Hamas: Teaching About the Holocaust is a ‘War Crime’

Middle East • Views: 2,711

The United Nations, for the first time, is planning to introduce lessons about the Nazi Holocaust to Palestinian students in Gaza. In the twisted world of Hamas, however, this amounts to a war crime.

Hamas spiritual leader Younis al-Astal lashed out after hearing that the U.N. Relief and Works Agency, the main U.N. body aiding Palestinian refugees, planned to introduce lessons about the Holocaust to Gaza students. Adding the Holocaust to the curriculum would amount to “marketing a lie and spreading it,” al-Astal wrote in a statement.

“I do not exaggerate when I say this issue is a war crime, because of how it serves the Zionist colonizers and deals with their hypocrisy and lies,” he wrote.

It would be nice if the term "war crime" could continue to mean something concrete, like killing innocent women and children because you don't like their ethnicity, destroying villages to test out a poison gas, and so forth.

Words should, you know, mean something.

I'd love to see this fucktard's definition of what is exaggeration.

The suffering and death of millions of Jews, Poles, and others that were deemed unworthy is a fact. Their suffering occurred. Their deaths occurred.

Words, so easily spoken and slung around, should not be allowed to erase their very existence.

8 Fart Knocker  Tue, Sep 1, 2009 3:33:08pm

War Crime is becoming as generic as Nazi. They are both losing their meanings.

Oh yeah, Hamas is still extra-strength crazy.

“I do not exaggerate when I say this issue is a war crime, because of how it serves the Zionist colonizers and deals with their hypocrisy and lies,” he wrote.

That statement deserves a logical, eloquently written rebuttal, but it would be lost on Hamas, so they'll have to make do with a simple FUCK OFF YOU FUCKING BARBARIANS.

On September 8, the Department of Education plans to run streaming video of President Barack Obama into the nation's public school classrooms. Teachers and students are carving time out their learning schedule to hear the President speak. The the exact subject of his speech is unclear at this point, but it's likely to revolve around his signed resolution marking September 11th as a "National Day of Service."

The Department of Ed's Teaching Ambassador Fellows group has put out a pre-K-6th grade "Menu of Classroom Activities" for teachers across the country to follow before, during and after the President's statement:

--Before the speech, build students' background knowledge of President Barack Obama by reading books about him and other U.S. Presidents. Ask students, "Why do you think he wants to speak to you?"

Kinda related, I thunk.

I'm nitpicking, but "Hamas spiritual leader" sounds like an oxymoron to my ear. Capital-R "Religion" or "theological" leader would sound okay. IMHO, "spiritual" refers to eternal truths, to the Deity, whereas capital-R Religion and theology are constructed by Man, and al-Astal is gleefully enjoying things of his own construction.

By PETER HITCHENS

What was it we went to war for again, exactly?

If we had stayed out, think what might - and might not - have happened. Would France have risked war with Hitler if we had sat on our hands? In that case would there ever have been a war in Western Europe at all?

Might Poland have handed over Danzig and its corridor? Would Germany then have been interested in a pact with Stalin? Or would Stalin - whose aggression against Finland is now forgotten - have started a war with Germany years earlier, perhaps beginning by invading Finland and then by seizing the Baltic republics?
...
magine: no European Union, probably no Nato, no United Nations, no courts of Human Rights, no Starbucks, no McDonald's, no kilograms, no mass migration, no terrorism. Who knows? Certainly no 'Special Relationship' (With the US -ed). One great change of direction can have so many effects, a fair number of them completely unpredictable.
...
The great cult of Churchill-worship, with which I and millions of others grew up, has been most gravely damaged by the tawdry attempts of George W. Bush and Anthony Blair to dress their wars in Churchillian clothing. Of course, they look ridiculous, like children who have raided a dressing-up box.

But they have also made me - and I suspect millions more - wonder if the 'Good War' was really as good as we have long believed.

Has Christopher replied to his brother yet. I'd like to see it.

Oh, and let's crank up the parallel universe and test this theory out.

And then no war with Japan either, since the three European powers in Asia - Britain, France and the Netherlands - would all have been in a position to defend themselves - as they were not in 1941, being either conquered or busy elsewhere. Japan might have concentrated on fighting Russia - taking advantage of Stalin's war with Hitler - and maintained its forces in China, possibly preventing the rise to power of Mao and the communists.

And if Peter's older brother had strangled him in the crib, we would have been spared this drivel.

Sure we would have had science. It would just have taken longer as everyone stopped to convert ounces to pounds to pints to quarts to gallons, or inches (which is conveniently divided into 16ths for ease of use) to feet to miles (only 5,280 feet. Nice round number.)

re: #94 HelloDare

This apart was also interesting...

What about the Holocaust? There seems to be a common belief that we went to war to save the Jews of Europe. This is not true. We went to war to save Poland, and then didn't do so. After Dunkirk, we lost control of the war, ceding it first to the USSR and then to America, and had little say in its eventual aims.

When, in 1942, the Germans began their 'Final Solution', reliable reports of the outrage were disbelieved or sat on. Later, when the information was beyond doubt, we turned down the opportunity to bomb the railway lines that led to Auschwitz. It is certainly hard to argue that the fate of Europe's Jews would or could have been any worse than it was if we had stayed out of the war.

Wow.

Article by Yossi Klein-Halevi at 'The New Republic'

... Aftonbladet’s editor, Jan Helin, wrote that he was not a Nazi or an anti-Semite. The first claim is no doubt true, the second debatable. Contrary to widespread assumptions among Europeans, one does not need to be a Nazi to be an anti-Semite. Contemporary European anti-Semitism has two spiritual roots: Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union. The big lie of Zionism as Nazism and of the Jewish state as successor to Nazi Germany originated in Moscow, and became an essential part of Soviet ideology following the 1967 Six-Day War. Of the two versions of modern European anti-Semitism as they exist today, the far more pervasive--and dangerous--is the Soviet version. The rise of Western European anti-Zionism, then, is a posthumous victory for the Soviet Union. ...

What "more problems" would result?
Disbanding (or just having the major Western countries withdraw from) the UN would be a boon for peace and prosperity across the globe. Any useful function that they perform would be taken up by responsible nations and the Red Cross, etc.
As of now, the UN serves to fund and justify the actions of madmen and murderers from Gaza to Rwanda.
The only thing that would be lost without the UN is a bully pulpit for tinpot torturers like Mahmoud to spout their insanity.

134 Vicious Michigan Union Thug  Tue, Sep 1, 2009 4:29:41pm

Jews defending themselves and their land has become the new "Holocaust." Of course we know that during the original Holocaust of 1939-1945, the Jews were regularly launching rockets into German towns and cities; that Jews were blowing themselves up in downtown Berlin and Munich on trolley cars, in beer halls, and kindergartens. And the Germans even removed 10,000 of their own citizens from their villages around Warsaw so that the Jews could have their gardens!

We are referring to the Holocaust that happened in an imaginary universe, on a fantasy planet.

Hamas craves the media attention and public sympathy they receive from portraying themselves as "Holocaust" victims, and their abominably ignorant cheerleaders are happy to applaud them in that role in order to have an excuse to hate the Jews.

The word Nazi has become a joke: Soup Nazi. It's entered the vernacular: Surf Nazis. I was called a Nazi once because I told a guy he was making inappropriate comments to a young girl. How many under twenty, thirty even know what a Nazi is -- besides somebody Tom Cruise played in a movie?

The word "nazi" has become to trivialized and cheapened that the actual horror of what the nazis did is negated. This is just as bad as Holocaust denial. It is Holocaust negation. If everybody is "just like a nazi" then the nazis couldn't have been so bad.

I find this enraging.

141 Eretz  Tue, Sep 1, 2009 5:13:10pm

I have doubts that this story is true--that UNRWA schools are going to start teaching about the Holocaust. Why? Simple. They would also be doing it in the West Bank and we've heard nothing about that. Also since UNRWA knows that it would stir up anger and wants to do everything possible to appease Hamas. I believe Hamas either deliberately made this up as an excuse to take over the schools even more tightly or it is one of the "urban legends" and conspiracy theories that constantly shape the thinking of those societies.

The fact that Hamas is complicit in the death of kids notwithstanding, some pro-lifers parade dead kids for photo-ops, as well. Well, they parade dead fetus pictures, but pro-lifers don't make a distinction between the two, so, for the purposes of this discussion, I'm not sure we should, either.
