Years ago, my husband had a stepsister (teenager) who would go on about the Tom Petty song "You don't know what it's like to be me."
I never said anything, because she had had a hard life, but if nobody knows what it's like to be you, then it stands to reason that you don't know what its like to be someone else, do you? Sometimes the greatest hurts are hidden behind smiling eyes and a laugh. Lots of people choose not to wear their heartbreaks on their sleeves.
Give people a break, therefore.
Enough deep thinking. Chocolate is calling my name.

According to what I've read, he helped MJ use surgery-grade anaesthesia in place of sleeping pills. An anaesthetic that, when used in an operation, requires a team of monitors on hand to revive the patient if something goes wrong. Jackson requested to wake up at a certain time, the doc would set the drip to stop five minutes before that.
The kind of thing any ethical MD does for his patients...

According to what I've read, he helped MJ use surgery-grade anaesthesia in place of sleeping pills. An anaesthetic that, when used in an operation, requires a team of monitors on hand to revive the patient if something goes wrong. Jindal approves high-school diploma with lower standards
Gov. Bobby Jindal approved legislation Thursday creating a new public school curriculum with lowered academic standards, waving aside objections from education advocates who say the change will produce high school graduates who lack basic English and math skills.Jindal said the new program is part of the state's effort to produce a better-trained work force. He also said the new curriculum, focused on training students for blue collar jobs, would reduce the state's dropout rate.

Under the new law, students 15 and older could leave the standard curriculum and instead take a "career track" if they have parental approval. They would face easier requirements for graduation and a curriculum less geared toward college preparation. It would also allow eighth graders to advance to ninth grade without passing the state's high-stakes standardized test.Graduates would get a "career option" diploma, different from the state's standard diploma, designed to get them into a two-year technical school or community college but not four-year schools.
If it works it might be a slightly better option than dropping out. Maybe they can combine it with an apprenticeship program.

Anyone who wants to be a responsible voter in the modern world needs better than a high school education.
Anyone who wants a real job in the modern world needs better than a highschool education.
Jindal is doing nothing more than proposing that the cost of education is higher than the cost of a perpetual underclass.
I wrote a while back that many scientists are fed up with the anti-intellectualism and anti education stance that the GOP takes.
Our high school standards are some of the worst in the civilized world.
Let me give a very simple example.
How many of you think that calculus is "advanced" math?
In other nations, kids who are good at math learn it at age 14. That's when most of our kids are still being told that it doesn't matter if they can't figure out algebra 1.
I am totally sick of the intellectual laziness in this nation. Only a nation of near illiterates could think that folksy is better than informed.

This country also used to have an industrial economy where those people could get jobs. I would be all for making our own stuff again and not buying crap made in overseas sweatshops, but that would put the almighty Wall Mart out of business if we legislated it, and the average American wouldn't buy for higher priced quality over cheap and disposable anyway.

An engineer, a mathematician, and a physicist are all put in a room with a pretty girl and told that they can go half the distance to her every thirty seconds. The mathematician and the physicist leave, because they know that they will never reach her. The engineer stays, because he knows that he can get close enough to show her the functions on his new calculator.

Philosophers don't drink coffee!
There's nothing Nietzsche couldn't teach ya
'Bout the raising of the wrist.
Socrates, himself, was permanently pissed.
John Stuart Mill, of his own free will,
On half a pint of shandy was particularly ill.
Plato, they say, could stick it away--
Half a crate of whisky every day.
Aristotle, Aristotle was a bugger for the bottle.
Hobbes was fond of his dram,

While able to find fresh recruits to replace those killed and arrested it seems to have more difficulty replacing senior military trainers and other key operational figures. I also find it interesting how they've reacted to missile strikes in Pakistan. I assume that was before Obama stepped things up. Also this...
Othmani also described the group's frustration at having to pay for their own weapons and training -- at a cost of 1,300 euros each (about $1,800) -- which if true might lend credence to reports that al Qaeda has come under financial strain. Vinas, for his part, made no mention of having to make payments to his handlers.

You didn't miss much. And the Prom Queen was more interested in her future modeling career than me.
Miss July, however, well she is sitting in the other room, reading. A keeper.

Real tv died in the 80's. What we are currently seeing is the death throes.

I wonder how they will blame George Bush for this?
Prolonged aid to unemployed is running out
Over the coming months, as many as 1.5 million jobless Americans will exhaust their unemployment insurance benefits, ending what for some has been a last bulwark against foreclosures and destitution.
Because of emergency extensions already enacted by Congress, laid-off workers in nearly half the states can collect benefits for up to 79 weeks, the longest period since the unemployment insurance program was created in the 1930s. But unemployment in this recession has proved to be especially tenacious, and a wave of job-seekers is using up even this prolonged aid.
Tens of thousands of workers have already used up their benefits, and the numbers are expected to soar in the months to come, reaching a half-million by the end of September and 1.5 million by the end of the year, according to new projections by the National Employment Law Project, a private research group.

According to Othmani, al Qaeda fighters totaled between 300-500 in Pakistan's Tribal Areas - spread out in groups of 10. Such decentralization was a function of the growing deadliness of U.S. Predator strikes.
Hicham Beyayo, a Belgian jihadist volunteer, said the group moved around a lot because such strikes were known to be "very effective," his lawyer Christophe Marchand, told CNN.
The loss of an increasing number of operatives, stated Othmani, prompted an order from al Qaeda's top command for fighters to remain inside as much as possible. In order to keep in touch jihadists operated a courier service across the region, according to the Frenchman's testimony.
While the MQ-1 Predator can only carry 2 hellfire missiles this little program turns 70 mm rockets into laser guided missiles which the MQ-1 can carry more of until it's bigger brother MQ-9 Reaper becomes more common in the skys.

I disagree. People are sick of buying cheap Chinese junk...but you can't find quality goods. Especially mid-grade stuff geared for the middle class.

You save the Hellfires for groups or big names. Send the smaller missiles after the piss-ants.

You are right! NBC here had 'The Listener', from CTV on, for the summer...and they canceled it and put in repeats of 'Law and Order'.
The comments on NBC's comments for the show? People are furious. I hope that NBC wakes up.
During the day I usually watch news...nothing on re series, etc., is worth watching. back when I was a kid, and TV was in its' infancy, and it was all black and white? It was far better.

Well, Young'Un, I watched Howdy Doody, Buffalo Bob, etc. on our first black and white TV, and a lot of good kids' programs, and also I think that I prefer watching these to TV a lot of the time.
