Tim Blair Goes Cherry-Picking

Blogosphere • Views: 7,406

Tim Blair tries to play “gotcha” by searching through LGF’s archives: CHANGE.

Here’s his post, which he doesn’t seem to feel needs any further explanation:

Then.

Now.

The problem with this kind of context-free smear job, Tim, is that you could just as easily have chosen this LGF post for your terse “Then” link: Run, Sammy, Run.

Thomas Friedman in today’s NY Times, writing about the Arab world’s sympathy for murderers like Osama Bin Laden…

Or this post: India on Center Stage.

Thomas Friedman suggests removing France from the United Nations Security Council and replacing them with India…

Or several other posts that link with approval to Friedman’s columns, all written right around the same time as your “Then” link.

But pointing out those posts wouldn’t help you in the “gotcha” game, would it? By checking the LGF search log, I can tell you must have seen those posts too — but you chose the one that would fit your agenda and ignored all the others.

The term for this dishonest tactic is “cherry-picking.”

Like many New York Times columnists, Thomas Friedman is often wrong in my opinion. And when I believe he’s wrong, I have no hesitation about criticizing him.

But in the real world, sometimes people are wrong — and sometimes they’re right. Friedman was on the money in his column calling out the fringe right wing for their increasingly crazy rhetoric, so why would I criticize him for it?

This kind of balanced assessment seems to be beyond Tim Blair these days (and beyond a lot of other right wing bloggers, for that matter), which is a real shame.

UPDATE at 10/1/09 5:26:42 pm:

Tim has now updated his post with some more “Then - Now” links that show a truly heinous thing about me: I have an open mind and am willing to change it when I see convincing evidence.

Tim Blair seems to believe I was supposed to toe the right wing line on climate change forever. Now that I’ve invested the time and effort to educate myself on the issues and have changed my mind, I’m an unfaithful monkey who must be stoned.

It’s sad when brains become petrified.

Balanced assesment?

Why do that when being unbalanced is so much easier, fun and entertaining?

Oh yeah - there is that whole "being taken seriously" thing.

Hmmm. Real chin scratcher there.

This is one of the signs of closed minds: ignoring information because they don't like the source, or pimping it to high heavens when they do. It's not the source that counts, it's the information and ideas.

Context is not Blair's strong suit- and deliberately misrepresenting context explains why so many journalists are held in such low esteem.

His soapbox is missing a leg.

Custom tailored evidence of... something. Criticizing one idea, then agreeing with another? I'm not sure why Tim Blair thinks this is any kind of indictment.

Metaphorically.

11 avanti  Wed, Sep 30, 2009 5:38:31pm

It's the single minded, mind set. If you agree with one issue or comment, you must never disagree with any others and the reverse. No different then saying if you disagree with the POTUS on health care, you must oppose anything he proposes. i.e., some day Glenn Beck may say something I agree with.

12 Surabaya Stew  Wed, Sep 30, 2009 5:39:22pm

I'm getting the feeling that the Crazies are actually scared, now that such a "mainstream writer" is calling them out. Yet they don't have enough courage to attack Friedman, they would rather attack someone who just reposted his article and then had the audacity to start a blog thread on the subject!

Pretty much.

There was a time when he had credibility but that gave way to his agendas.

Writing blather is a lot easier than writing a real and thoughtful column.

The GOP and its devout followers are in a state of denial. Typically I don't agree with Thomas Friedman however in the case of today's essay he on the money. Instead of taking a moment for introspection and analysis they have chosen to shoot the messenger and react in a defensive manner.

Perception makes up a large part of ones political image. The perception of the GOP has been defined in large part by the likes of Limbaugh, Beck, and other bombastic media figures along with the extremist rhetoric heard at town halls and Tea Parties across America. Like it or not, the worst impression that is put forward is the most lasting impression in the political world.

This perception will continue to play a negative role with the GOP for years to come. While we have not seen the direct result yet, there is no doubt that the imagery we have seen here at LGF from the 912dc protest will be used in future television advertising. The same will apply with rhetoric and tone used by the infamous radio and television personalities.

They are responding like ostriches with their heads in the sand. Tim Blair completely misses the point as well. This isn't about Charles and Little Green Footballs. This isn't about Thomas Friedman. This is about the future and direction of the GOP as well as the future of this country. It is unfortunate but Michael Steele's response today only proves that the GOP will continue to have their heads in the sand.

It's not just the GOP. Politics today is defined by lowered expectations across the board. People today believe that simply having an opinion makes that opinion equal to all other opinions or even superior to others. Ask them to defend their opinions and they get insulted or hostile- as if their opinion alone need ever be subject to the same scrutiny as other opinions.

That's one of the reasons there is so much vitriol directed at LGF. Here, there are a lot higher expectations of commentors.

86 littlebenny  Wed, Sep 30, 2009 6:32:46pm

OK, long rant, but hopefully it's worth the read.

The bigger issue here is the "you're on my side or else...you're one of them" argument.

It happened during the Bush presidency, when the left-wing nutbags vilified President Bush and VP Cheney, and also attacked their "fellow liberals" if they dared to agree with any of the President's (or his supporters') positions.

Now, the right-wing nutbags vilify President Obama, and also attack their "fellow conservatives" if they dare to agree with any of the President's (or his supporters') positions. Sound familiar?

The only difference this time around on the insano-wheel-of-misfortune is this:

When the whackos on the left were acting up, the mainstream media largely ignored it. Nothing to see here folks, move right along.

In the present day, the mainstream media is highlighting the right-wing nutjobs, which just drives the right-wing nutters even further towards the "it's all a conspiracy against us" mentality. Add a dose of reality and common sense from CJ at LGF, and it's enough to drive a Nirther to join hands with anyone who is willing to share a stage with them.

I'm with Charles on this whole sordid affair; the problem is with the extremists and their formula for being heard and remaining relevant...namely, spewing hate-filled nonsense to attract the (all too eager) 24x7 media in order to dominate the national debate. I'm sick of it, and I'm sick of all the usual suspects. If we continue to permit them to run amok, we will all pay the price.

Charles,

There are plenty of sources that cover the craziness of the right, e.g., the mainstream media. You're not going to be able to cover them in a way that's better than they are.

Wow. I could not disagree with this more. The MSM is currently flipping out about Roman Polanski. A while ago, it was Michael Jackson Death Panic on every channel for weeks. I've never seen the MSM make the connections between the racist far right the way Charles has.

It's not just 'the craziness of the right". It's very specific connections, very precise research about white supremacism and anti-science dominionism and how it runs like a river underneath the surface. The MSM skips off the surface. That's what brought me to LGF, that's why I read it every day. And I'm learning a thing or two about the reasonable right wing and their POV while I'm at it.

She might be a planted caller. Radio shows do this stuff all the time. They pay semi-professional callers who are skilled at one gimmick or another. Shock jocks used to do this all the time.

Ironic...Rush ofter refers to such callers as "seminar callers", especially when they're saying things he doesn't agree with.

re: #85 researchok

It's not just the GOP. Politics today is defined by lowered expectations across the board. People today believe that simply having an opinion makes that opinion equal to all other opinions or even superior to others. Ask them to defend their opinions and they get insulted or hostile- as if their opinion alone need ever be subject to the same scrutiny as other opinions.

That's one of the reasons there is so much vitriol directed at LGF. Here, there are a lot higher expectations of commentors.

People have become naturally defensive it seems. What I don't understand is that it seems that people will react defensively even when they are doing something they know is wrong. Criticism leads to improvement and should not be seen as the discarding of a person or an idea. Anyway, I'm rambling here and as you say they do get hostile and are prone to shoot the messenger.

But I do wish that people would remember that public transit is not a playground or their living room.

I was on BART not long ago with a horrible child, his persecuted little sister, and their ineffective mom. I was despairing of the future of the human race.

Later in the day, a little boy barged ahead of me to get on the bus. Before his mother could say anything, his big sister, aged about nine, grabbed him back and said "Miguel, WHERE are your MANNERS? That lady is getting on the bus!" Perfect 'mommy' intonations. And the kid said "Ohhh. Sorry lady!"

As an outsider (from South Africa) I'm not sure what the GOP stands to gain by alienating moderates and independents. I have lived in de facto one party states for many years. A strong, healthy opposition is essential for democracy.

I felt bad for her, sad for her, and scared at the same time. She really needs to get out of the far right bubble before she drives herself crazy. The conservatives lost a election, not their country.

I wonder if she gives a damn that there are children in this country she lost that really don't have health coverage, or health care, or children whose parents are going broke providing it, as opposed to her fantasy that the big liberals are going to steal hers.

158 karmic_inquisitor  Wed, Sep 30, 2009 7:04:23pm

I am starting to think that much of the embrace of extremes we are seeing in popular political culture is due to the Internet. Not a Luddite view - just that the ability for anyone to broadcast anything everywhere has individuals out there competing much in the same way that newspapers competed back in the Pulitzer / Hearst era of full blown Yellow Journalism.

Not a new observation, but I am wondering if there needs to be a sort of ethical credentialing system out there that makes maintaining a reputation for accuracy, completeness and diligence vital to earning/having an audience.

Other credentialed people. So you have to start with a seed group. Also, if you credential a cretin it should affect your authority. The Army had a similar concept in its Officer rating system - the rater and senior rater had profiles themselves that affected the score that they gave.

I love Honk for Cash (aka Toot for Loot) and Make That Noise (where callers had to run around their house and break a lightbulb, flush their toilet, ring the doorbell, etc). It was a very creative show.

I will never forget a stunt they did where they had people go through an automatic car wash with their windows down. The guy just screaming "It's horrible!" as the water started coming into the car, that was radio gold. Also, Larry and Larry!

As an outsider (from South Africa) I'm not sure what the GOP stands to gain by alienating moderates and independents. I have lived in de facto one party states for many years. A strong, healthy opposition is essential for democracy.

Exactly. This is part of my concern. If they do alienate the moderates and the independents that will mean a continuation of what appears to be a one party rule. I wouldn't want to see either party be dominant and a mix is always better for the country. Even a Democratic congress and a Republican White House (or vice versa) is a better alternative.

Is Gary Trudeau, liberal lunatic, trying to draw an analogy between Hitler and Obama?!? C'mon, I think Zerobama is many things, but a Nazi he ain't! (Now a dirty rotten Red, hmmm...)

I think extremes also come from the political parties being only 2, a number which has no center;

from the party convention system, and primary elections;

from the laziness of the electorate;

and from the sensationalism of the media.

But mostly from the laziness and immaturity of the citizenry on average.

It takes some effort to inform one's self, to read history, and to see the examples of extremism's bad results.

re: #179 MikeySDCA

Seriously, this is how Universities used to work and still largely do.

Reputation is everything when you are a domain expert who hopes to gain greater accolades and more research funding by finding something new and interesting to tell the world about.

The peer review system works pretty well, as does the accreditation system - the people on the accreditation committees are largely fellow academics.

Why not seed a credentialing engine with an upding/downding system similar to what Charles has but one that extends to content on any internet domain? Start small with one area of expertise (like the health care debate) - have ratings for both facts and analysis. Have the system sniff out the partisans by their credentialing behavior. Rate contributor's output as artifacts and see what impact it has on the author's credentials.

Digg gives more "power" to the diggs of long time / expert users. You could improve the algorithm and make it multi domain, IMO

The Window Through Which We Look

A young couple moves into a new neighborhood. The next morning while they are eating breakfast, the young woman sees her neighbor hanging the wash outside. "That laundry is not very clean", she said. "She doesn't know how to wash correctly. Perhaps she needs better laundry soap."

Her husband looked on, but remained silent.

Every time her neighbor would hang her wash to dry, the young woman would make the same comments. About one month later, the woman was surprised to see a nice clean wash on the line and said to her husband "Look, she has learned how to wash correctly. I wonder who taught her this."

The husband said, "I got up early this morning and cleaned our windows."

And so it is with life. What we see when watching others depends on the purity of the window through which we look.

Charles, a bit of perspective from The Penalty of Leadership. I think it applies perfectly to you and LGF. Here is a snip..

Whether the leadership be vested in a man or in a manufactured product, emulation and envy are ever at work. In art, in literature, in music, in industry, the reward and the punishment are always the same. The reward is widespread recognition; the punishment, fierce denial and detraction. When a man's work becomes a standard for the whole world, it also becomes a target for the shafts of the envious few. If his work be merely mediocre, he will be left severely alone - if he achieve a masterpiece, it will set a million tongues a-wagging. Jealousy does not protrude its forked tongue at the artist who produces a commonplace painting. Whatsoever you write, or paint, or play, or sing, or build, no one will strive to surpass, or to slander you, unless your work be stamped with the the seal of genius.

Hello, Rodan.

An open letter to all stalkers from the village of the banned...

Hello! I am very pleased that you continue to love this blog so much that you religiously read it after having announcing how much you hate it here. I want to thank you in particular for all of the attention you have given my writings as well. It fills me with pride to know that when I write something that causes your angry little wingnut heads to want to go pop, you just keep coming back for more and more.

Many of us who post here are very pleased that you find us such an important part of your otherwise empty lives. I am pleased that you too are intelligent enough to know that the "really big gun" thread is likely a form of overcompensation for being cursed with small sexual organs. That is healthy. It is a good sign that rather than reading that, you read here.
Really, if you were reading the stuff you guys post, rather than reading here, you truly would be crazy.

So I would like very much to thank my fans. I am sure that CJ, Ice, Sharm, Kilgore and others are deeply grateful for your attention too.

Yours,
LVQ

Blair is just blatantly cherry-picking through the global warming posts! He's ignoring the posts that have updates directing people to more recent ones, and pulling out all the anti-AGW posts.

What a scumbag.

I'll admit, being pro AGW a few months back was just a ding down magnet, and it was a uphill climb for those trying to discuss it. Many minds were changed, many more are at least open to discussing it. The lizards that flounced are just repeating the same discredited info on the stalker sight, with lots of applause. I moved a bit to the right myself, I agree it's a problem, but want careful study before throwing money at it, trying to fix it.

Just got the HD version (my old one finally had a disk seizure -- had to get a new TV too, but...wow, love HD!). As I tell my family (who are sick of hearing about it), Tivo is God's gift to Mankind!

Tyler's Ultimate, Top Chef, and, dare I admit, Project Runway? Helluva way to pass the time...

lol Mr. Moon has been wanting an HDTV for the holiday. Unfortunately life has intervened and we've had a few huge expenditures this year so I'm not sure. Actually we wanted to get a Tivo compatible with HD without actually having the TV, but they told us we couldn't do that. Bummer.

China finds bird-like dinosaur with four wings

Chinese researchers have unearthed the fossil of a bird-like dinosaur with four wings in northeastern China, which they suggest is a missing link in dinosaurs' evolution into birds.

In a paper in the journal Nature, they said they found the well-preserved fossil of the "Anchiornis huxleyi," which roamed the earth some 160 million years ago, in a geological formation in China's northeastern Liaoning province.

About the size of a chicken, the fossil has a total body length of less than 50cm (20 inches) and a skull about 6cm long, lead researcher Xing Xu at the Chinese Academy of Science in Beijing told Reuters in an email.

"This finding suggests that birds are likely to be descended from a kind of small-sized four-winged dinosaur about 160 million years ago," Xu said.

"It is a link between more typical theropods (dinosaurs which moved around with two rear limbs) and birds. It lived around a time period ... that we expected for birds' ancestor."

In a statement, the researchers said: "Long feathers cover the arms and tail, but also the feet, suggesting that a four-winged stage may have existed in the transition to birds."

The transition from dinosaurs to birds is still poorly understood because of the lack of well-preserved fossils, and many scientists say bird-like dinosaurs appear too late in the fossil record to be the true ancestors of birds.

The Chinese researchers believe the fossil is the oldest bird-like dinosaur reported so far, and older than Archaeopteryx, the earliest known bird.

"The presence of such a species at this time in the fossil record effectively disputes the argument that bird-like dinosaurs appeared too late to be the ancestors of birds," they wrote.

Well, she did land the future POTUS as her hubby ...

So Bill and Hillary take a break from the White House and go visiting friends in Arkansas. On a back road, they stop at a ramshackle gas station, and the owner, a snaggletoothed hillbilly from Central Casting comes out to fill up the car.

Hillary greets him with delight. "Joe Bob! Wow! You look great! Do you own this place?" She kisses him and drags him over to the car. "This is my husband, Bill. Bill, this is Joe Bob, my high school sweetheart. Wow! I just can't believe you got the gas station you were always talking about!"

Hillary happily chatters away with her ex-beau, and finally Bill manages to get her back in the car and drive away. She sits there for a few miles with a dreamy smile on her face.

"Bet you're glad you married me," Bill says.

Hillary looks surprised. "Oh, of course I'm glad I married you, Bill," she says, a little dismissively.

"I mean," Bill goes on, "if you had married Mr. Fill-Em-Up back there, you wouldn't be First Lady of the United States."

Hillary glances over at him. "Yes I would," she says.

Good idea. Aquinas is mentioned, and I like both Kenny and Magee as philosophers.

If you like the video, and you haven't seen the series, the rest are on Youtube. The best, in my opinion, is the one on Schopenhauer where Magee (a major league Schopenhauerian) interviews Father Frederick Copleston. If I had to recommend one thing to a beginner in philosophy (which you are obviously not), it would be this series, both the recordings and the subsequent transcript into a book.

Dear lord, no one one will be on hand to give us the translation, how will we know it's a flounce?

/what is the Latin for flounce?

Well, since I wouldn't deign to flounce (old Romans never do), I can only give you a sample of what might suffice for a final (deleted) curse.

Courtesy of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman, by way of the Sorbonne.

Maledicat illumos sanctus Michael, animarum susceptor sacrarum.

Maledicant illumos sacrarum virginum chori, quae mundi vana causa honoris Christi respuenda contempserunt. Maledicant illumos omnes sancti qui ab initio mundi usque in finem seculi Deo dilecti inveniuntur. Maledicant illumos coeli et terra, et omnia sancta in eis manentia.

re: #408 Walter L. Newton

Just curious. I can' t agree with you at all. I saw the movie, the pilot and a few of the episodes, I thought it was space opera, high noon in space, Gunsmoke on a spaceship, didn't do anything for me.

Oh well.

Walter - one reason you may not have liked it is that Fox chose to show the series completely out of order, with the pilot (which does the traditional drama thing of introducing all the characters and setting the stage) coming halfway through the aborted series. Two out of the original fourteen episodes were never aired at all. And the movie makes no bloody sense unless you know the series, and it was made as an act of improbable defiance by Whedon so he could tell in two hours what the series would have told over seven years, like Buffy only better.

Fox has no idea how much they screwed themselves by not giving it the green light. We're talking gazillions of lost money in residuals alone. "Firefly" fans will beat you up faster than Trekkies.

Even if i had done that with a sockpuppet they just would have deleted the comments and moved on. There's no shame involved. The only reason they changed their comment policy is because they knew I was posting it here and it might become threadworthy. I've got to start watching tv again. I keep missing these things. Thanks.

513 karmic_inquisitor  Wed, Sep 30, 2009 9:33:03pm

At some point Palin will have to stop trading in her victimhood.

Anyone who has seen the girlscout scene in Dodgeball knows where this is going - the girl scouts troop is playing the Average Joe's team and one of the girls gets nailed with a ball and breaks down crying "how could you hit a girl?" When the guy who did it starts saying "Are you OK?" he lets his defenses down and gets taken out.

It then becomes obvious that it is a cynical ploy.

Palin lets her surrogates do the victim whining for the most part, but they do it a hell of a lot.

If she wants to run this country she is going to need a thicker skin and needs to get her minions to cut out the "They attacked Sarah!" routine.

Of course she will be attacked. Unfairly too. Welcome to your chosen profession.

And try to not quit because ... they are attacking you.

My off-the-cuff translation:

May he be cursed in living, in dying, in eating, in drinking, in hungering, in thirsting, in fasting, in falling asleep, in sleeping, in waking, in walking, in standing, in sitting, in lying, in working, in resting, in pissing, in shitting, in bleeding.

You have to respect a curse that curses separately for falling asleep and sleeping.

But for my Catholic-hating friends out there - this kind of thing goes back way before the founding of the Church. In fact if you look up defixio, defixiones you'll find that people were practicing the same kind of thing against me and Charles's ancestors before Jesus ever walked the earth! There is no such actual rite of excommunication. Lawrence Sterne made the whole thing up as a literary exercise and in part to defame the Church of Rome. Malus mendax.

Goddammit, it's blasphemy day!
Taking aim at God on 'Blasphemy Day'

Criticizing God is an act punishable by death in several nations. In America, blasphemy laws remain on the books in six states, though they are largely arcane and not enforced.

But everywhere, it seems to Lindsay, scoffing at God is not socially acceptable.

People are willing to tolerate the harshest statements about the president of the United States, he said. But talk about Jesus or Mohammed -- that's a whole different ball game.

"We think religious beliefs should be subject to examination and criticism just as political beliefs are," said Lindsay, 56, who heads the Center for Inquiry in Amherst, New York, an organization that claims about 100,000 followers worldwide. "But we have a taboo on religion."

But here is the thing about Letterman - he is not getting ready to ask you to let him run the country.

Palin? She is. It isn't a bash to point out that she needs to be a heck of a lot more stoic in dealing with criticism. Her quitting will haunt her for a very long time regardless of how she explains it. And she will have people teasing her and haranguing her for a very long time too.

She has no choice but to outperform expectations. She has the advantage of those expectations being fairly low among her critics. Reagan was able to do it and did so without ever complaining. He took advantage of the fact that his opponents created such low expectations that he had to do little to overcome them.

At issue is a 27-year-old Chicago law banning handguns, requiring the annual taxation of firearms, and otherwise interfering with the right of law-abiding individuals to keep guns at home for self-defense. The case was brought on behalf of four Chicago residents, the Second Amendment Foundation, and the Illinois State Rifle Association.

Not really, they will be taking municipalities to court for years. The Heller case determined that the Right to Bear Arms is an "individual right" but did not curtail municipalities from restricting that right to their "need". Chicago refused to change any of it's bans. As a result, law abiding citizens cannot own a handgun for self-defense purposes. Getting a license is nearly impossible with out "connections" or an elected office. This leaves the average citizen at a significant disadvantage to protect themselves or their property. Not to mention having their civil rights violated.

To reply more thoroughly - the curse of Ernulf exists, but was never a standard excommunication formula. In fact it was written as a kind of paleo-Latin curse by the good bishop upon his successors. Sterne did not make it up, but used it to show the supposed errors and barbarity of Catholicism in a typically tendentious English fashion, for his own purposes. It has been passed around ever since as an example of Catholic baseness and lack of mercy.

And it remains one of the funniest and most thorough Latin curses of all times. I think someday I'll have to memorize it for the next time I encounter a particularly obtuse ticket-issuing meter maid.

Bad publicity is still publicity --wouldn't you rather she just fade in to the Great White North?

When I lived near the Farmers Market in Los Angeles, in the first permit parking neighborhood in the city ( so you KNOW how bad the parking was..) There was a beat up old Toyota who must have had a job that required it to be parked late, long after all the legal spaces were filled, and it's apartment did not include parking. Parked on red, most nights.

Anyway, it had, on the top right of the rear bumper, a sticker, with a picture of a BIG spider, wearing a meter maid cap, and the caption was "Meter maids eat their young".
Funny as heck! It had a LOT of tickets in the 2 years I lived there.

No, he wants to see her fall flat as punishment for want he sees as her cruelty to animals and her public mendacity. I don't agree with all or even most of Cato's grievance against Sarah Palin, but it must be said that she has shown poor judgment enough times now that I could not consider voting for her in a 2012 presidential primary.

Actually, I don't think it was badmouthing. I don't think he would deny he made those comments and I have no reason to believe he wouldn't stand by what he said. I am pointing out that the criticism of Cato really was, in large degree politically motivated, though couched in personal terms.

In my town, meter maids ticket their grandmas. The city budget depends on it.

They've just instituted speed cameras in school zones. Fine. No one wants to see kids get run over. Trouble is - the school-zone speed limit hereabouts is 15 mph. When was the last time you consciously tried to drive at 15 mph? If you're not drunk, go out and try it right now. Drive 15 miles an hour for two blocks and see how that goes.

And the cameras are set to zap you whenever school is in session - regardless of whether the kids are all inside studying, outside having recess, or coming and going from school busses and parental pick-ups.

So you're driving along a normal street and - pop! flash! - your car and tags are photographed together with your egregious speed of, say, 21 mph, and you get a ticket in the mail for $150 dollars.

The mayor may even be able to save her on-call helicopter funding just from one school alone.

re: #599 Cato the Elder

My previous car would have gone through clutches trying to go 15. It was geared for up to 5 and over 20. And the speedometer had tics at 10 and 20; no way to keep at 15.

cruelty to animals?

Shooting wolves, who are among the most intelligent and social animals in the world, from helicopters for sport, constitutes base cruelty and unsportsmanlike conduct in my book. I say that as a hunter who has no problem with culling animal populations.

Imagine you're a wolf in a pack and you get single out, separated and harried by a loud pterodactyl machine from the air and then gut-shot in an open field.

And Palin was in favor of that. I rest my case.

In my last car (Honda Civic CRX) it would be dirt simple: shift into second, and don't touch the gas. 13mph, easy.

In my current car (Ford Taurus), not so simple, but still do-able. Put the automatic tranny into first, wait for the engine to accept what you're doing, and then just be careful.

I'd demonstrate, but I'm drunk.

Can you imagine how strong a united front for this effort would be if you had a LGF/Instapundit/Hotair/Ace axis?

Why would anyone want to identify with the rants and ravings that go on at HotAir and AoS? Furthermore, Glenn Reynolds has over the past couple of years bailed on any semblance of objectivity and is fulling living up to the "pundit" label (as understood derogatorily.)

614 Tman  Wed, Sep 30, 2009 11:50:32pm

The blog owners at LGF/Instapundit/Hotair/Ace are all pretty damn close in terms of what they believe. Neither Allah nor Ace nor Glenn is a Creationist, they are all resolute in understanding the still-ongoing vigilance against Islamic extremism, and they all agree that Obama was and still is an empty suit that is slowly exposing some truly frightening weaknesses in terms of foreign and economic policy.

There are aren't other blogs of this size that agree this much with each other, unless you count the Kos kids.

And I sure as hell don't agree with pretty much any of them.

Ummm... no. At least, I don't think so. Go look at the long history of posts by Charles...

Furthermore, there are multiple writers over at HotAir. The comments section though appears to be on the path towards FreeRepublic territory...

The four people I named above have more in common than things they don't, from a political blog perspective. LGF has had its share of idiots too. Charles may have refereed comments differently, but comments aren't necessarily the opinion of the owner.

I respect and admire Charles for his stance on evolution, and also encourage him to continue to keep pushing the radical right towards the fringe of the GOP so that we small "L" libertarians can bring back the Goldwater conservatism that this country is desperately yearning for.

I just wish that instead of attacking the people who are trying to do the same thing, LGF would instead promote the EVOLUTION of the conservative party.

Do you have a link to anyone besides LGF who is trying to ostracize the right fringe? It certainly isn't Malkin, Limbaugh, Instapundit, HotAir, nor Ace. They are pandering to it.
