A spectacular image from the Hubble Space Telescope’s newly-installed Wide Field Camera 3, showing a birthplace of stars in the nearby galaxy M83: Hubble Image Showcases Star Birth in M83, the Southern Pinwheel.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation had earlier become aware of Internet postings by a man who called himself Nidal Hasan, a law enforcement official said. The postings discussed suicide bombing in a favorable light, but the investigators were not clear whether the writer was Major Hasan.

In one posting on the Web site Scribd, a man named Nidal Hasan compared the heroism of a soldier who throws himself on a grenade to protect fellow soldiers to suicide bombers who sacrifice themselves to protect Muslims.

“If one suicide bomber can kill 100 enemy soldiers because they were caught off guard that would be considered a strategic victory,” the man wrote. It could not be confirmed, however, that the writer was Major Hasan.

For Glenn Beck, SEIU Is 'Radical, Marxist,' Except When Its Nurses Treat Him for Emergency Abdominal Pains

Earlier today, a hospitalized Glenn Beck tweeted in praise of the "AMAZING drs/nurses" who have cared for him since the emergency removal of his inflamed appendix yesterday afternoon.

The quality of care he is receiving should not have come as a surprise. When Beck complained of acute abdominal pain during his radio program on Wednesday, he was rushed to a nearby hospital. The security-conscious Beck has not disclosed the name of the facility, but it's a safe bet that it is staffed by proud members of a storied union: New York's Local 1199, aka United Healthcare Workers East, which belongs to the Service Employees International Union. The SEIU has organized all of Manhattan's major hospitals, including every facility to which Beck could have conceivably been sent.

They were locals, mostly.

Gibson wanted an indigenous cast for the project, so the filmmakers found people from the Yucatan, Mexico City, Oaxaca, Xalapa, Veracruz and other spots. Two of the cast members are from the United States, three are from Canada and the rest hail from Central America.

just read this article that Halperin linked to. at first I was kinda taken aback (telling moderates you'll come after us?), but reading into it it seems like Steele is saying that social moderates are ok, but the minimum requirement for GOP backing will be opposition to health reform/stimulus (didn't bush do that?)/other economic things. I'm not sure any sort of litmus test is a good idea, but I like the idea of defining being a Republican along economic, and not social issue, lines. the proof will be in the pudding.

I also saw on thepage that the family research council endorsed rubio in Florida. Now I'm more pro-Crist than ever. I'm assuming there are a lot of Floridian lizards. vote in that primary!

Surprise, surprise, seems like pro-life extremist Randall Terry was at the center of that incident at Speaker Pelosi's office where a bunch of Tea Partiers got arrested. Somehow he didn't get arrested though.

I think it was a brilliant piece of story telling. I wasn't really sure who the main character was supposed to be for the first hour of the movie. I kept thinking, "How are they going to get out of this" but characters kept dying off. The story was laid out very well and really sucked me in.

Oh, it totally was, I just remember feeling physically tired after the credits rolled. Probably helped that I saw it in the theater. All that running!

I don't disagree, except that I say I support capital punishment in the most extreme cases. Child molesters come to mind. I'm against the death penalty but it's not a make-or-break issue for me. The only part about it that gets me worked up is that I expect a very high burden of proof. The story of that man in Texas who was executed and is now thought to have been innocent breaks my heart.

That mob should embarrass everyone who lives on the same planet. This odd alliance between red-meat libertarians and various theocrats is a new, and more extreme, iteration of the shotgun wedding that united political conservatives and the nascent religious right in the late 70s and early 80s. Yep, I can see this coalition falling apart pretty fast when they really have to deal with the issues rather than frothing about them:

The Oval Office, February 2017

Theocrat president: "Hey, goddamit, what's this arrest in Missouri? That's a friend of mine!"
Paulian attorney-general: "Well, he shot an abortion doctor right in front of God and everybody."
T-POTUS: "So? I thought you were against abortion!"
PAG: "No you moron, I'm against the government paying for it!"

About the only thing they agree is the right to keep and bear arms so this conflict could become very interesting indeed.

Scozzafava Opens Up About Election Aftermath

After months of criticism from conservatives for her moderate views on issues including gay marriage and abortion, the endorsement brought out what many said were some mean-spirited comments -- among them, rough language from Rush Limbaugh.

BTW, with the world series finally over (and the Yankees proving once again that money can buy happiness), Fringe is back on the air...

Downloading tonight's episode (heh... it's broadcast TV ...) and there are more than 27000 people on this torrent! The fans must have been really hungry.

The silver lining in that, if you will, is that there will be a trial that will expose motive. There won't have to be any speculation.

re: #115 Dark_Falcon

Not entirely. Since we got him alive, we can try him, convict him, and execute him. That should help provide some closure.

He can also be pumped dry of any information he may have about others who he may have been involved with.

Either way, information extraction and the application of justice will be greatly streamlined, given that this clearly falls within the military's jurisdiction.
