I have read that the AT&T network gets really screwy when you get around big crowds where a number of iphone users are vying for limited bandwidth. I don't have one, so I do not know if this is true. Apparently iphone users use up a lot more than other smart phones.

I don't know how the battery life is, but you do need to bring it to a store or to Apple to get the battery replaced. I think you can get a loaner (but it probably wouldn't have your info or apps, unless they have a quick way of transferring everything), but you do lose your phone for a couple of days.

The talking point going around the wingnut blogs today is that LGF is in serious decline because I'm a virulent anti-Christian. Of course, they can't actually link to anything at all that I've ever written that demonstrates this, but that isn't stopping them.
I'm not anti-Christian at all, as people with minds of their own can easily see.
Again, they're unable to separate being opposed to radical far-right religious agendas like creationism from being opposed to religion in general. Same old same old. This is how fundamentalists keep the masses in line - if you depart from the talking points even the tiniest bit, you're an apostate who deserves excommunication.
And as for "declining" -- our traffic has been rising steadily for the past two months, which must be extremely irritating for them.

Most domain registrars have an extra cost service that hides your name, but gives the name of another company. You pay that company to hide your name, and anyone legit can contact you through them.
Note this service is usually more expensive than the entire registration at cheap registrars. Something like $10-25 on top of the $5-15 registration.

Well, my experience with Palm hardware is somewhat better than my experience with Apple hardware, but still poor.
I had a Palm III that slipped out of my pocket, and the screen broke from behind when the batteries shifted. Never had anything else break a screen from a drop like that. I had to buy a "repair unit".
Over the remaining year in the warranty, I had to get a total of 3 repair units. The first one for the screen; the second one because the previous unit would completely lock up for 10 minutes every few hours; the next one was defective out of the box (wouldn't synch); and the last one worked OK except for flaky contrast until I replaced it.
Later I got a Tungsten C that was always flaky. Applications that were supposed to work fine would crash or not work at all.
But it wasn't consistent enough to get it repaired.

. . . Eventually, the bloggers Charles was picking fights with started firing back at him and I started to notice that Charles had a huge beef with Christians. At one point, I looked over at LGF and noticed that literally half the posts on his front page were edged pieces about creationism
. . .
There are certainly plenty of atheists and agnostics who are good conservatives. However, inevitably in my experience, when you have someone who has a huge beef with Christians, they turn to the Left.
, . .
They guy seems to think that if one believes the evolutionary process is sound science, rather than "creationism", then one must be an atheist or agnostic, and a lefty?

There must be multitudinous quotes and confirmations of Supreme Evil LibelBlogmaster Charles Johnson saying nasty things about Christians.
All the extra traffic is the Minions of Purity scouring LGF pages 'proving' it. I'm sure they'll come up with a banana peel here and there they can make into a tiny meal.
Good luck on that.
Then again, some extra traffic may be others who are sick of the whole whacked out state of conservatism at them moment and are looking for another place to call home. Hm...

This time, it's San Diego, and the ACORN employee is actively soliciting Giles as though she's a real prostitute and wants to help in smuggling children into the US to engage in child prostitution. Yeah, it's great stuff, but it is still the sideshow to the real main event.
ACORN will make cosmetic changes to claim that they've cleaned out the bad apples, but they keep hiring people of questionable moral and ethical flexibility who not only ignore the clear criminality suggested, but provide new and more illegal methods of engaging in same (tax evasion, prostitution, child prostitution, harboring/transporting illegal aliens, etc.)
That's a much bigger problem, and even then,it's not the main event.
The main event is the need to unwind all the money - where it's coming from and where it's all going. If they're comingling funds for homeowner assistance with their political operations, they're in big trouble and could lose tax exemption status.
Investigators need to look at conducting serious and fully involved audits to figure out what's going on there - and can't just rely on ACORN to do the job via an independent source.

It's the stupidest thing - talking hands-free is definitely safer than having a person sitting next to you who needs eye contact, gestures and maybe a pat on the shoulder for the communication to work.

There was a Corman-esque driving safety video that we had to sit through. It basically said, let your kids kill each other in the backseat, leave the radio station tuned to whatever it's set to, avoid reading bumper stickers and to absolutely make sure your headlights are on at night or you're going to unable to come home feed your very cute puppy because of your untimely death.

Driving while holding a cellphone is stupid; handsfree laws make sense. But the recent rumbles I have heard that it is "just as dangerous" to drive while talking on a handsfree is simply nuts. Will it next become illegal to talk to the other people in the car?
Back when CA first enacted their hands-free law I decided to go and compare accidents rates from 2006 with the early 90's before cell phones were as prolific as they were now. This was all done using information publically available from the feds, and I think only applied to highway miles. Bottom line was I was unable to find any significant change in the accident rates over those years. The claim was that using a cell phone was as dangerous as driving drunk, and given that at any time many more are using a cell phone than driving drunk (at least I would hope so) if the claims of the studies actually held up in real life there would have been a huge jump in the number of accidents.
My theory for the difference between the controlled studies and real life is that the controlled studies really compare a distracted driver to a non-distracted one, in real life I'll argue the normal mode for a driver is distracted. Whether they're distracted talking on a cell phone or singing along to their favorite song on the radio really doesn't make any difference.

I beg to differ on one tiny point: I'm a fundamentalist and so are many of my friends and associates. We do NOT take that position.

And they probably also do the tests at the times the most attention is needed, like when there is an accident ahead, or while merging.
If for some reason I'm on the phone when merging, I tell the person that I have to pay attention to driving. And I always use a handsfree unit (Bluetooth; the extra cost is worth it to avoid the wire that makes me not want to turn my head too far.)
In Mass, if I see someone not paying attention when merging, 99% of the time they're on a handheld phone or from NY, where lining up with a car on the highway is the normal way to merge.

Very much so, but again, that's to us, the outside observers. To the flouncer, it is a major psychological boost to be booted from a blog considered by their friends to be, for lack of a better word, bad, or gone wrong. This boost seems to wear off in some, and some of those go back to flounce again with a sock puppet. It's really bizarre.

I beg to differ on one tiny point: I'm a fundamentalist and so are many of my friends and associates. We do NOT take that position.
re: #143 thedopefishlives
Neither do I, Mandy. However, it is true that the wackomentalists (for lack of a better term), the nutjobs off the deep end of the fundamentalist spectrum, DO do this. I wish I knew of a better way to dissociate people like you and me from them.
I'm not, but I have some experience with the rigid and non-rigid "types" (please forgive fumbling for words.) Mandy's the latter. My father's mother was the former.
I don't have a clue about a buzzword for the former type, but I'm 95% certain it has to do with a fundamental (no pun) mindset towards other people. Call it, ... control freak.

Good afternoon Lizards ... before I get on the phone with my FIL and help him get his first computer ever (he's 73 yrs old) set up down in Florida, I wanted to quickly say something about an item in today's news.
I don't like that we have backed down and agreed to remove the early warning radar from Polish and Czech soil. It is a sign of weakness and will make our brave eastern European allies less sure of their decision to align with us. It makes the iranians feel bolder because we will be seen as weaker. And it makes Israel feel they're also on their own in facing down the iranian nuke threat. In short, this decision does nothing positive for our foreign policy or the safety of our friends. And it emboldens our foes everywhere.

...The false charge of racism won't change that reality, but it may well, if pursued, turn legislative defeats into political catastrophes for a generation. How strange that with large majorities in the House and Senate, with a president who just months ago enjoyed 70 percent approval ratings, and with a compliant and influential press, the Democratic party cannot pass its own legislation and instead is detouring to label most middle-class voters of all beliefs "racists." It is as if a group of political advisers got together and brainstormed how in theory to ruin the best liberal landscape in generations.

So former Fed chief Paul Volcker yesterday was spouting off about how nuts it is that certain “too big to fail” commercial banks that receive mountains of public money are allowed to run around acting like high-risk hedge funds. In a haymaker that seemed to have been designed to land right between the figurative eyes of year-old commercial bank holding companies Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley, who have amped up their risk profiles and continued their investment banking businesses basically in unchanged form since their conversions to more “conservative” commercial bank status, Volcker barked:
“I do not think it reasonable that public money — taxpayer money — be indirectly available to support risk-prone capital market activities simply because they are housed within a commercial banking organization,” Volcker, 82, said at a financial conference in Los Angeles.

Then traffic keeps crawling past Cass Avenue. Why you ask? Because of police and fire activity on the other side of the fucking expressway!

There better be some serious fucking looking into this:
Marines' plea for help under investigation
Tuesday's incident was "under investigation" and details remained unclear, press secretary Geoff Morrell told a news conference.
A McClatchy newspapers' journalist who witnessed the battle reported that a team of Marine trainers made repeated appeals for air and artillery support after being pinned down by insurgents in the village of Ganjgal in eastern Kunar province.
The US troops had to wait more than an hour for attack helicopters to come to their aid and their appeal for artillery fire was rejected, with commanders citing new rules designed to avoid civilian casualties, the report said.
Morrell said the helicopters were not hampered by any restrictions on air power but had to travel a long distance to reach the Marines at the remote location near the Pakistan border.
"I think that it did take some time for close air support to arrive in this case, but this is not a result of more restrictive conditions in which it can be used," he said.
"It was the result, as is often the case in Afghanistan, of the fact that there are great distances often between bases where such assets are located and where our troops are out operating."

A major problem with the discussion of racism and politics now is that many critics of the Obama administration are more interested in complaining about being accused of racism if they protest his policies, than are interested in calling out the actual racially divisive statements of people who agree with them on policy matters.

The same arguments that ACORN rightfully gets smacked down for apply here.
Acorn says that it's only a small and isolated group that engage in the illegalities, and it's not the whole of the entity. People here slam them every which way to Sunday for making such statements when the evidence is a growing pile of malfeasance.
There is a problem with racism and nirtherism with the GOP. You can argue that it's only a small portion - and don't paint the whole party with it. The Democrats will be more than glad to slam the GOP every which way to Sunday for making such statements when there's a growing pile of evidence to support claims that the GOP is racist, nutty - just take a gander at the photos of the signs at the 9/12 rally, the tea parties, etc. (and the same goes for Democrats who shelter tax cheats like Rangel or those on the take like Jefferson, etc.)
People have to stand up and say enough is enough and clean up the acts. Straighten up and fly right. It's not that difficult to do - there is right and wrong and it applies regardless of what party you belong to and which side you believe in. It also means taking responsibility, which sadly is all too lacking these days in the public sphere.
Enough is enough already. Accountability has to start somewhere - and that includes these grassroots organizations too.

Experts at the world's top atomic watchdog are in agreement that Tehran has the ability to make a nuclear bomb and is on the way to developing a missile system able to carry an atomic warhead, according to a secret report seen by The Associated Press.
The document drafted by senior officials at the International Atomic Energy Agency is the clearest indication yet that the agency's leaders share Washington's views on Iran's weapon-making capabilities.
It appears to be the so-called "secret annex" on Iran's nuclear program that Washington says is being withheld by the IAEA's chief.

Russia to Deploy Second Topol-M Regiment in 2009
Russia intends to deploy its second Topol-M ICBM regiment this year, ITAR-Tass reported (see GSN, April 13).
With the new unit of mobile launchers, the Russian strategic missile forces would have a total of 18 mobile launchers and 60 silos for the Topol-M missile by the end of 2009.
The weapon and is intended to carry a single 550-kiloton warhead, but it could be modified to deliver up to six independently targeted warheads as well as decoys for throwing missile interceptors off course. The missile has a range greater than 6,500 miles, according to the Yuri Solomonov, the weapon's top designer.
The Topol-M can be stored either in a silo hardened against a potential nuclear strike or on a mobile launcher designed to travel off-road (ITAR-Tass, Sept. 17).

Anderson Cooper last night played that idiot Limbaugh's take on the bus incident...Anderson Cooper also noted: "The police now say it's just purely a case of bullying. Initially one officer speculated that race may have played a role in it. That officer has now backed off that statement." from CNN transcripts...

But back to my original question. Or a variation thereof.
Does anyone NOT like the iPhone?
*rise hand*
Why should I?
Closed soft- AND hardware...DRM for anything...not tough enough...

I've said it before & I'll say it again...anyone who wants to know what REAL political conservatism is, needs to read two speeches by Ronald Reagan: his 1964 speech on behalf of Barry Goldwater ("A Time for Choosing") and his speech ca. 1972 to the Conservative Political Action Committee. There is hardly a mention of religion in either of these speeches, except brief references to Moses and Jesus at the end of the Goldwater speech.
They are ALL about capitalism, freedom, personal responsibility, and a strong military to deter those who don't like these things.

I think they've pulled the DRM off of ITMS, but I use Amazon anyhow.

Maybe.
I do not care. Apple and esp. the iPhone is a no need. Their products just have a high style factor.
Mostly just their 3rd generations are acceptable in quality and so on.
I am no beta tester, and I will not pay to be one.
Btw.: even if we build emergency or off the grid communication equipment sometimes - I just own a simple mobile. It can be used for phoning and short messaging. Thats all...no camera(would not be allowed @work either)...no colored screen...and it goes off automatically @22:30 every day.
I allow myself the luxury of not being reachable at all times.

That's it? No long dramatic post? Blah.
Charles, you need to keep a gallery of these posts for those of us who don't get on enough to be there 'real time' to see them before deleting them.

Got it. You're going to believe it was racially motivated, no matter what.
