Texas Gov. Perry Urges Value Voters to Read Skousen
At last weekend’s Value Voters Summit, attended by top GOP politicians and run by a man (Tony Perkins) who associates with white supremacists like David Duke and the Council of Conservative Citizens, Texas Governor Rick Perry urged the audience to read “The 5,000 Year Leap” by W. Cleon Skousen — a paleo-right crank connected to the John Birch Society. Perry also argued that America’s laws should be based on the Bible, and pushed for a Constitutional Amendment to ban gay marriage: Rick Perry: ‘You Can’t Not Legislate Morality’.
As we’ve reported extensively at LGF, Perry is the man who stacked the Texas State Board of Education with young earth creationists, in an attempt to force the teaching of creationism into Texas science classes. He also appointed fundamentalist theocrat David Barton and two other preachers to the six-person panel responsible for the state’s social studies curriculum.
Here’s an LGF search that will bring up all of our articles related to Rick Perry.
