Hahahahaha!
It's shocking to see that there are still people who believe the complete whacko racial nonsense spewed in the late-19th-century up through the Nazi era. Some myths just refuse to die.
Incredible that they are still clinging to the old terminology ("mongolids"). Comical that they can't even spell it ("mongloroids").

You would also think that they would admire a "go-getter" like Ghengis Khan... Though to be fair too Ghengis, he was not particular racist or religiously intolerant. He just had this notion that if you had something shiny and he wanted it, there was nothing wrong with him and 50,000 of his closest buddies coming to take it.

Speaking of which: one of the people who still clung to the old Nazi-era "improving the race" eugenics theories was Harrison Brown -- John Holdren's mentor and the primary source of his worldview.
If a right-winger had the same ideologicial connections, they'd be run out of town on a rail. But since he's a left-winger -- he's in the White House, directing policy.

The Washington Times did make the argument that Transformers 2 had "fascist overtones." The piece also complained that the Transformers were working with the Brits and the US, and not with a non-Western nation such as Venezuela.
To be fair, they also had a write-up on Michael Jackson and how he was a fascist as well.

The part I am looking at is discussing Nazism as it took hold in Germany and in the US in the 1930s. Henry Ford (whom Hitler admired to the extent of having Ford's picture on his wall, and whose assembly-line systems Hitler emulated in the Final Solution) was a very large part of laying the groundwork for Nazism in Germany, and providing fertile soil for its antisemitic ideology here.

I would add that American Jews of my parents' generation still were reluctant to buy Fords as late as the 1960s because of Henry Ford, even though the old bastard was by that time long dead. That's pretty much faded now, but 40 years ago there was still strong feeling about this.

That's true the lawyer defended their right to march and he was Jewish.
It is an astonishing stand on many levels. The ACLU (in those days, and it is a much different organization today than it was then) saw the first amendment rights of even Nazi scum outweighing the pain and suffering such a march would have caused the residents of Skokie - many of whom were camp survivors.
He saw it as the ultimate test of believing in the First Amendment. I obviously believe in the principle, but not the application.
Historically what happened was that the Nazi bastards got the right to march. However, they were informed by numerous back channels that if they did march, the residents of Skokie would express their free speech rights with baseball bats.

OK-- Darwin was wrong.
Having grown up around Klan-types, I have an understanding (limited) of these people. As I have been saying elsewhere, fear is the fuel that drives them, that coupled with a feeling of a loss of control. When we take counsel of our fears, we become capable of the most horrific acts.
As for the bases of their beliefs, I suspect that this is equal parts willful ignorance (ie, looking no further than the materials that support your world view) and actual malice. The sad part is that this is the human condition.

All I can think of is putting 20 Israeli elite paratroopers opposite their "Arayan" best and see who comes out on top.
Then we'll end this ludicrous Zeig Heil Bullcrap
You make a very interesting point about how perceptions of Jews have changed with the creation of Israel.
In various nations around the world, Jewish soldiers and sailors had served with distinction for some time. There were many German Jewish veterans of WW1, who had an Iron Cross and who were none the less killed by the Nazis.
Even so, the image of the Jew then was of a coward and a weakling. The right wing types, with their fascist notions of strength used this stereotype relentlessly against Jews in those days.
The Israel was formed, and yet another generation of Jews fought bravely and with distinction, but since it was an actually Jewish army, the world could not pretend that Jewish capacity on the battlefield didn't exist.
In some corners, this has helped the image of Jews greatly.
In others, well, now the image is that Jews are blood thirsty badasses who crush innocents with their military might, and the Left uses that stereotype relentlessly against Jews these days.
Being Jewish always means that both the far right and the far left hate you.

By the way...I'm into the war years on the documentary now, and I note that it has completely glossed over the fear of homegrown American fascism which pervaded the 1936 Presidential election, which prompted Sinclair Lewis to write his novel of a Nazi/fascist takeover of America, "It Can't Happen Here."
Huey Long, assassinated shortly after that election, was considered a homegrown American fascist, and was somewhat the model for Berzelius ("Buzz") Windrip (i.e., "fart"), the fascist Senator who wins the Presidency in Lewis' novel.
More to the point, Long's associate Gerald LK Smith, of whom I have yet to hear mention in this documentary, was considered a bridge between Long and postwar American fascism.
Buzz, ever read Under Cover by John Roy Carlson (Avedis Boghos Derounian)?

As some well-known “anti-jihad” writers and bloggers continue to defend the Belgian Vlaams Belang party against a mountain of well-documented charges that they are a fascist group, it’s very revealing to read the definition of “fascism” that concludes Robert Paxton’s comprehensive scholarly work, The Anatomy of Fascism.

The History Channel says, "the residents referred to Skokie as a village, and the camraderie stemmed from the high concentration of Holocaust survivors..."
No.
Skokie is referred to as "a village" because that is how it is incorporated as a political entity, just like Oak Park, River Forest, and most of the other Chicago suburbs. And, while Skokie surely has, or had, a high concentration of Holocaust survivors, this (and its "camraderie") was due to its having, quite simply, a high percentage of Jewish population.

Well I'm about to get sick
From watchin' my TV
Been checkin' out the news
Until my eyeballs fail to see
I mean to say that every day
Is just another rotten mess
And when it's gonna change, my friend
Is anybody's guess
So I'm watchin' and I'm waitin'
Hopin' for the best
Even think I'll go to prayin'
Every time I hear 'em sayin'
That there's no way to delay
That trouble comin' every day
No way to delay
That trouble comin' every day
Wednesday I watched the riots
Seen the cops out on the street
Watched 'em throwin' rocks and stuff
And chokin' in the heat
Listened to reports
About the whisky passin' 'round
Seen the smoke and fire
And the markets burnin' down
Watched while everybody
On his street would take a turn
To stomp and smash and bash and crash
And slash and bust and burn
And I'm watchin' and I'm waitin'
Hopin' for the best
Even think I'll go to prayin'
Every time I hear 'em sayin'
That there's no way to delay
That trouble comin' every day
No way to delay
That trouble comin' every day
Well, you can cool it,
You can heat it
'Cause, baby, I don't need it
Take your TV tube and eat it
'N all that phony stuff on sports
'N all the unconfirmed reports
You know I watched that rotten box
Until my head begin to hurt
From checkin' out the way
The newsman say they get the dirt
Before the guys on channel so-and-so
And further they assert
That any show they'll interrupt
To bring you news if it comes up
They say that if the place blows up
They will be the first to tell,
Because the boys they got downtown
Are workin' hard and doin' swell,
And if anybody gets the news
Before it hits the street,
They'll say that no one blabs it faster
Their coverage can't be beat
And if another woman driver
Gets machine-gunned from her seat
They'll send some joker with a Brownie
And you'll see it all complete
So I'm watchin' and I'm waitin'
Hopin' for the best
Even think I'll go to prayin'
Every time I hear 'em sayin'
That there's no way to delay
That trouble comin' every day
No way to delay
That trouble comin' every day
Hey, you know something people?
I'm not black
But there's a whole lotsa times
I wish I could say I'm not white!
Well, I seen the fires burnin'
And the local people turnin'
On the merchants and the shops
Who used to sell their brooms and mops
And every other household item
Watched the mob just turn and bite 'em
And they say it served 'em right
Because a few of them are white,
And it's the same across the nation
Black and white discrimination
Yellin' "You can't understand me!"
'N all that other jazz they hand me
In the papers and TV
And all that mass stupidity
That seems to grow more every day
Each time you hear some nitwit say
He wants to go and do you in
Because the color of your skin
Just simdon't appeal to him
(No matter if it's black or white)
Because he's out for blood tonight
You know we got to sit around at home
And watch this thing begin
But I bet there won't be many live
To see it really end
'Cause the fire in the street
Ain't like the fire in the heart
And in the eyes of all these people
Don't you know that this could start
On any street in any town
In any state if any clown
Decides that now's the time to fight
For some ideal he thinks is right
And if a million more agree
There ain't no Great Society
As it applies to you and me
Our country isn't free
And the law refuses to see
If all that you can ever be
Is just a lousy janitor
Unless your uncle owns a store
You know that five in every four
Just won't amount to nothin' more
Gonna watch the rats go across the floor
And make up songs about being poor
Blow your harmonica, son!

Yes, but it's tracing the main roots of the current movement, from Franz "The Great One" Kuhn, leader of the German Bund and American Fuehrer all the way to and past the Brinks robbery to near present times. It leaves off before David Duke, Stormfront, Lew Rockwell, Paul Weyrich, and the ties to the neoconfederacy.

British Fascists and 'Christian' Racism
This pseudo-historical belief system allows white nationalists to claim that the Bible is a book written by Europeans, about Europeans, and for Europeans, for according to this theory, Europeans are the Biblical Israelites. British Israelism, then, is a ‘Christian’ religion that promotes Eurocentricism and opposes ‘race mixing’ as an affront to ‘God’s plan’.
Since these fascists think they're good Christians, I felt this old thread fit.

Indeed. The History Channel has, in the past, created films of this nature that can only be described as a mini-series. Their incredible film on the American Revolution, for example, was 10 hours. They could certainly cover more area, but given the time frame, they had to make choices. It shouldn't take away from the accuracy of the remaining information.

Good evening:
I just got back from a mini vacation and wanted to make a few comments on the unemployment rate.
Unemployment scales back in July; trucking loses 6,800 jobs
I'm sure that this was discussed Friday, But I had a few thoughts for those interested:
1. While the slowing rate of job destruction is a good thing, we are still losing a quarter of a million jobs jobs a month. The needs to turn around and become 150,000 to 200,000 jobs to the positive every month to stabilize the economy.
When the economy is healthy, employers need to add a net total of around 125,000 jobs a month just to keep the unemployment rate stable. And to push the jobless rate down to a more normal 5 percent range, it would take stronger job growth — of at least 200,000 jobs a month. Economists say it might take until 2013 to drive down the unemployment rate to 5 percent.
2. The unemployment rate dropped to 9.4% and the market jumped on that news. Understand though that the rate dropped cause a whole bunch of people left the labor pool. Hundreds of thousands of unemployed people gave up hope and stopped looking. Therefore, they don not count in the statistics. That is not a good thing. You will then see unemployment jump sometime down the road when the economy actually does improve and they start looking again.
The dip in the unemployment rate was the first since April 2008. One of the reasons the rate declined, though, was that hundreds of thousands of people left the labor force. The labor force includes only those who are either employed or are looking for work.
If laid-off workers who have given up looking for new jobs or have settled for part-time work are included the unemployment rate would have been 16.3 percent in July. That's down from 16.5 percent in June, which was the highest on records dating to 1994. All told, 14.5 million were out of work in July.
I still think we will see unemployment of 10% or better before this si all said an done.

Right. Frank Collin is convicted pedophile.

I still think we will see unemployment of 10% or better before this si all said an done.
Thanks as always for your insights.

I'm saying that while it does contain some factual information, it actually is piss-poor as far as setting Nazi sympathies in America into any intelligent context is concerned--particularly as it pretends to do so, going back to the Depression era to provide "context" which entirely ignores the homegrown American fascist movement which was the context in which the Bund flourished.
As such, it provides "facts" in an extremely simpleminded noncontext, and, with sixteen minutes of this thing to go, I'd have to say that this piece does not live up to its billing as "secret history."
Yep, Father Coughlin, Charles Lindbergh, and a very large part of the isolationist/peace movement of the time.

Understand though that the rate dropped cause a whole bunch of people left the labor pool. Hundreds of thousands of unemployed people gave up hope and stopped looking. Therefore, they don not count in the statistics.
This is something that always bothered me. Perhaps you can help me understand.
How do these people leave the labor pool? When it is said that they have given up looking for work, how are they subsisting?

re: #191 buzzsawmonkey
As I have observed above, the "accuracy" of the information it presents is pretty soft in spots, to put it kindly--and the tone of the documentary, when it talks sobbingly about the "hysteria" involved in confining a mere 10,000 German immigrants and German-Americans (compare that with the hundreds of thousands of Japanese and Nisei interned), is, quite frankly, pretty sickening.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++
10,000 is quite a lot. Actually, how does one identify a NAZI? Not by looks. How many here actually know any REAL NAZIs and can point out the difference between them and the rest of the crowd?
That's why there were 20 times more incarcerated Japanese and Nisei than Germans; easy to spot.

U.S. Economy May Be on Brink of Recovery, Tyson, Krugman Say
Aug. 10 (Bloomberg) -- The U.S. economy may be on the cusp of a recovery and the impact of the nation’s stimulus plan should increase this quarter, said Laura Tyson, an adviser to President Barack Obama.
“We may have hit stability, we may be in the beginning of an upturn” based on the latest economic data, Tyson, a member of the White House’s Economic Recovery Advisory Board, said yesterday during an interview in Kuala Lumpur. Nobel Prize- winning economist Paul Krugman said the deepest slump since the Great Depression may be ending.
“It’s quite possible, though not certain, that retrospectively, we’ll say that the recession ended in July or August, maybe September,” Krugman said in a separate interview in the Malaysian capital. “My guess is that we’ve bottomed out now, that August was probably the trough month.”
Krugman, 56, cited last week’s government report showing that the pace of U.S. job losses slowed more than forecast in July and the unemployment rate dropped for the first time in 15 months. He also pointed to reports by the Institute of Supply Management that manufacturing, while still contracting, is on the mend.
Tyson, 62, cautioned that declining housing values and an overhang of unsold homes pose threats to a recovery, and it’s too early to say the jobs report is the beginning of a trend.
“We’ve had one number that’s been slightly stronger than expected,” she said. “It’s pretty hard to read a single month as creating a trend. Most of the forecasts are still that the unemployment rate rises through till the end of the year.”
Also, bear in kind:
1. Most recession last about 12 months. This one is now 20 months long. Eventually the down turn stops. Do not confuse stopping the down turn with growth. You want to see GDP growing over 2% a year and employment growing by about 150,000 jobs a month on average, 200,000 would be better.
2 Krugman had been forecasting a recession every year since 2000. Consider the source when you hear from him.

Is Krugman pushing for a 2nd stimulus package? He was pretty outspoken that the 1st one was way too small and unambitious, IIRC.

Living on savings, pensions, family, whatever they can find. You have to actively be looking for work to be counted as unemployed. When folks give up hope and stop looking, they are no longer counted and the unemployment rate, all other things held constant, drops.
The point is, just cause the unemployment rate dropped is not all that important. You have to know why it dropped. It did not drop cause a whole bunch of new jobs were created, it dropped cause a whole lot of unemployed people gave up hope and stopped looking.

Strictly anecdotal, but my very large company/employer which had intitially taken an aggressive continued growth position just did a 180 and is now in the process of closing a lot of marginal stores, some of which were opened only a year ago. This says to me that we are in for long term decline where treading water will suddenly look like up.
Jobs being lost now at the edges. I expect a bloodbath Jan 1 as the company sets sail on our new voyage to mediocrity.

From the Bureau of Labor Statistics FAQ, so I'm sure this is a simplified answer:
Unemployed persons. All persons who had no employment during the reference week, were available for work (except for temporary illness), and had made specific efforts to find employment some time during the 4 week-period ending with the reference week. Persons who were waiting to be recalled to a job from which they had been laid off need not have been looking for work to be classified as unemployed.

The documentary describes the intense prior surveillance that actual Nazis were under. Ten thousand German/German-American internees is minuscule in light of the huge German/German-American population of the United States during WWII; it is certainly minuscule compared to the virtually total internment of the much smaller, though more visible, Japanese/Japanese-American population.
Which is not to argue in any way in favor of internment. What I object to is the weepy tone of the documentary on behalf of the internees, bemoaning the "hysteria" which prompted it. "Hysteria?" No.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
My aunt was one of those under "surveillance" during WWII. She wasn't a spy but my great-uncle had to vouch for her a few times. If you got into trouble with the law during WWII and were originally German you were put on a list.

As well as the notion that Nazism was exported from Germany to This Island America. In many ways the Neo-Nazis only appropriated the symbols of continental European fascists, the ideology was already here. That is even more true today now that the KKK is basically decapitated as a relevant/popular movement in the white supremacist community.
That entirely homegrown racist movement is almost entirely integrated into a much more homogeneous white supremacist movement that is still seen and presented as being distinctly Nazi in origin, which is a half truth at best. Ignoring the actual homegrown roots is what lets people like Pat Buchanan and Lew Rockwell walk practically unscathed; because they don't fit the model of what people think of when they think of white power groups. Those men fit the model of a Charles Lindbergh pretty well though.

I will tell you that my grandparents, who had leftwing sympathies, were afraid to throw out a number of magazines (which I later found in their effects after my grandfather died) during WWII for fear that the FBI would find them while going through their garbage, and my father would thereby lose his security clearance and, thus, his job with the Project.
Everybody was under surveillance during the height of WWII, and if there were a few errors on the side of caution regarding the possibility of Nazi sympathies, I am not shedding a hell of a lot of tears.
The program makes it appear that Martin Dies was an extreme anti-Nazi. Martin Dies! Can you imagine that!

Whatever his faults, J. Edgar Hoover's FBI did a fantastic job of preventing and stamping out subversion and sabotage during the war. The Nazis had a terrible time recruiting spies in this country, as did the other Axis powers.
An example:
Right after the Battle of Midway, isolationist traitors at the Chicago Tribune published what was arguably the biggest secret of the war, the breaking of the Japanese code that had set up the battle. President Roosevelt decided to ignore it, at least publicly, on the chance that enemy spies had missed it. On the basis of what he knew about Hoover's efforts, he reasoned that the enemy might miss the initial story but would certainly notice the blaze of publicity that would result from prosecuting the publishers. Sure enough, no Axis intelligence agency is known to have picked up an item that was published in one of the largest papers in the country.

Here in NYC, the German-American Bund used to meet regularly at the Jager House restaurant in the Yorkville section of Manhattan (East 80s): [Link: en.wikipedia.org...]
"One of its early initiatives was to counter, with propaganda, a Jewish boycott of businesses in the heavily German neighborhood of Yorkville, Manhattan. Simultaneously, an internal battle was fought for control of the Friends [of New Germany] in 1934; Sponknobel was ultimately ousted from leadership. At the same time, the Dickstein investigation concluded that the Friends supported a branch of German dictator Adolf Hitler's Nazi Party in America.
On March 19, 1936, Hitler placed an American citizen, Fritz Julius Kuhn, as the head of the party,[citation needed] hoping to gain some degree of American favor. The group's name was then changed to the German American Bund. At this time, the Bund established two training camps, Camp Nordland in Sussex County, New Jersey and Camp Siegfried in Yaphank, New York.
Arguably, the zenith of the Bund's history occurred on President's Day, February 19, 1939 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Some 20,000 people attended and heard Kuhn criticize President Franklin D. Roosevelt by repeatedly referring to him as “Frank D. Rosenfeld”, calling his New Deal the "Jew Deal", and stating his belief of Bolshevik-Jewish American leadership. Most shocking to American sensibilities was the outbreak of violence between protesters and Bund storm troopers.
The Bund was one of several German-American heritage groups; however, it was one of the few to express National Socialist ideals."

I agree with Sharmuta, this video will shock some who might have been born in the 80's to do some more looking. I think both of you have a lot of valuable knowledge about the connections and depths of the movement. I was thinking it might be a good idea to compile some of that. It's not that hard to put together a "powerpoint" youtube narrated vid, & you also have a great way with words. I would be interested if you did something on this together. Think on it.

Some of the Lizards were talking about the upside of global warming today and 86 degrees in the arctic that allowed the Eskimo's to go swimming could be one.
"In late July the mercury soared to almost 86 degrees Fahrenheit (30 degrees Celsius) in this settlement of 900 Inuvialuit, the name for western Arctic Eskimos.
"The water was really warm," Gruben said. "The kids were swimming in the ocean."

For those who may want to read some books on this period which are a hell of a lot better than this documentary, allow me to recommend the following:
Henry Ford and the Jews by Albert Lee
Voices of Protest: Huey Long, Father Coughlin and the Great depression by Alan Brinkley
Demagogues in the Depression by David Bennett
The Nazi Movement in the United States 1924-1941 by Sander A. Diamond
Gerald L. K. Smith Minister of Hate by Glen Jeansonne
A few others ( had to go into the back-room to get them)
Father Coughlin The Tumultuous Life of the Priest of the Little Flower by Sheldon Marcus
To Save a Nation by Geoffry S. Smith
Charles A. Lindbergh and the Battle Against American Intervention in World War II by Wayne S. Cole
( Don't by the newer Berg book. It's written by an apologist for Lindbergh's antisemitism)
Prophets of Deceit by Leo Lowenthal and Norbert Guterman
also,
Under Cover by John Roy Carlson who infiltrated a number of these hate groups.

355 | EaterOfFood Sun, Aug 9, 2009 6:08:57pm |
The one tragedy never touched on in many of these documentaries is how Nazism became a boon to the intellectually lazy. "Nazi" is the stock insult for any disagreeable political doctrine, regardless of actual similarities to Hitler's beliefs.
And if you don't agree with that, you're a fascist.

With respect to standing up to anti-semitism, you could always join the organization Stand With Us, a pro-Israel organization. Become a member of a local chapter or form one yourself and stand up to anti-semitism where it rears its ugly head. One need not be crazy and wild-eyed to become an activist.

David Simon -
Difference IS - the sitting President was George W. Bush, an "R" if I recall. My real opinion of what should have been the treatment of "detainees" is almost unprintable and might get me banned. To make a long story short - no GERMAN Commander was ever tried for "War Crimes" for actions taken against members of the Resistance in Western Europe. Those actions were considered to be within the "Laws of War" as understood at the time.
Abraham Lincoln, the Great Emancipator, suspended the "Great Writ" of Habeus Corpus during the American (1860's) Civil War. Allowed the Hanging of about 50 Native Americans in Minnesota, on ONE DAY, as well to prove a POINT. Point being - No Rebellion against the US Federal Government will be tolerated. Lincoln, perhaps the Great Usurper of Civil Liberties, was only corrected - POST MORTEM - in the case of ex Parte McCardle - which same decision was more procedural than anything else.
Had that decision been taken DURING the War, I am sure Pres. Lincoln would have had the Justices - so ruling - arrested and removed.
Point of this whole diatribe is that GWB, as FDR, as Abraham Lincoln DID NOT believe that the US Constitution constituted a SUICIDE PACT.
That is All.

I've seen this many times. Its still relevant even though many of the people shown in that documentary are now dead like Richard Butler and William Luther Pierce but unfortunately their cancerous ideology continues to rot the brains and hearts of many and too frequently hitches its rickety wagon to right wingers who shut their eyes and plug their ears to their fellow travelers.

Disturbing and deeply sickening. The ultimate evil.
It's interesting to see the initial faults by the the American host society such as welcoming, in the name of freedom of speech, sympathizers and german nazis - allowing their growth and strengthening in the U.S., or guarding the Bund's manhattan's convention right to speak freely, which lead the national newspaper magazines to parrot and publish their poison to be read all over by millions upon millions.
Just like today, when western newspapers allow op-eds of Hamas / PLO terrorists to take stage.
Why has LGF almost entirely left the focus off of Islamism / Jihad since last November? They are currently the operative threat to the world by a great margin (and I repeat NOT the only big threat of course!).
LGF was an incredibly staunch anti-left blog with daily posts of Memri TV material, with tons of work from Zombie, further exposing and analyzing Islamonazism, their western useful idiot consorts (that are in abundance) and anything that showed the true evasive face of CAIR, and their parallel terrorists sympathetic Islamic organizations.
This video is extremely alarming and is always "great" to see how truly bad things really were and are (even in the U.S.), but man, Charles -- you are an incredibly inspiring level headed guy -- why isn't LGF on the same very-determined course of exposing Islamism / liberal-PC agenda anymore? Is it gone? Are you that certain that showing that the republican party's split to the far right is enough to dump everything you've been hard at work at, and immediately claw onto anything that passes an inch over 'median' right?
Thanks for the video, nonetheless.
