Randall Terry Threatens Violence if Health Care Pays for Abortion

US News • Views: 13,731

I’m astounded that the National Press Club is apparently going to lend their podium to anti-abortion fanatic Randall Terry — so that he can threaten terrorism and “violent convulsions” if Obama’s health care plan pays for abortions: Healthcare, Abortion, and Potential Violence: ‘Let All Those in Government be Warned: They Cannot Order People to Pay for Murder and Betray God Himself without Horrific Consequences.’ — Randall Terry.

Terry’s threats of violence were released through the Christian Newswire.

WASHINGTON, July 17 /Christian Newswire/ — Randall Terry, Founder of Operation Rescue, and other local pro-life advocates will hold a press conference at the National Press Club (529 14th Street NW, Washington, DC) on Tuesday, July 21, at 2:00 P.M. Mr. Randall Terry to discuss what he and other pro-life leaders will and will not do if healthcare passes and includes paying for child-killing, and what convulsions follow.

“Let all those in government be warned: They cannot order people to pay for the murder of babies, and betray God Himself, without horrific consequences.” — Randall Terry

Background: It is clear that many elements in the pro-abortion congress and White House want to force Americans to pay for the murder of the unborn in their “healthcare” program.

If that happens, it is tantamount to the government putting a gun to taxpayers’ heads to pay for the brutal murder of an innocent child. This is tyranny and evil of the highest order.

“Please understand: neither I, nor any thinking person wants the convulsions that would inevitably come from such a government policy — the decision to force Americans to pay for the murder of their neighbor.

“Nevertheless, the sheer horror and frustration of such an evil policy will lead some people to absolutely refuse to pay their taxes. And I believe — if my reading of history from America and around the world is correct — that there are others who will be tempted to acts of violence.

“If the government of this country tramples the faith and values of its citizens, history will hold those in power responsible for the violent convulsions that follow.” — Randall Terry

Time: 2:00 P.M.
Tuesday, July, 21, at the National Press Club.

No proven connection, at least not yet. Terry publicly came all over himself when it occurred, but so far there’s no direct link that I’ve heard of.

Hate to break the news to Randall Terry, but…

Isn’t it already the case in most states those people receiving federally subsidized health care can get abortions, included as part of the care?

Don’t need Socialized Medicine for that to be the case. We’ve already got it.

15 Russkilitlover  Mon, Jul 20, 2009 1:34:01pm

In the book “The Making of the Atomic Bomb” by Richard Rhodes, the author spends several really interesting pages describing the initial ignition of the first atomic bomb test ever. You can read step by step, in detail, every single nanosecond of what happens next within the core when the fuses are first fired until a mushroom cloud appears over the desert of New Mexico.

A few months ago, I used the analogy of Thelma and Louise at the end to describe the plunge into the abyss of the Conservative movement. I also described it here at one point as watching the opening of the Ark scene from Raiders of the Lost Ark when their faces start to melt.

Now I really should revise that and update it a bit more into watching every nanosecond of the triggering of an atomic bomb. That’s what watching the Conservative movement is like at the moment. It’s slow, it’s incredibly technical at times, and it will have an enormously destructive end.

18 Ben Hur  Mon, Jul 20, 2009 1:35:38pm

A recent supreme court case says that a state failing to offer abortions in state funded clinics is not an undue burden on the right to an abortion. The individual states can decide whether or not state funded institutions provide abortions.

Correct. He isn’t directly calling for violence - he’s “warning” that it will be a consequence of the actions he’s opposed to. The fact that his followers see this as a call to action isn’t prosecutable.

It would almost certainly be more profitable to look into his finances. Zealots have a habit of misspending their funds, because God tells them it’s OK. I’d bet there are some questionable transfers of funds, and maybe a decent tax violation or two in there.

It’s totally worth harassing him over, in any case.

Fair enough. I would make a distinction between those guilty of crimes, those guilty of inciting crimes and those who just shoot off their mouth on the fringes of legality in order to get press. Its the latter that should be ignored. The first two should have their life and liberty put away in a cage or ended depending on the severity of the crime.

True, that. Also, these group’s members feel threatened these days; although the GOP never went completely over to the dark side and openly embraced the religious kooks that gave them so much support, there was a certain comfort level available to the kooks when the GOP was in charge. They certainly weren’t getting their oppressive, fundamentalist theocracy enacted as quickly as they would like, but they weren’t faced with open hostility to their goals, either.

Now, that’s all changed. And the first thing they reach for, naturally, is the fire and brimstone.

You know, the US is still the wealthiest country on earth. Can’t we just buy an island somewhere to ship these assholes to? Send along the nirthers and troofers and Birchers and Paulians, and lots of 79-cent ham, and let them govern themselves, far far away from here.

80 zombie  Mon, Jul 20, 2009 1:52:33pm

The “problem” with abortions is that they’re cheap. As as such, they’re easily paid for and included in most proposed health plans.

What “oldschool” in #33 above is ranting about is a distorted, conspiracy-ized version of the fact that the Obama edition of socialized medicine will exclude certain very expensive things, like dental care and long long term expensive cancer care and MRIs and stuff like that. We can’t afford to give everybody in America Rockefeller-level treatment. So the basic care plan will be fairly rudimentary — it will be “free” to users but the level of care will be somewhat limited — expensive tests and treatments and long-term survival care will have to be doled out selectively, if at all.

But abortions are quick and inexpensive to perform, so aside from any ideological restriction that Randall Terry wants to impose, they almost certainly will be included in the plan.

If abortions were as expensive and difficult as liver transplants, they probably would be excluded from federal funding.

Personally, I don’t want to fund any nationalized health care, but if we are forced to, then all medical procedures should be included at the doctor’s discretion, and we shouldn’t let pressure groups dictate medical policy.

Fair enough. I would make a distinction between those guilty of crimes, those guilty of inciting crimes and those who just shoot off their mouth on the fringes of legality in order to get press. Its the latter that should be ignored.

Terry is not just a loudmouth or a publicity hound. He’s someone with a lot of crazed followers, and he is not just mouthing off when he threatens violence. It’s not a good idea to ignore or dismiss him — people who follow this freak have killed before, and probably will again.

Not just doctors in church. Abortion clinic murders, attacks on doctors. It is an evil pattern of those who justify vigilante murder because they don’t agree with the law.

If you want to fight abortion then teach better alternatives at home and in Church. The one thing more useless than trying to legislate morality is trying to force legislation with threats of violence.

100 karmic_inquisitor  Mon, Jul 20, 2009 1:56:44pm

Well as it stands now federal taxes are used for the purpose of executing prisoners and for weapons that kill our enemies (and a few unfortunate bystanders).

Now I understand that Randall Terry is a morally superior being to me and that I should not dare make a moral criticism of him (/sarc) but exactly how is it that he is not outraged at his tax dollars going to activities that violate “thou shall not kill?”

Or is the world a little more complicated than that? Well if it is, then how exactly will I be paying for abortions any more than I am paying to execute prisoners on death row?

Pretty much accurate - their health system isn’t like the UKs but it is standard European “everyone’s covered”. In all Dutch medical practice (not just psychiatric), the annual number of requests for euthanasia or PAS [Physician-assisted suicide] is estimated as around 9700 of which about 3600 (37%) are acceded to.)

Not sure I put this in the same category as the creepy RoP veiled threats we’ve become so used to because with the RoP a.) adherents becomes apoplectic at the thought of ridiculous and harmless things such as a picture of the prophet with a bomb in his hat or a young Muslim girl falling for a handsome young infidel (or the reverse: handsome Muslim/fetching infidel) and b) those making the veiled threat usually make it clear they thoroughly sympathize and agree with said violent reactions while mouthing their obviously feined “fear” of such actions. But I do agree this is somewhat in that direction.

My response is if your God is all they say He his then He doesn’t need His followers to go out and execute the come-uppances to the bad people. Like when bad things happen to good people He’ll use his omniscience and omipotence to mete out the just rewards/penalties in his usual strange and mysterious ways so don’t trouble your little head.

Yipes. I thought we were in trouble but not this much……

In New Report, Neil Barofsky Says It’s Possible Government Could Spend $23.7 Trillion to Fix Financial System

“The total potential federal government support could reach up to $23.7 trillion,” says Neil Barofsky, the special inspector general for the Troubled Asset Relief Program, in a new report obtained Monday by ABC News on the government’s efforts to fix the financial system.

Yes, $23.7 trillion.

“The potential financial commitment the American taxpayers could be responsible for is of a size and scope that isn’t even imaginable,” said Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., ranking member on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. “If you spent a million dollars a day going back to the birth of Christ, that wouldn’t even come close to just $1 trillion — $23.7 trillion is a staggering figure.”

Granted, Barofsky is not saying that the government will definitely spend that much money. He is saying that potentially, it could.

At present, the government has about 50 different programs to fight the current recession, including programs to bail out ailing banks and automakers, boost lending and beat back the housing crisis.

OUCH.

To explain the problem with the first sentence: Accusing other posters of being a “cool-kid” clique is almost guaranteed to be a losing/loser strategy, and here I speak from my own past foolishness on other blogs and websites. Apart from the fact that it insults other people to suggest that they’re a bunch of Heathers*, the clique accusation essentially violates the ancient Internet dictum “There is no cabal.” To put it another way, it’s a very mild form of conspiracy-theory thinking.

Admittedly, sometimes there really are cliques, but a good “razor” in these cases is that if 10 people seem to be ganging up on you, you should first consider and rule out the possibility that one of your posts managed to annoy 10 unconnected individuals simultaneously, before you start imagining that there’s a mob whispering behind your back.

Hmm… interesting choice of words there, “abortionist doctors”. That’s fundy-speak, just in case you missed the memo.

Second: you accuse me of knowing nothing about the Taliban, interesting, but you are trying to prove a negative. Good luck with that one. When a group of petty thugs makes threats of violence in the name of god, only to perpetuate their own geopolitical goals I label them as terrorists. I don’t much care if it’s a cross or a crescent, when you are at the business end of a gun those details fade, camera obscura, embedded tissue, sinew and bone, fractured in a fracture of a second, unable to repair, pieces strewn about, gray matter and dust. Stay up late with me sometime and we can both talk to the dead, and find a common ground, six feet of it mostly, but some still missing. What kind of god would want that?

We should be better than this.
