Probably because it’s making Republicans look so good.

I commented in the previous thread that I find the 30% of independent voters who say "too little" seems unusually high, only 9% below the GOP. It seems the Dems and Independents should be on the same page, but there's quite a gap there.
If independent voters start jumping on the nirther band-wagon, it could be a serious political problem for Obama.
It's over, it's done, the birth certificate has been released, Obama was elected and certified.
Enough already, you low-life, basement-dwelling, DI shill, dipshit assholes who continue with the 'nirther nonsense. Get a fucking life and move on to more important issues like the health insurance debate.
Personally, I'd love to see the Nirth Certifikit nonsense get more coverage, and I'd love to see the Republican party realize how foolish it makes them look. Anything to get us back to a Reagan/Bush Sr. style "no new taxes, government is the problem" party instead of a "no gay marriage, evolution is the problem" party...
Nirthers are a complete and utter embarrassment, and should be mocked and exposed relentlessly until they learn to keep their stupid mouths shut before they doom us to permanent minority party status. Morons.
There is clearly a dirth of coverage of the nirth cirtifikat issue. We also need more coverage of Michael Jackson.
Just because the state of Hawaii, contemporary records, and the pattern and habit of parents from around the world arranging if at all possible that their child be born in the U.S. say he was born in Hawaii means nothing. Show me the direct, physical evidence of Obama evolving from his mother. What I come back to is this: belief in Obama's citizenship leads to euthanasia, piles, and bad breath.
It can't be true because I don't want it to be true. Lalalala I can't hear you.
Q...what did you think when your girlfriend said she saw an image of Jesus
A...I can't really say too much...I think she's really hot and I don't want to screw it up...
Which conservative talk radio hosts are pushing this nonsense? I only listen to a few - Dennis Prager, Hugh Hewett, sometimes Michael Medved - and they never promote this lunacy.
Darn ... a majority of Democrats think there is too much coverage. There goes my theory that the whole "birther" controversy is a plot by democrats to make republicans look like idiots. I hate it when facts get in the way of my preconceptions.

It doesn't have to be the Democrat rank & file. All it takes is some highly
placed Dem's like, oh I don't know Emanuel?

Rush Limbaugh has given it credibility. Mark Levin has too.

I wasn't sure if I should up ding this or not. Heavy on the sarc here, right?
I think those are the ones who are enjoying the embarrassment of Republicans. Judging from the reactions we've seen here on LGF when Republicans say they want more coverage, they mean they want more coverage supporting the Nirt Cert, not debunking it.
Somebody sent me a link the other day where SpaceJesus went over to the Stalker Blog and just literally trashed those fuckers..I have a new respect for that dude...He calls it the way he sees it and pulls no punches with hypocrites.
Damn SJ...You got some big balls.. Kudo's...
re: #13 Charles
I think the image looks more like Paul Giamotti from the movie, "Liar Liar." But you probably couldn't get a news crew to film your toilet with that. My guess is that this Woman is still smarter than people who believe in the Nirther nonsense.
The label of “birther” is fast becoming a noble badge of honor for millions of Americans who are not willing to let their Constitution die without a good ole patriot’s fight!
The leftist Obama propaganda press would love for you to believe that “birthers” are just a bunch of “crazy racists” that number in the hundreds, and that they have NO basis to demand proof of whom and what Barack Hussein Obama really is…
But the “birthers” actually number in the millions and the basis for their demands were set in stone by the men who wrote and ratified the US Constitution.

Shut up you, let me continue to think that 14% of Dems really are that ignorant.

Oh it's more than that, look how many think that 9/11 was an inside job.
nirthers and troofers ... if only they could pursue each other across the galaxy, and wrestle each other into nothingness in front of leonard nimoy and possibly nessie depending on which retro tv channel showed the live coverage

Clear proof doesn't seem to influence either group.
However the Republicans by no means have a corner on the loon community. IMO. the Dems had a big head start & are hanging on.
nirthers and troofers ... if only they could pursue each other across the galaxy, and wrestle each other into nothingness in front of leonard nimoy and possibly nessie depending on which retro tv channel showed the live coverage
Wouldn't it be nice 'n clean to have both lunacies cancel each other out like a mathematical equation?
They meet - POOF - away goes stupid.
/ one can dream, can one not?
At a time when the GOP should be slamming on all cylinders against the Obama health care plan and the cash for clunkers debacle and the cap'n tax, we're getting nirtherism as being a top priority for the party to focus on?
Are you kidding me?
How many times do we have to go over this. Nirtherism isn't going to lead to any satisfactory conclusion. A) You don't have standing to sue; B) the facts are against you - and the COLB is sufficient proof (if Obama's mother wasn't a US citizen that is). If you want to get your rage on - go to a Cubs game or a Mets game and scream in futility as your team implodes or self-destructs, or does its usual disappearing act.
You aren't going to convince people that Obama is a US citizen no matter what's provided at this point, but it does serve a convenient distraction all while Democrats continue their agenda with an inept and futile GOP looking on helplessly.
How exactly does this get the GOP to regain Congress and eventually the WH? It doesn't.
It certainly isn't going to convince people that the GOP in the wilderness have learned their lesson.
It's time for the GOP to straighten up and fly right. That means dropping this crapola in the strongest of language and pushing with the strongest language to contain the Democrat health policy and cap'n tax policies.
The nation's mood isn't amenable to the health care policy - it's an issue tailor made for the GOP and they could squander it with a needless focus on this.
nirthers and troofers ... if only they could pursue each other across the galaxy, and wrestle each other into nothingness in front of leonard nimoy and possibly nessie depending on which retro tv channel showed the live coverage
Agreed. I would like nothing more than to see both groups of dementoids* crash and burn.
that was all said months ago...it's getting much worse...not to sound like a doomster but what now?...the GOP needs these voters to win elections, not on principle but with sheer numbers...it's our Brave New World...I don't see them going away suddenly
I have a hard time with many polls especially if as an example there are only 988 respondents.
Many people just don't answer polls when asked and many couldn't tell me the capitol of their own state if asked, So really...do I care about their opinions ?
Okay off topic, can anyone really filter new material sent to flag@whitehouse.gov for something on the web they don't already know? Isn't this just a way to get people involved and imagine someone in the government is listening?

Rush Limbaugh was criticizing the new health care logo yesterday. It looks like a Nazi emblem. Glenn Beck opposed it yesterday on the grounds that old people will be executed. I give up. Until rational voices start speaking from the right I have no interest seeing them back in charge of the country.

I'd prefer to see a survey of registered or likely voters. People who are cranks and don't vote have zero impact on elections.
Here's probably a closer image, by using clues in the Bible, and skulls from that era. I was surprised to learn he would have been 5'1", 110 pounds, if he was as typical as the Bible reports.

This Administration has a herd of elephants in the room. The GOP has a wide variety of strong opposition choices, many of which would receive Dem, Rep, and Ind support. Keeping the fringe stuff in the news makes them pathetically weak.

There is something to what you say. Still, those people who don't know their own state capitals don't just answer polls. They also vote.
You should care about their opinions. We're dealing with a bunch of ideologues who govern by "buzz" rather than by reality or the public interest.
The more often people point out the Emperor's nudity, the faster we can get through the Obama Dark Ages.
It's tough, who knows what is the hearts of men? But the high correlation with Southerners is pretty sticky.
Correlation does not imply causation, but ... damn.
If we're talking about this particular poll, where is there a regional breakdown in the information? The one a few days ago had a regional breakdown, but this one doesn't (or I can't find it if it does).
About those dumb 'Joker' posters of Obama -- while I think there are grounds to argue about whether it's an example of veiled racism -- from both sides -- I also think it's beyond stupid the way some bloggers have been adopting the Joker images as if they're something to be proud of.
It's nothing to be proud of -- it's crass, and it smells of racism to a lot of people. Shoving it in everyone's face the way some of these people are doing is idiotic.

Is there a photo of it somewhere?
DOES it look like a Nazi emblem? If so, it's a fair critique no matter who the messenger is, no?

Very odd that a lot of depictions of a young Jesus look so Scandinavian.

During a WH press conference, Gibbs was asked about the archiving system. Every email sent, must be archived so if an angry progressive forwards an email written by someone else, it's archived without the original sender's knowledge.
I imagine the emails will be collected more for Obama's perpetual fundraising activities vs any political hit list.

They can probably screen the mass e-mails already in circulation, and just find the latest Obamagates to refute.
I find if you get one, I can find thousands more on the web shortly.
Exactly as how do we know that the person who is answering the poll is a total mental midget
That's the idea of a poll. It is a random sample. You may get mental midgets and you may get master degreed people, all mixed up. That's what helps make a poll fair. Are you suggesting only people with a certain level of education should be allowed to answer polls?
If we're talking about this particular poll, where is there a regional breakdown in the information? The one a few days ago had a regional breakdown, but this one doesn't (or I can't find it if it does).

It's just not known what he really looked like, but I think that it's safe to say that he did not look like a guy named Olsen, ice fishing in Minnesota.
I'll bet you that a sizable percentage of the Dems who said that there was either too little or the right amount of coverage, are thinking about how "good" this makes the GOP look.
Is Rush kidding? It a fucking caduceus. It's been used as a symbol for thousands of years. I have ancient roman coins with a caduceus on it. Is this guy totally crazy?

Yeah, this is what I'm thinking. No way they would parse for some dubious attack. It is more likely they use the emails gathered for spam down the road.

Much like the way the mildly extreme on the left kept going with the Bushilter meme.
Where did you find a thing like that? During the election they sold McCain TP and Hillary nutcrackers and for the longest time they had George Bush toilet brushes, but I didn't find anything of the sort for Obama. Someone tried to Sell Obama sock monkeys and they were shut down.

There is a small industry going printing them up for sale, but I find them offensive. Sure the left did some of that, but those images were not that popular as far as I recall.

Exactly. It's like people proudly labelling themselves "right wing extremists". Just nuts. I can't understand the logic.

Well, there was the Obama Chia Pet. But it was declared racist and yanked from shelves. Sadly, before I could buy one.
Well, for one thing, Chicago actually had a white-on-black race riot within the last 100 years, in which people were killed, which New York never did. Both cities have had black race riots.
The races are much more vocally and violently polarized in Chicago than in New York; it is much easier to get yourself killed for being the wrong race in the wrong neighborhood in Chicago. I have heard a lot more whites use the "N" pejorative casually in Chicago than I ever have in New York; the hostility between people of different races is much more in the open in Chicago. Neighborhoods in Chicago tend to be more homogenous (though this is less true than it used to be) than in New York, so "outsiders" are more easily tagged.
Is that explanation enough?
Actually no. I have seen some very vitriolic racism in New York.
Is there racism in Chicago? Sure there is, but there is plenty in New York & nobody with any certainty can say which is worse. New York has its share.

Racism Inc. is going through another burst of growth...profits are off the scale right now and expected to continue their meteoric rise for at least the next three years...investments are pouring in...etc
Oh, good grief. THAT'S what Rush was calling a Nazi symbol?
The ignorance. It burns.
I also listen to the excerpt, Rush wasn't being silly about it. Maybe it was edited out of context by Media Matters but I don't doubt that he was being serious.
And they completely miss the whole thing. The Caduceus with a globe at the base has a similar silhouette to that Eagle on an inverted lollipop of the nazis.
Although they may have a valid point further down when they quote someone saying that Orly Taitz may be Sasha Baron Cohen playing a joke.
I have a hard time with many polls especially if as an example there are only 988 respondents.

The whole point of a poll, is if there's a properly sized sample, that it can prove to be valid and useful for the questions posed. Usually polls of this size are in the range of 900-1100 respondents.
Now, you might have a more valid point about the number of people who refused to answer questions. I got called to do a political survey yesterday in NJ, but declined b/c I was on my way out of the house. Some people might decline for other reasons, but that can influence the outcome.
A snapshot poll is one thing, but this is yet another poll that points in the same direction, adding legitimacy to the outcome of this individual poll.
What I am still wondering, from the last time this came up, is how does anybody know what Jesus and the Virgin Mary look like?
They have photos? What?
Do you know the Lenny Bruce bit about that?
He has a great rant about Moses and Jesus going to St. Patrick's in NY. The Cardinal calls the Pope to tell him about who is visiting.
Your Holiness, I have an Emergency... Moses and Jesus are here.
I'm pretty sure it's them, your Holiness, I mean I've only ever seen pictures and stained glass, but I'm pretty sure.
They're the ones in the back who are glowing.
No Sir, Of course they're white,
but they look so, so, JEWISH. but that's not the real problem.
But your Holiness, I have a problem with Jesus. He says that they came here through Spanish Harlem and saw fifty hungry kids living in one tenement room... He want's to know why I have an $8000 ring on my finger.
Ride a bus or train in Chicago. I'm not going to cite comments I've heard. Buzz must have overheard the same.
I do quite a bit, I live there. You can get in to trouble in any big city.
I really don't find Chicago unusually racist compared to other places that I have been.
70% of Democrats support Barney Frank's and Chris Dodd's handling of
Fannie Mae .
Fannie Mae posted news this hour of $14.8 second qt. loss.
Fannie mae:
"Total nonperforming loans in our guaranty book of business were $171.0 billion on June 30, 2009, compared with $144.9 billion on March 31, 2009, and $119.2 billion on December 31, 2008."

Agreed, sir. My first reaction when I saw it wasn't to think of Heath Ledger, but of Stepin Fetchit. (Yes, I'm dating myself, here.)
Actually, the member of The Batman's rogues' gallery I think most closely resembles our present POTUS is Edward Negma alias' The Riddler. Both use mind games and deceptive words to convince others to do things which they are led to believe will be to their benefit- but in the end only benefit The Riddler (and POTUS). And both laugh- and sneer- at their victims behind their victims' backs.
Another similar example from Gotham is The Penguin, real name Oswald Cobblepot III. He is fond of building complex interlocking chains of false fronts and corrupted businesses based on the "mutual self-interest" of others whom he convinces that he is their friend- but in the end all the money, and the power that goes with it, ends up with him. Sound familiar, anyone?
Something else both have in common with The One; they will betray anyone, even their own fellow criminals, in a heartbeat, not just to make a fast buck or a faster getaway, but often just to prove they're smarter than everybody else.
The fact that The Batman, plus a few others (notably Catwoman) keep nailing these two and slinging them behind bars should make them realize that they aren't as smart as they think they are. But try convincing any practicing narcissist of that.
Come to think of it, that's yet another thing they have in common with The One.
To add to what your saying. There are just certain people who are very knowledgable who don't like to disclose their opinions to total strangers.
I know that many Jews as an example would never disclose their religion even if asked in a poll.
Did they ever do a study on who doesn't answer polls and why
Texas is Texas, a region all its own. Ask any Texan.
South is probably - Louisiana, Arkansas, Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, Tennessee, maybe parts of Kentucky, Virginia, some parts of Florida, the Carolinas - did I miss any?
I think they gathered up my name in the Great Armywife/Prairie Fire Post on the Obama Blog Scandal of 2008, or as we like to call it, Armywifeprairiefiregate.
I've lived in both places, and I think that Chicago need not claim "Second City" status in the racism department. But certainly there is plenty to go around, and New York, as you say, has its share too.
Yeah that's all that I am saying. Either way It's nothing to be proud of.
The need to work more hours to pay the taxes for the loon Obama health care deal will cause a huge spike in energy use and will will all drown from the global warming when we heat up the planet just to pay the intrest on the debt to cover the borrowing alone.
CO2 capital gain taxes on Cap and Trade will not save us.

Southern Illinois. They have that beloved southern accent.
Okay, Rush is off his rocker. He should have compared it to Obama's symbol he used in the election. Why does he have to stamp everything with that bloody thing anyway?
On the issue of mocking the president or the highest elected official, countries have differing views of what is acceptable.
In Germany the chancellor Angela Merkel is often depicted on the covers of political satire magazines. The images come of as misogynistic or purposefully ugly-sexy. Yet not one of these images created even a 'storm in a water glass'. Image 1, 2, 3.

Marketing. It creates brand identity.
Once his approval ratings drop a bit more and associating programs with the man becomes a detriment, you'll see a lot less of it.

Hi Steve, Detroit is a whole other thing. There is rampant poverty & the City is broke too.
If you have business downtown in the Rennisance Center, they advise you to race out of the garage to the Lodge Freeway & don't stop for anything until you get to Southfield. They need jobs.
Okay, Rush is off his rocker. He should have compared it to Obama's symbol he used in the election. Why does he have to stamp everything with that bloody thing anyway?

I hate the MSM, FOX, Rush, Beck, all of them equally...pimps and whores...

Louisiana then, but only on occasion. Have friends there I've visited over the years.
Wife's immediate family is spread across Florida.
Just to get this out there. I don't subscribe to the notion that only Republicans are racist (Bill Maher is the current person pushing this B.S.), we saw some pretty spirited Democrats unabashedly present their opinions on why they wouldn't vote for a black man for president during the last primaries.
The Joker has been applied as an analogy for a zillion politicians. He lies, he pretends to be what he is not, he always screws the people in the end, etc...
If conflating Obama with a comic book character is considered "racist" then free-speech is already dead. Log onto Serve.Gov for further instructions...

I have yet to see any Obama cartoon that compares to the sheer hatred, racism and vitriol of Danziger's Condi cartoon.
Yes. A more sinister version. I don't think either one was/is appropriate.
ya know...when I saw the pic of GWB, I wasn't offended as much as I thought it was hateful...I don't know why, but when I see the Obama one, it does seem racist, but I don't know why.
Nancy-Ann DeParle, President Barack Obama’s health policy czar, served as a director of corporations that faced scores of federal investigations, whistleblower lawsuits and other regulatory actions, according to government records reviewed by the Investigative Reporting Workshop at American University.
Several of the companies were investigated for alleged kickbacks or engaging in other illegal billing schemes, while others were accused of serious violations of federal quality standards, including one company that failed to warn patients of deadly problems with an implanted heart defibrillator. Several of the cases ended with substantial fines paid to the federal government, even though the companies admitted no wrongdoing.
Since leaving her government job running Medicare for the Clinton administration, DeParle built a lucrative private-sector career. Records show she earned more than $6.6 million since early 2001, according to a tally by the Investigative Reporting Workshop.
Much of that corporate career was built at companies that have frequently had to defend themselves against federal investigations. After leaving government, DeParle accepted director positions at half a dozen companies suspected of violating the very laws and regulations she had enforced for Medicare. Those companies got into further trouble on her watch as a director.
Now she’s back in government as a leading voice in deciding the shape of health care reform. Named by Obama in March as director of the White House Office of Health Reform, making $158,000 a year, DeParle is the point person in pushing for the administration’s plans for changing health care and the ways Americans pay for it — changes in which her former companies have a great deal at stake.
Critics see DeParle’s re-emergence as a classic case of Washington “revolving door” syndrome, despite Obama’s suggestions that he would shut that door.
The administration faces a “balancing act,” said Steve Ellis of the nonpartisan Taxpayers for Common Sense. Obama must find leaders with the proper expertise, but who are “not so conflicted that they cannot engage in all facets of the debate.”
Advocates of a “single-payer” coverage plan say that DeParle may be indebted to the companies she served, and more broadly to the health care industry.
“This woman owes her fortune to the corporations that she is making decisions about,” said Dr. David Himmelstein, an associate professor of medicine at Harvard University and a co-founder of Physicians for a National Health Program.
“She cashed in really big on her previous role in government and made millions and millions of dollars. Then she divests and all of a sudden she’s Snow White. It’s ridiculous.”...
The Mason Dixon runs through Maryland so technically parts of it are "The South", and as a Marylander I'd say parts of it also conform to some of the more negative stereotypes of "The South". Not as badly as the "Deep South" however.
Hi Steve, Detroit is a whole other thing. There is rampant poverty & the City is broke too.
If you have business downtown in the Rennisance Center, they advise you to race out of the garage to the Lodge Freeway & don't stop for anything until you get to Southfield. They need jobs.
I also listen to the excerpt, Rush wasn't being silly about it. Maybe it was edited out of context by Media Matters but I don't doubt that he was being serious.
Rush is losing it.
The DCCC already is circulating a petition about it.
At a time when families are looking for solutions to rebuild the economy and make health care more affordable, Rush Limbaugh is attempting to sidetrack the important debate through his use of symbols that are synonymous with murder, intolerance and genocide.
Sign our petition calling on Republicans to denounce Rush's comments comparing Democrats to Nazis
ya know...when I saw the pic of GWB, I wasn't offended as much as I thought it was hateful...I don't know why, but when I see the Obama one, it does seem racist, but I don't know why.
I didn't see it as racist but it is creepy as hell.
I have to say, when I first saw it 'racist' never crossed my mind. I got The Joker reference attached to the word 'socialism'. To me, it was about his policies.
I see nobody has spent much time around Detroit...that's cool...racism and it's repercussions are a large part of their post war history
Detroit is the most racially polarized city in the nation. And when you include the surrounding region, it gets even worse.
And there is no solution. At the moment, the population within the city proper sports a 50% functional illiteracy rate. Even if companies wanted to locate in the city limits, they would have to import nearly all of their help from elsewhere. And no matter what anyone does, Detroit will be stuck with that problem for several generations.
I've heard that the War on Terror (horrible name BTW) is over. Why are we still killing these poor, misunderstood, Pakastani Community Activists?
/
I never liked the war term. Wars have a start date and a end date and are declared. The fight against terrorists can go on forever. i.e. it looks like a terrorist just got more fight then he could handle, but we were not at war with Pakistan.
A really bad thing to say, I agree. Is there a petition to stop Nancy from doing the same darn thing? Or all the lovely references on DU to our military being nazis? (please don't make me gather them up, the decon showers are hot and they hurt, but I will).
We need to stop using this term so flippantly. It is hurtful to both sides.
Stepin Fetchit may have been made into a byword of terrible stereotype by the later civil rights movement, but he was a huge star in black vaudeville before he went to the movies (how/why do you think he got into the movies?)--and, like the Wayans brothers and Dave Chapelle, who poke fun at black stereotypes today, was extremely popular with black audiences until styles changed.
I know. But he also used the "whiteface" thing to poke fun at black stereotypes of whites- a fact often overlooked in these more politically correct times.
I personally thought it took a pretty brave man to do that back then, but that's just me.
Once his approval ratings drop a bit more and associating programs with the man becomes a detriment, you'll see a lot less of it.
He really does like to plaster his name and brand everywhere. Remember that "Office of the President Elect" sign that he stuck on all his podiums? That was just bizarre.
I'll give you that. I only lived in Texas a short time (husband was in the Navy, actually) and never got a racist vibe from the people I worked with. Other parts of the state may be different.
The Joker has been applied as an analogy for a zillion politicians. He lies, he pretends to be what he is not, he always screws the people in the end, etc...
If conflating Obama with a comic book character is considered "racist" then free-speech is already dead. Log onto Serve.Gov for further instructions...
Would you at least admit disrespect for the office of the POTUS by the image and the socialist label ?
But surely you See the difference , Condi is a Republican & therefore fair game for racist slurs. Did yo see the cartoon of her as a thick lipped bird?.
Obama on the other hand is "Progressive" & to even imply that he is not at the very least a demi-god is a prima fascia case of racism

Few in the city are capable of holding jobs; see above for it's abyssal illiteracy rate. And the city government has made things even more attractive by imposing a $9.50 per hour minimum wage - if you also pay for full medical and other benefits. If not, the rate jumps to $14.50. So even jobs that people who can't read might be qualified for aren't available, because no one pays that kind of money for completely unskilled labor.
Heh, Republicans aren't allowed to criticise Rush. Everybody knows that.
Heh. The DCCC handles that too...they have an automated apology form for Republicans to apologise to Rush. It's hilarious. (They'll also mail it to Rush for you)
He's a preening little cockatoo. God forbid the real world ever intrudes on his pathetic little gilded existence.
Barry can't handle a simple speech without state-of-the-art assistance, how on Earth can he deal with the real world?
I only saw 'em much later - during the We Can't Dance Tour, but they put on quite the show. I have all their stuff, but my favorites are Selling England by the Pound and the Mama album.
The Mason Dixon runs through Maryland so technically parts of it are "The South", and as a Marylander I'd say parts of it also conform to some of the more negative stereotypes of "The South". Not as badly as the "Deep South" however.
The Mason Dixon line separates Maryland from Pennsylvania and it truly is the split from North to South. Maryland had split sympathies between Union and Confererate forces and had to be almost forcibly kept in the union camp. The split loyalties exist to this very day.
However, if you go to RushLimbaugh.com right now in the orange banner at the top of the website, you will see a headline: "Was Pelosi So Wrong About Swastikas?" Steve Gilbert at Sweetness & Light heard my reaction to the Obama health care logo the other day. I mentioned something about it reminded me of Germany in 1942, the shape of the logo, the people. I said, "I haven't seen this in many, many years." And if you go and take a look at this, you will find that the Obama health care logo is damn close to a Nazi swastika logo. I'm going to show you people watching on the Dittocam this, and there you are. The middle frame is the Obama health care logo. At the bottom is an official Nazi logo, eagle and everything, spread wings, or bird with spread wings. Ms. Pelosi has some major apologizing to do. I know that numerous repeated Botox injections can cause blurry vision, but I don't think Ms. Pelosi can use that as an excuse. They are really unraveling. They are really falling apart. Listen to her again. This is at San Francisco General Hospital. Do you think there is a legitimate grassroots opposition going on here?

It would be refreshing to see humorists actually use humor.
A really bad thing to say, I agree. Is there a petition to stop Nancy from doing the same darn thing?
Not so far as I know. This is another way the GOP is in a shambles right now. They really don't tap the potential for online activism the way the Dems currently do.

The place is a total mess. Detroit used to be the place to go where there was always jobs in the auto industry. Very sad actually
Good thing the Democrats never called Bush Hitler.
I thought that was pretty awful, myself. I don't like the Obama joker poster because it's ugly and crass. I also didn't like the pictures of McCain as a vampire or Bush as Hitler. I hate that stuff and I think it lowers our discourse.
The liberal talk show host hoping for Glenn Beck's suicide is also disgusting, IMO.
Even though I'm still upset with him, I liked Michael Steele's response to this. The Right doesn't do grassroots well for a number of reasons (jobs, for instance), but when they do they get slapped with angry mob in nice suit monikers. The Left doesn't understand they ought to look in the mirror before they look out the window.

So, when is the DNC going to call on Pelosi to apologize for comparing republicans to nazis?
When hell freezes over?
Fact check, she said:
"They're carrying swastikas and symbols like that to a town meeting on health care,"
I did not see any swastikas, but did see Nazi SS ones, so her comment was not that far off. BTW, I don't care for the women, but it was the protester making the NAZI comparison to Obama, not her to the protesters.
How about this: each person is responsible for their individual statements and actions.
Great concept, but it flies in the face of so many thing- like the "root causes" theory of crime causation.
Which means its unlikely to garner much support in the circles of political leadership, which stands by its constituencies and is ever on the lookout for a scapegoat to punish, either to protect those constituencies or just to feel good about itself.

Yes, I see that. And I raise you the Beck poisoning Pelosi's wine comment.
ormer Virginia Attorney General Bob McDonnell (R) has opened up a statistical lead over his Democratic rival in the race for governor, according to new polls out of the Old Dominion, and some political observers say a public souring on President Obama could be the cause.
The latest poll, conducted for the liberal DailyKos website by the independent polling firm Research 2000, shows McDonnell with a 51 percent to 43 percent lead over state Sen. Creigh Deeds (D). That's up from a statistically insignificant one-point margin between the two in a mid-June poll.
In the new poll, both men have healthy leads among their bases, though McDonnell does noticeably better among Democrats than Deeds among Republicans. McDonnell also sports a 55 percent to 40 percent lead among independent voters.
In total, though, little has happened within the Commonwealth to suggest a McDonnell surge. That leads some to conclude that Obama's souring approval ratings are dragging his party down as well.
"For better or worse, the president is perceived as being the leader of [his] party, and as goes fortunes of that presidential leader, often go the political fortunes of the people below them," said Michael McDonald, a political scientist at George Mason University.
I consider myself a member of the loyal opposition. But don't people find it the slightest bit curious that Obama has to create a whole series of logos to fulfill his agenda. He's far more interested in image than he is in substance.
That goes for the health policy prescriptions too. He's more interested in sweeping statements than providing leadership (probably because he wouldn't know how to govern or provide leadership.

Do you want to know what the problem is, or how this has become a problem?
Americans have been smacked over the head for almost 50 years now, told over and over again it is not polite, not nice, not multicultural, not politically correct, it's just a no-no to make fun of each other. This has mainly been driven my a progressive "can't we all just get along" mindset.
Well, no we can't and there is times in real politic that points have to be made, and had been traditional to make those points in graphic art, word and deed.
But slowly, the progressives have brainwashed us into believing that everything can be solved by "talking." I put talking in quotes because the method of talking has nothing to do with the reality of how we normally communicate.
The "talk" they have create is a non-committal, pablum method of communication that is designed to eliminate conflict and discourse before it even starts.
For a matter of fact, someone 50 years ago said it all in a book. And of course you know it as 1984. Those methods of language manipulation and information control that is portrayed in the book is the very way that progressives try to maintain the dialog.
My suggestion, keep talking, keep shouting, make you point, stick to facts, critical thinking and don't let them cower you.
It is unsurprising that much of the research to date has focused on the amygdala (the part of the brain involved with emotions and aggression) and the orbitofrontal cortex (which deals in decision making). However, an unstudied area is the uncinate fasciculus (UF), a white matter region that connects the amygdala and the orbitofrontal cortex. While the UF may not have a direct behavioral role, its dysfunction may lead to abnormalities in the areas which it connects.
Using a precise form of MRI, Murphy studied the brains of those labeled as psychopaths who had been convicted of crimes ranging from manslaughter to repeated rapes. The imaging found “a significant reduction in the integrity of the small particles that make up the structure of the UF of psychopaths, compared to control groups of people with the same age and IQ. Also, the degree of abnormality was significantly related to the degree of psychopathy.”

This is not grass roots, it is MOBS. Don't you understand that?
//
The only racism I can construe from the Obama-Joker poster is that he is a black guy painted white. IE Obama is doing 'white face'.
I can see that as offensive, but I don't think that your stereotypical white racist would be motivated in accusing Barack Obama of 'acting white' for any reason. I also think it's pretty obvious that the commentary intended is Obama as 'The Joker', and to find racism as the motive for that commentary is hypersensitive at best, willful at worst.
It's easy to get offended when 'your guy' is getting dissed, but I think everyone needs to just get over the perpetual outrage at having it done. We've been doing it to presidents for over two centuries now and I don't think it's going to stop anytime soon no matter how many make fools of themselves doing the criticism or how many peoples feelings they hurt either.
I consider myself a member of the loyal opposition. But don't people find it the slightest bit curious that Obama has to create a whole series of logos to fulfill his agenda. He's far more interested in image than he is in substance.

the whole logo thing is pure Wall Street marketing...I find it most distasteful, but then I'm old fashioned I guess...it's all part of AmIdol politics...style over substance, and we are getting mass doses from the BO admin
One of my liberal friends admits that the horrible pics/cartoons of Bush and Condi were bad form, but says they were deserved. He's hollering from the rafters over the Obama joker, but refuses to see how it was just as bad as those of done of Condi.
I think that everywhere people on opposing sides discuss/debate/argue politics, double standards are the name of the game - pointing out the other party's double standards while at the same time explaining away your own.
Even though I'm still upset with him, I liked Michael Steele's response to this. The Right doesn't do grassroots well for a number of reasons (jobs, for instance), but when they do they get slapped with angry mob in nice suit monikers. Well...I dislike this myth that activists on the left don't have jobs. We do. I think it's a bad idea for the right to console itself with this idea that "we don't do grass roots because we're all at work, not like those DFHs!"
And the activists on the left get tarred by its own extremist members as well. It's fun for people to mock some lunatic with a paper-maiche puppet head and ignore the thousands of normal people who were at a rally, for example.
There's a huge grass roots advantage that the left has right now, especially in terms of utilizing the Internet. The right is playing catchup.
Despite the ugly images the media protrays, what is the feel of the country of her leadership, in your opinion?
Angela Merkels approval ratings are currently far higher than any other politician in Germany. The figure that is way more important though is that her CDU/CSU are leading the other contender for electing a chancellor the SPD by a wide margin. The former political powerhouse SPD (social-democrats) is currently at an abysmally low 20%, an historical low.
The downside is that a new left-wing party has formed out of the remainder of the GDR's unity socialist party. This party 'Die Linke' is fishing in the same murky electoral pond as the far-right NPD and DVU with the disappointed and enraged populace who easily fall for demagoguery and big ideology.

That reminds me - why aren't we talking about the most important news of the day, Paula Abdul's departure?

Didn't know that, thanks KT - maybe Rush didn't either(from earlier in the linked transcript):
RUSH: Nancy Pelosi is the Speaker of the House. She is very powerful, one of the most powerful people in the country. This is what I mean by unraveling. She's running around now claiming that we're Nazis, that not only are we an unruly mob but that people are showing up wearing swastikas when, in fact, I have a story here from the Washington Post, Howard Kurtz, July 28, 1997: "Two senators call a news conference to present an average, hardworking American who -- to their embarrassment -- turns out to have a Nazi swastika tattooed on his arm. Is that news? Several major media organizations didn't think so. The West Virginia truck driver was trotted out by Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va.) and Minority Leader Tom Daschle (D-S.D.) as someone who would be helped by the Clinton tax plan. Rockefeller, clearly unaware of the tattoo, introduced the man as 'a very close and personal friend.'"
This nirther stuff is just nuts. What's wrong with these people??
For example, take just a few examples from Ann Coulter's column today:
Which party contains 99 percent of the people who believe (or believed):
-- O.J. is innocent;
-- Bush shirked his National Guard duty;
-- Sarah Palin's infant child, Trig, was actually the child of her daughter;
-- Justice Antonin Scalia threw the 2000 election to Bush so that his son could get a legal job with the Labor Department;
-- The spectacularly guilty Mumia Abu-Jamal was framed;
-- The Diebold Corp. secretly stole thousands of Kerry votes in 2004;
-- Duke lacrosse players gang-raped a stripper;
-- Bill Clinton did not have sex with "that woman";
-- Heterosexuals are just as likely to contract AIDS as gays;
-- John Edwards didn't have an affair with Rielle Hunter;
-- John Edwards' campaign aide Andrew Young is the father of Rielle Hunter's child.
And as has been recently noted, a 2007 Rasmussen poll showed that 35 percent of Democrats believe Bush knew about the 9/11 attacks in advance, while 26 percent aren't sure ...
KT, if I told you that I went to a Tea Party and I saw people hoisting Swastikas what impression would that give you? Pelosi's statement while technically accurate was also duplicitous. There was no implication that people were crassly comparing Democrats and their policies to Nazis, just that there were people carrying Swastikas to townhalls.
Nirthers are a complete and utter embarrassment, and should be mocked and exposed relentlessly until they learn to keep their stupid mouths shut before they doom us to permanent minority party status. Morons.
If their was something to It I would days keep it up. Their is no evidence to support the claims.
And some lefties called Bush a Nazi, and I ignored both.
The people calling Obama a socialist are referring to his earlier statements and positions. When you look at his current policies, it's more akin to economic fascism.
If you don't mind Obama shaking you down for cash, send away.
I went to a website to see if I was registered to vote in my new neighborhood. Apparently, that got me on an Obama list and I get regular "community organizer" emails.
A rather surprising finding from the newly released CNN poll. Question three on the national survey of 1,136 adults (which includes an oversample of African-Americans) asks, "Do you consider the first six months of the Obama administration to be a success or a failure?"
Thirty-seven percent (37%) said they believe the Obama administration is a "failure," while 51% consider it a "success" and 11% say it's still "too soon to tell."
An identical question was asked of the Bush administration in an August 2001 CNN/Gallup/USA Today survey. At the time, 56% said the Bush administration was a "success" while only 32% considered it a "failure." (Link)
Be prepared folks. The mask is falling so expect an abundance of shiny objects to take your eye off of the ball.

btw, "murky electoral pond." Very good use of words to describe.

My father, a mechanic, used to work on this Quebecer Hippy's VW van. Only hippy that was still a literal hippy (tie dye shirts, long hair...VW van) to this day that I've ever met. He was a really nice guy, but he was dirty and did smell bad.
I think that everywhere people on opposing sides discuss/debate/argue politics, double standards are the name of the game - pointing out the other party's double standards while at the same time explaining away your own.
It's helpful to ask oneself if principled thought is in force or not. Hypocrisy is an unattractive quality and NO political party is worth talking out of both sides of the mouth and losing self respect.

they never had much political influence and didn't really want any...it's all a myth...long haired, tie dyed activists got all the attention
Thanks for that. What she said was dead nuts accurate, but I'm still not fond of her.
"They're carrying swastikas and symbols like that to a town meeting on health care," she said.
She was being disingenuous. Her implication was that the protestors supported Nazis , when they were saying that BHO is taking us that way.
So if she was technicaly correct in essence she is a liar.
This Birth Certificate "issue" is definitely playing out as a major distraction, just as predicted on this blog, giving Obama cover to advance his political agenda and furthering the portrayal of Republicans as swivel eyed foaming at the mouth racist nuts.
Goodbye Bush Derangement syndrome, Hello Obama Derangement syndrome.
Saddam Hussein patterned his dictatorship on the Nazis and it was still like pulling teeth to get the left past their political mind block and end it.
I'd say it was patterened on Stalin, but no matter. Notwithstanding the codepinker types who admittedly would protest going to war against real Nazi's, there were many valid reasons for not wanting to invade Iraq -chief among them being the unknown consequences.
Considering how prevalent the "Everyone I disagree with is a Nazi" nonsense is, I'm sure you could find a lot of pictures of Swastikas etc. The real issue is that Pelosi put her comment into context in a way that makes it appear that the opposition are literally Neo-Nazis and that they are marching into townhalls.
It's helpful to ask oneself if principled thought is in force or not. Hypocrisy is an unattractive quality and NO political party is worth talking out of both sides of the mouth and losing self respect.
Aside from paid political professionals, I think most of the time, with most people, it is done unknowingly. It's something about the nature of politics.
Oh, good grief. THAT'S what Rush was calling a Nazi symbol?
The ignorance. It burns.
Ya know it is not ignorance so much on the part of Rush, but rather callous chutzpah. He knows that his faithful are that stupid and he thinks "well, why not take advantage? Why not keep them riled... it's good for my ratings."
No, but it doesn't surprise me. We've been looking for causative factors for psychpathic/sociopathic behavior literally for decades. Back in my day (the bell-bottom era), the "conventional wisdom" was that it was almost 100% environmental, i.e. an abused child grows up to be an abuser, an extremely abused child grows up to be Albert DiSalvo (the "Boston Strangler"). trouble is, very few extreme psychopaths had abusive childhoods. AA surprisingly large number of law-enforcement types did, though; like me. (It tends to make you empathize with the victims of crimes, which is a necessary counterbalance to those who hold that only the criminal is a genuine victim.)
Mor recently, the search has been shifting to purely physiological causes, as with the brain-structure hyopthesis. This came in the "back door", so to speak, from research done in the unrelated area of the study of Gender Identity Disorder (GID) going back to the 1980s. For instance, it has been found that many transgendered individuals have brain structures more like those of the gender they self-identify as, as oppoed to their "physical" gender, the most notable difference being in the area of the brain stem and R-complex. This seems to be a phenomenon that is fixed before birth, and there is really no way to change it; the brain is what it is, regardless of the rest of the body. Or IOW, gender-reassignment therapy and surgery are, on the whole, more efficient and much less risky as a treatment for GID than fiddling with the patient's brain, in any way, shape, or form.
The extension of the hypothesis to aberrant behavior would seem logical enough. And if the result is the likes of the BTK Killer being found "guilty but mentally ill" and confined to a maximum-security institution for life without parole', I'm all for it.
To me, getting dangerous offenders like that off the street is the bottom line; as long as they don't have access to victims, whether they're pushing up daisies, or staring at four concrete walls and getting three square meals a day, is a matter of total indifference to yours truly.
/Besides, my preferred method of "capital punishment" is at the time of the intended capital offense, and at the hands of the intended victim, anyway.
Thanks for that. What she said was dead nuts accurate, but I'm still not fond of her.
"They're carrying swastikas and symbols like that to a town meeting on health care," she said.
Except for the teensy little inconvenient fact that the swastika poster depicted had the red circle-with-diagonal-slash around it that is universally understoon to mean "NO (whatever is depicted)"...
What the sign was saying was "No Nazis" or "No Fascism", it was absolutely not a sign of support for either.
I have come to the conclusion that both political parties suck ass.
What took you so long?
The only sad part is, the other largest parties in America:
We have the Libertarians (the paleo playground)
We have The Greens (the paleo moonbat playground)
We have the actual socialist and the actual communist parties.
And last but not least we have my personal fave, The Yogic flyer guys.
This party 'Die Linke' is fishing in the same murky electoral pond as the far-right NPD and DVU with the disappointed and enraged populace who easily fall for demagoguery and big ideology.
Sounds familiar. What is deemed the "far-right" in your country?

The far-right party NPD (Nationale Partei Deutschland) and the DVU (Deutsche Volks Union) are both only one goose-step away from being outlawed. They go to great lengths to ensure that they don't deny the holocaust but they are no doubt about that, heirs to the nazis.
Two years ago the head of 'Die Linke' Oskar Lafontaine made several remarks about the foreign policy stance of his newly formed party. The head of the NPD said about those statements that the positions of the Linke were congruent with those of the NPD on foreign affairs.
That about sums up for me how dangerous both political extremes in Germany are.
Yet the German MF-state-Media is, as is customary shunning the NPD but is on the other hand giving ample air-time to the Linke.

She was being disingenuous. Her implication was that the protestors supported Nazis , when they were saying that BHO is taking us that way.
So if she was technicaly correct in essence she is a liar.
Nothing in statement infers that, just that they were carrying those symbols and they were. BTW, we only know of those two so far, but two is a "they". Had she have said "A bunch of Nazi's were protesting", I'd give you the point. Personally, even if it was a isolated incident, the anger should be directed at those carrying the signs, not the messenger. That sort of stuff from either side, just hurts your cause.
Personally, I like hippies. I don't want them in the halls of political power mind you.
.
There are a lot of hippies in my area. I get along with them fine (we don't talk politics). We mostly make fun of the neo-hippies with trust funds who beg on the street corners during the warm months.
This Birth Certificate "issue" is definitely playing out as a major distraction, just as predicted on this blog, giving Obama cover to advance his political agenda...
Right on! I wonder who profits the most from the constant hammering away at this issue? Any thoughts?
Aside from paid political professionals, I think most of the time, with most people, it is done unknowingly. It's something about the nature of politics.
The thing is that their brains get all twisted up trying to justify doing the wrong thing.
So the protesters point is that the administration is a fascist, Nazi sort of deal, and we must speak out ? Are you cool with that ?

I'm cool with pointing out many of Obama's economic decisions can be more properly described as economic fascism. As for his administration's propensity towards targeting and attacking private citizens, you can come up with your own name.
Avanti, that wasn't even his point. The point is if I say someone is carrying a Swastika it doesn't mean the same thing as a crossed out Swastika.
It isn't very different from me saying that there was a rally in the ME where hundreds of people were carrying American flags, but omitting the fact that they were on fire. My comment, while technically true, was deceptive.
The comments you are rebutting have not endorsed comparing Democrats to Nazis, but pointing out that Pelosi was implying that Nazis were present, and that is exactly how most people would understand a comment about people carrying swastikas.
It's trooferism from the Left and Nirtherism from the Right. Any wonder why I militantly resist being tagged a member of either? I am an Independent Conservative.
Calling me a Republican or Democrat is fightin' words.

Thank you! That was the point... that she was being deliberately misleading with that statement, which she had to know would imply that "people carrying swastikas" (translation: Nazis) were siding with the protesters, sneakily tarring all of them with the same ingenuous brush.
Right on! I wonder who profits the most from the constant hammering away at this issue? Any thoughts?
The country. We will slowly become a nation of people that doesn't accept everything posted on the internet or said from a podium, or through a tv/radio as truth.
It will take a while, but we get better every time one of these things spikes up and is smashed.
The data from the Southern Poverty Law Center (by the way, this includes white supremacists as well as non-white racist groups):
Incident reports (red dots) speckled across the south and east, mostly:

List of hate groups per state (I'd probably apply some math to get the data with relation to population):

Interesting. Five of the 22 groups in Louisiana (22%) are NOT white nationalist/nazi groups, leaving 78% that are:

But in California, six of 84 (or 7%) appear to be something other than white nationalist groups- leaving close to 93% to be white nationalist/nazi/racist groups (it's close to, but not exactly 93% because there were a few other groups sprinkled in there I didn't know how to categorize, and I got tired of counting ones labelled white nationalist/nazi/racist).
If this Nirth nonsense didn't have such serious repercussions it would a wonderful belly laugh. Congress certified the election, done deal. Nothing else matters now.
I'm a southern gal, grew up in the south (Louisiana).
The "N" word was not allowed to be spoken in our house. We were taught to treat everyone courteously. I never heard the "n" spoken by any of the adults (or kids) in my neighborhood or who visited our home. It was not done by people of good taste for whom good manners was a priority. Racism existed; but those people who were racist haters were shunned by polite society.
It distresses me to see the "racism" handle thrown so easily at "the south", when I know from my experience that it is not worse here than anywhere else.

I understand your position. I hope you don' t think I was throwing around the racism handle or in particular painting everyone in the south as part of the problem.
The numbers, however ugly they are, do point to a tendency in that area.
I'm looking for the raw numbers so I can do the math I described earlier (per capita statistics as well as the specific of white supremacy)

I would suggest to you that in addition to per capita statistics, you also check out racial statistics. For instance, in Louisiana, I know that 31.9% of the population is black, and the SPLC information indicated there were 5 black supremacist groups.
So Calif and La have essentially the same number of black supremacy groups, but Louisiana's black population is a much larger part of the whole. Suggesting - Louisiana's black population is happier than California's? I don't know. I just think you need to have that racial demographic to make any further sense of it all.
That was an awesome post. May I ask what sort of law enforcement you do?
I was a crime lab and crime scene forensics technician, what's called a "CSI" today. The reality is much less exciting than TV; our first rule was, "If we see a perp anywhere but in the lockup or in court, somebody has screwed up, big time." What we did then (a quarter-century and more ago) was less sophisticated, scientifically; we didn't have DNA evidence to work with (blood-typing was the SOTA then), and we used paraffin tests for "gunshot residue" (GSR), which is much less reliable than the modern chemical-reagent "swab" test.
My primary skill set is ballistics; firearms evidence, specifically rifling and toolmarks plus type identification. (The rifling marks on a bullet can tell you both what particular brand of gun fired it but also which specific one it was discharged from; so can extractor and ejector marks on cartridge cases.) I am also qualified in forensic pathology, accident investigation, abnormal and applied psychology, and shot 196 out of a possible 200 the last time I did the Practical Pistol Course, using a Colt Police Positive Special revolver (.38 Special caliber). (I normally carried a Colt 1911A1 .45 ACP on duty; yes, we were armed, even though the idea was we weren't supposed to get involved in the rough stuff.)
My career was cut short by arthritis, resulting in failing the physical. When that happens, you're out, period. It's a good rule, even if less than satisfactory from my personal POV.
Retirement came sort of early for me, but I can't complain.

Those links also have total population numbers.
Your point is understood, but I'm not sure what can be derived from something other than splitting off the racial target of the groups.
The population split makes less sense to me because, for instance in California, racists might concentrate on browner skin people but that doesn't necessarily they don't hate black people any less -- they just get to point at more Mexican-Americans per day.
Anyway, gotta find the raw data first, then it is easy to mix all this stuff together (on a spreadsheet) and argue about what is meaningful or not later.

Will be interesting to see! Will you scan and print a link? Hope you find me on a thread and let me know when you get it done.
This seems like the Obama era version of the Clinton Chronicles only I think this is much worse and much more insidious because the Clinton Chronicles was nowhere near as acceptable to the mainstream.
Most of the Repubs don't believe it and think it's nonsense...but it also helps them to keep mentioning it. It invokes the "Obama is foreign" meme that Hillary tried to exploit in the primaries. People who are on the fence but looking for a reason to distrust Obama will say they don't believe it, but will also keep it in the back of their minds. The Bush AWOL Guard story never hurt the Democrats.
