Quote from an article:
"What? Weight Watchers is using Jenny as a spokesperson, too? I've fortunately been spared seeing that--yet."
weight loss of her gray matter??
Well at least it's not a "Manage the CDC" game. I'm sure her blond bounciness will sell lots of games. Can't say I won't laugh if she shows up in the game wearing a leotard with little circle-slashed syringes on it.
White House appears ready to drop 'public option'
WASHINGTON – Bowing to Republican pressure, President Barack Obama's administration signaled on Sunday it is ready to abandon the idea of giving Americans the option of government-run insurance as part of a new health care system.
Facing mounting opposition to the overhaul, administration officials left open the chance for a compromise with Republicans that would include health insurance cooperatives instead of a government-run plan. Such a concession probably would enrage Obama's liberal supporters but could deliver a much-needed victory on a top domestic priority opposed by GOP lawmakers.

I'm not sure why the writer kept referring to her as a "wingnut". Is he trying to paint her as right wing? Everywhere outside of the NHL, the term "wingnut" is used to slur conservatives.

Well, maybe it's regional. I grew up in PA/NJ and "wingnut" always just meant someone who was nuts. Like whack job or screw loose, etc. I honestly didn't start associating that with a conservative slight until maybe the last five years.
Jenny McCarthy has certainly fallen under fire for being the way she is. Last year, actor Amanda Peet spoke out strongly against parents who choose not to vaccinate, calling them "parasites." [Read the interview with Amanda Peet here.]
Other parents joined the chorus (here on Shine and many other sites), prompting McCarthy to respond with a clarification that she is not anti-vaccination but is against the way they are administered to children who are potentially more vulnerable than others:
"I think vaccines are one of the greatest things ever invented," she said. "I used to be [Peet] before I had a kid with autism."
Yep, the semi naked queen of the toilet seat advertisement (Candy's shoe ad) reinvents herself as health expert. blech. Cutesy smile and undies around the ankle tells me all I need to know about ms.jenny on the pot.

I recall seeing that. Was she giving health advice that long ago?
To me, "Stupid" is being a condescending prick on the internet, speculating on the intelligence of others who have actually done something in life, and not seeing how transparent they are themselves.
A warning that the new swine flu jab is linked to a deadly nerve disease has been sent by the Government to senior neurologists in a confidential letter.
The letter from the Health Protection Agency, the official body that oversees public health, has been leaked to The Mail on Sunday, leading to demands to know why the information has not been given to the public before the vaccination of millions of people, including children, begins.
It tells the neurologists that they must be alert for an increase in a brain disorder called Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS), which could be triggered by the vaccine.
GBS attacks the lining of the nerves, causing paralysis and inability to breathe, and can be fatal.
The letter, sent to about 600 neurologists on July 29, is the first sign that there is concern at the highest levels that the vaccine itself could cause serious complications.
It refers to the use of a similar swine flu vaccine in the United States in 1976 when:
* More people died from the vaccination than from swine flu.
* 500 cases of GBS were detected.
* The vaccine may have increased the risk of contracting GBS by eight times.
* The vaccine was withdrawn after just ten weeks when the link with GBS became clear.
* The US Government was forced to pay out millions of dollars to those affected.

if you have a naked Oprah link please keep it to yourself...
My family Dr. is perfectly good for writing prescription, but when I want real medical advice I seek out the wisdom of Sean Penn, Tom Cruise and other high profile health advisors.

I just found out innoculations have been witheld from my grandaughter - her mother, a very smart woman, is listening to the scare-you crap coming from the Oprah camp of the medical community.
This is really troubling. Where do you find a celebrity to counter this insanity?
Was talking to someone the other day (in person, no less) who was anti- Vick. Thought he should never get a job again.
The same person also believed that felons should be allowed to vote.
D-I-S-C-O-N-N-E-C-T!
Hmm this made me think a bit, not sure how I feel about it. I guess I think a felon who is still serving sentence should not be allowed to vote. Once the full sentence including probation is completely I think they should be able to vote. Giving the incentive to the idea that mistakes can be overcome if you work at it.

Reminds of that noted Climatologist Al Gore leading the Global Warming Movement.
Will it be covered under Obama-care? Are the anti-vaxxers for or against this bill, I wonder?
We've already seen that the anti-vax crowd splits ideologically. I hazard a guess that the leftward-leaning anti-vaxers favor the bill, and the rightward-leaning not only oppose it, but are starting to speculate that they would be forced to vaccinate under it.
and your 1st thought6 WOULD be to type "jenny mcarthy naked" insted of "jenny mcarthy anti-vax"
Amazing what the mind can do, son't cha know!
The post was about doing what she does best so I google to support it. Are you, instead, supporting her anti-vax credentials as being higher than her naked ones?
So next time we discuss Nancy Peslosi backing the health care plan you'll automaticallu google "NANCY PELOSI NAKED", right?
For as much as you might dislike Nancy Pelosi I don't think you want me backing and linking to her naked credentials over her health care ones. Would you?

Just my projection, based on past performances.
That's what I was just thinking. They will be for it before they are against it.

You look at and post all the naked links you care too
Interestingly, she attended Rev. Wright's church for a while, and left--partly because she was starting to reach out to a broader audience.
Intriguing that she realized he was divisive, and our president didn't. She's got a good head for show business.
Not such a good head for choosing medical experts, unfortunately. Even Dr. Oz apparently backed her up on the whole idea of American blacks having thyroid problems due to natural selection during the Middle Passage, which has been pretty well debunked, I think.
When I first glanced at this I thought you wrote testicles, realized my error, laughed, and then realized that was probably true too, at least metaphorically.
Perhaps in the past "wingnut" may have referred to a radical of either persuasion, but not anymore. The writer knows exactly the context of the word.
And sure there are right wing nuts who push anti-vaccine BS. But Jenny McCarthy isn't one of them.
Oh I was just commenting on the term itself man not the article. I didn't even read it. When I think Jenny Mccarthy I google "Jenny mccarthy naked" unlike my good friend sattv4u2 who, when he thinks of Jenny Mccarthy googles "jenny mccarthy anti-vax".

McCarthy should be aware of the historical company she keeps on the anti-vac front. Here's a particularly odious one, titled "The vaccination" Streicher

If she's a health expert, Sarah Palin is qualified to run a dog pound.
Palin was reelected mayor, serving two three-year terms.
She later chaired and reformed the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, protesting what she called the "lack of ethics" of fellow Republican members.
After resigning from the commission, Palin filed a formal complaint against Oil and Gas Conservation Commissioner Randy Ruedrich, also the chair of the state Republican Party, accusing him of doing work for the party on public time and of working closely with a company he was supposed to be regulating. She also joined with Democratic legislator Eric Croft to file a complaint against Gregg Renkes, a former Alaskan Attorney General, accusing him of having a financial conflict of interest in negotiating a coal exporting trade agreement, while Renkes was the subject of investigation and after records suggesting a possible conflict of interest had been released to the public. Ruedrich and Renkes both resigned and Ruedrich paid a record $12,000 fine
In 2006, running on a clean-government platform, Palin defeated incumbent Governor Frank Murkowski in the Republican gubernatorial primary. She had championed ethics reform throughout her election campaign.
Her first legislative action after taking office was to push for a bipartisan ethics reform bill. She signed the resulting legislation in July 2007, calling it a "first step", and declaring that she remained determined to clean up Alaska politics
Palin signed a bill authorizing the State of Alaska to award TransCanada Pipelines—the sole bidder to meet the state's requirements—a license to build and operate a pipeline to transport natural gas from the North Slope to the Continental United States through Canada ...
... in 2009, Cato the Elder said she wasn't qualified to run a dog pound.

I've always been a fairly avid gamer. As of now, Ubisoft joins EA on the boycott list.
Had a rather severe problem with their copy protection on Mass Effect. Basically, I couldn't run it after install, despite owning a legit copy of the game.

Did you ever answer my question about the government being the market to which your gold mine sells it's gold? It seems like everyone in that thread kept ignoring that question repeatedly.
She certainly fascinates ME. I can't stand her, and yet, every time something new happens, I can't stop staring. It's like a car wreck that smiles peppily at you.
Believe me, you aren't missing anything. I miss Jay Leno, and putting him on at 10 PM was, IMHO, a biiig mistake on the part of gormless NBC...O'Brien is a putz, and has had enough nasty anti-Jewish skits as any of the late-nite shows put together.
And maybe it is age-related, but Jimmy Fallon is no Jay Leno, either.
Funny how little good TV there is now, and the new season looks even worse.

Yes. If the gov't was the ONLY market for which ALL gold mines could sell gold there is NO "free market". The gov't sets the price. The only variable os how much gold my mine can deliver as opposed to how much your mine can
SO ,,, I have to work HARDER to get rewarded. Doesn't matter how good I am. The PRICE we get is controlled by ONE buyer
Same with health care, as I tried to explain to you. ALL doctors would get $1500 per patient regardless of how "good" that Dr. was. The only way the Dr. makes nore is to see MORE patients, thus working HARDER
NO reward for proficiency

Dude ,you are obsessed with Sarah Palin & you're viciousness is out of control. Do you have hots for her?
I'd say the same thing to anyone who'd insult Obama in such a manner, if only such a mean-spirited person existed. Obama's critics are just so mild and even-handed.

Is there more than one gold market now? I thought it was like THE gold market.
I used to belong to a teacher's union, before I went Catholic school. It was a very busy few years.
It was the year before last, though, when I NEEDED a union, and we didn't have one. 'Cause we were idealistic moonbats at that school, and we didn't need no steenkeen union.
Had a rather severe problem with their copy protection on Mass Effect. Basically, I couldn't run it after install, despite owning a legit copy of the game.
Ah yes, thanks for the response. DMR methods for pc games have been quite overbearing and unnecessarily inconvenient for legit consumers lately, almost to the point of punishing those who legally purchase the games.
Ever since Starforce's (and Sony's) "rootkit" disasters of DRM, I have been very diligent when it comes to researching the type of DRM used in any game I might be interested in. There are a lot of games that I would have liked to buy, but refused because of intrusive/customer punishing DRM.
Not related to DRM, but not too long ago EA was attempting to acquire TakeTwo. I was quite happy to learn that they did not succeed.
Here's Ubisoft's corporate contact page, with ordinary mail address. I've already fired off a short letter pointing out that McCarthy has no medical credentials and has been widely criticized for promoting abstention from medical options that the vast majority of physicians feel are critically important to good health. I finish by suggesting that they contact a practicing physician if they want someone to provide them with sound health advice.
I did that while staying away from words like "moron," "retard," "bitch," "idiot" and "brainless boytoy," which made things a lot harder but is probably more effective if the goal is to be taken seriously.
That's not entirely fair. There are many hard-working teachers who spend countless off-school hours preparing for class.
A more apt response might be one comparing inefficient or lazy teachers who are almost impossible to fire.
I'll tell you the truth--I read the horror stories like everyone else, but my experience, personally, has been that public school teachers are good folks who work their asses off and care about kids learning, and that school administrations take shameless advantage of this. My experience with the union was purely positive. I don't know if my experience is typical.
NY Grampa has removed the Fresca™ from my hand, helped clean the monitor, and hidden all my packs of Fresca™ and will only let me have it when I am not posting, the meanie.

The problem with the teachers union is NOT the teachers themselves. Like the UAW, it's the union itself

I can concede that readily, however those that do the work are heroes in my book since there is no external incentive to perform. I put two kids through HS. I know there is a not insignificant percentage of teachers that show movies or simply do nothing, nothing at all. This has to change but probably never will. I see the teachers union in the same light I see other child abusers (those that abuse through indifference)
That's the problem, isn't it? She's funny, until you think where this kind of thing can so easily end up.
Jenny pisses me off...Can you imagine no children getting vaccinations? In 10 years it would be the end of America..Imagine 25 million children with small pox...Fuck you Jennie...We all take a small risk to save all our Children. Fuck you selfish bitch.. Sorry Charles...
/Fuck you Jenny...you don't know shit about Autism
YOU set up the scenario of a GOV'T entity being the only one where "we" could sell our gold!
Now you're looking into "how many" gold markets there are
Wow ,,, juts ,, wow !
You COULD compliment be for being willing to ask questions about subjects for which I clearly state I am ignorant. I'm working off your example yesterday where you set up a mine and employed better gold miners to mine faster etc etc.
At the end of the day you still have to sell your gold, just like the other mines. You have more of it cause you set up your corporation or whatever. You worked smarter. You still have to sell it and you sell it for the same price that the guy next door with less gold sells it.
So, I don't understand, and I'm trying to learn about why it threatens the whole system if government pays for the gold at the end of the day vs THE GOLD MARKET(s) paying for the gold at the end of the day.
Is it because the government can't or won't adjust the price fast enough? Doesn't the government already do this with like, all the money that banks borrow to lend out? I can see how slowly interest rates change as opposed to the price of gold or a stock price. Is that the big problem?
I know you don't have to explain all this to me and I am reading other things. Personally I learn more when I can ask questions so I ask them. It's all good if it's too exasperating. I'm a programmer not a business major, that's how it goes.

To add to that, if the government set the price too low, many would just stop mining gold. That would lead to a gold shortage, and if gold is a critical component to a given product, that product will be in short supply as well. It would also lead to a criminal black market for gold and gold products.
If the government set the price too high, they would mine gold like crazy, but then we would end up with a lot more gold than what is needed and would have paid a lot more than necessary.
So, price controls lead either to shortages or excessive inventories (but usually shortages because the government will be controlling prices downward). Price controls just don't work.
(The Kid has sent all my regular contacts into the spam folder so as to stop my getting any mail from his teacher. I'm being slow getting people back to my regular mail.)

I think the reputation of public school teachers is tarnished by the situation some of those teachers work in. In some of the public schools in Baltimore, the teachers are no doubt little more than babysitters - through no fault of their own. These kids are out of their control and their parent(s) have no interest in education.
I would strongly suggest taking a night or online economics course. Concentrate on one that will delve into supply and demand, gov't price controls as well as setting up a virtual business to run with a business plan, a product to make and sell and employees
I remember people telling me "If you're so smart, why aren't you rich?"
The fact is that intelligence and wealth have absolutely nothing in common and it's probably the most pernicious and destructive belief in American society today. We have no-nothing celebrities pontification on subjects they know nothing about and the "American Idol" Americans lap this stuff up.
"Celebrities" are the bane of my existence. They can sing, dance, act, or do whatever made the "celebrities", but PLEASE let them leave the thinking to the thinkers.

A good work ethic, a willingness to take risk and put aside temporary wants have created more wealth in this country than sheer intelligence.
I'm more inclined to blame the stupidity of parents who look to her as an authority in medicine.
Sorry, if you're reading "People Magazine" for medical advice, you pretty much get what you deserve. I feel sorry for the children of these stupid bastards who couldn't find their ass with a schematic.
...

The problem is the government has know idea what the price of gold should be so there is both enough mined and yet it is still cost effective for those who need it in their products. Only people needing gold know if a given price works for their needs, and only a gold miner knows if they can effectively produce the gold for a given price while recouping their total costs, investments and necessary margin to cover the capital invested in the business.
That is how market supply and demand signals help set market prices. Throw in currency issues, speculations on future supplies, and anticipations of many other future influencers and you have today's market price for gold that lets miners know if they should produce additional or less gold from any particular mine based on its cost of operations.
And when you (the teacher) say that, you're told you're an incompetent racist.
Have you ever seen that episode of The Wire where the old teacher tells the new teacher to keep the thermostat up and the windows closed in order to make the kids tired so they won't go ballistic? I'd have thought such a statement was hyperbole if I didn't have occasion to be in one of these schools a few times. Unbelievable. I can't imagine a third-world school being any worse.
People often confuse intelligence with other good qualities that humans posses, and vice versa.
I recall commenting to a friend of mine about the insane intelligence possessed by a man serving hard time in prison. In the short time that he had been there (less than a year into his sentence) he had mastered four new languages, bringing his total fluency of languages to eleven.
A little goober of a woman piped in and said "If he's so smart, why is he in prison"? I replied "Because he is a psychopathic murder, which has nothing at all to do with his gigantic IQ".
I'm more inclined to blame the stupidity of parents who look to her as an authority in medicine.
Oprah has her out there promoting her as an expert in autism... I mean crap...Who is really to blame here?
When I went to Napa JUCO I spent 2 years working at Napa State mental institution for credits...I mostly worked the S and T wards for credit for 2 years..There a very few things I would ever say I know what I speak of here..Cause there are lots of smart people here..You spend 2 years feeding and caring for DD or DR's souls...You know a little..And trust me Jenny is so wrong about Autism...

Exactly, Robert Stroud ("The Birdman of Alcatraz") immediately comes to mind. The man was a friggin' genius, but at the same time, a sociopathic killer.

Those of us with autistic kids are smarter than you might think. Its just that a certain amount of desperation comes along with it. I have personally read study after study, (about what could help, as finding the cause is something I always felt was too late for Aaron.) Often times, when Jenny opens her mouth, it is the people without autistic kids who are giving her a forum. In my little group in one of 25 Lovaas based programs around the country, nobody realizes who Jenny McCarthy is, unless they have a habit of watching porno. But like everything else in America, celebrity buys credibility, no matter how much it is undeserved.

OK, Cato, we get it...you don't like Sarah Palin. If all you have left to say about her (or anyone else) is crass, hateful, snide little rundowns, then you might do well to just shut your frakking piehole and sit on your hate for a while, instead of dragging it all out for all to read.
/better to be thought a fool, than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt...
Well well well. Guess who else is an antivaccine moron? Just learned it's none other than the world's ugliest man and noted misogynist Bill Maher. So, along with Americans and women, we can add, 'modern medicine' to his very long hate list.
Well, you know I've been here many times, and only certain hours of the day when I'm here am I asleep; the rest of the time I'm actually awake. -- I have a filler on a dat with zappa being interrogated by a couple of swedish fans/state officers(who knows)...in which they are arguing over the pornographic contents of his work. he tells them he has been spying on them, and claims that their porno industry is bigger than that of the US. it's pretty funny. btw-this is from thew '88 tour.
