But Corona tells us to change our whole latitude.

Someone's not talking to someone else. This endangers the beer supply in the entire Southwest. This won't be good.

Could that wall have like, sections? So it blocks them from coming back, too?

No fear. Beer comes from Boston.

There are kids who get drunk in Mexico and throw up in the streets. Mexico has had quite enough of this, and plans to build a wall.

Maybe the wall could be like Crab or Lobster pots. Once in, the trap door in the wall does not allow egress. This video is funny because it has more than a dollup of truth in it.

OT
I was just wondering what would happen if the Nirthers somehow succeed and the SCOTUS declares the messiah constitutionally ineligible.
Besides all the minor dislocations--chaos, anarchy, civil war---we will have Joe Biden as president. There is no doubt at all about his eligibility, there being is no provision in the Constitution for excluding doofuses (doofi?) from the office.

24 snowcrash  Sat, Jul 18, 2009 1:45:53pm

The next speed bump in the economic recovery....
CIT Group Says Its Failure Risks Demise of Customers

CIT Group Inc., the century-old lender that hasn’t been able to persuade the government to back its debt sales, says its demise would put 760 manufacturing clients at risk of failure and “precipitate a crisis” for as many as 300,000 retailers.

A collapse would ripple across the “small and medium-sized businesses who rely on CIT to operate -- to pay their vendors, ship goods to their customers and make their payroll,” the New York-based lender said in internal documents obtained by Bloomberg News that make the case for its importance to the U.S. economy. CIT spokesman Curt Ritter declined to comment on the documents.

Do these headphones make my ears look fat?

MAJOR PROPS to JVC. I think I have lost a $100 set of in-ear Bose headphones. First set that's ever fit my tiny little earholes (Norwegian defense adaptation) the right way, and I don't regret a single one of the 2,000 nickels it took to purchase.
BUT.

I bought me some cheapie JVC over-the-ear headphones, and it was the most amazing thing: I did not need a knife and a set of Vise-Grips to open the package! The plastic was actually perforated to allow a customer to retrieve what he has just purchased.

So thank you JVC! The headphones don't sound so hot, as it's only a twelve-dollar set, but I'm still basking in the glow of music to my fingers.

JVC rocks.

If you want the taste but not the booze, try Claushalter. It's the fallback for whoever draws the DD straw when there's a barbecue here....not watery or weak, pretty decent.

Here in the big dusty, we've been enjoying Erdinger NA, which is an absolutely fantastic-tasting near beer.

I don't drink beer; no moral thing, just can't stand the stuff. Ditto hard liquor, wine, pretty much anything with alcohol in it.

As for the Mexican President, Whenever I hear his name (Calderon') I tend to confuse him with the Colombian drug kingpin that Crockett & Tubbs aced in the first season of Miami Vice. Of course, that one had a seriously hot daughter.

/And wasn't always making things up about "gun smuggling" south across the border to keep a certain American President happy enough to keep the foreign aid coming.

Taliban video shows captive US soldier

The Taliban has released a video of an American soldier who went missing from his base in eastern Afghanistan June 30 and was later confirmed captured.

The soldier, whose identity has not yet been confirmed by the Pentagon pending notification of members of Congress and the soldier's family, says his name, age and hometown on the video, which was released Saturday on a Web site pointed out by the Taliban. Two U.S. defense officials confirmed to The Associated Press that the man in the video is the captured soldier.

The soldier is shown, dressed in a gray, nondescript outfit, eating and sitting on a bed, and he says the date is July 14. He says he was captured when he lagged behind on a patrol. The military said the soldier was captured July 2.

The 28-minute video shows the soldier being interviewed in English by his captors, where he states his views on the war, Islam and the morale of American soldiers.

BNP’s ‘devils’ find they are without friends in Europe as right-wing bloc fails to materialise

A further, far more damaging, setback for the two "devils" - Griffin's mocking self-description - was their failure to find enough far-right comrades across the EU to form a new bloc.

However, the BNP still had plenty of friendly fellow travellers to hang out with. Griffin has been getting matey with several groups. One is Jobbik, the far-right Hungarian party that won 14.8% of the vote in the Hungarian European elections despite its anti-gypsy stance and unpleasant comments about the nation's Jews.

Griffin and Brons even stayed in the same hotel as three Jobbik MEPs. The party, also known as the Movement for a Better Hungary, won nearly as many votes as the ruling socialists, securing three seats in the European parliament.

Others involved in talks with the BNP were France's Front National - which won three seats, including the re-election of its veteran controversial leader Jean-Marie Le Pen - Belgium's Vlaams Belang and Ataka, the nationalist Bulgarian party.

Just remember- the VB isn't fascist because robert spencer says so.

Kuroshio Sea - 2nd largest aquarium tank in the world

It was shot at the Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium in Japan.
The main tank called the 'Kuroshio Sea' holds 7,500-cubic meters (1,981,290 gallons) of water and features the world's second largest acrylic glass panel, measuring 8.2 meters (27 feet) by 22.5 meters (74 feet) with a thickness of 60 centimeters (23.6 inches). Whale sharks and manta rays are kept amongst many other fish species in the main tank.

Taliban video shows captive US soldier

I am going to sound like a cold hearted son of a bitch on this one, but if the US goes down the path of "Our soldier is worth 1,000 of theirs" that Israel got itself into, we are well and truly screwed. If we try to get his captors to unclench with gestures of releases out of Gitmo (and you can bet that Team Obama is really tempted to use this as the out they need to let those bastards go free), then say hello to another 100 years of terrorism like the kind Israel gets to deal with.

I support Israel but have never understood - never - why they do "prisoner" exchanges. It just leads to taking of captives and then makes your guys have to fight the guys they captured last time around.

How about greed?

Helg Sgarbi, a former Swiss investment banker, was sentenced to six years in jail by a Munich court after he admitted he had seduced Klatten and three other wealthy women. He persuaded them to pay him nearly 10 million euros under various false pretexts.
Sgarbi, a Swiss army lieutenant, won over Klatten, a 46-year-old married mother of three, at a health center.
She later handed him a cardboard box containing 7 million euros in 500 euro notes, believing he had paralyzed a child in a traffic accident in America and was in need of the money.
Klatten ended the relationship after Sgarbi, 44, demanded more money. He responded by threatening to send photos and tapes of their hotel-room rendezvous to colleagues, family and media unless she gave him 49 million euros. She then went to police.

Then Walter did specials called the 20th Century or something.. It was cool when you watched them cause he sounded like he had the voice of God..

Gaza: Hamas produces first feature film

The first feature film produced by Hamas made its debut this weekend, complete with an exclusive crowd of local celebrities posing for photographers at the movie premier screening in Gaza.

The action-packed thriller, an homage to a top Hamas operative, cost only $200,000 to make and is being shown to segregated audiences of bearded men and veiled women.

"It's Hamaswood instead of Hollywood," Fathi Hamad, Gaza's Hamas interior minister, said after the film's first showing Friday evening at Gaza City's Islamic University. "We are trying to make quality art that is Islamic and about the resistance, without provocative (sexual) scenes."

I found more on the Bulgarian Ataka party- the party to whom the VB and BNP are looking to form a coalition:

Bulgarian election raises red flags

A less numerous but perhaps more vocal turnout was registered by the hyper-nationalist Ataka party, whose leaders campaigned on pledges to withdraw from Nato, expel American troops from the country, reverse post-communist privatisation and impose "severe sanctions" on anyone "defaming Bulgaria".

Reverse privatization? Defaming Bulgaria sanctions? Does Powerline know about these guys?

2 Tour riders hurt in suspected air-rifle shooting

Two Tour de France cyclists were slightly injured Friday in what their teams suspect was an air-rifle shooting.
New Zealand's Julian Dean and Spain's Oscar Freire, a three-time former world champion, were struck while riding in northeast France during the 13th stage.

Dean's right index finger was injured. Freire's team said he was hit in the thigh with a projectile that was removed. Both were expected to ride Saturday.

Has there been any discussion yet on the Hizballah groupies attacking and wounding UNIFIL troops yet?

Villagers in southern Lebanon on Saturday prevented UN peacekeepers from searching an abandoned building near a suspected Hizbullah weapons depot that exploded last week, a Lebanese security official said.

The official said dozens of men in Bir e-Salasel surrounded UNIFIL vehicles on Saturday and ordered the peacekeepers to leave.

Fourteen UNIFIL men were wounded when some 100 locals attacked them, Israel Radio reported. When the troops called for backup, the villagers fired at the reinforcements.

Not to mention the 15 unarmed Lebanese civilians who crossed the border carrying Hizballah & Lebanese flags... attempting to provoke a response, no doubt...

Earlier, UNIFIL boosted its forces along the Israeli border, hours after 15 Lebanese civilians carrying Lebanese and Hizbullah flags crossed into Israel.

The group, which included several children, entered Israel in an area where there is no border fence, and returned to Lebanon after several minutes.

IDF soldiers spotted the group, and seeing it was unarmed, decided not to take action.

Seems to me Hizballah may be gearing up for some more stupidity in the near future... distracting from Iran's problems, perhaps?

Very true, and very interesting. I do wonder if either Lance or Contador will make a move before that last big climb. I think there will be by someone that could gain some separation before then, and there lies the drama.

Loss of Leipheimer could benefit Lance. Contador will have to work harder, and when it comes to work Lance cannot be outdone. I don't see anyone else among the leaders who brings a serious threat.

On the other hand, another war with Hizballah, while Obama is pressuring Israeli's to stop the settlements, would send the media into a frenzy. I feel that big events in Israel dominate the news cycle far more than events in Iraq. (But maybe thats just me...)

Andy Schleck, Carlos Sastre, Cadel Evans. Tomorrow is do or die time for them. They have time to make up and time is a wastin'. As for losing Levi, both Contador and Lance will both have to work harder. It's a tough blow.

Lance is a bottomless receptacle for pain, Contador will hit the wall. All the rest are just looking for a place at the podium. That's my prediction anyway.

Not that he is a threat, but for sentimental reasons it's kind of neat to see Big George up there in GC now. I noticed some of the commentators are referring to Nocentini as "Non-entity". Heh.

The Coyote Cafe opened a store in Austin back in the mid-90's and was roundly avoided because of their price points. When they closed up shop and left, their manager was quoted as saying that Austin wasn't sophisticated enough to appreciate their food.

AP sources: Taliban video shows captive US soldier

The American soldier who went missing June 30 from his base in eastern Afghanistan and was later confirmed to have been captured, appeared on a video posted Saturday to a Web site by the Taliban, two U.S. defense officials said.

The soldier is shown in the 28-minute video with his head shaved and the start of a beard. He is sitting and dressed in a nondescript, gray outfit. Early in the video one of his captors holds the soldier's dog tag up to the camera. His name and ID number are clearly visible. He is shown eating at one point and sitting on a bed.

re: #329 Iron Fist

Sirhan Sirhan shot RFK, and the Democrats have loved the Palestinian cause ever since. What is it with Democrats? If the Republicans weren't such pussies, and would just stomp the living shit out of the Democrats they (the Democrats) would probably love them (the Republicans) too. A bit of a co-dependant Party. Or so it seems from the outside.

IF ... don't know about all dems but Billy Ayers liked him enough to put him in Prairie Fire ... oh, wait ... we are not suppose to say that ... just a guy in the neighborhood ...

poor Los Alamos...too many geniuses up there...never learned to smile and say howdy...Stanford and MIT misfits

My business took me into Los Alamos regularly. It was no shock that this is the center of security leaks. I could walk anywhere and enter any facility at any time without the slightest challenge. A very weird place.

See #328. Nobody beats Los Alamos for least friendly. I met a woman who grew up there, and she agreed. She said that after the war, when they took down the security gates, the locals were "scared that the pachucos were going to come up and kill us!"

they have a tradition of an exclusive, sheltered lifestyle...bunch of oddballs...there is nothing about that town that appeals to me...it's just on the way to somewhere else once in a while...I take that back, there is one nice view back down river to the Sandias from up there

#348 Killian Bundy,
I don't know that you should brand him with the AWOL label. I heard he got separated (a laggard), but that is a million miles from AWOL which implies he was sort of asking for trouble.

Here's an odd sales angle.......

Dealer offers car buyers AK-47s

BUTLER, Mo., July 18 (UPI) -- A Missouri car dealer who gave buyers vouchers for handguns last year has upped the firepower this year to AK-47s.

The promotion is good during the month of August, KCTV-TV, Kansas City, reported. Mark Muller of Max Motors in Butler said he will not hand out assault rifles personally but will give each car buyer a voucher good at a gun store.

"That way it separates you from anything bad that could happen," Muller said. "We'll put it in the hands of professionals who do this every day."

Last year, the vouchers were for Caltec pistols. Muller carries one himself.

"We already did handguns," Muller said. "Let's do something more fun -- AKs. You ever shot an AK? Oh, they're a blast."........................

And leave it to the Barbara Boxer of the House - the insufferable bitch, Jan Schiakowsky - to whine the loudest:

But Rep. Jan Schakowsky, D-Ill, added that if the investigation finds that Cheney ordered Congress not to be informed of the plan, "there is reason to believe that is a significant violation of the National Security Act."

There's no violation, Jan, because there was good reason to believe that if Congress had been briefed, some blabbermouth would have headed straight to the NYT with the "story" (see "warrantless wiretapping," "secret prisons" et al).

John Aloysius Farrell at U.S. News and World Report puts it all into perspective:

There is only one good reason for Leon Panetta to have shut down the CIA's secret program to kill Osama bin Laden. And it is not that Dick Cheney didn't tell Congress about it.

It's that, apparently, it didn't work.

Yo Lizards -

Why not? Mexico already HAS a "Fence" against Guatemalans entering - visible nightly on satellite feed. A "fence" against "Assholes Gringo" would be right in keeping with that. Our Mexican Neighbors are - Obviously - NOT STUPID. That is all.
