Dan Riehl Calls Murdered Census Worker a ‘Child Predator’

Dan “black kids fear me” Riehl is speculating that Bill Sparkman, the census worker found murdered in Kentucky, was a child predator.

Yes, really.

His evidence? He don’t got to show you no steenking evidence!

All he knows is that the murder wasn’t committed by anyone on his side — so why not accuse the victim of being a child molester? Riehl World View: Was Census Worker Bill Sparkman A Child Predator?

Disgusting. Never mind that the guy was killed in such a fashion, never mind that there's no evidence for Riehl's accusations, he's going to smear the murdered census worker with said accusation.

What an asshole.

I wish I could say I'm even mildly surprised. Quite frankly, a nuanced response Riehl would have been much, much more shocking to me than him accusing a murdered man of pedophilia.

There is no evidence to suggest a connection between the direction of Dan Riehl's speculations and his real life experiences.

From the ABC story on Bill Sparkman:

Sparkman, his mother said, had moved to Kentucky to take a leadership position with the Boy Scouts of America, himself an Eagle Scout.

A single father and non-Hodgkin lymphoma survivor, Sparkman was working two jobs, as a census worker and a substitute teacher, while he waited for a permanent teaching position to open up.

Census Worker Found

So, he was an Eagle Scout, had moved to take a leadership position with the Scouts, a single father, a lymphoma survivor, and wanted to be a full time math teacher.

BSA does background checks and requires references. Our scoutmaster doesn't want to give them his SSN for them to do a background check, so he went to the police department, paid for them to do a background check, and submitted that.

Some people have a very unnatural fascination with the sex lives of others. +1 upding for saying what we're all thinking. I've always just assumed in the back of my mind (without any supporting evidence, but according to Riehl, who needs any?) that people who have some sort of obsession with something that should be private are dysfunctional in that way. And how do we know Rhiel isn't a homosexual? Which strongly implies that he's a pedophile, right? I saw a picture of Dan Rhiel once, and he was naked under those cloths he was wearing, which suggests sexual perversion, which suggests homosexuality, which suggests pedophilia.

I'm putting in an order for a few dozen torches and pitchforks right now, so me and a few dozen of my closest buds can launch an investigation into Rhiel's criminally perverse lifestyle.

With the Dan Rather issue and the ACORN investigations, independent, investigative journalists were doing some impressive work. Dan Riehl is definitely not helping anyone's reputation here. This post is not journalism, there is no investigation and there is no logic used.

For instance, Riehl says: "You'd think a moonshiner, or Meth head would have just buried the guy. Why hang him and invite the Feds into it by writing Fed on his chest?"

Well, if someone did murder him for some sort of sexual, revenge thing, why would they scrawl "FED" on his chest? Even the most whifty conspiracy theorist is more consistent than Riehl.

He claimed he kept a car battery next to the computer that he used to surge other people's computers. (My husband said this was impossible; I wouldn't know.)

Your husband is right. Said l33t hacker wouldn't blow anyone's rig by calling them up and putting 12 volts across the phone lines. He would be more likely to damage the electronics in his own modem if he did this, and if he disconnects his equipment beforehand, it's equivalent to "hanging up" on his victim. LOL

Elvis?

Wow.

I recently learned of their existence, but for the moment, I can't remember where - other than it was on the Net, and had something to do with speculating on the disappearance of the inhabitants of the Jamestown Colony...

There's been a lot of speculation about The King:

He had the look, though, no getting around it. Think I've seen maybe a dozen in my whole time in Appalachia - and they are distinctive. First one I ever saw, I though he was a Lebanese.

An etymological aside: the very word 'Melungeon' remains a linguistic mystery. For me, it resembles a corrupted form of the French mélanger (to mix) or mélangé (mixed) as in an individual of mixed races...

Well, I just spent a fascinating half-hour learning about the Melungeons. Thanks for the link.

My pleasure. On LGF, even the reactions to the ravings of a douchebag like Riehl can lead to interesting discoveries...

Since nobody knows what happened yet, one speculation is as good (or bad) as another. It is no more loathsome to guess that he was a pedophile than to say that conservative bloggers killed him with their terrible 'hate' speech.

92 Canadian Guy  Mon, Sep 28, 2009 12:23:37pm

Reading comments at Hot Air and Riehl's whacko theory I'm convinced that these conservatives know exactly why Sparkman was killed and are now just grasping at straws for any reason that won't smear their movement and new leaders.

There are no grounds for a suit. You cannot libel the dead.

You're probably right, though there is a possibility his Estate could sue if he had anything created by him who's value could suffer from the defamation of his name. it'd be a longshot though.

re: #91 scrubjay

Well, accusing the victim of being a despicable person (implying perhaps even that he deserved being killed) - without evidence, is in a whole other category than placing blame for his death on a movement, is it not?

95 scrubjay  Mon, Sep 28, 2009 12:38:22pm

re: #94 cenotaphium

Not really. The conservative bloggers are also innocent. Accusing someone of being responsible for another person's death, also without evidence, is just as bad.

re: #95 scrubjay

Let me illustrate with an example; man is gunned down. Some people draw attention to lax gun laws. They might be misguided, they might have a point. Another person claims that the man who got shot is perhaps a rapist and bunny strangler and in any case it's no great loss.

I think it would be stupid to call it a moral equivalence. The latter person is clearly an order of magnitude more offensive.

He says in his "update": "One doesn't rule anything in or out without some firm answers."

OK. I think the murder might have been personally ordered by Dan Riehl. We don't yet have any evidence to the contrary.

I think his mother is a whore. I don't have any evidence to that, but I know it for a fact.

Oh, playing this game is fun until you get burnt.

These folks resent Charles like they resent their own consciences, which they - but not he - check at the cyberdoor when they access the internet.
