Yay! I figured out how to work the 'record' function on my portable XM radio...it was the little button marked 'Record' oddly enough

It's clearly better than the original 'Glasgow Kiss', which is a head-butt.

I've got an older XM... you have to push the MyXM button twice. And the blomin' record at a certain time feature doesn't work, it'll record for 2 minutes, IF you're lucky.

I'm not lucky.

I much prefer Petrucci's solo albums -- there's some good stuff on the Dream Theater albums, but I just can't get past the ultra-mannered rock singer. When the singer starts yowling and exaggerating his vowels, I have to switch to some ambient music.

Young lady lives about 20 miles away, reads my blog because her child has a heart defect. Her husband is running for Mayor (small town, 5000 people max.)

It probably won't come up at this level of government, but I bet he could say a few things about health care reform!

18 Fenway_Nation  Fri, Sep 4, 2009 5:37:48pm

Also, both the Roadie and XMP3 can let me program up to 30 stock symbols and out-of-town MLB, NBA, NHL, NFL or NCAAF football or hoops scores...

Techincally I'm invested in roughly two stocks at the moment, so making room for all the entities I'm invested in isn't much of a concern at the moment.

A guy walks into a bar with a dachshund under his arm. The dog is wearing a Lions jersey helmet and is holding Lions pom poms.

The bartender says,"Hey! No pets allowed in here! You'll have to leave!"

The man begs, "Look I'm desperate. We're both big fans, my TV is broken, and this is the only place we can see the game!"

After securing a promise that the dog will behave and warning him that if there is any trouble they will be thrown out, the bartender relents and allows them to stay in the bar and watch the game.

The game begins with the Lions receiving the kickoff. They march down the field, get stopped at the 30,and kick a field goal. With that the dog jumps up on the bar and begins walking up and down the bar giving everyone a high-five.

The bartender says,"Wow that is the most amazing thing I've ever seen! What does the dog do if they score a touchdown?"

"I don't know," replies the owner, "I've only had him for four years."

That video could be the LGF theme song.

You've probably heard their cover of the old 50s song, "The Sun Is Mass of Incandescent Gas." They've recorded an updated version which corrects the scientific inaccuracies of the original: "The Sun Is a Miasma of Incandescent Plasma".

There will be a post about Spencer's new pals tomorrow. He's going to freak out, of course. Maybe he'll threaten to sue me again.

But how many times will he use the word 'mendacious'? That's the big question. I'm betting - three.

Calcajun - I agree. Downdinging on the basis of musical taste is the height of shite, as they say around these parts. Although Scottish for a couple of generations, my family on both sides actually has Irish roots. No clan tartan for me!

My mom claims she was Irish, but it appears that the family became Irish thanks in part to Oliver Cromwell. We found ancestors with Presbyterian pulpits in Aberdeen--how they became Catholic and in New Orleans is still a mystery.

No thread with scottish music would be complete without Belle and Sebastian...

This album has always been one of my favourites for happy mornings, waking up with tea...slowly waking up!

re: #206 iceweasel

Just starting to get into Belle and Sebastian, iceweasel - thanks. I can definitely see the optimistic morning vibe there :)

Nice music.

For a more culturally robust excursion check out what Alan Stivell was doing in the 1970s with the electrified Celtic Pop Renaissance movement. The album Live in Dublin 1975 is worth searching for. It is scorching. Here is an example of Stivell and Dan ar Bras and some of the same people, now white haired, live from Bretagnes à Bercy, Celtic Music from Breizh

Petrucci and Steve Vai are one of the few guitarists who TRULY understand ow to play a 7-string guitar.

I met Petrucci once at a record signing about 12 years ago. Talked to him and the rest of the band (who were all very down-to-earth and cool).

I asked Petrucci (pulling his leg a bit) how many hours per day he played guitar growing up. He kind of laughed and said "a lot".
