Whoever is playing the Dallas Cowboys, or the New England Patriots. NE, Pittsburgh, and San Diego are likely the favorites to win the AFC with Indy close behind, but questionable because of the new coach.

Oh, that looks delicious. I've had it before. Have fun!

I'm thinking of pickling some green tomatoes for my father but, that takes FOUR DAYS according to my grandmother's recipe. She useta' put up those and whole, ripe tomatoes. And, her own b-and-b pickles, dill pickles, green beans, corn, jams, jellies and preserves--a whole room was filled with her stuff. They had fresh stuff all year long.

Man, I wish I had her energy.

She also made biscuits from scratch--using lard-every morning before sunrise. My grandfather would eat those with ham and red-eyed gravy for breakfast. He dropped dead in his tracks when he was about 60--massive coronary from utterly and completely blocked arteries.

He knew he would die from it but, he said he'd rather die as the result of something he loved instead of being hit by a bus after popping a bunch of BP meds. What a philosophy!

Myron and Mary were married for sixty years, and lived to 85, when they were killed together in a tragic accident.

They had been good people, and so the angels were giving them a tour of heaven. They saw all the wonderful things to see and do, and then they arrived at their mansion. The buffet was all laid out with wonderful things to eat.

"It will always be here," the angels said, "as much as you can eat and you never get fat."

Myron burst into sobs. His wife turned to him, "What is wrong?"

I had them deep fried.

A little flour and bacon grease, no poison please, and you have a mighty fine meal.

I was just rechecking The Kid's notes from school Friday and came across a diagram he drew. SCIENTIFIC METHOD: Observe, Ask a Question, Make a Prediction, Make a Plan, Follow the Plan, Record the Results, Try Again, Draw Conclusion.

Not bad for a fourth grade science class in a conservative, Evangelical church that teaches in chapel that God made it all. (Gotta' love his science teacher--she has a Ph.D. in neurobiology, an M.Ed. and a B.A. in comparative religion, and she's an Evangelical Christian. Just about the same message that gets sent when any talented athlete gets a slap on the wrist for breaking the law. Money, fame, or talent will get you out of trouble if you are valuable to someone.

Paris Hilton backs into a car with her SUV leaves, no consequences.
Lindsey Lohan serves one day in jail for 2 DUI offenses.
Micheal Jackson buys his way out of prosecution for child molestation.
OJ gets away with murder.

re: #272 Dr. Shalit

OK, Posit This - Hypothetically -

You are a Landlord, under current Immigration Law. You have a tenant who is an "illegal."
The tenant pays his rent, and except on "Sabadol" is rather quiet, even on Sabadol, he keeps it to a "Low Roar."
He has one problem, doesn't understand US law - to be more precise - local regulations -
regarding sub-lets - effectively contravening traditional Common Law on such matters, as well as COMMON SENSE.
Pray Tell - as Landlord, what do you do?Well, how easy/ hard is it to replace him as a tenant? Your hypothetical refers to three violations of US laws, so if the tenant can be readily replaced that would probably be the smartest thing to do. If he is violating sub-let laws, who else is living there, what are they doing that may cause the landlord legal problems. If their low roar results in burning the plae down, will the insurance cover since the landlord knew the tenant is illegal?

Well, looky here:
Lib orgs busted recruiting protestors on Craiglist.

While the media pointed their hypocritical fingers at town hall meeting protesters for supposedly being organized by conservative backers, they've conveniently ignored an aggressive recruiting campaign by liberal organizations looking to help President Obama get his agenda through Congress.
Take for example the following advertisement placed at the online website Craiglist for New York City Monday (h/t Patrick Ruffini):

**TALENTED LEADERS needed to work for health care reform $11-16/hour**

One thing I like about Newsbusters (among many): They know that "media" is plural.

I know that the trees put down deep roots and their offspring and dead leaves contribute to create soil. As I understand it, it doesn't take all that long for them to help create non-desert --20 years? So it seems that the investment is relatively short-term and the eventual output would be lucrative --if eventually --50 years, farmland is the result.

We have some here in Colorado although they're a different variety. I know an acquaintance that can't hear them -- I think his higher frequency hearing is shot. He even refuses to believe that there are any in Colorado but there are:

I believe the problem is more complicated (although last climatology course was 40 years ago) before there is usually atmospheric circulatory change involved. If you can't get rain to fall there it will likely never be great farmland. As Mich said, China is trying lots of approaches, and they may well have the most resources and motivation to find answers. I hope they do, because that would probably reduce population pressures that may fuel expansionism in the future.

The last paragraph in that link...

In a separate case in 2006, the office of the Labor Commissioner of the State of California determined that the Fund had denied rest breaks to a worker, awarding a cash payment. The Fund subsequently changed its policies to provide overtime pay. In 2009, it agreed to settle the class-action suit.

How nice of them. Funny, I thought that just might be a law one of the groups they support, might have lobbied for at one time.

"Astroturfing" is a disgusting and frankly un-American practice but with Washington long since overrun by paid lobbyists, there is little point in trying to stop the same thing at the grassroots level.

I wish I could remember the name of the book I read since it's been a few years. It's a volume on American Political History. The author's main thesis is that if we think that today's systems that shape and manage political thought are corrupt, we are fooling ourselves. Examples from media (e.g. newspapers were pretty much overtly politically biased without apology. Community organization was a rough and tumble business. In fact, the author goes to some length to point out that the advent of so-called "unbiased journalism" is a relatively new venture with some inherent flaws.

I've actually been reading through the health care proposals and it is a real eye opener. Some highlights and my opinions on it.

1) There are a lot of title and sections that are extensions of current programs that already allow the government to intrude on our private lives. You just don't know how intrusive their CURRENT reach is. One of the clever aspects of this proposal is the gathering of already existing health care material that reside in Social Security and other Federal programs and giving them a more intrusive nature by locking them into this new proposed bill.

2) There are sections in this proposal that can amend and change existing titles and sections in existing bills (such as changes and amendments to Social Security). That's like holding a constitutional convention without ever bringing the constitution into the proceedings.

3) There is a whole section on taxing private health care benefits. And, if this section is retained, it will certainly make it more and more expensive over the years for any employer to offer private health insurance or for an American citizen to retain their own private health insurance. This proposed bill is a direct hit on all aspects of the private health care business.

4) A very large part of this proposal, a major title in the proposed bill, will set up a Federal Health Care Corp (doctors, nurses, administration personal, health care clinics etc.) that will be in direct competition with private health care industry. And, having the Federal government behind this Federal Health Care Corp, there is no way the private health care industry will be able to compete against all the government propped up parts of this programs. This Federal Health Care Corp will have massive rights to intrude into many aspects of daily life, both private citizens and private business, in order to fulfill their stated mission.

5) In general, this proposal does absolutely nothing to prevent the eventual demise of the private health care industry. The creation alone of the Federal Health Care Corps would be equivalent to private industry trying to set up a competing military force, they may be able to do it better, but it will never happen.

6) There is NOTHING in the bill that prevents the creation of a single payer government health care system. For a matter of fact, almost everything I've read so far in this proposal is designed to facilitate that final goal.

7) This proposal didn't appear out of thin air. It is well thought out and it's titles and sections are well constructed legalese, with one final goal in mind. The total Federal control of health services and your personal health concerns.

Read this thing, you'll be a step ahead of most of the politicians that claim to represent you. Truth to knowledge, use it.

"It is critically important that Congress act before the limit is reached so that citizens and investors here and around the world can remain confident that the United States will always meet its obligations," Mr. Geithner said in a letter to lawmakers.

Mr. Geithner said the that it is "clearly a moment in our history" that requires support from both Democrats and Republicans for the increase.

"Congress has never failed to raise the debt limit when necessary," Mr. Geithner said.

You know, Walter, you may be on to something here. Imagine if, instead of focusing on jeering, etc. in these townhalls, every person took it upon themselves to become very familiar with a specific section of the bill, chapter and verse. Now imagine all of the questions posed by individuals to their elected officials at the townhall reference page numbers, exact wording, etc.

There could be a couple of effects of this approach. First, it would become stunningly apparent which officials have studied the legislation and which have not. Perhaps a way of shaming them that would be more powerful than shouting and chanting? Secondly, it would provide a very specific context for questions and answers, instead of allowing for generic talking points.

Secondly, it would provide a very specific context for questions and answers, instead of allowing for generic talking points.

What do you think, Walter?

Of course this would be the way to go. I will give you an example. I've read two hundred pages of this proposal already. Why? Because I heard a talk show host say that a title and section of the proposal would allow health care workers to come into the homes of at risk pregnant mothers and tell the mothers who they are going to raise their baby.

So, I wanted to see this actual language. It appears that this is simply a codification and continuation of CURRENT government practices, now grouped into this proposal.

So, it's not new, it's things that the government already does in through other programs, but it is being address and included in this proposal.

Bottom line, the talk show host was fear mongering and not being honest. But, the over all powers this section and title gives the government is still a concern to me.

I think if anything, everyone who is concerned with this should try to read it. It's not that hard, almost every section has a funding part that you can just skip over, and it's typical double spaced, large print (LOL) legalese.

Very good idea.

That is certainly true and those questions could probably be also placed directly in context of the legislation. I just wonder what it would be like if the congresscritter was standing in front of people who knew the legislation better than him/her. It seems a strong alternative to what's going on today, which I don't envision as being sustainable in any positive way although I do understand the anger.

It doesn't out right state that you go to the Federal Health Care Corp for all your services. I should have clarified that the way this agency is set up in the proposal, it appears to me that it will eventually become the place to go for any Federally funded health care.

Some background on Obama administration mouthpiece Linda Douglass, this is an eye opener: "Douglass and Phillips also became close with Webb Hubbell, the Justice Department official who stole from his old law firm and cheated on his taxes. Douglass and Phillips dined and socialized with Hubbell and his wife, Suzy, and the couples even took a trip to the Greek islands together." [Link: www.washingtonexaminer.com...]

Because Obamacare's government health services are likely to have rules to prevent them from being sued, thus causing the lawyers to lose their gravy train.

D'ya think? Maybe a government-run health care agency would just be another deep pocket to go after. E.g. if you're a slimeball ambulance-chaser like Jonathan Edwards, you can now sue not just the doctor and the hospital, but now the doctor, the hospital, and the federal government.

Well if you see #416 by SteveC and if I add in my own two cents about staying with my oncologist and Cancer Clinic Team, then I don't see that anger abating any at all.
And while I do think it's a good tactic, I think the outcome is in fact a forgone conclussion: President Obama and Senate Majority Leader Reid have said, in no uncertain terms, that this bill WILL BE PASSED INTO LAW no matter whether or not any Republicans vote for it.
And come January or thereabouts, when I will NEED certain tests, and probably radiation treatment, if I can't get them without any significant time delay and get them from the doctors familiar with my case
then the simple facts of the matter are that my cancer will spread and I will die because of that.
And I am hardly the only person in that particular boat.

re: #417 Walter L. Newton

It's on my mental checklist for this week.

The political monstrosities this country suffers from are the result of the federal government's usurption of power from the states. The original intent of federalism was to disperse power throughout the country. Our current all or nothing system puts all the political and policy eggs in basket.

Street politics is a very dirty game. Sometimes, it can get very ugly. You might even find yourself in the awful position where getting beat-up is better then being seen to fight back because you can not allow the other side to portray you to be the instigator of the violence.

Street politics is as much about stagecraft as it is about philosophy. The street/town halls are the stage. The SEIU thugs and the citizens that are getting beat up are actors on that stage. They are showing the rest of the citizenry something about the debate, something that is emotionally persuasive.

If the video is bad enough, its a Rodney King event.

It just seemed to me to be a bit too sweeping of a generalization of "federalism". Federalism doesn't necessary preclude large efforts by a central government. E.g., the idea of a standing federal army and navy was adopted early on, as was a postal service. The initial Republican party had as one of its goals the federal government sponsoring a transcontinental railroad. And so forth...

Oh my. This gets even better!

He doesn't even know what kind of bill it is!

“Why are you voting for a health care plan that is shown not to work in Massachusetts and why are you going to institute that in a nation-wide manner?”

With a look of confusion on his face, the congressman first quietly asked an aide, “Is that the type of bill they got going on?” Then, reassured by staff that the bill Hill referenced was, in fact, the bill before Congress, Scott proceeded to respond, insomuch as the Congressman’s angry tirade may be called a response.

The federal government was given very specific powers in the Constitution. National defense is clearly one of those powers and for good reason. 50 state armies would be silly. But issues closest to the people should come at the political levels closest to the people. The Fed simply is not responsive enough or capable of coping with the diversity of situations in this country.

Health care reform intrudes into our lives intimately. If a state plan is implemented, and I don't like it, I can move to another state. If the federal government implements a health plan I don't like, then what? I must either overthrow the government or move to another country. I'm not sure I like those choices.

Union Official Allegedly Liaison Between Governor, Obama Team
Blagojevich Apparently Hoped for Job Leading Labor Group

Among the revelations contained in the complaint brought against Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich yesterday was the description of an official with the Service Employees International Union acting as an apparent intermediary between the governor and Barack Obama's camp in discussions over Obama's Senate seat.

The alleged role of the SEIU official was surprising, given that the union had not figured publicly in the investigation into Blagojevich (D). But on another level, the SEIU's apparent involvement is an indication of the extent to which it has, under the leadership of its ambitious and controversial president, Andrew L. Stern, become an omnipresent force in Democratic politics.

With organized labor holding such high expectations for the Obama administration -- notably, hopes for legislation fiercely opposed by business leaders that would make it easier to form unions -- officials of other unions were hoping yesterday that the SEIU's apparent involvement in the Illinois scandal would not undermine their cause in Washington...

ILLINOIS GOV. ROD R. BLAGOJEVICH AND HIS CHIEF OF STAFF
JOHN HARRIS ARRESTED ON FEDERAL CORRUPTION CHARGES

Later on November 5, Blagojevich said to Advisor A, “I’ve got this thing and it’s [expletive] golden, and, uh, uh, I’m just not giving it up for [expletive] nothing. I’m not gonna do it. And, and I can always use it. I can parachute me there,” the affidavit states.

Two days later, in a three-way call with Harris and Advisor B, a consultant in Washington, Blagojevich and the others allegedly discussed the prospect of a three-way deal for the Senate appointment involving an organization called “Change to Win,” which is affiliated with various unions including the Service Employees International Union (SEIU).

On November 10, Blagojevich, his wife, Harris, Governor General Counsel, Advisor B and other Washington-based advisors participated at different times in a two-hour phone call in which they allegedly discussed, among other things, a deal involving the SEIU. Harris said they could work out a deal with the union and the President-elect where SEIU could help the President-elect with Blagojevich’s appointment of Senate Candidate 1, while Blagojevich would obtain a position as the National Director of the Change to Win campaign and SEIU would get something favorable from the President-elect in the future. Also during that call, Blagojevich agreed it was unlikely that the President-elect would name him Secretary of Health and Human Services or give him an ambassadorship because of all of the negative publicity surrounding him.

Search for SEIU in that USDOJ document.

Understand your concern... yet I don't think discussing whether the health care debate fits under federalism is very productive (unless you are concerned about specific division of responsibilities between states and the federal government, e.g., in regulating insurance companies.)

Your concern is about the boundary between the individual and the "state" (whether that be the federal government or a State government.)

The spectrum of responsibilities/rights:

individual---%P%---state

has had a moving barrier (the vertical line) for quite some time, with the growth of government post civil war.

Thanos linked to a concise article by Frum (up in the spinoffs) in which Frum mentions the idea of removing the employer from the equation. That is, having individuals buy health care plans straight from insurance companies (using pre-tax income), and having laws that ensure that such policies be transportable. Interesting idea (though one which also has problems), which addresses the idea of "responsibility" directly.

Much to discuss on this topic...

The BBC have published a debunking of a You Tube hit suggesting that much of Europe is going to become a majority Muslim region. It contains lies:

But the video doesn’t just rely on statistics, it also uses an official Government statement. It quotes it as saying: “The fall in German population can no longer be stopped. Its downward spiral is no longer reversible. It will be a Muslim state by the year 2050.”

The statement in question was made by then vice-president of the Federal Statistics Office, Walter Radermacher, who is now chief statistician of the European Union. He says that while it is true he said Germany’s population was in decline, the last part of the quote [in italics] is just an invention. He said nothing about Germany becoming a Muslim state.

“The quotation which reads as if the German government believed that Germany will become a Muslim state is simply not true,” he says. “There is no source which can be quoted that the German government has published such an expression or opinion.”
Inexact science

The video also claims the German government believes the number of Muslims in Europe will double to 104 million.

Mr Radermacher adds: “That is not true. The German government does not believe that the Muslim population will double in the next 40 or 50 years. There are no reliable sources that give a proof for that assumption.”

The approach that we are now taking is infinitely more risky. The more centralized decision making becomes, the more likely it is to collapse on itself. From his twitter feed: "Time is not a friend of change.America has wAited 233 years for real reform. The Senate must act or history will judge them poorly." I'm not quite sure what to make of that, but one might suspect he finds our founding to be well, flawed.

Well I certainly hope you're correct and I've been misunderstanding what Charles is saying out here.
But I do confess to having a vested interest in this entire health care business; right now Medicare is the only thing slowing down the progress of my cancer and MAY at some point, put it in remission again long enough for the Mayo Clinic to finish it's full tilt boogie trial run of a new drug which CURES even Advanced Prostate cancer and get the drug out to the doctors. So that's a major part of MY bias on this. But I'm also biased because of statments made by Obama and Reid (and Shumer) to the effect of We (the Democrats) have the ability to make this health care "reform law" into law, whether or not ANY Republicans agree with it. Reforming health care in our complex society I think requires a lot more time and a lot more study to accomplish. And frankly, the idea of it being crammed into my life as my health care, whether or not I like it OR HAVE ANY SAY IN IT bothers me enormously.
But I do hope you're right. If Charles decides that there is a lot of angry, upset Americans who are angry and upset because they either don't understand the health care bill or because they do, NOT because they are being astroturfed, then perhaps he'll be able to rein in the MSM once again.

Some are fueled by angry conservative groups. Some are hopped up on radio hosts' rants and ravings. Some are Barack Obama haters. Some use one piece of wrong information to smear an entire event.

And some just think the whole idea of government health care stinks.

But all of them -- all of them -- have the right to be there, and the right to their point of view. Liberal-minded thinkers who regularly speak up for the poor and underprivileged cannot suddenly yank the rug when it comes to free speech for others." [Link: freep.com...]

re: #593 Syrah

So why is the term "astroturfing" being used?

Because rather than being a spontaneous expression generated by the people, it's massaged and guided by fake foundations like FreedomWorks and by various others who are concerned with opposition to the Dem agenda by any means necessary. People's understandable worries and concerns are being manipulated and whipped up into a frothy mess of outrage-- primarily with the objective of creating youtube videos to spread the appearance of this being 'grassroots'. We see opportunists like Palin spreading lies about euthanasia.

Consequently we see hysteria and delusion that bears no resemblance to reality-- seniors on Medicare shrieking about how they don't want government health care. It's sad.

One reason it's sad is that it's shutting down the opportunity for real debate and real understanding about what's being proposed and what isn't. When speakers are drowned out by chants of "Tyranny! Tyranny! Tyranny!" before they even begin to speak-- when their attempt to even answer a question is shouted down-- when they're chased to their cars by angry rabble-- all of this IS profoundly anti-democracy.

The question was, why is this astroturfing? I have answered that.

No, that's not really the question. The question is, why is it "astroturfing" when right-wing political groups establish email lists and encourage members to go and protest, whereas when left-wing political groups do it, it's "activism" or "community organizing" or "letting our voices be heard."

re: #620 iceweasel

You can't judge a movement by the actions of a few and a couple of Youtube videos that have been posted on the web.

As far as 'astroturfing' is concerned the SEIU has been engaged on the front line of this whole "debate" for several years now. They are the masters of 'astroturfing' although that is not the name given to their organized activities that do not meet the criteria of the opposition.

At least Freedomworks doesn't have the distinction of being tied in with political corruption with the likes of Blagojevich, Ludlow, and Humphries as indicated above. That distinction of course belongs to the thugs at the SEIU.

You want "by any means necessary" and a "full contact" sport then you call who the DNC always calls when in need of political muscles: the AFL-CIO, AFSCME, SEIU, and any other union.

Washington Post is now publishing an accounting of how the war in Afghanistan may end up costing much more than Iraq.

[Link: www.washingtonpost.com...]

So where are all of the penny pinchers who said that freedom for Iraqis was too expensive and that the insurgents were freedom fighters and all of that.

Checked the street corners today - no protestors calling for an immediate end of war and brandishing peace signs.

I guess the morality of taking lives comes down to who gets the credit / who takes the blame. Not a new idea to the Left - ask Stalin.

It is a pejorative term in a way that activism or community organizing is not.

Also I wouldn't characterize these protests as astroturf. I'm sure there are some hardcore activists like the RP Revolution guys, and some insurance industry lobbyists as well, but it would be ridiculous to contend that a whole lot of regular people aren't seriously concerned over this.

Even if a radio host is blatantly lying to people to get them whipped up into a frenzy, that isn't astroturfing. Astroturfing is about creating the perception that such a frenzy exists when it does not. If you successfully caused an actual frenzy, you aren't an astroturfer.

Extinct Walking Bat Found; Upends Evolutionary Theory

A walking bat in New Zealand took its marching orders from an ancestor, a new fossil-bat discovery reveals.

Scientists had long thought that the lesser short-tailed bat evolved its walking preference independently.

Since the bat's native habitat lacks predators, researchers reasoned that—much like flightless birds on isolated islands—the bat had adapted to its safer surroundings in part by walking.

But the discovery of fossils of a now extinct walking bat in northwestern Queensland, Australia, suggests that the modern-day bats descended from 20-million-year-old Australian relatives.

"We were amazed to find they were virtually identical to the bats in New Zealand today," said study leader Sue Hand, a paleontologist at the University of New South Wales in Sydney.

I'd like to take this opportunity to re-post a link that I posted earlier in this thread. It's the SEIU's page on health care, encouraging its members to "Take Part in August Health Care Recess Events Across the U.S."

It features a photo of exuberant SEIU members at a demonstration, waving pro-Obamacare placards that were pre-printed by the SEIU, and wearing T-shirts that the SEIU printed up with pro-Obamacare slogans. Next to that photo, there's a link where you can find a list of town hall meetings and other events in your area where the SEIU would like you to go and demonstrate. Below that, there are several lists of talking points that the SEIU would like you to repeat.

And, amongst all those, there's a little story about how terrible it is that the evil right-wingers are "astroturfing" by organizing anti-Obamacare demonstrations.

I didn't see any astroturf groups like you're referring to. I've read similar reports for town halls all around the country. Certainly it has happened, but it's not the majority.

You're being led around by your preconceptions. You're simply unable to comprehend that the majority of the public DON'T WANT THIS and see it as a grave assault on their freedom, if not their lives. Your attitude is precisely why this is rapidly spiraling out of control.

Service Employees (SEIU)
National Headquarters
WASHINGTON, DC 20005

The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) represents 1.7 million employees in the U.S. Its president, Andrew Stern, is credited with (or blamed for) leading dissident unions to split away from the AFL-CIO in 2005 to create the Change To Win coalition.

Few Americans know much about the SEIU, but they should. Here's why:

Andrew Stern has called the AFL-CIO the Democratic Party's bank -- but his own union is regularly a top political spender, most recently through its powerful "527" committee, which gave millions to political candidates. In 2004, Stern spent at least $65 million of his members' money, much of which supported his favored (but ultimately unsuccessful) presidential candidates. A powerful local of Stern's SEIU budgeted another $35 million of its members' money on political advocacy in 2004, according to union activist and lawyer Nathan Newman.

SEIU Local 880 (which represents workers in Illinois) and Local 100 (representing New Orleans, Texas, and Arkansas) are both run by the often-in-trouble "community group" ACORN -- an organization that has been tied to government fraud, Teamsters election fraud, and recurring voter fraud. Local 100 is run by Wade Rathke, ACORN's head organizer and a chief strategist in the multi-union PR campaign attacking Wal-Mart.

re: #558 realwest

"I'm pretty sure Charles wrote somewhere that he hadn't made up his mind about the whole health care thing. Those of us who have made up our minds and don't want this whole mess have more understanding of motivation for protesting it."

Sorry I missed you, realwest. You already said your good-night before I got back.

I was trying to go by memory on what Charles has posted about his feelings on health care, and he said it a little earlier than I had thought. I thought it was in a thread from yesterday. Anyway, here is the link where he says, "I'm undecided on the whole issue of national health care . . ."

Oh, and in relation to Palin's 'Death Panel' :

Ezekiel Emanual, key Obama health care advisor has called for precisely that (if not in those words) in his Principles for Allocation of Scarce Medical Interventions proposal.

Hell, I've seen estimates that 15-20% of deaths in the Netherlands years past are a result of 'Physician assisted suicide without explicit medical request'. That's how they're trying to balance the books.link

Government Health Care in Stealth Mode

Good article by Michael Barone.

Schakowsky is a left-wing Democrat from the north side of Chicago and adjacent suburbs and, as chief deputy whip, part of the House Democratic leadership. The video shows her speaking to an enthusiastic group last April. She cites an insurance company spokesman as saying, "A public option will put the private insurance industry out of business and lead to single-payer." The audience cheers. "My single-payer friends," she goes on, "he was right." Later she adds, "This is not a principled fight. This is a fight about strategy for getting there, and I believe we will."
