Another Idiot Brings Guns to an Obama Rally

US News • Views: 2,454

Another fool who seems to think it’s completely appropriate to show up at a presidential rally with two loaded weapons: Protester defends bringing guns to Obama rally.

If this kind of insanity keeps up, it’s only a matter of time before something bad happens.

Josh Hendrickson left his children at home Saturday and went to downtown Minneapolis, where President Obama was scheduled to speak, carrying two loaded pistols — one in a holster under his camo shirt and another in a back pocket. He spent the next seven hours standing in front of Target Center, he said, not to cause trouble, but to make a point.

“The Second Amendment isn’t suspended just because the president’s in town,” said Hendrickson, 32, who said he showed police at Obama’s health care rally his license to carry and conceal a weapon under state law. …

Hendrickson said he was questioned by Minneapolis police and a Secret Service agent after he said they spotted the outline of his weapon. Hendrickson said he carried a .40 caliber Glock 22 handgun concealed in a holster on his hip, and a smaller Kel Tec 380 in a pocket. …

“I’m a pretty laid-back guy that loves his kids and his country,” Hendrickson said. He added, however, that he had just been released from jail a month earlier on an assault charge for pepper-spraying a customer at a Cub Foods in Brooklyn Center, where he worked as a security guard.

The 2nd Amendment is important. Common sense is more important.

"If this kind of insanity keeps up, it’s only a matter of time before something bad happens."

For responsible gun owners like myself this non-sense is extremely troubling. Because when one of these jackasses decided to make use of their firearms, it will be people like me that face tougher restrictions.

I expect we'll hear the same apologia from the same quarters that he was just exercising his rights to be a violent gun toter outside a Presidential event and this is harmless.

This apologia only fuels more of the same, and folks like this guy will only get more bold until one of them snaps. Very worrisome.

Yeah, so laid back the moron did this,

Not as laid back as he would claim, IMHO.

I'm also going to go out on a limb here and say that security guards are not exactly the brightest bulbs in the bunch. Guys who get to carry weapons yet not good enough to be real police officers. Personally, I don't trust them much.

25 Diamond Bullet  Tue, Sep 15, 2009 1:05:56pm

I'm a big fan of the 2nd Amendment, but still - what is the point of this? To send moderates screaming for the hills? Obama is screwing up plenty on his own imho; why distract from the real issues by engaging in the obviously distasteful practice of bringing weapons to Presidential rallies?

And wouldn't the Secret Service, even after interviewing him, still have to assign someone to keep an eye on this guy? Obviously you can't just assume he's going to stand there peacefully. Even if you are entirely well-meaning and just making a crude political statement, you're making it that much harder for our President to be protected by a finite Secret Service staff.

In Texas, having your concealed weapon "print" in front of a cop is a great way to potentially end up 'splainin' yourself to a judge.

There are also any number of places YOU CAN'T GO ARMED, and these are easily identified if you read the rules when you took the course for your permit.

You have to be some kind of stoopid to go to a Presidential appearance ARMED after all the negative stories (other idjits and death threats) and get caught because you're doing it wrong.

EPIC FAIL, and thanks, dumbass. Eight years of propaganda under Clinton about gun owners, and you have to be the exception that will be used to beat me over the head.

Just sayin' ... maybe he was found guilty of assault. In which case, Texas would have revoked his Concealed Carry Permit RIGHT THERE.

Now he apparently still had it ... either they have some mighty weird laws up there, OR he wasn't guilty, OR he's in for MORE charges.

Good point. It doesn't say if he'd been convicted, served time, etc. Just that he'd been released from jail. Suppose it could have merely been the time he spent during the booking process. Still...that, combined with this boneheaded stunt, should make people sit up and take notice I'd think.

That goes back to my point that "released from jail" =! "served time".

You can get tossed in jail and then let out if the charges don't stick. It happened to a friend of mine who was accused of assault (didn't do it). When sheriffs are called in these parts, someone is taking a ride in the car. Took him 26 hours to get RELEASED FROM JAIL ... the DA would not file charges based on a lack of evidence.

Violent criminal brings guns to Obama rally

Hendrickson was just released from jail on a charge of assault. Although the article does not explicitly say Hendrickson was convicted, he does say that the incident "cost him is job and 60 days in jail". The clear implication is that the 60 days was a sentence, i.e., he was indeed convicted. It is a felony for anyone convicted of assault (even misdemeanor assault) to possess a firearm in Minnesota.

It might have been his sentence. Maybe charges were dropped after time served.

Seems to help, I know - flouncetown
Just listen to the music of the traffic in the city
Linger on the sidewalk where the neon signs are pretty
How can you lose?

The blogs are much brighter there
You can forget all your troubles, forget all your cares
So go flouncetown - no finer place, for sure
Flouncetown - everything's waiting for you

Don't hang around here and let your problems surround you
There are Beck TV shows - flouncetown
Maybe you know some little places to go to
Where they never close - flouncetown
Just listen to the rhythm of a gentle bossa nova
You'll be banned from here too before the night is over
Happy again

The blogs are much brighter there
You can forget all your troubles, forget all your cares
So go flouncetown, where all the lights are bright
Flouncetown - waiting for you tonight
Flouncetown - you're gonna be all right now

Another point, pocket carry is perfectly normal and safe with the proper gun and/or pocket holster.

The story says nothing about a pocket holster; of course, that detail could have been omitted.

As to the "proper" gun for carrying in a pocket - loaded - WITHOUT a holster (that covers the trigger), I don't think that exists. I could only see doing that if my life depended on it.

There were a few morons from both the right and left but overall people were respectful and there were a lot of civil conversations where people expressed their concerns. Not yet, but they surely will be.

The kid will probably be prosecuted under Maryland's asinine "sympathy for criminals" laws. Here in this godforsaken state, we have something called the "duty to retreat". Do you guys know what that is? It means if your home is invaded by an intruder, and you have a gun, you are required to beat a retreat if doing so would get you to safety. Even if the intruder is armed or you suspect he might be.

So, if you're in your first-floor bedroom, and fail to jump out the window, but instead shoot the guy, YOU can be prosecuted. This is one of the 132,687 reasons I will soon be moving away not only from Harm City but from Maryland altogether. I just shook hands on my new house last Friday.

I have no doubt the bleeding hearts will try to make an example of this student.

OT:
Rangel says Obama's health plan price tag is too low. That's just the start of the WTF moments in this AP story:

Taken off guard, Democrats at work on health care legislation are grappling with President Barack Obama's nationally televised insistence on immediate access to insurance for those with pre-existing medical conditions, as well as richer Medicare prescription drug benefits than originally envisioned.

Additionally, Obama's pledge to hold the overall cost of legislation to about $900 billion over a decade has spread concern among House Democrats, who have long contemplated a costlier measure.

Yet another late complication, according to several Democrats, is the president's statement that he will not sign a bill "if it adds one dime to the deficit, now or in the future, period. And to prove that I'm serious, there will be a provision in this plan that requires us to come forward with more spending cuts if the savings we promised don't materialize."

The $900 billion target is "very difficult," Rep. Charlie Rangel, D-N.Y., chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, told reporters. "This is reducing coverage for poor and working people." He spoke of other "restrictions the president has given in his speech."

Taken off guard? Who's running the show in DC? Obama's WH staffers aren't talking with House and Senate leaders, let alone the guy in charge of Ways and Means? Or is that shoddy reporting?

Meanwhile, Rangel is being Rangel in saying that $900 billion is too low a figure, and he wants to go much bigger than that.

re: #66 Honorary Yooper

Found something very interesting about this, and I tried very hard to steer clear of lefty blogs saying "nah-nah-nah" and righty blogs trying defend the idiot. This is from the Star-Tribune article Charles linked:

Hendrickson said he still believed he was following his training when he pepper-sprayed a Cub Foods customer, although he acknowledged it cost him his job and 60 days in jail. He said the woman had parked illegally and was belligerent when he asked her to move, reaching in her car for an unknown object.

He said there had been two other incidents, including a disorderly conduct charge involving a parking lot argument at his son's school and one involving a dispute over a neighbor's dog, in which police were called.

Yeah, real laid back.

Here's the applicable Minnesota law on the subject (and a FAQ):

5. What are the requirements for getting a permit to carry?

*Must be at least 21 years of age
*Must complete an application form
*Must not be prohibited from possessing a firearm under Minnesota Statute 624.714
*Must not be listed in the criminal gang investigation system
*Must be a resident of the county from which you are requesting a permit, if you reside in Minnesota. Non-residents may apply to any Minnesota county sheriff.
*Must provide certificate of completed authorized firearms training. Training by a certified instructor and completed within one year of an original or renewal application. (624.714, Subd. 2a)

14. What would prevent me from getting a permit to carry?
Any applicant who does not meet the criteria as listed in number 5 above is not eligible for a permit to carry a pistol. The sheriff may also deny the application if there is a substantial likelihood that the applicant is a danger to himself/herself or others if issued a permit to carry.

It does not look as though a conviction is enough to revoke a concealed carry permit in the State of Minnesota. However, Mr. Hendrickson may be subject to the last part of this given his behavior at the Obama rally.

I'm not the world's biggest Richard Cohen fan but his ending was right on the money today:

This is the disease that ended Powell's career. He had good reason for his bitterness -- a black congressman whose staff couldn't even eat in the House cafeteria -- but he marshaled all the slights, all the insults, to excuse an abominable attendance record and contempt for the law. In the end, the very Harlem that today honors Powell turned against him and elected a Korean War vet named Charles Bernard Rangel. Now, all these years later, the omissions, deletions, amendments, corrections and curious accumulation of wealth make one revise the history that Rangel wants obliterated: He didn't beat Powell. He joined him.

Adultery in Aceh

From the Indonesian province of Aceh—epicenter of the devastating Indian Ocean tsunami five years ago that killed 230,000 people—comes fresh evidence that in the Muslim world, the most common disasters tend to be man-made. On Monday, the provincial parliament stiffened its interpretation of Shariah law by introducing the classical Islamic penalty of stoning to death for adultery. Premarital sex and homosexuality drew a lighter rebuke; for them, the pious lawmakers recommend 100 strokes of a rattan cane.

The news from Aceh, the recipient of billions of dollars in international aid, challenges two widely held beliefs: First, that Indonesia, the world's most populous Muslim country, is somehow immune to the blend of puritanical piety and Islamist politics that over the past 35-odd years has disfigured Muslim communities from Morocco to Mindanao. Second, that moderate Muslims—those who interpret their faith in personal rather than political terms—have the will and the intellectual firepower to beat back a well-organized and motivated Islamist minority.

Sorry to go off-topic, but I am watching the House blather on about Joe Wilson's recent conduct and I wanted to throw in my two cents.

For one, and although I don't approve of his conduct, it is my understanding that the House wasn't in session at the time. Technically he didn't break any rules.

Did anyone demand an apology when the Democrats booed President Bush in 2007? Hell no, they were considered "patriots" and celebrated as such. And it's funny to see Clyburn prattle on about setting agood example when you have your Pelosis, Rangel and the like. And why all the race-baiting? Good sweet Christ in a sidecar, can't anyone speak out against a black person without being likened to the KKK or worse?

Rep. Hank Johnson - "If we don’t censure Joe Wilson, the KKK will ride through the countryside."

Hey! It's BEER THIRTY!

And I have Guinness today.

Maybe Hank Johnson is in charge of when and where the KKK rides; he seems to have some idea of their schedule.

Hard to say. A lot of people would be pissed if the student is prosecuted. Plus Hopkins would be none to pleased if one of their students is prosecuted like this. Wouldn't look good to future students/parents.

re: #103 Killgore Trout The civil-war and insurrection talk is just rhetoric until someone actually does something. The brandishing of arms is about their twisted paranoia that the government will come take their Constitutional rights away.

You make too far a leap by saying "They actually want to rise up against our government." and "Their only hope of living out their revolutionary fantasies would be to kill our first black president."

They are unhinged certainly but you are exaggerating their threat and trying to mind-read their motives. Your statements would sound ridiculous if applied to gang members in DC who think it's cool to brandish weapons and talk smack about cops and other public figures.

In fact the most violent action taken by protesters in recent years has been the boming of a recruiting station in NY and the damage caused by the Earth Liberation Front.

Abortion clinic bombers, eco-terrorists, anti-millitary bombers and Campus snipers are all of the same deragned ilk and no political arm has a monopoly on whacked.

I know this kid of speculation can be problematic so I won't be too surprised if this gets deleted. I'll try to tread carefully...
The Tea Party infested Paulian Republicans have some very powerful fantasies about civil war. It's not just rhetoric. They actually want to rise up against our government. Of course anything they try won't get more than a handful of militia members to hold up on a farm somewhere. They might blow up a federal building or government office but that will end it.
Their only hope of living out their revolutionary fantasies would be to kill our first black president. The resulting civil unrest would be substantial. One of the idiots is bound to take a shot sooner or later.

I also think that with people like drudge and Malkin now blatantly stoking racial tensions it's going to get much worse. Even the ACORN thing is going to cause a lot of resentment. ACORN provides a lot of services to most minority poor inner city residents. They will see this as racial.

There is truth in what you say. And until the conservative media gets itself away from the extremists and their points of view, all of their criticism of Obama will be dismissed as either unfair or even racist. And there is plenty of legit criticism that can be directed at the Prez, but if the critics have compromised their credibility, it will be easy for Obama and the media that loves him to dismiss the legit criticism.

P. G. Wodehouse actually uses the word, I've forgotten in which book. Jeeves is subbing for somebody's butler, and Bertie says that while Jeeves is a gentleman's gentleman, he can "buttle with the best of them."

It's one series that translated well to the screen.

re: #144 SixDegrees:

At any rate, if these comments:

Lamest, most childish excuse - for something for which there is no excuse to begin with - ever.

Congratulations on lowering the bar.

... were directed at me, I recall stating that I do not condone that sort of behavior in the house at all. There is a decorum they are mandated to follow and adhere to very strictly. I don't believe that letting him off by a mere technicality is the right thing to do at all. But he personally apologized to the President, who graciously accepted his apology.

That should be the end of it, period.

The House Democrats are demanding censure and in spite of his resolving the issue they are practically asking for the man's head. And speaking of "setting an example for the children" is laughable. Again, in 2007 the House Democrats booed President Bush outright. Did any heads roll?

No.

And in typical fashion, the Democrats are race-baiting the hell out of this. It's beyond irritating. And I am not lame or childish and I didn't lower any bar at all. Just callin' it as I see it boss.

re: #25 Diamond Bullet

I think one negative side effect of people saying that something is 'a privilege, not a right' is that we tend to assume that rights are something to show arrogance about. Some of these guys--it's like they think the Second Amendment's there to offer them a chance to run around acting like fools and scream "I've got a right!" if anyone challenges them.

270 Flyovercountry  Tue, Sep 15, 2009 2:00:51pm

What these idiots are doing is very much wrong. I am positive that the Secret Service is discussing the error of their thinking at this very moment. The second amendment, as much as I agree with it, does not guarantee the right to be a threat to the POTUS. They don't realize it yet, but this will haunt them for the remainder of their lives. Unfortunately, this part of the story will be missed by everyone watching, as all too often, people fail to see the end or consequences of the story. By the way, I am certain that all of you know someone in some level of law enforcement. Shop this idea around that it's O.K. to do what these idiots are doing, use a stop watch to see how long it takes them to stop laughing or lecturing, (depending on their temperament.)

Worried about your right to carry arms - wave them around at a Presidential event.
Worried about the strength of your country - threaten succession.
Tired of the other side calling your party Nazis - call them Nazis.

re: #318 Dianna

Do.

The Song of Wandering Aengus

I WENT out to the hazel wood,
Because a fire was in my head,
And cut and peeled a hazel wand,
And hooked a berry to a thread;
And when white moths were on the wing,
And moth-like stars were flickering out,
I dropped the berry in a stream
And caught a little silver trout.

When I had laid it on the floor
I went to blow the fire a-flame,
But something rustled on the floor,
And someone called me by my name:
It had become a glimmering girl
With apple blossom in her hair
Who called me by my name and ran
And faded through the brightening air.

Though I am old with wandering
Through hollow lands and hilly lands,
I will find out where she has gone,
And kiss her lips and take her hands;
And walk among long dappled grass,
And pluck till time and times are done,
The silver apples of the moon,
The golden apples of the sun.

Conspiracy Theorist Convinces Neil Armstrong Moon Landing Was Faked

Apollo 11 mission commander and famed astronaut Neil Armstrong shocked reporters at a press conference Monday, announcing he had been convinced that his historic first step on the moon was part of an elaborate hoax orchestrated by the United States government.

According to Armstrong, he was forced to reconsider every single detail of the monumental journey after watching a few persuasive YouTube videos, and reading several blog posts on conspiracy theorist Ralph Coleman's website, OmissionControl.org.

If you look into the history of the right wing's demonization of the Southern Poverty Law Center, it's pretty clear that smear campaign against them was launched because they were exposing the many connections of right wing politicians and pundits to racist and white supremacist groups.

Connections that are real and factual and proven. Connections such as we see with Robert Stacy McCain and others who are now being held up as wonderful people by the right wing blogosphere.

The hatred directed against the SPLC is a direct consequence of how effective they have been.

re: #371 Dianna

Please!

Easter, 1916
W.B. Yeats

I HAVE met them at close of day
Coming with vivid faces
From counter or desk among grey
Eighteenth-century houses.
I have passed with a nod of the head
Or polite meaningless words,
Or have lingered awhile and said
Polite meaningless words,
And thought before I had done
Of a mocking tale or a gibe
To please a companion
Around the fire at the club,
Being certain that they and I
But lived where motley is worn:
All changed, changed utterly:
A terrible beauty is born.

That woman's days were spent
In ignorant good-will,
Her nights in argument
Until her voice grew shrill.
What voice more sweet than hers
When, young and beautiful,
She rode to harriers?
This man had kept a school
And rode our winged horse;
This other his helper and friend
Was coming into his force;
He might have won fame in the end,
So sensitive his nature seemed,
So daring and sweet his thought.
This other man I had dreamed
A drunken, vainglorious lout.
He had done most bitter wrong
To some who are near my heart,
Yet I number him in the song;
He, too, has resigned his part
In the casual comedy;
He, too, has been changed in his turn,
Transformed utterly:
A terrible beauty is born.

Hearts with one purpose alone
Through summer and winter seem
Enchanted to a stone
To trouble the living stream.
The horse that comes from the road.
The rider, the birds that range
From cloud to tumbling cloud,
Minute by minute they change;
A shadow of cloud on the stream
Changes minute by minute;
A horse-hoof slides on the brim,
And a horse plashes within it;
The long-legged moor-hens dive,
And hens to moor-cocks call;
Minute by minute they live:
The stone's in the midst of all.

Too long a sacrifice
Can make a stone of the heart.
O when may it suffice?
That is Heaven's part, our part
To murmur name upon name,
As a mother names her child
When sleep at last has come
On limbs that had run wild.
What is it but nightfall?
No, no, not night but death;
Was it needless death after all?
For England may keep faith
For all that is done and said.
We know their dream; enough
To know they dreamed and are dead;
And what if excess of love
Bewildered them till they died?
I write it out in a verse -
MacDonagh and MacBride
And Connolly and Pearse
Now and in time to be,
Wherever green is worn,
Are changed, changed utterly:
A terrible beauty is born.

re: #351 Killgore Trout

Rep. Joe Wilson member of Confederate group?

Experts say the divisions within the Sons [of Confererate Veterans] vary between two extremes. On one side are the traditionalists, members who focus on cleaning up Confederate grave sites and conducting Civil War re-enactments.

On the other side are the so-called Lunatics, up to 2,000 members who deride traditionalists as "grannies'' and belong to camps named after notorious Southern figures such as John Wilkes Booth and Jesse James.

So which side do you figure Joe Wilson is on? There are a lot of good non-racist people who descended from Confederate Veterans who would still take pride in their ancestry.

I am known to have several Union Veterans in my family tree but my Southern neighbors allowed me to live in Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee.

Joe also has been a member of the Columbia World Affairs Council, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Sinclair Lodge 154, Jamil Temple, Woodmen of the World, Sons of Confederate Veterans, ...

This is an organization that, as the SPLC has detailed assiduously, has been taken over in the past decade by radical neo-Confederates who favor secession and defend slavery as a benign institution.

Anyone know what groups Joe Wilson is currently affiliated with and sympathizes with?

Again - his actions were dumb and boorish on the floor of the legislature but racist?

As for me:

Cato, especially for you:

Leda and the Swan

A sudden blow: the great wings beating still
Above the staggering girl, her thighs caressed
By the dark webs, her nape caught in his bill,
He holds her helpless breast upon his breast.

How can those terrified vague fingers push
The feathered glory from her loosening thighs?
And how can body, laid in that white rush,
But feel the strange heart beating where it lies?

A shudder in the loins engenders there
The broken wall, the burning roof and tower
And Agamemnon dead.
Being so caught up,
So mastered by the brute blood of the air,
Did she put on his knowledge with his power
Before the indifferent beak could let her drop?

That's off the top of my head, and I'm pretty sure I messed up the line-break after "And Agamemnon."

No, he wished he'd never written "The Lake-Isle of Innisfree", after hearing it recited by little girls in school uniform for decades. OK, different Yeats:

Why should I blame her that she filled my days
With misery, or that she would of late
Have taught to ignorant men most violent ways,
Or hurled the little streets upon the great,
Had they but courage equal to desire?
What could have made her peaceful with a mind
That nobleness made simple as a fire,
With beauty like a tightened bow, a kind
That is not natural in an age like this,
Being high and solitary and most stern?
Why, what could she have done, being what she is?
Was there another Troy for her to burn?

He was a snob, and a poser, and a bit of a wanker was Yeats, but the gift was from God.

Eight years later, with the shitty economy, advent of swine flu and the bloodiest narcoinsurgency spiraling out of control in Mexico, the articles sort of take on this la-la-la-there's-no-problem-la-la la-you're-the-problem quality.

re: #391 cronus

There's more:

What we do know is that while serving as a state senator, Wilson led an SCV-inspired campaign in 2000 to keep the Confederate flag flying above South Carolina’s state capitol. “The Southern heritage, the Confederate heritage, is very honorable,” Wilson proclaimed at the time, responding to critics of the Confederate flag.

I want nothing to do with this guy- his associations stink.

I can never remember the poem, but I've pulled plenty of excelsior out of shipping boxes over the years.

I sometimes wonder about my memory, particularly in the dead of night.

And hey, while we're doing gloomy poems: Akhmatova:

The Last Toast

I drink to our ruined house,
to the dolor of my life,
to our loneliness together,
and to you I raise my glass,
to lying lips that have betrayed us,
to dead-cold, pitiless eyes,
and to the hard realities:
that the world is brutal and coarse,
that God in fact has not saved us.

Yeah I am doing some deeper research myself. Again, it's a bum deal that individuals such as this are elected into power and make headway.

Again, I don't condone his outburst but it did show the left's blatant hypocrisy, arrogance and general disregard for the ever so high morals that they foist upon all of us.

Here's the Wiki on Joe Wilson. I find it interesting that he voted against the removal of the Confederate (loser) flag from the SC state capitol.

OK I'm tasting a bit of crow - but it is more of an appetizer than a meal. :-)

In Georgia we realized that our heritage was the original post Civil War State flag not the replacement confederate battle emblem put up as a slap to the face of the civil rights movement. Thank goodness.

I'm not defending the honor of Joe Wilson. Frankly a vote to continue flying the confederate flag would be enough to disqualify him from ever receiving my vote. But I was specifically responding to the assertion that his outburst was racially motivated based on past/recent/still current (I'm asking because I have no clue) membership in a single organization.

re: #103 Killgore Trout

I know this kid of speculation can be problematic so I won't be too surprised if this gets deleted. I'll try to tread carefully...
The Tea Party infested Paulian Republicans have some very powerful fantasies about civil war. It's not just rhetoric. They actually want to rise up against our government. Of course anything they try won't get more than a handful of militia members to hold up on a farm somewhere.

Given that the militia members likely to join in such an act are likely inflating the number of attendees of the 9/12 DC Tea Party, it does not seem all that unreasonable to think that their own estimates as to how many people would rise up with them are similarly inflated.

Pssst - your stupid is showing.

If you show up to a Presidential event with a gun, the Secret Service has to pay attention to you. Because you present a clear threat - and you intended to. "I am armed; don't mess with me or you'll be sorry."

They also would have to consider that you might be there, in all your obviousness, to provide a distraction so that some co-conspirator could act.

OT:
Rangel says Obama's health plan price tag is too low. That's just the start of the WTF moments in this AP story:

Taken off guard? Who's running the show in DC? Obama's WH staffers aren't talking with House and Senate leaders, let alone the guy in charge of Ways and Means? Or is that shoddy reporting?

Meanwhile, Rangel is being Rangel in saying that $900 billion is too low a figure, and he wants to go much bigger than that.

This is your Congress in action. Sheesh.

If Obama sticks to his promise of not signing a bill that increases the deficit, I'll be thrilled.

423 Slumbering Behemoth Stinks  Tue, Sep 15, 2009 3:39:16pm

One lone nut took a shot at Pres. Reagan, and ruined James Brady's life.

For over a decade, Mrs. Brady pushed for gun control legislation that was eventually passed, dubbed the Brady Bill.

These fucking morons that bring loaded firearms to Obama rallies and such, under the dimwitted pretense that they are protesting a possible (but yet to be seen) violation of their Second Amendment Rights, are dangerously flirting with what is known as a "self fulfilling prophecy".

Oh give me a break; you don't think anyone can say the same thing about the "right" when generalizing like this?

This is where the debate breaks down, when people claim that they have the moral high ground with some mindless generalization. It was enough to say this guy was a jerk, which you did. Why do you have to put your foot in the same mouth as him?

I can't disagree with you in large part, but there are exceptions to every rule. I wouldn't carry a weapon to a political rally these days, or I think any day.

That simple; and if it was surgically attached to me, I wouldn't go. I'd watch the show on TV instead.

Does that help any ? :)

re: #78 Coracle

I'd say 3-4 times maximum weapon range.

So taking in mind that a 7.62x51mm NATO has a maximum range up to around 2 miles...you are talking about 6 to 8 miles...both ways.
So by 8 miles radius a safety area of 201 square miles (113 by 6 miles) around the potus in its center is what you are talking about.

Well I really think that is far from possible in any urban area...if you would not suggest to outlaw every gun, would you?

What do you expect to happen? That you will get so inflamed and emotional that you will go off and shoot someone? If you feel that way, then sell your guns now and check in to a ward somewhere.

re: #425 TenRing

You sound like a responsible gun owner. I'm one too.

So why would you defend this moron when he makes a point of parading around with firearms at a presidential rally?

I've mentioned this before -- I took ROTC in high school, and the gun safety instructor was a crusty old retired Army guy. He would have taken fools like this aside and whipped them to within an inch of their lives.

This kind of behavior is absolutely NOT the behavior of a responsible gun owner. It's the behavior of an attention-seeking idiot. And it does not deserve your defense.
