Obama Indoctrinates Kids to Hate Facebook

Politics • Views: 3,596

The Obama Indoctrination story just keeps getting worse.

Now the news is coming out that Obama held a secret meeting (known only to most of the nation’s media) with students after his speech this morning, and made yet another underhanded attempt to warp their minds and stifle their free speech.

STUDENT: Hi, Mr. President, my name is Jessie. When I grow up, I would like to have your job.

THE PRESIDENT: Okay.

STUDENT: Is there any advice you can give me, or career paths that I — things I need to know?

THE PRESIDENT: Well, let me give you some very practical tips. (Laughter.) First of all, I want everybody here to be careful about what you post on Facebook — (laughter) — because in the YouTube age, whatever you do, it will be pulled up again later somewhere in your life. And when you’re young, you make mistakes and you do some stupid stuff. And I’ve been hearing a lot about young people who — you know, they’re posting stuff on Facebook, and then suddenly they go apply for a job and somebody has done a search and — so that’s some practical political advice for you right there. (Laughter.) That’s number one.

That sounds exactly like something Joseph Stalin might have said, if they had Facebook in the Soviet Union. And then he would have shipped the little tyke off to a gulag.

Why does Obama hate Facebook? And how dare he try to deprive helpless, innocent children of their First Amendment rights?

(Unfortunately, with so much paranoid craziness going on around this issue, I need to point out that this post is satirical, and thereby ruin the humor. Oh well.)

Finally, something Obama and I agree on. Facebook is destroying us all.

2 lawhawk  Tue, Sep 8, 2009 1:32:42pm

Why does Obama hate Facebook?

It’s envy. After all, Facebook doesn’t drop off the planet when millions access the site daily, while the CARS rebate site crashed repeatedly when dealers tried to give rebates. /

3 Randall Gross  Tue, Sep 8, 2009 1:33:07pm

He hates them because he wants everyone signed up at mybarackobama instead… it’s a plot…

Laughing…so there’s no right and wrong anymore…only if you get caught on Facebook and Youtube?

No mention of Myspace.

I’m always amazed at what people post on Facebook. Hell, call me old-fashioned, I’m amazed at what people post on other people’s blogs.

5 Mostly sane, most of the time.  Tue, Sep 8, 2009 1:33:42pm

I don’t know about destroying, but I have certainly lectured my children—repeatedly—about the fact that online is public.

Well that’s good advice, I said the same to my kids.

This is one of the reasons I don’t do facebook. I feel no need to put my private life somewhere where anyone can access it. No thanks.

I’ve advised my children to use Facebook like a PR firm not a diary. I also get to be in their friends list if I promise to behave myself.

I wonder if that picture my daughter posted of me with a cheeze Puff up my nose will influence future hiring decisions?

36 _RememberTonyC  Tue, Sep 8, 2009 1:42:51pm

Facebook is annoying beyond belief. It’s the internet’s version of “crack.” You start out liking it because it gives you a good buzz (meeting up with old friends and acquaintences), but eventually you “overdose” on all these people you haven’t been in touch with for decades. Did you ever wonder why you lost track of all those people? Probably because you “got a life” and developed new friendships and relationships. And while I have never joined Facebook, I see how my wife spends time answering lots of email. I prefer to be a man of mystery anyway!

He inspired César Chávez, and he — and what was interesting was that he ended up doing so much and changing the world just by the power of his ethics, by his ability to change how people saw each other and saw themselves — and help people who thought they had no power realize that they had power, and then help people who had a lot of power realize that if all they’re doing is oppressing people, then that’s not a really good exercise of power.

That sounds eerily familiar to Thomas Friedman was saying on Meet The Press about Van Jones on Sunday. Talking points??? Looking for more now.

That being said. Facebook is dangerous. So is MySpace. These kids put things that should never been heard or seen up and just don’t think about the consequences. Never post your name, your address, personal information…once you do, it’s on there forever for all to see. I have my younger one on a tight leash as far as the internet is concerned. Funny this should come out today, as earlier today my wife nixed a potential replacement for our ongoing dog/house-sitting position due to the girl’s crazy drunken antics, as featured on Facebook. Oddly enough, the girl who recommended her to us, who was a friend of the family, thought nothing of her friend’s Facebook issues. Both of them are going to school to become teachers. Might want to clean up that internet image, girlfriend, before you start sending out resumes to the better school systems.

I know that van “no cash for this clunker” jones is yesterday’s news in many ways, but Victor Davis Hanson has a very good take on what his recruitment by the Obama team really tells us.

He doesn’t overstate the 911 truther stuff, although he does mention it in passing. But he does demonstrate how jones’ philosophy (if not jones himself) permeates the culture of the Obama team.

Fever Swamp update:

Signs of sanity at Free Republic?

On this string, birthers are wondering if Obama inadvertantly revealed his non-American origin during the school speech when he said “My mother couldn’t afford to send me to the school where all the AMERICAN kids went.”

There is the usual drooling applause at this new revelation, but other Freepers are having none of it:

Oh this is truly one of the most idiotic things I have ever read.

How stupid can you be?

They couldn’t afford to go where the American kids went, so he, an American, had to be educated at home. Duh!

I wish there was something to the birther stuff, but there isn’t. He is NOT slipping up here, just saying he couldn’t go where the other American kids did.

Moron.

The brief discussion of how the US system has been affected by the use of ERs as primary care facilities (due to the guarantee of emergency treatment) was pretty good.

I am seeing a lot of the “doc in a box”/PA clinics open up around here. I think a creative plan to cut insurance costs so that more people would be “fully insured” (insert current definition here) would include these lower-cost, more-accessible clinics for non-emergency care.

Fortunately, no one I’ve linked with has done anything like that.
But I did work for a company (before Linkedin) where the system administrator was fired immediately for having regular porn on the systems.
Given our only customer was the government (we did software for image processing used by military intelligence and other image analysts) we had to get rid of him. Besides, he really didn’t do his job well, always in his office with the door closed, and inaccessible.

it is truly amazing that someone would visit a porn site on a company computer and not think that could cause them a future problem. When I first started using the internet, I did hit a few porn sites by accident due to cluelessness, but as soon as I realized it was a porn site, I ran from it within seconds.

re: #170 OldLineTexan

The brief discussion of how the US system has been affected by the use of ERs as primary care facilities (due to the guarantee of emergency treatment) was pretty good.

I am seeing a lot of the “doc in a box”/PA clinics open up around here. I think a creative plan to cut insurance costs so that more people would be “fully insured” (insert current definition here) would include these lower-cost, more-accessible clinics for non-emergency care.

Those are getting fought by doctors and hospitals, here in Mass.
I think they’re a great idea, too, but I might have a different idea if I saw them siphoning off the patients I needed to make up for those who actually took a lot of attention, so I could meet the average 15 minutes per patient the HMOs allow.

We seem to have already developed a really piss-poor form of it in ERs. I would think it compares to the “sick care” mentioned in the article.

These little clinics charge pretty close to my “co-pay” for a doctor or PA visit.

Then we get into major/long-term illness, and a lot of the comparisons fall apart due to rationing and waits.

OT, but did you hear the story about the artist that was commissioned to paint a mural at a museum about Custer?
When it was unveiled, the curator was shocked. It had a fish with a halo, and around it, in the woods were hundreds of Indians copulating.
“What is this? I asked you to paint a mural of what Custer was thinking at Little Big Horn!”
The artist replied, “I did. His thought must have been ‘Holy mackerel, look at all the fucking Indians!’”

re: #235 Walter L. Newton

Considering all the problems with stalkers and other such people who have tried to take advantage of children through the medium of Facebook, isn’t it possible that Obama was warning about those kind of problems?

I was kind of wondering the same thing. I remember my mother telling me when I was young not to give out my name, address, phone number, etc. to strangers. I explicitly remember her telling me that if someone called and asked me who I was or what number they reached I was to always respond “who did you want to speak to” and “what number were you dialing”.

I’m not sure that this is much different. However, to hear some people talk, it’s almost like Obama handed out condoms and told everyone to go have sex.

I’m not getting it. There are so many other things to be genuinely concerned about.

Maybe you should read the speech first before spouting off, then. Ya think?

Yes, BUT…

We once went to a presentation at our progressive school on “Doing the Right Thing” - which was given by the predictable kind of Education Guy. Sad thing was, although he didn’t say it in so many words, the message was very clearly: “Don’t get caught!” Nothing about moral choices, or what people once meant by “Do the right thing” but a lot about negative consequences.

So, not so much “do the right thing, make the right choices” as “make sure that you are very careful about what is public.”

Perhaps that is what upsets some people about the message here.

275 Charles Johnson  Tue, Sep 8, 2009 2:35:32pm

But wait! The horror gets even more horrible!

Here’s the rest of what he sneakily told this student:

Number two, look, obviously, doing well in school is hugely important, especially if you don’t come from some political family where they’ve got you all hooked up. If you’re going to succeed it’s because people are going to think that — they have confidence that you can do the job. So really excelling in education is important.

Number three, find something that you’re passionate about and do that well. There are a lot of people who decide to go into politics just because they want to be important or they like the idea of having their name up in lights or what have you. The truth is, is that I think the people who are the best elected officials are the people who they found something they’re good at; they get really — whether it’s they’re a really good lawyer, they’re a really good teacher, they’re a good business person — they’ve built a career and learned something about how to organize people and how to motivate people. And then they go into politics because they think that they can take those skills to do some more good — as opposed to just wanting to get elected just for the sake of getting elected.

The MONSTER!

276 mich-again  Tue, Sep 8, 2009 2:35:34pm
I know are people who, they were passionate about some idea about a product or a service, and they really got into that. And then the money was a byproduct — the money came because you really did something good, as opposed to you just thinking about how do I make money.

I have mixed emotions about that part of his advice. True, you should seek out an occupation that you have passion for. But money is not always a by-product of a life passion, even if you become really good at what you do.

But if you are a parent looking at forking over $20K a year for college the last advice you want the kid to hear is to forget about how their college degree is going to help them someday make money, just find something you are passionate about and the money will somehow follow. Probably no different than any other unsavory character in elected office.

As far as Van Jones goes, he should have never been considered for any type of administration position in the first place. I can agree as to the general sentiment about how this came to be, (I do hold reservations when someone is making the same moral equivalence argument about “bombing” other countries, thus 911 was our “bombing” in return) Shades of Reverend Wright.

No different when you have the likes of a Dennis Kucinich taking money in his efforts to run, or any other partisan hack, left or right, who thinks they have a right to do so.

I hold no sympathy for Van Jones having to resign. If you can make the moral equivalence argument about 911, you have no place collecting tax payer money as a paycheck in my opinion.

Uh - bullshit. Charles unmasked Jones weeks ago (months ago?) using actual fact-based criteria. Beck lied his ass off about Jones, using fraudulent bilge published by Troofers.

Lying is not something to be proud of. The ends do not justify the means.

And Beck’s lying will bite the GOP in the ass. The media is reporting nothing but the Troofer connection. Can you guess why? Because it takes less then two minutes to debunk it as the garbage it is, and by focusing on this rather than the abundant substantive shortcomings of Jones’ background, the media get to prime the pump for the next round of criticisms that the GOP tosses up - and whether they’re legitimate or not, they’ll be met with scorn and derision, with reference to the Jones episode making the case for them.

Even more fun is developing as we speak. It is becoming blazingly obvious that Beck is being handed this tripe by luminaries such as the John Birch Society. Nothing like associating yourself, and the GOP by extension, with a bunch of insane racists.

Beck is the gift that keeps on giving - if you’re a Democrat.

It was the Rahmbo boot also despite what axelrod says

No, not really. Perhaps because Sunstein has blogged over at Volokh’s?

Sharmuta,

I have come to the conclusion that there is virtually no one with whom I am in agreement with on all issues. I think the closest is Rudy Guiliani, but I couldn’t stand what he did to hot dog vendors when he was mayor.

I have resigned myself to take things issue by issue. I agreed with Obama, for example, with shooting the pirates in the head.

AGAIN- people freaked out over Obama telling their kids to stay in school and do their homework. Could you imagine if he’d tried teaching them morals and ethics what these hyper-ventilators would do? Give me a break.

I agree - that’s idiotic of them.

Topic was the facebook advice; I don’t think “conservatives” of even the “Christian nut” persuasion would have objected had he said something like “Be careful what you put on Facebook, and maybe even think twice about actually doing something that you might prefer not to see on Facebook”

Obama needs better vetters- that’s for sure.

I’m really bothered, however, by elected members of the government giving any time to truthers. Is it up to the people in Texas to do something about it- certainly. It’s up to the press and bloggers to expose him.

Why aren’t they?

I would hope his time in Congress was limited. I only hope the people of Texas will do better next time. Truth is though that most voters don’t follow politics close enough to actually make informed decisions.

True, for any given occupation its highly likely the passionate person will end up making more money than the slackass employee. But if you are a parent looking at forking over $20K a year for college the last advice you want the kid to hear is to forget about how their college degree is going to help them someday make money, just find something you are passionate about and the money will somehow follow. Easy to say when its not your dime I guess.

Actually, that’s exactly the advice I’ve given both of my kids, one just starting college and the other in the pipeline a couple years behind. Now, I’ve also covered pay rates as something they need to think about as well. But I want them to do what they’re happy doing, something they can’t wait to get out of bed and start working on every day. It’s much more important than your paycheck. I can’t imagine dragging my sorry ass to work every day to do a job that I loathe, just because the compensation is acceptable - been there, done that, will never ever do it again unless forced.

Totally agree, I don’t think he meant anything by it.

But I do think it’s revealing about the way he thinks.

Education Guy referred to above was also talking (this was the 90s) about how maybe divorce wasn’t so great for the kids (even though it was his kind that said it wouldn’t be so bad) and maybe even the kids deserved to have a parent who actually stayed home and looked after them (as opposed to the Politically Correct advice of the time to go for that career).

The sight of that must be gorgeous. Watching nature in all its bounty is so rewarding.
There is very few maple here, regrettably.

As I said a very poor substitute for maples.

Well, what a clever way to get AGW into the discussion. But I do actually have a real question, which I suspect you have an answer for.

And, I know, you may have covered this before, I know, you may have had link after link to the answer, I know, I don’t read anything you post or link to.

Now that I have that out of the way.

Among all the peer-reviewed scientist who know that the planet is warming, and it is caused by humans, among these scientist in question, do they all come to the same conslusions about the outcome of this warming?

No - one knows the precise outcome. There is a range that goes from crashing our civilization in 150-200 years to crashing it sooner, depending on how bad it gets and how little we do.

Understand that the carbon we put up there lasts for centuries. If we stopped all emissions tomorrow, we would still be committed to warming for some time to come, from the effects of the feedbacks.

Thanos put up a spin-off from Phil Plait, on this issue of the President speaking to school children today. Phil says:

Yet because “news” media like Fox have aired so much invective from the wildly fringe reality-polluting community, even mainstream folks are arguing that Obama’s speech is evil. I saw a news report yesterday about an elementary school in North Carolina where they didn’t air the speech because so many parents complained.

I’m tired of ignorance held up as inspiration, where vicious anti-intellectualism is considered a positive trait, and where uninformed opinion is displayed as fact.

And the first comment on Phil’s entry? Try this:

It should be a woman’s choice to work or stay home, but the fact the tax burden is as high as it is- most women aren’t going to take “PC” advice just to be “PC”- they are going to do what they think is in the best interests for their families.

I wonder why Obama didn’t take maybe one moment to point out that the student would most likely be better cared for in the American health care system even without insurance coverage than he would be in Afghanistan with full coverage.

Cuz you don’t want to suggest what we have is effective if you plan on “fixing” it.

Links to common sense? Nope.
You have to come up with your own reasoned judgments. Eventually people will have to acknowledge that it’s not an accident that Obama always seems to surround himself with thieves, frauds and extremists.
When you do something over and over, can it really be called a mistake?

Obama becomes the first American president to chair the U.N. Security Council.

Barack Obama will cement the new co-operative relationship between the US and the United Nations this month when he becomes the first American president to chair its 15-member Security Council.

The topic for the summit-level session of the council on September 24 is nuclear non-proliferation and nuclear disarmament – one of several global challenges that the US now wants to see addressed at a multinational level.

“The council has a very important role to play in preventing the spread and use of nuclear weapons, and it’s the world’s principal body for dealing with global security cooperation,” Susan Rice, US envoy to the UN, said last week.

Fair enough, civilization as we know it today, with available food, water, electricity and places to live - and all of the governmental systems that supports will end.

As food and water become scare and people get displaced, I do not doubt that armies will be used to keep people in line and drastic measures get taken for the public good.

The simple fact is that the population is growing and the most important effect of AGW is much less food - coupled with displacing millions (and all that entails economically).

So yes there will still be some sort of government, just not anyone I would call civilized.

re: #402 Bagua

Exactly! Furthermore a trend does not equal a destiny, especially 150-200 years out.

You need to look at the projections and more carefully read what was written.

The nice end of things is drasticaly coastline and food production for America by 2100 and a complete collapse - which would follow with a more than 1 meter sea level rise by 2150-2200.

That is the nicest prediction.

The nasty case is that there is a lot more Methane and CO2 under the Siberian and Canadian bogs released very more rapidly than IPCC accounted for (and this is already true) - but it comes out really quickly, and we loose both poles, Greenland and Antarctica sufficiently that we have 3 meters by 2100.

You are deceiving yourself if you think that even the nice projections for 2100 are something that we can afford. You are in a state of total denial if you think we can afford the nasty case.

OT - by the way, HR 3200 now has a new form and is called America’s Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009. No number yet, but here is a link to the new material…

[Link: docs.house.gov…]

A BILL

To provide affordable, quality health care for all Americans
and reduce the growth in health care spending, and
for other purposes. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, —This Act may be cited as the ‘‘America’s Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009.”

Another pile of shit to tromp through. Remember, we can’t stop just because we won the first round. They are going to keep throwing new versions, revised version, combined version, house and senate version, all the way to a vote, and we have to keep right up with them…

They have a congress, a house, hundreds of aids and a presidential administration, but there are over 300 million Americans that are self-employed and we work for OURSELVES, and we will.

Down load a copy and start going through this.

You really don’t even have to look at any numbers to reach this conclusion. Free markets are remarkably efficient; there are pretty much just enough doctors to meet current demand, and no more than that. Dumping vast new supplies of demand into the market inevitably means a shortage of doctors - the pipeline to fill those newly demanded positions is several years long, too. So we’ll see not only rationing, but a large price spike to go along with as doctors and hospitals charge more for their increasingly scarce services.

It’s as inevitable as tomorrow’s sunrise.

Residency usually beats that out of them since you rarely see any moonbats in the doctor’s lounge. In fact, if Obama is speaking when I am at work I like to watch it there. re: #465 opnion

Rationing exists right now. Both public and private sectors. One main difference, folks still have the option to shop in the private sector. With a pure universal plan, that choice is off the table.

The dirty little secret in all of this however, is the ceiling which exists for politicians, and raising taxes.

Both sides know this without a doubt. There will be no way to fund this, and still have the equivalent of what we have now. Something will have to give. We have been watching this now for sometime, (those of us who accept payment from Medicare, & or Medicaid for services rendered) and what has happened is a perpetual decrease in reimbursement for contracted services provided.

They have to make up the difference somehow. One of the most insulting things I have come across as it pertains to the justification of how we can cut costs. (Obama has opined that this accounts for a very large portion of the monetary excess in our current system right now) was his description of the blue pill / red pill scenario in his address.

We have been doing this for a long time now. Look at the bottom of any prescription. It has a specific area for the provider to sign “Brand name necessary” on it. For people on this side, when someone requests that, it often means they are abusers.

This will be a disaster.

re: #389 Sharmuta

I don’t know where to start. First of all- most mothers work because they have to- that is, the tax burden is such that most families cannot afford to live on one salary. It has nothing to do with “PC” and I’m a it bothered by that as well. It should be a woman’s choice to work or stay home, but the fact the tax burden is as high as it is- most women aren’t going to take “PC” advice just to be “PC”- they are going to do what they think is in the best interests for their families.

This was a bunch where some had to work, but for most there was definitely an element of choice.

Interesting book is “The Two-Income Trap” by Elizabeth Warren and her daughter (name escapes me) - interestingly enough they came up with a lot of good suggestions like vouchers, so that you didn’t have to bankrupt yourself buying a house in a neighborhood with good schools. A lot of things you might think of naturally as conservative, but she /they are quite liberal.

It seems that somebody took her aside and told her how important the teachers’ union, etc. were to Dem politics, because she really shut up and is now I believe somewhere in the Obama administration.

But it remains, in the original form, an awesome book addressing this very issue (her work actually started as an analysis of bankruptcy in women - and her first discovery was that the telling cause of bankruptcy was HAVING A CHILD).

We have a shortage of doctors right now & that overrated mediocrity, Obama claims that there will be no rationing.
Right he wants to add 46 million into the system, but no rationing.

Doctors spend a lot of time on the phone arguing with insurance companies; if they can get out from under that, a lot more patients can be seen by the same number of doctors, and without stretching their hours.

Also, doctors who get paid for a 1/2 hour office visit can give a patient advice that will prevent the need for a 2 hour procedure.

(all that said… yes, we do need another couple of medical schools. And more GP’s, not so many specialists)

534 Dreader1962  Tue, Sep 8, 2009 4:57:43pm

The new headline is a proposed fine - I don’t know if this made it into the bill that you’re reading, Walter. The idea is to fine a family up to $3,800/year for not having insurance. What is not mentioned was what qualifies as coverage as approved by the government. The rules could be set in such a way as to require coverage that people may not want and that may be quite expensive. If experience tells us anything, you may see companies fix their coverage on what is required by the government, which may be more or less than what is needed. That plus these qualifying rules are subject to change as the government ‘tweaks’ things (meaning - responds to political considerations).

This is going to be a mess.

537 captdiggs  Tue, Sep 8, 2009 5:00:40pm

At this point all of this Obama derangement…and that cuts both ways, hypercritical as well as hyper-defensive, is becoming a distraction to what he is doing. We have a radically different foreign policy that seems to be both weak and somewhat fantasy based that may be laying the seeds of a large, perhaps nuclear, war in the middle east. We have DC printing money like never before. The largest debt in history. Debt buying nations hedging on further support of our debt. We have an incomplete and also seemingly fantasy based energy policy that dreams of wind power and the like, while eschewing what we can do now, like nuclear .
Pardon me if I think that all this peripheral nonsense about Obama…facebook…his school speech, does nothing but obscure more important aspects of this presidency.

re: #155 Coracle

Actually, in my experience they are about pulling in as much money as possible. Not much else after that. I am a member of the T.C.U. (Transportation and Communications Union). Here recently, due to a slow down at our railroad, management rearranged the schedules so they would not have to fire anyone. I got the short end of the stick and now I work two jobs on the weekend instead of my regularly assigned job. I did not complain one bit, because I am near the bottom of the totem pole, plus having worked in the private sector most of my life I am used to stepping up. I was happy and had no complaints, the other folks did though. Now remember none of them had to do extra work, they only had their off days changed for the better. They have the weekends off now. They went to the union and got our rep. involved. After fighting with the company for some time it was determined that they would either have to go back to the original schedule or pay me quite a bit more. Both would result in the layoffs of the two youngest guys in the office. I was opposed to this in every form, but that did not matter. The older members where terrified that it would set a precedent and that they would start combining more jobs. So instead of allowing me to do a job I had no complaints of doing, and keeping two men from becoming unemployed, they figured it would be better to cause a scene to protect themselves from a higher work load. Now I work both jobs, they both lost theirs, and to top it off the union backed off once they where fired and I do not get payed anymore for the work. I absolutely love paying my union dues.
