Gadget of the Day: Canon EOS 5D Mark II

Technology • Views: 2,993

I have a Nikon D90 digital SLR camera, and love it. I’ve used the D90’s still photography capabilities quite a bit, but one of the items on my to-do list is to further explore the camera’s high definition video features.

The nice thing about a DSLR that shoots HD video is that you can use any SLR lens and/or filter that’s compatible with the camera, allowing a world of effects you just can’t achieve with a camcorder. It’s possible to get an amazingly professional look, if you have high quality lenses and know how to use them.

LGF reader Thanos pointed out this page at the Canon website promoting their new high-end EOS 5D Mark II 21.1MP digital SLR, with a documentary by Dallas-based photojournalist David Leeson that demonstrates the fantastic results you can get (and is pretty interesting in itself). Serious techno-lust ensued.

Those large sensor cameras (the Canon 5D series uses sensors the size of the 35mm film frame) can make high quality images. However, they are expensive, and the better Canon lenses are pretty expensive too.

Note: the 5DMarkII was introduced last year... the current rumors are that Canon will release a follow-on to the 50D that will include advanced video features. (Canon usually announces a new camera in August.)

To me... I prefer film, and large film at that. Digital video is neat, though.

Or the huge sensor in a Hasselblad Digital back, $40k just for the back, body and lens not included.

I have a similar camera. Some of the best macro pics I ever took came from this camera and 25 speed film. I don't think they even sell the film anymore. What I really like about digital is that you can screw up a hundred shots but still get a good one. Makes a big difference when you are shooting under water and about 2/3 of your shots will be junk. Wasted lots of film over the years.

Good evening.

The market was up over 1% today, based on some positive comments by the Fed.

Economy leveling out, but rates to stay low a while

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- The Federal Open Market Committee promised again Wednesday to keep interest rates exceptionally low "for an extended period of time," even as it drew encouragement from the stronger economic outlook.

In its statement after a two-day closed-door meeting, the Federal Reserve's policy-setting FOMC said it would slow its purchases of long-term Treasurys and let the program die a natural death by the end of October, a decision that could send long-term yields higher.

In the main, however, the Fed said its policies are working and expressed no desire to tighten its extremely loose monetary policy. The federal funds target rate will remain at 0% to 0.25%.

When those yields jump, and they will, look for a lot of money to be attracted to it and out of the stock market, to get the higher yield at relatively no risk.

The key, you see, is not just where is the higher possible return. If that were the case, you should invest at the race track on bang tails. No, the key is where do you get the best risk adjusted return.

Gadget of the Day: Canon EOS 5D Mark II

The Canon EOS 5D Mark II is no mere "gadget": I wager it's the best camera ever made.

ISO up to 25,600? ? ? ? That is just insane. You can basically take pictures in total darkness and they'll still come out.

21 megapixels? Detail down to the cellular level.

Any freaking Canon lens on earth, insta-snap-on the SLR body? O.M.G. Among the best and most interesting lens selections imaginable. Infinite possibilities, from outer space photography to microscopy to sports photos to anything.

4 pictures per second in rapid-repeat mode? Holy Cow.

Etc. etc.

Plus, you can make movies with it.

Basically, if you had this camera only 20 years ago, you could rule the world.

47 jcm  Wed, Aug 12, 2009 7:03:43pm

My dad was a shutter bug, during the years we spent as missionaries traveling and in Iran he took 6000 slides.

The oldest ones where starting to fade, so I scanned them all. Use a Nikon LS4000 scanner with feed adapter, 50 slides at time. Hi Res to archive them 135MB for each image.

I'm slowing cataloguing them.

Also a big source of safety. When people stop running red lights the revenue will drop. Also there's photo evidence when somebody runs a red light and kills someone.

Benmosche Said to Start AIG Tenure With Croatian Trip

Aug. 11 (Bloomberg) -- Robert Benmosche, the chief executive officer of American International Group Inc., plans to spend part of his first month leading the insurer in Croatia on vacation, according to two people familiar with the situation.

Benmosche, 65, who started yesterday as CEO and president of the bailed-out company, will leave for about two weeks, according to one of the people, who declined to be identified because the plans were private. 57 Original Kolya  Wed, Aug 12, 2009 7:07:54pm

The 5D Mark II is a fantastic camera and the video quality is breathtaking. But when used as a video camera it has some distinct limitations, the main one being that during a shot there is no realistic way of adjusting the focus to track a moving subject.

As I understand it, cinema-style movie cameras also generally don't refocus during a shot, and when they do it is a highly rehearsed manoeuvre requiring the services of a dedicated focus puller. On the other hand, pretty much every amateur camcorder has continuously tracking auto-focus.

The upshot is that if you want to make home movies you'd find the 5D Mark II frustrating to use; if you want to make broadcast quality videos or short films and are willing to work in a pre-planned systematic way, you can do it for a tiny fraction of the cost it would otherwise entail.

In this respect the 5D Mark II reminds me of the first Apple LaserWriter whose nearest competitor at the time was a $100,000 Xerox laser printer.

true enough, and don't take me too seriously...it's not the red lights, it's the speeding...they clock you going through the intersections...it's a transition from getting run down by a cruiser and people are insecure about it...hey!, slow down!

I'm laughing at the review comments on Amazon. Example of a guy who tested his lenses with the camera:

---

"1. Canon 200mm F/2 IS L lens. This lens is my new master of resolving power. Even wide open at F/2 it is sharper then any other lens I have ever used. I could go on and on but here's a few highlights: Lightening fast auto focus, F/2 speed at 200mm, unbelievable perfect 10 Images, public attention hog, otherworldly image stabilization, great build quality, weather sealed, fantastic perfect buttery smooth Bokeh and what a lens case! If you crave attention and demand the absolute best there is the do what ever it takes to get this lens on your Canon 5D Mark II. If you do not like public attention you may want to skip to number 2 in this list as I have never been asked so many questions about a lens as this one. But it's all worth it as the clarity, sharpness, Bokeh and colors are: otherworldly, insane, impossible, rare, perfect, out of sight, crazy!!

2. Canon 85mm F/1.2 II L lens. Without a doubt at F/4 (after the Canon 200mm F/2 of course) this lens delivers the clearest sharpest and most resolving power onto any photograph you care to take with the Canon 5D Mark II. The clarity has to be seen to be believed. At F/1.2 the Depth of Field (DOF) is scary thin and the edges are super soft which is great for female portraiture. The super soft creamy dreamy Bokeh at F/1.2 is much smoother on the 5D Mark II over my 40D. But stop this lens down to F/1.8 and it gets scary sharp and clear. Step it down to F/4.0 and it's at its sharpest and the only lens I have that gives you 100% pixel peeping razor blade edge to edge top to bottom perfect clarity in every single area of the photo. For some reason this lens is even sharper on my 5D Mark II then my 40D or Rebel, don't know why but it is. Guess it's getting the full resolving power to the 21 megapixel sensor.

Looking at a photo on my iMac taken with a 5D Mark II with this lens stopped down to F/4 is like standing there looking through an open window at the actual scene! You feel like you could actually open up the computer screen like opening a window and climb in!!! "

---

I guess you could call that a ringing endorsement.

Yeah, some where so washed out I thought they were hopeless, the Nikon Digital ICE software was simply stunning in what it could recover.

re: #48 Killgore Trout

If you are still out there, remember the other day you linked an article talking about a U shaped recovery?

Get a load of this one:

The World Is in Trouble’: Deutsche Bank Chief Economist

The global economy still faces turmoil as government try to figure out how to move out of fiscal rescue packages, which could lead to another two downturns, Deutsche Bank Chief Economist Norbert Walter said Thursday.

“I believe that the rescue packages brought on have been so costly for so many governments that the exit from this fiscal policy will be very painful, very painful indeed,” he said. “Some of us are already talking about a W-shaped recovery. I’d probably talk about a triple-U-shaped recovery because there are so many stumbling blocks here to get out of this.”

It all depends on what assumptions you make and how you think the economy reacts to easy money and interest rate changes.

I still have a decent Polaroid and a half dozen film cartridges...since the seventies I've taken that thing down to Jamaica with me to take pictures of folks so they can have them...I've had grown up kids come to me and show me their pictures I took of them 20 years ago...they really dig it...times don't change so fast for everyone...I love that place

Yeah, it's fixed...I'm planning on paying it off when I sell my present home...and hopefully pocketing some $$...how much is the capital gains rate?

Your marginal rate will again depend on the particulars, short term capital gains verse long term, other investments, any losses carried forward, that sort of thing. Make sure you use a professional tax preparer, they are worth it. I have all my statements sent automatically to my accountant.

I cooked a pork meat loaf tonight that had a layer of almost-opaque white bubbling on the top--I thought it was gonna' grow an arm and reach out to grab me. Never in my life have I baked anything that scared me.

I've bred some interesting stuff in the refigerator--like the left-over 1995 Thanksgiving turkey I found in late February that had a pink fuzz on it and appeared to be breathing. And, I'll never forget the 1999 black-eyed-pea-and-tuna salad--it produced such interesting colors and shapes of mold that I shot a whole roll of film.

But, this creation bubbled and burbled. I actually leapt into the air sideways when I got it to the sink so that I could hit the disposer's switch at the same time I dumped it down the drain.

Treasurys improve after 10-year auction, Fed decision

Treasury prices improved on Wednesday, though long-term yields remained higher, after the Federal Reserve said it would slow down its purchases of U.S. debt, keeping a steady buyer in the bond market a little longer than investors previously expected.

The market was lower before the decision, as the government had to pay more than expected to entice investors to buy a record amount of 10-year notes up for auction.

Overcast I could live with -- you know it's coming, everybody suffers equally.

But fog is so goldurn frustrating, because when it parts momentarily there's a beautiful black sky filled with twinkling stars -- for just a moment, and then it's swallowed up again and you can't see two feet in front of you. Wait in vain for half an hour -- a glimpse of sky -- and it's quickly swallowed up again. It drives you crazy that you know the clear sky is just above you, and you can't see it.

Dollar trims losses as Fed hints at end of quantitative easing
British pound recoups a bit as BoE updates inflation outlook

The U.S. dollar trimmed earlier losses against major counterparts on Wednesday after the Federal Reserve left interest rates unchanged, near zero percent, and said it would gradually slow its purchases of Treasurys.

The Fed again promised to keep interest rates exceptionally low "for an extended period of time," even as it drew encouragement from a stronger economic outlook.

The central bank will let its Treasury-buying program, part of its "quantitative easing" measures, end in October. Letting the program end was seen as a first step that the central bank is taking a slightly less accommodative policy stance.

"The optimistic comments from the Federal Reserve and the not-so-subtle hints that the central bank is thinking about an exit strategy drove the dollar higher across all board," said Kathy Lien, director of currency research at GFT Forex.

However, a continued move away from low-yielding currencies, such as the dollar and the yen, and into riskier assets, such as stocks on Wall Street, held the dollar in check, according to analysts at Action Economics.

I'm pretty damn poor too. I can't wait to get my money back out of the market.

You probably need to be in different sectors now than you were last year.

I cleared enough in the last few weeks to pay for my daughters first year of college, after getting even with the market from last year.

There's money to be made out there.

Not Post-Racial Yet

[Link: www.hurryupharry.org...]

Scott’s staff arrived at his Smyrna, Ga., office Tuesday morning to find the Nazi graffiti emblazoned on a sign bearing the lawmaker’s name. The vandalism occurred roughly a week after Scott was involved in a contentious argument over health care at a community meeting.

"Scott, who is black, said he also has received mail in recent days that used N-word references to him, and that characterized President Barack Obama as a Marxist.

“We have got to make sure that the symbol of the swastika does not win, that the racial hatred that’s bubbling up does not win this debate,” Scott said in a telephone interview. “There’s so much hatred out there for President (Barack) Obama.”

A moderate Democrat who represents a majority-white district near Atlanta, Scott said he thinks the racism is isolated but can’t be ignored. He said the swastika probably was intended as a warning. He hopes it instead persuades reasonable people to maintain a more substantive debate over health care changes."

The fact the Scott represents a majority-white district in Georgia suggests that he’s anything but a race-baiting hothead.

Second, there are fascinating results from two polls on the state-level prevalence of the belief that President Obama is not a US citizen.

Tom Jensen of Public Policy Polling has released a preview of a poll showing that 47% of North Carolina Republicans think President Obama is not a citizen — an even more disturbing finding than his previous poll, which found that 41% of Virginia Republicans believed in the myth. By contrast, a Deseret News/KSL-TV poll found that only 13% of Utah Republicans — and 9% of Utahns generally — said that they believe Obama is not a citizen.

The difference is especially remarkable when you consider that Utah is one of the most reliably “red” states in the country, voting for John McCain over Obama last year by 62 to 34 percent.

So what’s behind it? Brendan Nyhan of Pollster.com suggests it has to do with racial polarization– that is, Utah is almost entirely white, while Virginia and North Carolina (both of which Obama carried in the election) have large African-American populations. And Virginia and North Carolina Republicans are overwhelmingly white.

If anyone has a better explanation, I’d be interested.

Bad idea. Kid decides to record you, and then he owns you. Threats like those you suggest are illegal. If a recording of your threats of violence is made part of a criminal complaint, he may get all the access to your daughter he wants while you sit in a cell. At bare minimum he could get a restraining order, which in my understanding would keep you from buying any more guns or ammo until it is lifted.

US deficit forecast to be four times last year’s record

To put some context on a new estimate that puts this year’s federal deficit at $1.8 trillion, consider this: That amount had never been spent by the federal government in a single year until 2000, let alone borrowed.

That’s right. As the decade began, the US government spent $1.8 trillion in a year for the first time. Now it’s poised to spend that much in excess of its tax revenues.

The Treasury released the latest figures Wednesday, showing spending of about $3 trillion in the past 10 months, and revenues of only $1.74 trillion.

With two months to go in the fiscal calendar, the Obama administration is projecting that the imbalance will end up totaling $1.84 trillion, more than four times last year’s record-high. The monthly deficit for July, also reported this week, came in a bit above what economists had expected.

And that's without another trillion and a half for socialized health care or the second stimulus many Democrats are clamoring for.

/as we careen off the debt cliff, Obama's got the spending pedal to the metal

My dad was / is a Preacher - Missionary. When my sisters were teens, their house was, believe it or not, the place to hang out. When ever a kid in my sisters' high school got in trouble, they'd call my parents first, to help them break it to their own parents.

I had a nice Minolta 35mm back in the day. (mid 80's) Everything was manual. Also had a decent collection of zoom lenses and filters. Taking pictures was a big deal for us here and then making sure to put all the pictures in albums for safekeeping after having the film developed.

Now its all digital and you can take 1000 pictures on a week vacation. Over a year's time with the kids, its easy to take thousands of pictures. And even though they are all worth keeping there are so many that you can get complacent and not print any of them out to put into photo albums for safekeeping. Sure its a good idea to back up your photo files onto CD at the very least. But even then, you can lose a CD a lot easier than you can lose a photo album.

My dad was / is a Preacher - Missionary. When my sisters were teens, their house was, believe it or not, the place to hang out. When ever a kid in my sisters' high school got in trouble, they'd call my parents first, to help them break it to their own parents.

hey...I took alot of other kids on vacation...weekend trips, day trips etc...we never turned anybody away no matter what it cost us...that was our 'mission'...we fed and watered 'em all...pre game and post game...they all wanted to hang out with us...it was a cool thing...we provided all the kids with an environment that they were comfortable with...no drugs, no gangsters...just good solid Rockwell style, small town stuff

Congressman Tanner is refusing to apologize or even address this issue, claiming he is above all that.

Hill is a senior partner in a plaintiff's firm, you know--the ones against addressing health-care costs through tort reform.

Photo of a painting... J.W. Westcott II. The Detroit River Mailboat that rides alongside freighters to deliver US Mail to merchant marines and transfer people on and off ships while they travel through Detroit.

Leo painted that in 2001 and we bought the original from him at the Wyandotte Street Fair that summer. The green sky conjured up an image of the worst storm I remember. Had to have it.

Then within a year the boat sank and 2 people died, and 2 others died when they fell into the River while painting the Bridge. And don't get me started about the imagery of the tattered flag or the twin bridge towers or the fact the boat had II in its name or the story about anthrax attacks on the US Mail during the same period.

I saw Leo a couple years later and jokingly blamed it all on the green sky in his painting.

325 Psaturn  Wed, Aug 12, 2009 9:12:20pm

I got this camera (Canon EOS 5D mark II) and I have to say I love it!

Canon also has hosted some classes in LA area (at the Directors Guild of America in Hollywood no less!) and had several prominent photographers teach the day long class including well known Vincent Laforet. I thoroughly enjoyed the class and interacting with world class photographers!

It was interesting to note that the economy has impacted even these world class photographers. And now news photographers are expected to do video too to stay competitive. This camera will be a must for news photographers.

The video quality for this Canon is just amazing and it is attracting the attention from cinematographers. The quality of video is similar to digital video camera costing quarter million dollars! The key thing is the size of the chip. It is full size 35 mm CMOS chip and normally in video cameras they are smaller.

I used Canon 20 D for years and so I was pretty familiar with the settings on the new 5D.

The trouble with this new camera is the large file size for the pictures. About 25 megabytes for each picture. And the need for processing power for computer. That triggered a need for a faster laptop and so I ordered a Quad Core Intel Penryn 2.53 ghz processor 2.55 ghz with NVIDIA Quadro FX 2700M graphics card with triple channel RAM that can be maxed out at 16 gigs. Imagine a Quad Core processor in a laptop! I knew that it would drain batteries so I ordered another 12 cell battery to supplement the 9 cell.

I had choice between raw power versus portability like Apple Mac Pro laptops and I went for the power (and 9.5 pounds of weight).

So far, the Tamron lenses have served me well for the Canon camera for half the price of similar L series Canon lenses. The Tamron 70-200 mm lens with 2.8 aperture is a monster...needs a tripod to hold that lens! Because of the large size chip and increased resolution of 21 megapixels, having an excellent lens is crucial for this camera. I was glad to hear that Zeiss was going to introduce their lenses on Canon mounts soon.

In Dylan's Bio he paid homage to Hank Williams as being one of his biggest influences. Its so true looking back now. I "discovered" the classic HW music just a few years back and its incredible stuff. My fave is Long Gone Lonesome Blues or maybe Lost Highway. But its easy to picture Dylan listening to that as a kid and reaching for the guitar.

re: #46 zombie

Hi Zombie!! You are right on the ruling the world..LOL

You cannot just use any Canon Lens. I learned this hard lesson on ebay. I won a bid for a 1.4 50 mm lens Canon lens for a low price and found out it did not fit my Canon lens. It was an FD mount. It fitted on the old line like AE1 camera. Oops!

And also the EFs series lenses will not fit this camera either.

365 subsailor68  Wed, Aug 12, 2009 9:45:24pm

Evening all! It was wonderful to see the Moody Blues in concert, and ti read the discussion posts on the cameras.

Just got back from interring my mother's ashes in a small town in upstate New York. While we were doing that, my cousin Lynne turned off her phone. Ten minutes later, she turned her phone back on, and immediately retrieved a message that her dad, my mother's oldest brother, had just died. He left this world at precisely the same moment my mother's ashes were placed in her final resting place.

What does that all mean? I don't know, nor would I hazard a guess.

I simply reflect on the uselessness of a camera to capture anything other than life. I'm so glad we have it for that, but am reminded that it cannot ever capture anything but that - when we celebrate the passing of a beloved friend, brother, father - whomever - the sadness happens far too quickly for the shutter to open and close quickly enough to record true emotions as they play out in real time.

And that's as it should be. Those moments should always be captured by the mind's eye - and naught else.

Goodbye, Uncle Dick. My mind's eye remembers you as you would wish to be remembered. And I promise it shall be that...forever.

Well that is your opinion...

There are quite a few professional photographers in the field using Canon L series lenses with great results.

However, I am using Tamron pro series lenses with great results...and they make lenses for both Nikon and Canon. Like I said, Zeiss is going to make Canon mount lenses and there would be no argument which lens is superior!!

Either way, it is how you use the camera and lenses and flashes that is important, not the brand name. I actually used a point and shoot camera for a scenery and the picture came out sublime and ethereal. I was traveling at that time for enjoyment and thus did not want to be burdened with a heavy SLR.

That is why the Olympus Four Third series lenses is such an attractive idea. An SLR in a very small compact body form (it skips the mirror altogether).

WTF?

Even Reza Aslan, who is usually an apologist for Radical Islam, thinks it's idiotic:

Reza Aslan, a religion scholar and the author of “No god but God: The Origins, Evolution, and Future of Islam,” is a fan of the book but decided to withdraw his supportive blurb that was to appear in the book after Yale University Press dropped the pictures. The book is “a definitive account of the entire controversy,” he said, “but to not include the actual cartoons is to me, frankly, idiotic.”

In Mr. Aslan’s view no danger remains. “The controversy has died out now, anyone who wants to see them can see them,” he said of the cartoons, noting that he has written and lectured extensively about the incident and shown the cartoons without any negative reaction. He added that none of the violence occurred in the United States: “There were people who were annoyed, and what kind of publishing house doesn’t publish something that annoys some people?”

“This is an academic book for an academic audience by an academic press,” he continued. “There is no chance of this book having a global audience, let alone causing a global outcry.” He added, “It’s not just academic cowardice, it is just silly and unnecessary.”

The haters didn't get kicked out of here for nothing, CW. Charles is a more than reasonable host, and they pushed the limits of his patience too far.

And I don't see how I can be "mostly in agreement" with someone when they spend the majority of their time talking shit about me.

re: #93 MandyManners

What did humanity do before the garbage disposer?

My favorite part! I've never been so intrigued by old fridge food that I photographed any. I've created a few mold monsters worthy of a roll of film, but let the chance go by. From now on they'll smile for the camera before they meet their fate in the disposal.

My Dad was a Nikon guy. When I went to buy my first DSLR, I went to Dad's camera shop. Kicked the tires, as it were. The salesman convinced me that the Nikon ( which was my preference) was A LOT less user friendly than the Cannon. I didn't believe him. Went home & read the Cnet reviews. WEnt back & bought the Cannon. That was 4 years ago. I LOVE the camera. My 2 cents.

I'm assuming that there isn't an easy way to add a remote mic in your helmet for voice over.

Trying to shield wind noise with normal foam rubber can work, depending on what you have. Mic wind screens are closed cell to prevent the wind from passing through. But, taken to extremes you end up with muffled sound.

So my advice is try it!

You might try an experiment involving you puffing into the mic through your foam filter and also recording with it indoors to see how it blocks wind sounds v/s changes your sound pickup quality???

We're kinda cloudy here. I've been out three times but nada.

Sonoma's a great place to go. Hope you are enjoying it.

re: #495 slokat

I tried an earlier experiment with a Polaroid digital video camera last weekend with horrible results. I since covered the entire top of the camera with a foam windscreen and the sound diminished only by a fraction. Switching to the Canon eliminated a lot more noise, even though the camera is far less aerodynamic - the 'sound vents' are flush; holes in the plastic, rather than a plastic grate cover.

I think I can reduce the noise on this camera dramatically with a little bit of foam. Going to take the morning and experiment.

LOL Hope RW can find some back east. It's really scarce here, even in East L.A.

Well, he should have thought of that before I had a chance to pin the wrap on him.

Headed back to LA tomorrow. End of free time, but vacation has been GREAT! ( Well, except for the lefties I've been travelling with, but we agreed to skip politics on the first day...)

re: #415 Ringo the Gringo

Just curious: If I've posted a spinoff link and it has 10 updings is there a reason why it wouldn't appear among the 'Top Links Overall' ?

I looked your link up and found it, but you're right about it not being in the top, and I don't know why. How that is figured is a mystery to me.

slokat, there is another review related to Canon and Nikon lenses:

[Link: www.radiantlite.com...]

It says that for CONSUMER level lens, Nikon wins over Canon.

But for PROFESSIONAL level lenses, Canon wins over Nikon. On top of being less expensive.

I am still waiting for your "scientific" sources that say that Nikon lenses are better than Canon.

Hmmm . . .

I may have to give going back to being a professional photographer some thought.

I saw this a minute ago for the first time.

Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee answers phone while at a town hall while cancer survivor is asking her a question. Saw the footage.

Classy.

They wonder why we don't love them.

Think she'll have a target on her back for the coming elections?

There was a case in Canada recently -- three fellows shot ducks and little ducklings -- (the ducks were swimming in a pond) -- then they posted the video on YouTube. They thought it was "funny" and claimed not to know that shooting ducks in such a manner is against the law. They received a very mild punishment, imo. (they should have received criminal charges, and never allowed to own a gun again.)

Recently, I saw a bald eagle attacking a hawk (the hawk had something in its talons that the eagle wanted, I guess)...it was a magnificent sight...Also saw some swallows who decided to adapt to living onboard a small ferry...(yes, a whole colony of them -- they'd duck into crevices and nooks and crannies on board the ferry -- they'd then skim across the water to catch insects/catch a drink of water, then fly back to land on portions of the ferry -- while the ferry was in motion -- amazing feats of dexterity -- like landing on an aircraft carrier, since, after all, the ferry was in motion)...(anyway, the Canon camera and the video it takes, looks fantastic...I'm a Canon fan...)

We seem to be having a real epidemic of assholes around here lately.

517 Flounder  Thu, Aug 13, 2009 9:21:54am

DAMMIT, I've hoping for Charles to post on the D90, since I (sorta)proudly own one. The sorta is because when I dropped it off to the repair shop, they said Nikon is a beotch to deal with, all parts 100% backorder, and pros have been switching to Canon. Oh, well better late than never, love all the posts!
