Tech Note: MP3 Audio in Comments

Technology • Views: 3,243

Stop the presses! New feature alert!

OK, maybe you don’t need to actually stop any presses, but we have a new feature in the LGF Comment Engine: embedded MP3 files. It works just like the embedded video feature: you put the URL of an MP3 file on its own line in a comment, and it will be converted to a clickable link labeled “MP3 Audio.” Click that clickable link and the MP3 player appears, with the filename of the audio file displayed above the control bar, so you have an idea what kind of audio you’re about to hear.

This means you have two chances to avoid embarrassing yourself in the office with a sudden burst of sound, if any LGF readers are browsing the site at work, which I’m sure none of you are. Ahem.

This is what the player looks like after you click the “MP3 Audio” link, using Ben Folds’s hilarious new semi-tribute to Levi Johnston (with a hat tip to Jason Linkins):

MP3 Audio

(Mild language warning: the chorus is taken directly from Levi Johnston’s posts at Facebook.)

I love this song. The chorus is so touching— and all from Levi’s FB account:

I’m a fuckin’ redneck, I live to hang out with the boys
Play some hockey, do some fishing, kill some moose
I like to shoot the shit and do some chillin’, I guess
Ya fuck with me and I’ll kick your ass

Oh yeah.

Speaking of the moose shooter:

The photographs could potentially serve as a source of embarrassment for Palin, who is often mentioned as a possible presidential candidate for 2012.

Ya think?

There was an interesting piece in Vanity Fair last month supposedly written by Levi, but most likely taken from interviews and ghostwritten by VF staff.

Ya think?

I think that at this point, Levi can reasonably be considered to be a separate phenomena from the Palin family. I would not dream of holding this twerp against Mrs. Palin.

I do consider it to have been an error in judgement to take him to the RNC, and also to not have asked Todd to kill him with a snowmobile while there was still time, but I have so many other reasons to dislike Sarah Palin that I’m willing to let the Levi problem slide. Many people’s teenage daughters date no-goodniks in high school.

I’m not sure how it would be embarrassing to Palin; maybe to Johnstone, when he figures out that it isn’t girls who are reading Playgirl. But how this would spill over onto Palin, I’m not really seeing.

I do think, though, that there is more chance of that happening than there is of Palin being a viable Presidential candidate. If anyone thought Clinton’s “3:00 AM Call” ad was effective and hard-hitting, wait until Palin’s opponents break out the “Quitter” theme.

One thing that’s pretty clear from all that’s come out about Levi’s relationship with Bristol Palin — he was heavily pressured by the Palin campaign to go ahead and marry Bristol, even though he obviously didn’t want to. And the only reason for that pressure was because Sarah Palin needed to look pure to the religious right, as part of John McCain’s cynical little ploy to get their support.

He’s the father of Sarah’s grandson, but he’s clearly on a vendetta against her, and I don’t see how much of anything he does can hurt her. In fact, the more of a jerk he is the more people will have sympathy for the Palins about it. The whole episode was an embarrassing circus. Bristol announcing she’s pregnant during a major election campaign… Levi only wanted a good teen-age boink; not a kid and a wife. Dang it! Palin and McCain could have handled it differently, but there’s not much to do… other than paint the boyfriend as a serious relationship. They were hoping Levi was an honorable kid man, like men used to be when the girlfriend shows up with child. Not in this day and age. Levi’s gotta be free.

I wonder what type of a father Levi is?

I was troubled by something I read in an interview where Bristol said that she had wanted to be an RN, but now wouldn’t ‘get to’, because she needs to start earning a living. I hope that was just crap to encourage other girls not to get pregnant young. I was troubled by something I read in an interview where Bristol said that she had wanted to be an RN, but now wouldn’t ‘get to’, because she needs to start earning a living. I hope that was just crap to encourage other girls not to get pregnant young. The Palins have the money to help her get a good degree and a solid career, and her life and the baby’s life will be infinitely better if she does.

I don’t care much about Palin one way or the other but having said that I would caution anyone not to underestimate the appeal to voters of appearing to be a real person withe real issues, just like them.

I don’t know, I think its come to the point where she’s too much of a joke - everything she’s associated with becomes a circus. Kind of like Paris Hilton: I doubt everything around her is her fault either, but it just doesn’t matter.

That’s true in so far as the media frenzy is concerned, but is it true in terms of people’s personal sentiments?

I’m not sure. I don’t like Palin at all at this point, and I mock her every chance I get— but even I think Levi is a jerk, I don’t think it’s her fault or Bristol’s fault that he’s a jerk, and the more of a jerk he is the more I feel bad for them.
Don’t get me wrong- it would never make me vote for Palin, or revise my estimation of her as a politician, but if she has a meltdown and slams him publicly (again) I would be inclined to give her slack for it, not mock her.

Yeah- I have a hard time believing she can’t get assistance for school, and that it’s in the best interest for mother and child. The reality is it’s her child to maintain, but not helping her now likely means helping her more in the future since she won’t have the education to take care of herself and Tripp. I don’t think they’d really want to limit her future for the sake of scoring morality points in public.

I assume Levi is lying if his lips are moving.

Now, for your moment of bipartisan zen, imagine that Malia Obama had been eight or nine years older, and turned up pregnant by a hip-hoppy jerk boy with ‘Thug Life’ tattooed on his knuckles, and it was announced they’d be getting married real soon. Is there a pundit out there who would not have promptly reversed their verdict in the case of Bristol and Levi?

No, match Ann Coulter against Pelosi. Say what you will about Sarah Palin but she comes across as a much nicer person that Nancy Pelosi. You deliberately suggested parties which are not American political parties as part of an ongoing smear by yourself and others to claim that I am not American.
You don’t even have the balls to come out and admit thats’s what you;re doing. For good reason.

There are two choices here: either you’re so ignorant you are unaware that there’s a lot of people in the US who identify as “independents” or ” no party affiliation” — a group which is larger than those that call themselves Republican, by the way, — or you are a malicious coward seeking to smear me and others you don’t agree with as ‘unamerican’- and you don’t even have the nerve to come out and say that.

Personally, I think these alternatives are not mutually exclusive.

Your 9 dollar message of love and respect may end up in the hands of a Soldier during the Christmas season that hasn’t even had a shower in a week and has cleaned blood off his uniform in the middle of Hell. Your Prayer and package can make a difference…
Please list names of our hero’s below…We have only about 40 days to make this happen.
I will match names to donors and supply you with shipping addresses…

True enough. So tell me, if Malia decides to have the baby, because she’s happy in love and thinks she’s ready to start a family, how many pundits stay on their side of the fence? Or does this not matter, since her father is pro-choice?

Other than being the President, you are correct.

181 iceweasel  Sun, Oct 11, 2009 12:04:20pm

In other news, Andrew Sullivan has blogged about Obama’s gay rights speech, and I think in this case his reaction sums up that of activists for gay rights on hearing it:

But the sad truth is: he is refusing to take any responsibility for his clear refusal to fulfill clear campaign pledges on the core matter of civil rights and has given no substantive, verifiable pledges or deadlines by which he can be held accountable. What that means, I’m afraid, is that this speech was highfalutin bullshit. There were no meaningful commitments within a time certain, not even a commitment to fulfilling them in his first term; just meaningless, feel-good commitments that we have no way of holding him to. Once the dust settles, ask yourself. What did he promise to achieve in the next year? Or two years? Or four years? The answer is: nothing.

A lot of nice rhetoric, but Obama didn’t give any specifics, which is exactly what the gay community and those on the left angry over the inaction on DADT and DOMA want.

Here’s Sully.

Obama is going to draw all the ire of the religious right and of the so-con/theocratic wingnuts for that speech, while also - at best - mildly placating people who care about this issue.
It was a good speech and good ideas, but the fierce urgency of now has apparently turned into the fierce urgency of ‘whenever’.

OK. My only point, and I do have one, is that all the right-wing pundits babbling about family values, and all the left-wing pundits pretending to be scandalized were just following script, and would have switched gears as circumstances dictated.

Oh,erg … there are many folks who do believe a baby is a person from the moment of conception.

That is true, but pregnant teens who stay in school are subject to hurtful scrutiny from their peers and even some not-very-compassionate or charitable teachers. I have the utmost respect for any teen in that position who gets through it with courage and grace and strength.

In re: personhood, you’re right. I wasn’t attempting to make any kind of philosophical or theological or moral claim there, just meant legal personhood— as in, not granted the status of personhood under the law, therefore not subject to those considerations.

Ice - thanks for the clarification.

I believe with every fiber of my being that a baby is a person from the moment of conception, and that belief, for me, supercedes status of “personhood” under the law.

While I see no point in trying to convince others that I AM RIGHT., I do believe it is morally required of me to state that view when appropriate, and ask that others simply recognize that there are those of us who believe that, and we are not all idiots or weirdos. That is all.

re: #196 reine.de.tout

Excellent points. Apologies if I came off like I was saying that people with that position are ‘weirdos’ or anything. Obviously i do not think that.
The hard truth is we don’t know about when personhood begins— none of us. Not the prochoice people either. So all we have legally speaking is the certain knowledge that the woman IS a person, and that trumps everything.

I’ve said before that I have nothing but respect for the truly pro-life people like you who don’t seek to take away the option of abortion from others, but want to eliminate the need for as many abortions, by increasing access to birthcontrol, education, emergency contraception, making adoption easier, etc— goals that prochoice people and all people who care about women and children should be able to unite on, regardless of what we call ourselves politically or our religious beliefs.
