Waxman [D, CA-30], Blue Dogs like Rep. Gene Taylor [D, MS-4] and Rep. Collin Peterson [D, MN-7], and conservatives like Rep. Michele Bachmann [R, MN-6] and Rep. Scott Garrett [R, NJ-5].

Far from ending the Fed, the bill calls for a full Government Accountability Office (GAO) audit of the central bank to be completed before the end of 2010 and submitted to Congress for review.

Current U.S. Code protects the Fed’s secrecy in several important areas (31 USC 714 – Sec. 714):

Audits of the Federal Reserve Board and Federal reserve banks may not include – (1) transactions for or with a foreign central bank, government of a foreign country, or nonprivate international financing organization; (2) deliberations, decisions, or actions on monetary policy matters, including discount window operations, reserves of member banks, securities credit, interest on deposits, and open market operations; (3) transactions made under the direction of the Federal Open Market Committee; or (4) a part of a discussion or communication among or between members of the Board of Governors and officers and employees of the Federal Reserve System related to clauses (1)-(3) of this subsection.

All of these barriers to access would be eliminated by Rep. Paul’s bill.

In the past year or so, the Federal Reserve has given banks more than $2 trillion in loan guarantees in an attempt to forestall the economic crisis. But information on where all this money has gone and what kind of securities the Fed has accepted in exchange is unavailable. Since the Fed is a quasi-public institution, they aren’t obliged to tell us, even though they are pushing around public money. “The contrast is pretty clear,” says Sen. Bernard Sanders [I, VT], who is sponsoring the Senate version (S.604), “if you want to know who received the money under TARP, go to the website, it’s there. If you want to know who received the money from the Fed, it ain’t there.”

More on Govtrack here along with a nice Q&A page.

What is noteworthy is the level of support this bill has received..... Happy reading all.

I don't know if Palm put feed back into the Pre, we just did the screen input circuits, and collaborated on the firmware.

I was being totally sarcastic, man. Just wanted to spare your feelings since you said you're not able to get one at the moment.

I LOVE it. The phone hardware needs some work (problems with screen wiggling, dead pixels, leaks, etc) but the WebOS functionality is just, beautiful. Everything is natural, everything flows and just "makes sense". Honestly don't think I can go back to a non "card system" phone.

The screen is heat sensitive, if that tells you anything.

That's what I'm hearing as well. The dead pixel issue is going away quite soon, and the others are being improved. The Pre is great and I love selling it.

Okay. Not what I was looking for ;)
I was talking about these piezoelectric powered ones that can display buttons, react on touch and you can feel there shape with your fingers and have a kind of pressure point, or use it for digital braille.

Capacitive actually, your finger changes the capacitance in an ITO grid on the screen. Our chip detects that change in capacitance and the XY location on the screen and provides the input to the main processor. It also detects multiple finger touches and gestures.

Nope not that. Our chip could do that however.

Do you mean I can use it as a clinical thermometer? Hold it to my forehead and then read my body temperature? (If this is not patented - I will register it right now!) ;)

I had to exchange mine once. The second one is better, but has more of the wiggly screen issue. It also has the screen leaks at certain times... I'm not sure if I should go exchange it again.

I'm waiting for firmware tweaks to make the thing run smoother, add some more functionality/options/fixes, and some nice applications.

You know how some TV screens and computer monitors have little patches along the corner where the color isn't filled in all the way or it's burned through, etc?

Your welcome, it's kinda fun working on leading edge stuff. The technology is making it into all kinds of stuff. It's big advantage is no moving parts, it can be sealed from the environment and still work.

Understood. I have seen that. Thank you for your input. If you are getting screen leaks though, I'd suggest an exchange of your Pre. Again, thank you.

The screen leak was BAD on my first one, not toooo bad on the second one. Second one comes and goes, and definitely not as pronounced. I'm up in the air on exchanging it. A part of me just doesn't want to go through the hassle of perfecting my accounts and stuff again. Sure, the Palm Profile downloads everything back, but for some reason it didn't sync my contacts perfectly. My AIM buddy list screen names were separated from their rightful listings so I had to link everything up again. It was a pain in the butt. One thing I don't understand is why you don't have a choice of importing who you want to synergize with your phone re. Facebook and AIM. It takes EVERYONE off my Facebook page if I were to sync it up, which I havent.

Speaking of tech stuff: I got an invite from Google today to sign up for their new "Voice" service. Has a bunch of nifty phone-message features, and at "free" it is barely within my price range, so I'm aiming to do it.

Anybody had experiences, good or bad, with Google Voice?
