Human Rights Watch Author Supported Munich Massacre

Even for someone like me who expects very little in the way of ethics from the astoundingly biased NGO Human Rights Watch, this report is a jawdropper.

The author of the last HRW report accusing Israel of “war crimes” is a radical Marxist who has written in explicit support of terrorist violence against Israel — and even applauded the 1972 massacre of Israeli athletes at the Munich Olympics: Who Is Human Rights Watch’s Joe Stork?

Joe Stork, a senior official in Human Rights Watch, which accuses the IDF of killing Palestinians who waved white flags, is a fanatical supporter of the elimination of Israel. He was a friend of Saddam, ruled out negotiations and supported the Munich Massacre, which “provided an important boost in morale among Palestinians.”

Last Thursday, many world media outlets covered the press conference in which a senior Human Rights Watch official, Joe Stork, presented the report accusing Israel of killing twelve Palestinians in the Gaza Strip who waved white flags during Operation Cast Lead. Stork, the person identified with the report, has a unique history of Israel-hating: He supported the murder of Israeli athletes in Munich, was an avid supporter of Saddam Hussein and more.

Several times in the past, Stork has called for the destruction of Israel and is a veteran supporter of Palestinian terrorism. Already as a student, Stork was amongst the founders of a new radical leftist group, which was formed based on the claim that other leftist groups were not sufficiently critical of Israel and of the United States’ support of it. Already in 1976, Stork participated in a conference organized by Saddam Hussein which celebrated the first anniversary of the UN decision that equated Zionism with racism. Stork, needless to say, arrived at the conference as a prominent supporter of Palestinian terrorism and as an opponent to the existence of the State of Israel.

He also labeled Palestinian violence against Israel as “revolutionary potential of the Palestinian masses”—language that was typical of fanatical Marxists.

In articles which he authored during the 1970’s, Stork stated that he was against the very existence of Israel as an “imperialistic entity” and, to this end, provided counsel to Arab regimes on how to eliminate the Zionist regime. He also was opposed to any negotiations since this meant recognizing its existence: “Zionism may be defeated only by fighting imperialism,” wrote Stork, “and not through deals with Kissingers.”

This type of "philosophy" goes back to Sartre and other intellectuals of the far left. If your goal is to destroy the Western way of doing things, then supporting Israel is a no-go. They are democratic, innovative, capitalist and fiercely proud of their national identity.

However, Arab nations with huge illiteracy rates, who are arguably under the thumb of petro-politics are natural choices for a Marxist agenda. The Marxists believed that they could parley pan-arabism into a Marxist sentiment - if only Marxism didn't mean eradicating religious belief. Of course, the Marxists never put together the fact that Muslims actually believe in their religion, and that one can not smugly educate the opiate of the masses out of a deeply religious people.

The fact that people this utterly divorced from reality ever get anywhere in politics has always astounded me. Not only is everything seen through a filter, but it is seen through a very imaginative filter of crazy. You actually need to be very smart to be that disconnected from reality.

I am reminded of a story about Orwell, who was stuck on a train with a fiery young communist. Orwell said:

"You must be an intellectual."

The fiery young man took this as a great compliment. He said:

"Yes, why did you say that?"

Orwell replied,

"Because only an intellectual could be that stupid."

I have a long history with Human Rights Watch. After my Red Cross Ambulance report absolutely obliterated their claim that Israel was intentionally targetting ambulances in the 2006 Lebanon War, HRW took the extraordinary step of writing an entire report specifically to attack me and my claims. I then counter-rebutted their report with a newer better dismantling called UPDATE to The Red Cross Ambulance Incident: The Human Rights Watch Report.

After that, they were well and properly silenced.

If all it takes is a single person to successfully defeat their entire staff on one particular point, then I think their credibility is and forever shall be in the toilet.

There's an interesting scene in Reds, where John Reed travels to Azerbaijan and delivers a speech which is being translated into the local language. He later figures out that his Soviet handlers in fact relayed a call for jihad, rather than international revolution. He's upset, they're matter of fact about it. You use what works.

From the article:

Israel is called upon to provide explanations in the wake of Human Rights Watch reports. It is about time that Israel publicly exposed the ideological roots of several of this organization’s leaders and demands the dismissal of these supporters of terrorism and haters of Israel. Until then, Israel, justifiably, cannot seriously comment on criticism from such a body.

Oh, to be a fly on the wall of a candid discussion at HRW about how to counter this article:

But that's just an ad hominem attack. The report asserts that Israel killed Palestinians who were waving a white flag. The report, of course, must be true, because it comes from Human Rights Watch, and Human Rights are good.

It is immaterial who authored the report. Talk about the author implicitly suggests that some human rights workers might lie. And that is unthinkable.

Especially if he's proved his credentials as a socialist, and a socialist who thinks nations matter: i.e. a national socialist.

Most especially if he's proved his credentials as a national socialist who has a revolutionary workers conscience. His party is the National Socialist Workers Party.

He marches in the company of the best of the best: Lenin, Mao, Guevara, Chavez, and of course, Goebbels and that bunch.

Wait---maybe we should limit circulation of the last three paragraphs to initiates?

A fancy name on the door is no guaranty of any ethical content in the room. HRW has lost the right to be taken seriously, ever, on any topic.

It's rough, because HRW has a lot of credibility with what someone above called 'normal progressives', people who aren't malicious, but concerned with human rights. the Marxist left supporting Iran in its getting nukes to destroy the Zionist enity just fits with Joe Stalins anti semitism.

Imagine my dismay this last spring, when I learned my very smart, very "concerned" nephew had taken a summer job with HRW, in NYC. He's just graduated from NYU, and plans to go to law school in about a year, after doing some philanthropic work in South America.

I've been following these charlatans for some time now, like others around here. This revelation doesn't surprise me a bit, given their usual pattern of being on the wrong side in nearly every international situation.

Also take note where the islamists originally learned about "armed" and "poltical" wings from.

Well, of course, the Palestinian model began as an essentially Marxist one, and did very well with the international left and left-leaning on those grounds.

A couple dozen doctoral theses will be written before the end on the relationship of Islamic fundamentalism to Marxist structure in Palestinian politics of the early 21st century.

"From: S. Jones

I don't see why zombietime should question that Israeli projectiles should punch clean cylindrical holes in the pavement without a surrounding bulge. Everyone knows that when Wile E. Coyote falls from a great height in his various attempts to catch the roadrunner, he punches a clean coyote-shaped hole in the ground. The material that was once in the hole always disappears completely. Wile E. then climbs out of the hole to go to a new roadrunner capturing scheme. It has always been that way. The doubters need only watch more cartoons."

supported the Munich Massacre, which “provided an important boost in morale among Palestinians.”

Stork would probably feel conflicted with a recent German court ruling:

Court says Nazi slogan is legal in English

He'd have to weigh his glee from The Holocaust against the notion of a pure race and the resulting 'lack of morale' on the part of Palestinians.

re: #117 solomonpanting

"Heil Hitler!" sounds in French much nicer ("Vive Itleer!") and the rough "Sieg Heil" sounds in French ( “A la victoire!") like a toast. Even the Nazi-Classic "Jew kick the bucket!" looses some of its aggressiveness as “Mort aux Juifs!”.

Then the author goes on to say "What investigator knows "pig jew" is “Parszywy zyd” in Polish?" and asks what's "fuck your mother" in Russian again. He concludes by saying he welcomes the ruling, because now he can say “Heirs of Freisler incorporated” instead of saying it in German, which the courts might not like (see here why), or just “Freisler unlimited”.

One of my favourite commentators. :-D

Remember the "Palestinians dancing in the streets" videos after 9/11?

It took the organized Jew-hating Left less than a day to come out with claims that they were fraudulent, with emails going around purporting to show that they couldn't be true.

It took even less time for reasonable people to prove that the fraud claims were false.

One person I know sent me the false claims. When I replied proving they were bogus, he immediately switched to "have you ever been to a refugee camp?" I told him never to email me his lying, whining, Arafatuous propaganda again.

He hasn't. But I'm morally certain he would instantly find a way to justify Mr Stork.

re: #91 LudwigVanQuixote

ON this we agree.

re: #91 LudwigVanQuixote

WE also agree on the importance of pampering pretty women. I have three on my hands, being my beauteous wife of 25 years, and two amazing daughters of 18 and 16. Whatever else happens, I did something right along the way, to have this family.

As for the AGW-thing, I have studied the matter closely for many years, and I am not optimistic about my chances of convincing anyone who's currently committed to "The Warmening," which is my title for the horror-tale being writ by the Gore-Hansen crowd. I am firmly convinced the whole thing will blow over in the next decade or so, as the planet refuses to play along. If I'm wrong, I'll be the first to admit it.

167 Cato the Elder  Sun, Aug 16, 2009 11:37:20am

In caring for wood floors, it is important to keep in mind the shine/slip ratio. Too much shine and you're likely to slip. Something that Sarah Palin could tell you all about.

Palin is the former gov there

Your wood floor is being protected by PALIN!

Aliens

Dez here is my review for District 9
this movie is not for everybody, i personally liked it, i heard few teenagers were not happy about D9, but really what do they know. This movie is about bigotry and hate, with aliens, good acting job by main actor, he is unknown, Director did a great job, some parts of it shot in documentary format. Thanks Piter Jackson.

Can this be? A double standard?

In short, we have an unprecedented opportunity to send a clear message to the Arab and Muslim world: the United States will support all those who strive for freedom, democracy, and human rights. You, Mr President, have recently relayed such a message in your inaugural address when you said: "To those who cling to power through corruption and deceit and the silencing of dissent, know that you are on the wrong side of history, but that we will extend a hand if you are willing to unclench your fist."

Ah, those glorious, hopeful, sunny first days of the Revolution! How simple things were, how close we were to ending the strife with our Muslim friends.

WTF happened?

Remember the "Palestinians dancing in the streets" videos after 9/11?

It took the organized Jew-hating Left less than a day to come out with claims that they were fraudulent, with emails going around purporting to show that they couldn't be true.

It took even less time for reasonable people to prove that the fraud claims were false.

One person I know sent me the false claims. When I replied proving they were bogus, he immediately switched to "have you ever been to a refugee camp?" I told him never to email me his lying, whining, Arafatuous propaganda again.

He hasn't. But I'm morally certain he would instantly find a way to justify Mr Stork.

re: #225 Cato the Elder

You think in categories too exclusive. There is a kind of stupidity that is also a vice. The Catholic theologians know all about it. Vincible vs. invincible ignorance.

I haven't sorted out the taxonomy of Sarah's ignorance yet, because she really is only interesting enough to mock, not to study. That will change if the general level of mental illness in this country bids fair to propel her into any kind of power.

The political version of vincible ignorance is in great abundance and discriminates against no political party. It's also a likely element relied upon in many a political attack and political defenses. It is why I don't believe big government can be fully trusted.

The sad thing is that if Hamas just changed its name to "The Fuzzy Bunny Lovers for Peace" they would probably win over even more supporters for their vile cause.

Someone needs to ask Joe about Uday's penchant for torturing his Iraqi Olympians.

But you see, torturing Olympians who had failed to demonstrate the potential of the Arab masses, is in itself a demonstration of the revolutionary potential of the Arab masses! The Iraqi Ba'ath party was "socialist"* so any criticism of its actions would be counterrevolutionary!

___
*My use of this term is not intended to malign actual Socialists, whose agenda may not include torture. It is intended to point out that Saddam's Ba'ath party did call itself "Socialist", a name which was not entirely descriptive but which did rope in a lot of supposedly "smart" leftists, like those on HRW, who understood the word to mean "he's on OUR side against the Capitalist Imperialists in our OWN evil countries".

STALINISM was anti semitic to the core so you could be baathist and be a socialist anti semite. the national pan arab socialism fits in with the stalinist socialism in one country pattern stalin had before ww2

283 Enkidu90046  Sun, Aug 16, 2009 1:47:46pm

re: #282 yochanan

What I was stating is actually a historical fact. The Ba'ath party was created and established explicitly to model itself after National Socialism. That is the origin of the Ba'ath party -- admiration of and an attempt to model themselves off of the Nazi party and Adolph Hitler.

The Mufti of Jerusalem was not a member of the Ba'ath party. The Ba'ath party as founded in 1941 by Christian Arab Michel Aflaq and Sunni Arab Salah al ditan Bitar (both graduates of the Sorbonne, interestingly) was a secular, pan Arabist group (and yes, of course, one that reached out to Hitler against the British) which in its discourse on the "Will of the People" nd the "Idea of the Nation" etc etc had obvious links to European fascism (French and Italian as well as German incarnations). The Ba'ath party also adopted a lot from the Marxists/Communists of the day, including a secretive and rigidly hierarchical party organization. Politically they are usually described as "center/left", they did really believe in some sort of "socialism".

Ba'ath co founder Michel Aflaq lived out his days in Iraq, where Saddam kept him under house arrest and did not permit anyone to speak to him. Saddam's version of "Ba'ath socialism" may not have been his, but his was creepy enough in its own way.

Stalin, as he would have been happy to tell you before he shot you, was a Communist, not a Socialist.

My apologetic footnote on "socialists" was directed at the European or American "soft socialists", like those in Sweden or England or sometimes the DNC. Not in any way to minimize, HRW-style, the bloodthirsty nature of Communist dictatorships the world over.

I would not want self-described Socialists running my economy, they have their own problems, but they don't seem to be big on torture or mass murder.

re: #285 yochanan

I don't think I would refer to the Iraqi Ba'ath leadership as being Stalinist or Communist. The Ba'ath party started in Syria in the 1930s or 1940s (my memory is a little vague) and was explicitly modeled on Nazism. What pushed the Arab nations (and the Ba'athists) into the Soviet orbit was that the communist bloc were their natural allies against Israel. However, they did resist the Soviet's attempts to turn them into a communist regime. Saddam himself was anything but a Communist or a Stalinist. Again, my memory is a bit vague since it has been several years since I have read about the issue, but noted Israeli historian Efraim Karsh has an excellent biography about Saddam Hussein.

By the way, none of this in any way is meant to dismiss or minimize the anti-semitism and outright evil of Stalinism or Communism, only to point out that the Ba'athists were neither nor did they have their particular brand of anti-semitic roots in the far left, but rather in the far right (with a healthy dose of religiously and culturally inspired hatred). I cannot remember who it was who famously observed that Jews have always been trapped between the red and the black, but it is no less true today than it was when it was first observed. The far left and the far right both hate the Jews and Israel.

Does the Mossad even exist anymore?
I remember times as they handle these things...hunt down terrorists worldwide...going after the Munich massacre guys and so on.
And the Arabs feared us.

But for years - nothing!

Are they really gone, the times when you being the bad guy had to expect to find a company of Israeli paratroopers at dawn in your backyard after taking Jewish hostages at the evening before.

Dang. Haven't heard anyone talk about "revolutionary potential of the [fill in the blank] masses" in so long, since the fall of the Berlin Wall. It kind of brings a wave of anti-nostalgia.

I am so grateful that the idiots who praise, "with enthusiastic tone, every century but this and every country but" their own have now moved on to different hackneyed rhetorical phrases.

Talk like that doesn't bring a wave of anti-nostalgia to me, it just makes me want to hurl...

After that, they were well and properly silenced.
If all it takes is a single person to successfully defeat their entire staff on one particular point, then I think their credibility is and forever shall be in the toilet.

While I agree with what you said in the aforementioned post, I think it's wishful thinking to expect HRW's reputation to buckle in the public arena. The anti-semitic faction of the left-wing ruthlessly uses bogus information to demonize Israel and Jews at every opportunity. A public denouncement of the report is in order, but the damage is done. The infernal double-standard continues to plague Israel.
