Which makes you have to wonder how hard they looked.

Israeli Army Reports Possible Soldier Abduction

JERUSALEM — The Israeli army said Thursday it was investigating the possibility that one of its soldiers had been seized by a Palestinian group in the center of the country...

Despicable behavior by both Hamas and the UN HRW. I have nothing but compassion and respect for the IDF soldiers I see here in Israel.

18 Joo-LiZ  Thu, Aug 13, 2009 1:41:12pm

Mere Rhetoric has more high-quality pictures and a nice video dealing with the Human Shields in Gaza.

I'm waiting on word from the IDF about their rollcall of the army -- I'm really hoping this was a false alarm, but Ma'an News sounds pretty confident.

19 Sharmuta  Thu, Aug 13, 2009 1:41:19pm

It should also be pointed out how quickly the IDF responded to the report by releasing this video. Refuting/debunking this propaganda against Israel quickly can make a big difference. Of course, it would be better if the IDF didn't have to, but this is reality.

20 Kragar  Thu, Aug 13, 2009 1:41:52pm

I was not specific in stating a sustained ground search by IDF forces conducting house to house searches and separating civilians and removing them from the combat area while engaging and destroying Hamas personel and support infrastructure in my previous statement.

One of the deletions could be taken as a call to violence, and the other quoted it.
The 2nd one was, in fact, quoted elsewhere, but since it didn't have the original offending quote (quotes of quotes are removed when quoting), was left in. Of course, after Charles reads this, it might get deleted, too.

In one sense, the video is actually being charitable. One question that should be asked, but won't, is why the civilians didn't turn in the terrorist using them as a shield when the opportunity arose. I suppose one could say they feared retaliation, but there are other possibilities as well.

The IDF arrest the little shit and take him away for investigation? They are running the war like a police action, and the HRW bottom feeders still accuse them of "nazi storm troop" tactics.

I don't suppose it has ever occurred to HRW and the other media shills that if Israel actually did perform "nazi storm troop" tactics that there would be Palestinian casualties in the hundreds of thousands instead of the 1300 that were reported?

The MFMSM could be showing live video of a reporter falling into a tunnel entrance, and saying on a live mike "Look at all the missiles here!" and it would still be an "alleged" tunnel and "alleged" weapons smuggling.

I hate this shiite. The Paleofreaks will just say that the IDF photoshopped it or otherwise made it up, even when every bit of evidence shows that the Pals use every dirty trick in the book to cower under the skirts of women and children . loaded with weapons and disregarding civilian safety.
Any group of people who would place a corpse as a shield for an IED under a blanket in an ambulance and race it into the emergency room of an Israeli hospital will not be influenced by moral outrage.

46 Morganfrost  Thu, Aug 13, 2009 1:54:01pm

1) Terrorist plants IED.
2) Terrorist hides among civilians.
3) Israelis surround house.
4) Civilians shield terrorist; Israelis can only identify him through IDF pics.
5) Israelis arrest terrorist.
6) Israelis release civilians.
7) Israelis release terrorist and 399 more like him in exchange for platitudes or possibly the mangled remains of an Israeli.
8) Go back to step 1.

If you want to blame the Israelis for something, blame them for failing to seriously discourage terrorism.

47 Shiplord Kirel  Thu, Aug 13, 2009 1:54:25pm

Face it, there is a natural affinity between commercial media culture, including auxiliaries like HRW, and terrorists. It all goes back to "illusion of rebellion" advertising appeals and the successful exploitation of the 60s counterculture (think "Che t-shirt"). These were so successful, in fact, that they define the internal culture of the media-industrial complex to this day.
For much more on this relationship between commercial media and leftist politics, see Thomas Frank's landmark cultural history, The Conquest of Cool
Business Culture, Counterculture, and the Rise of Hip Consumerism.

I have called this book the "Rosetta Stone of media bias."

Speaking of Rosetta Stone, I noticed that ads for the language software of that name have changed the accent when they pronounce the name, from RoSETta Stone to Rosetta STONE. It sounds like a person's name now. I have to wonder just what percentage of the audience knows that the Rosetta Stone is an actual rock and not the name of some lady who owns the company?

I can see people asking themselves "Now who the hell is this Rosetta Stone anyway?.

This reminds me of a little mystery I encountered a few years ago in the town of Andrews Texas. I had to drive through there on business for a few weeks. On my first trip, I saw a big sign at the city limits proudly declaring Andrews to be the "Home of Kirby West!"
I had never heard of Kirby West and was wondering who that could be. I couldn't think of any footballs stars, C&W celebrities, or NASCAR drivers by that name, so I was stumped. After a few trips, though, I had to turn off the highway onto a side street for some reason and ended up coming face to face with "Kirby West." This was not a person, but a complex of modern light industrial buildings. As a helpfully illustrated sign out front explained, it is in fact the factory where Kirby vacuum cleaners are made.

Right wing extremist hoax...

Man pleads guilty to racial threat using fake Facebook account

An African-American man has pleaded guilty after being accused of impersonating a white supremacist in a fictitious Facebook account to make death threats against an African-American university student.

Dyron L. Hart, 20, of Poplarville, Mississippi, pleaded guilty Wednesday before U.S. District Judge Kurt D. Engelhardt to one count of communicating threats in interstate commerce, according to a Department of Justice statement.

Hart admitted creating the fictitious account in November, pretending to be a white supremacist outraged by the election of Barack Obama as the nation's first African-American president, the statement said.

He then transmitted a death threat via Facebook to an African-American student at Nicholls State University in Louisiana, saying he wanted to kill African-Americans because of Obama's election, according to the statement.

A court document provided by the U.S. attorney's office said Hart told an FBI interviewer that he intended the threat to be a prank "to get a reaction."

This whole post racial thing is working out great.

Man, just think of how easy it would be able to trust your news source 100% all the time. Not have to constantly worry that what you're watching is biased one way or the other. Not having to do rigorous fact checking ...

That'd be great

No, They're ceramic coated.

I remember being amazed a week or two ago when Charles posted a thread about HRW being on the right side of something or other. I forget now exactly what it was but it seemed as if Hell had indeed frozen over.

It is safe to say Hell is back to normal.

The United States of America...in Iraq..we alternated bombs and food

Perhaps in volume, but nowhere near to the same scope in terms of what later became a tangible benefit in winning over support of the populace.

At the risk of appearing unfeeling, I think that Shalit would have been better off if Hamas murdered him soon after he was captured. The notion of his lingering for years as their captive is nauseating.

I don't believe Hamas savages have the discipline to keep him alive.

And the West Bank, of course I was only thinking about since Hamas took over Gaza, factored out since 67, it probably does dwarf the US in Iraq

re: #75 CaptObviousman

Well color me surprised.

I've never understood why the media considers it "in it's best interest" to not cover this stuff.

As a general rule, the "progressive narrative" is the orthodoxy within the echo chamber that is the MSM's newsrooms. Part of that "narrative" is the "Inevitable Triumph" of world socialism, and all of its associated phenomenon- such as the Palestinian movement- because it's just, well, correct ("erroneous neither in fact or philosophy", to use a phrase from the Catholic Church's debate over the heliocentric theory translated into English).

With that in mind, and cognizant of their self-perceived future role' as the "king makers" in a post-modern, post-democracy, post- Evil Western Civilization world... they aren't about to do anything to impede, or offend, those they see as their future partners in rule.

Of course, they never get around to asking those entities their own opinion of themselves (the MSM). If they did, they might be having second thoughts about being so accommodating.

Or they could, of course, just study history; it's always been SOP with the Islamists to behead those who betrayed their own people to assist an Islamist conquest first, on the grounds of not leaving them free to betray the Islamists in turn.

But equally of course, one of the conceits of the "post-modern" mindset is that history doesn't apply to them, either.

cheers

eon

The reality is the "civilians" were harboring ,aiding and protecting!
I've said it before ...If ya do that here in the states with a murderous felon you get what ya deserve!

I know the reality and your arguement certainly is true to some extent.

But there definately is some "Not in my backyard" feelings from civilians that, though they support the groups, don't care to have their families or houses destroyed because some hamasniks need their house to attack IDF soldiers.

When Gilo was being fired upon nightly back in the day, from a neighboring Arab village, no one thought that it was the owners of the house or even villagers from that village doing the firing.

They were most definately herded into the bathroom and told to STFU and take it.

"Kidnapped" Soldier Update:

IDF claims a false alarm

Roll call turns up nobody missing.

Now we just have to see if this mysterious "Al-Quds" Terrorist group that claimed responsibility dissappears or comes up with something substantive.

Thank G-d.

It could've been an exercise. I've participated in mock "IDF Soldier Kidnapped" exercises when I served at check points.

It caused a shitload of traffic, but the Israelis understood- because they all serve at one point or another.

We got so sick of answering the "what happened" questions that we said that Michael Jordan was here on a peace mission and went missing!

ATTN: Foodies
I bought a set of Chantal cookware today. Has anyone used them before?

Holy cow! One of those sets costs more than every pot and pan in my house! (Sorry. Not meant to be a snarky critique. It's just that I'm not a foodie, and I turn positively green around the gills when I see the prices on "foodie" cookware.)

The wall was actually a pretty good idea. And, yes, the Israelis get their hands slapped no matter what they do-- since they can count on being accused of the most heinous of all possible offenses merely for building a wall, they might as well quit trying holding back.

I remember when all the US loonies went over to Iraq before the very first gulf war and then were completely *shocked, shocked* when Saddam was actually going to deploy them at sites.

On a completely different subject, have you seen the comments at YouTube lately? I was just now reading the Sheila Jackson-Lee ones and I have to say, the only explanation I can think of is that there are paid political agitators out there planting false-flag information. The only other explanation is that we're all a nation of uneducated bigots who can't see past the end of our nose (or other body part).

Which makes you have to wonder how hard they looked.

I haven't wondered since the 70's. The U.N. flag has been flown next to terrorist flags for quite some time in almost every country in the region. The sole purpose of the corrupt organization called the U.N. has been Israel bashing for decades now. My daughter recently returned from Tel-Aviv, and notes that the UN and Hamas actually share buildings in Gaza. The UN and Hizbellah share buildings in Lebanon. If it even crossed their mind to look, I'd be surprised.

Followed shortly by: IDF had to regretfully announce that these civilians were hideously tortured and mutilated after being identified in this video.

Martyrs for the cause of peace. It would be a change of pace for the Palestinians to have them for that cause. Might start weakening Hamas' hold.

But maybe that's still too cold of me. What I really wish would be to see would be the IDF surrounding the house and having the civilians toss out the terrorist's dead body. No one need be ID'd.

Yeah, I know. A man can dream, cant he?
