OT: What a nice change in attitude from the folks at Google. First, a nod to Memorial Day with a little Google logo/link. Now, a special invite to US military personnel with a .mil address to use Google Voice, announced in the Google Blog. Check it out!
I waited over a year for a login to Google Voice, and it was worth the wait. One number for everything, with routing rules for handsets and speech-to-text voice mail that reaches me via email or sms. The one number feature and centralized web-based voicemail will be great for US military personnel anywhere to keep in touch with families.

I'm shocked. They won't even put up a special image on Memorial day, but at least they're doing this.
Of course, the paranoid part of me says they'll have someone listening in to spy on the military, or have figured out a way to get their computers to do it.

Writing from Cambridge, just a few short Red Line stops from the official site of CrowleyGates, I take offense to the depiction of Red Sox fans as slovenly and improperly shorn, however accurate that depiction might be. Even our Fenway heros on the field are lean, mean and properly coiffed these days - Manny, Damon, Schilling, and even the Babe himself are history.
I take solace in the fact the Mr President puked on the Yankee fan's shoes, thoguh. He's got my vote!

If you can't see the "doublespeak" that we are being fed by our current government, then please take a moment to read this.
On Breitbart... "Obama administration withholds data on program"
The Obama administration is refusing to release government records on its "cash-for-clunkers" rebate program that would substantiate—or undercut—White House claims of the program's success, even as the president presses the Senate for a quick vote for $2 billion to boost car sales.
Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said Sunday the government would release electronic records about the program, and President Barack Obama has pledged greater transparency for his administration. But the Transportation Department, which has collected details about 157,000 rebate requests, won't release sales data that dealers provided showing how much U.S. car manufacturers are benefiting from the $1 billion initially pumped into the program.

A bit early to go OT, but anyway,
Even the press sees through the State Department statements
Journalists covering the U.S. State Department are increasingly becoming frustrated over officials’ comments reporting “progress” in attempts to renew Israeli-Palestinian Authority talks despite opposition in the Arab world.State Department spokesmen for years have been trying to show optimism despite widening gaps in positions between Israel and the PA. The PA bargaining power has been strengthened by U.S. President Barack Obama’s insistence that Israel freeze all building for Jews in eastern Jerusalem, as well as in Judea and Samaria.
In the daily State Dept. briefing on Monday, one reporter asked spokesman Philip J. Crowley, “You described earlier the conversation between the Secretary and the Jordanian Foreign Minister as excellent…. And yet, for the second time in three days, you’ve had an Arab foreign minister come out and basically say, ‘No way, we’re not going to do anything that Mitchell or you or whoever has asked us to do.’ How can you say that there’s progress being made and that Mitchell is close to getting the two sides back to the table?"
Crowley replied with a standard answer: “I think that we are working hard to put ourselves in position for negotiations to begin. I think we are saying that there’s still work to do and... even as we have experienced some progress.”

I don't know the size of the magazines that those officers used, but most that I have seen for Glocks (which I assume is standard issue for many police departments) are around 15 to 17 rounds. So, 6 officers x 15 rounds per magazine = 90 rounds for the bunch. Obviously, they didn't fire all of their rounds (article says there were 59 shots fired, and the victim had 43 bullet wounds).

The question to really ask is "What's the real purpose of the cash for clunkers program. Obviously, if the accounts are true that most cars being purchased under the program are not GM or Chrysler related, then how was this program supposed to stimulate or help the economy and/or work toward repaying the taxpayer? I heard it was the administration's way of forcing people to buy "hybrids" etc. Makes sense considering the required complete destruction of the "clunker's" engine. No salvaging except for every other part of the vehicle. Some of these vehicle being traded in are still in pretty good condition, enough to pass them along very cheaply to lower income families who don't have a vehicle but who could certainly use one.
