Man, I am out of breath from just watching that sax solo.

Speaking of musicians ... Chris Martin of Coldplay gets a bit of a bad rap sometimes. He can be political on stage, but the organization he is very involved with is OxFam. OxFam isn't as "dicey" as many other NGOs. And he got some unwarranted grief over stealing a riff from Kraftwerk for the song "Talk." But Kraftwerk gave the usage its blessing.

Isn't Joe Satriani and Cold play in the middle of a legal copywrite lawsuit right now? I thought I has heard that...

Great band..The production is top notch..

I went to see them in Hartford in Aug '08 and while I thought the show was only slightly disappointing, apparently the band really thought they sucked. So they added a date this spring and came back to Hartford and did a killer show (which sadly I was not at). But they gave the entire audience a special CD they've been working on ... 8 songs ... all live from the tour. I borrowed that bad boy and added to the nano. I thought that showed a lot of integrity, since it was Hartford and not a "sexier" place to come back to.

I used to listen to a lot of Chick Corea and remembered Stanley Clarke when he was still known as "Stan." The 1970's was a shitty decade for clothes, but very good for music.

In the News of the Weird:

There's a big dispute going on between psychology professionals and Wikipedia. Seems someone went and posted all ten Rorschach ink blots from the famous test on Wiki. The psychobabblers are up in arms because their precious "test" could be "compromised" by people seeing the bloody blots.

The more I read, the more convinced I am that the ink-blot nonsense is a prime example of pseudo-science sanctified by tradition and professional obfuscation (which we should all eschew, as we know).

If I'm ever required to tell someone what I see in those splotches, it'll go something like this:

Psychologist: "Image number one. What do you see?"

Cato: "An inkblot."

P: "Very well. Number two?"

C: "Another inkblot."

...

P: (speaking into Dictaphone): "Patient hopelessly intransigent. Danger to psychology. Recommend immediate institutionalization. Thorazine. Depakote. Shock treatment."

C: "Can I try again, please?"

74 mfarmer1  Wed, Jul 29, 2009 7:29:19pm

Only one thing comes to mind when I hear/see something like this...I'm taken back to the mid 1980's when I discovered a truly hysterical weekly show out of LA called Russian Television. Every week they had a musical performance or two. Thanks to the video here I somehow recalled the name of some band from Turkmenistan called "Gunesh." And thanks to Youtube, Gunesh lives. You have been warned.

Anyone else remember that show? Some of the other bands/artists were Djorgie Marjonovich? Ivo Lenka? Fralex? Sofia Rotaru? This is scaring me how I remember this stuff.

75 coloradobuff  Wed, Jul 29, 2009 7:45:27pm

Thanks, Charles. I've heard (and sometimes seen) various versions they have done of that chart (including the original studio version that I still have on vinyl somewhere), but that one is crazy! I remember thinking how much I liked the original, even though it had a significant cacophonous, "outside" quality to it. Very cool indeed.
